it’s actually hilarious that when puss in boots 2 came out, everyone and their mothers were like “omg dreamworks is so goated, they’re so much better than disney” and then dreamworks decided to release fucking megamind 2 and kung fu panda 4 just to prove everyone wrong
Dreamworks has always been like this. They’ll produce something great and revolutionary every once in a while, and then release a whole bunch of garbage films.

What I’m hoping for is for it to teach a lesson like the other movies.
Shrek - Accepting others
Shrek 2 - Accepting yourself
Shrek the Third (yes even that taught a lesson) - Accepting Change
Shrek Forever After - Accepting what you have
Shrek 5 could teach you to accept letting go or teach you to accept getting older.
Those last lessons are great lessons.
Another potential lesson is to accept your own and/or other people's mistakes

Predictions about Shrek 5 (and I'm not psyched about them)
- We're going to meet Shrek's father and learn stories about him were exaggerated.
- There's going to be tension between Shrek and his pre-teen kids.
- We're getting a flashback with Baby Shrek, and they'll market the hell out of him on TikTok.
- LOTS of references to other Shrek movies and memes.
- He's going to say "It's all ogre now" and his kids will cringe at his "dad humor"
- Fiona will do only one kung fu stunt and the kids will say "I didn't know mom knew kung fu"
- Donkey will close the movie with a cover of Uptown Funk
- Somehow Farquad returned and will inherit magic powers from Fairy Godmother's abandoned magic lab.
I would honestly be down for a Farquad cameo that isn't plot relevant
“Somehow Farquad Returned…Dark Science, Cloning, Secrets only Lord Farquad knew”
Honestly, I’m down for Shrek making dad jokes, It sounds kinda funny.
@@ultimateho8100 Yes it sounds pretty in-character
You forgot one
-Steamboat Willie as the main villain (now that that’s public domain)
If they adapt the Grimm’s fairy tale Donkeyskin for the Donkey spin-off movie I’m sold. Donkeyskin is the tale of a human queen that gives birth to a donkey. Imagine a woeful tale of Donkey, born a prince, being ostracised and banished from his kingdom for being born a ‘fairy tale freak’. Along the way he’s sold for magic beans, used as a piñata and ends up on Pleasure Island where he eats waffles and meets Pinocchio. But ultimately, despite he and Pinocchio saving the boys-turned-into-donkeys from being sold and suffering the same life Donkey has thus far endured, he ends up being sold to that old woman who tries to trade him in to Farquad’s soldiers at the start of Shrek. It is a tale of an unfortunate soul being ostracised from the cruel world again and again for being born different but never losing track of who he is and along the way helping others like himself to not suffer that fate. Which perfectly aligns him with Shrek, another ostracised soul, but one he never gave up on.

Dude- be a screenwriter.
good idea but I thought donkey only got the ability to speak at the start of the first film, before that he was just a normal donkey
@@mannequinman2604 He's surprised he can talk when he first does in the movie but it could've been not because it was for the first time but he lost the ability to for whatever reason.
"Hello, I like money!" "What inspired you to make another Shrek after Shrek Forever After?" "Money!'
"Curses! It's not fair."
Because Shrek Forever After wasn’t already for money?
@@lop3938At least it was a creative installment. If this movie is just a continuation after Shrek the Third, it doesn’t have the same charm as Shrek Forever had. And yes, the reason was probably money, but if the story is creative and had effort put into it, we’d be way more forgiving.
The Shrek series is just like Toy Story
Toy Story 4 is a movie that didn’t need to exist, but had a bittersweet ending
Meanwhile, Toy Story 5 is just a movie that doesn’t need to exist and is clear that it is just a cashgrab. Just let Woody and Buzz rest in peace already!
@@Alenaexistsit's not continuing from forever after?
Steamboat Willie needs to be the main villain of Shrek 5. Shrek was made with the intent of making fun of Disney, so having Steamboat Willie be the (possibly) true final boss of the Shrek Saga would be perfect!
This is genuinely a great idea
This would be amazing.
Agreed but they definitely will not do that lol
Wait, you’re cooking…
Unfortunately I highly doubt they'll go down that route, but honestly I'd be satisfied with just a simple cameo
6:14 is so funny to me. He says in the video “There is a less than 0% chance fairy godmother comes back,” when he meant to say MORE than 0% chance, as that would make sense. Hearing James make the error, whoever edited the video adds text to fix it, but ALSO writes: “*less than 0% chance,” defeating the purpose of the edit in the first place. Made me chortle.
I was about to comment this. I replayed that part twice to make sure I heard it correctly.
Fairy godmother is just that op
@@joestarfloro3030 you mean just that dead
I think he was originally going for "a non-zero chance" but got himself confused
I thought the edit was made bc he didn’t say ‘percent’ out loud and the text has % in it

Istg if it’s getting the Toy Story 4 treatment
One thing about Puss in Boots 2 is that the director and others on the commentary and other behind the scenes interviews were VERY open about how much of a team effort it was with ideas coming from everyone on the crew with everyone putting in terrific work and being listened to allowing more great ideas in and improving the ones they had.
Comparatively while we dont know everything what we do know about Kung Fu Panda 4 it's behind the scenes was much less collaborative on ideas and willing to listen to feedback with it mostly being the directors vision and those lower on the chain getting a lot less input. I think this will be a huge deciding factor for Shrek 5
Shrek 5 should have a team and director that has a strong vision and dedication if they want to create a competent and compelling product for us and the Shrek franchise
With Walt Dorhn as director, i do have hope, since he worked on Spongebob for a while and that has an incredibly team-driven output
I wish Joel Crawford was the director and not that Minions 2 director.
You right, if it be like kfp 4, then its lost already. No hope
yes
A lot of people don’t seem to know this, but All-Star was never a recurring song in the Shrek movies. Outside of a High School Brass Band cover in Shrek 3, All-Star was never played in any of the Shrek movies after Shrek 1. The only Smash Mouth song in the Shrek series that was played throughout the franchise, was I’m a Believer… which outside of Shrek 1’s iconic ending, was played in Shrek 4’s end credits, and was played in the Shrek Musical. But even then, I’m a Believer wasn’t even a song made by Smash Mouth, it was a cover of a song made by the Monkeys in the 1960s.
I'm pretty sure most people know it's not a recurring song. The one time it plays is the opening montage of Shrek 1 that is always memed about.
And I’m guessing whoever hasn’t seen the Shrek movies only knows that All-Star played in Shrek.
To add to it as well All Star wasn’t even made for Shrek, it came out earlier for the movie Mystery Men
Well Shrek The Third had a cover of All-Star
Wait, what am I talking about? I mean Shrek Forever After. But that didn’t have any covers. Maybe I’m just insane.

I feel like an interesting idea for Shrek 5 is the babies now being older and wanting to be ogres like how Shrek used to before Shrek met all his friends and family
and them making the dragon baby donkeys grown up and riding them to battle
That’s not a story, that’s a fanfic
And make them like original fairy tales instead of their satirical environment where they are not 'perfect' like Disney so somehow it becomes a story again that embraces fairytales in a Journey as puss in boots and play with the two concepts (Embrace Fairytales elements with the babies and the sarcastic humour and adult jokes with the shrek gang ) Maybe something serious like shrek 4 was but still with the shrek 1-2 humor at peak with Shrek and Donkey surely making fun of their surroundings and only-in-imagination-here idealists ideas of the fairytales
@@ninjanibba4259 To be fair, most sequels plots sound like fanfics, most movies do in fact, people only take them seriously, or treat them better once they're released.
"wow guys, here's my fanfic of what happens when Andy grows up and the toys have to move on" "ooh, what if Toothless had to split apart from Hiccup" "What if there was a movie where the villain won but he got bored and created his own superhero" etc etc
I think an interesting natural progression would be something along the lines of:
Shrek 1: Learning to love yourself and not be withholden to the expectations of others.
Shrek 2: Learning to appreciate new experiences and change yourself for the better, but not change who you really are.
Shrek 3:
Shrek 4: Appreciating what you have in the moment, not what you used to have.
Timeline wise, Shrek's kids would've grown as Schaff said, so maybe the next theme could be;
Shrek 5: Being a better parental figure and learning from the mistakes of your own parents? Shrek did say his past sucked, and his dad tried to eat him. Maybe the movie can be about Shrek struggling to set and example, but having 3 children who all wanted to do different things and him learning to let go instead of trying to raise them the way he wishes them to be. I dk. Maybe after the events of Shrek 4, he becomes more controlling of his family and friends because he doesn't want to lose them ever again, so the lesson can be about finding a healthy balance?
EDIT: As for potential villains, I'm thinking maybe the Witch from Hansel and Gretel? I dunno, just spitballing. Maybe his kids are upset with Shrek and wander away only for the witch to give them what they want; a taste of freedom. Probably letting them hang around her place, eat all the candies, pastries and having all the fun they want to build trust, while posing as a kindly old lady (like the original story) that on the surface felt like a better parental figure than Shrek? Idk.
The iconic Donkey's Polish VA sadly passed away a few days back. It'll be weird to watch the movie without him. May Mr. Jerzy Stuhr rest in peace

The Jacksfilms running gag has finally met its punchline
A Pleasure Island/ Donkey origin story with the Last Wish Director at the helm would be incredible. What happened to children that were still able to talk after the donkey transformation? The Coachman can be the irredeemable villain and you make it an allegory for child trafficking. There’s a lot you can do with a Donkey Solo movie.
I honestly think this is the sole route they should go down, it could be brilliant
Interesting
Yeah I was thinking along these lines too
Knowing Hollywood nowadays, they'd rather shy away from child trafficking storytelling.
There's a line from the first move that already debunks this being soviets backstory.
Ya know, in the Movie that shan’t be named, there was a line that implies that Donkey was once one of the kids who was taken to pleasure island and turned into a donkey in the story of Pinocchio, so maybe the spin off series could work off of that, where donkey is forced to face his past and aid a rescue party in search for the Missing boys who went to the island and disappeared without a trace.

I honestly think that the two big reasons why they put All Star into the Shrek 5 teaser is because it's the most popular Shrek song and as a homage to Steve Harwell, which I respect.
Nah
One giant onion must be relieved he doesn't have to bite an onion every day anymore.
One idea I heard people theorize about with the Donkey spinoff is that it will reveal Donkey as one of the boys transformed into a donkey on Pleasure Island, and mostly be about exploring his past. If that turns out to be true I can see it being an interesting story to tell, especially with the themes of worker exploitation.
Yeah I was thinking something similar. If the Donkey movie is a prequel to the first Shrek movie, it could possibly work.
@@e.tthehuman7222
Well that's what it is rumored to be, confirmation on if that is the case though. But it is the idea that would make the most sense and have more creative opportunities for the story and characters
After Megamind 2 our trust has been absolutely shattered in these sequels.
Crazy to believe that will be the second time in history a Toy Story and Shrek film will release the same year, though you can definitely tell which one people are more excited for.
And how poetic that they're both the quintessential franchises of their respective animation companies
None of the two?
Puss in boots 2 being 2 years old is scary
2 years already? Time passes too fast...
It's legit frightening...
that's how time works
Not as scary as Frozen and The Lego Movie being 10 years old. A movie being 10 years old is honestly more “frightening” than a movie being 1 or 2 years old to me.

I think Shrek 5 would become like a nice epilogue to the series, kinda like how Toy Story 4 was managed. Still, after hearing all the behind the scenes of people who will be working on this film.. yeah, I also have less expectations of this movie to be great. I just hope that this movie would be at least "good" tier and an enjoyable one. TBH I really don't mind all the nostalgia for as long as there's a good story to tell, and this better have one.
What happened behind the scenes?
I actually came up with a pitch for a Shrek 5 movie, with the main villains being Peter Pan and Tinkerbell: basically, the triplets are grown-up (not by much, around 10 years old) but still act as kids, much to the chagrin of Shrek and Fiona, so they wish for a way to stay kids forever- which is where Peter Pan comes in, as he kidnaps the three and takes them to Neverland. Thus, it's up to Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and Team Friendship to rescue them.
The main theme of this movie would be to not fear growing up, I guess- all I have of the pitch is a vague post in Google Keep I made right after watching Puss in Boots 2.
Edit: now that I think about it, since we've never seen Wendy in a Shrek movie, she can be a grown-up, female version of Captain Hook who rescues the kids and trains them on how to be grown like her! Like maybe she escaped from Peter Pan's clutches and trained herself, becoming a badass like Fiona in Shrek 4.
You’re cooking
That's actually a smart idea.
Someone finally having Peter Pan be a villain, it was always a bit strange when you think about it with Peter perpetually wanting everything to stay the way it is.
Captain Hook could be re-invented like Goldilocks and the Three Bears from the original trilogy (if you didn't notice, the Three Bears showed up in the first Shrek film and Farquaad skinned Mama Bear into a rug in the first film and The Last Wish completely retconned that) to be one of the Lost Boys who wanted to go back home, but Peter didn't like that, cut off his hand, and exiled him (I'm not sure if this is a consistent factor to Hook's backstory but I remember Disney doing this for their Peter Pan movie).
He found other exiled Lost Boys and formed his pirate crew, which became a rebellion group of sorts to Peter.
DreamWorks needs to hire you as a writer for Shrek 5!
@@SecretMagicianisn’t Peter pan a villain in the Once Upon a time series?
I love how he used footage from The Shrekening.
Remember that YTP?
Shrek 5 Idea: Shrek's actual parents (or at least father) show up and threaten Fiona, his kids, his friends & his home. Leads to an ogre version of the Titanomachy from Greek myth.
Donkey Idea: the movie is Donkey telling a story to his kids, that is an embellished retelling of his origins (which, if they go by the theories, may involve the island of lost children from the tale of Pinocchio, salt mines, and other horrors which he'll try to make a joke out of).

Generally kinda what happens when a series is dormant for 16 years compared to 2 toy story films. Bonus when General public weren't fond of 4..and the idea of a 5th
I’m calling it now since Mickey Mouse is public domain he’s definitely gonna be a villain(or a mouse type villain), dreamworks wouldn’t miss a chance to throw a dig at Disney. I wouldn’t be surprised if he somehow brought fairy godmother back and be a duo.
considering only steamboat willie mickey is public domain that would be hilarious to see a 2d black and white mickey just walking around the 3d shrek world
@@breadjustslatheredallovermeThere’s also the Plane Crazy design which has more gremlin energy, I could see that working well as a Shrek villain
Everyone 2 years from now:
Somehow fairy godmother returned
Maybe this one will focus on Fiona solely as she realizes a secret from her childhood. Like it's the common theory that the fairy Godmother had her sent to the tower. She was a 2nd lead in 4 but we never get a full story that's just her. Maybe have a moment where she wants to go back to the past and see what happens if she lived a normal life similar to shrek. They could have a new vilian with interesting magic powers.
I reasonable understand why that can't work since I doubt rumple would try the same thing again, the king is dead and so is fairy godmother.
When you wondered what new fairy tale villain they could possibly use, the first one to come to mind for me would be Bluebeard. Though that seems a bit too obvious, given how he's basically already a villain and the Shrek series has been all about subversion and re-imagining fairy tale characters (plus, Bluebeard isn't nearly as well-known as most other fairy tales).
That said, as long as I'm making baseless speculation, I'm going to say the next villain would probably be Mother Goose herself, the fairy tale OG (Original Goose, as the movie poster taglines would probably say), probably working alongside the Brothers Grimm for some sinister goal, probably something regarding control over fairy tale creatures.
Steamboat Willie is in the public domain they have the potential to do a really funny thing is all I'm saying

Day 51 of telling shafrillas to review angry bird 1
I had a pitch idea months ago that they'll use a similar character to Steamboat Willie (aka Public Domain Mickey Mouse) and I thought it can be an interesting villain if they wish to tackle down Modern Disney
Me too. I wish Hollywood wasn't so afraid of endings. While it is terrific to see Shrek maintaining its relevance, many studios, such as Dreamworks or Disney, don't know when to quit. They got a great ending with Shrek 2, kept going, had another opportunity to stop with Forever After, and now we have a fifth film. Even if the fifth movie is excellent, they really need to let it rest.
They are not afraid of endings, they just love easy money and nothing says easy money like reboot/sequel.
@@selalewow That's why Hollywood fears endings, because it means a lack of sequels/access to that easy money.
I think it would be neat if they had the DreamWorks moon as kind of an antihero of sorts. Like maybe they somehow went to the moon and found the man on the moon? I know this idea is absolutely crazy, but it would certainly be extremely unexpected.

6:15 I like how he corrected the fact that he forgot to say percent but not that the phrase should be “more than 0% chance” to imply there’s a possibility that it could happen
I suspect that the issue Megamind VS The Doom Syndicate and Kung Fu Panda 4 is them being made solely to be shat onto Peacock due to being bought by Universial. So this information could show that Shrek 5 could go down the same route (in particular if it’s made by their TV studio like the last two sequels instead of their movie studio), but there’s still a chance it could be made by the main film studio and/or be good.
Hey, if it’s better than Shrek the Third, has decent writing and funny jokes; and great villain, and a decent enough plot that will make you go “hey, that was pretty good but not as good as the first 2 movies”, we should be fine

After Shrek 2, Katzenberg said that they had "quintology" planned out from the get-go, with the final film being an origin story for Shrek explaining how he came to live in the swamp and whatnot. Not sure if that still holds water today, but the fact the main film timeline came to be so flat and mundane that even Shrek was bored with it (and movie four mainly took place in an alternate timeline) means they could go with a curveball like a prequel instead of a direct continuation. Unless they cooked up some REALLY good idea for a fifth original story set after the others in the decade and a half of the franchise being dormant.

Was speaking to my mum and she mentioned the kids becoming human like Shrek in number 2 which I thought was horrible initially but I think I could see some character development there. Them having to chose between their ogre and their human side. Shrek and Fiona having their own opinions both having chose to be ogres. I think there could be something there
if you ask me, they will pull a kung fu panda 2 and explore shrek's past
a lot of shrek's past is implied to have had a serious impact on him in the first movie, and we consistently see elements of his past, wich are influencing his actions and decision making, creep up thought the other movies (an example being the fact that he inherently knows where exactly his house SHOULD be in shrek forever after, even though there are no markers to indicate such a thing)
Another thing to think about is depending on how well Shrek 5 performs both financially and critically, we could be dragged back into a time when Shrek was seen only as a joke on the internet. I don't want to be reminded of Shrek is Dreck or....Shrek is love, Shrek is life....
Shrek 5 and Toy Story 5 are coming out 2 weeks apart from each other.

Oh u mean like as if they're scrolling on a phone but since it's a fairytale it'll be a literal scroll
I have hope, mainly because Shrek is a franchise that you can always make a new story out of. With a movie that has its roots set in fairy tale origins and subverting expectations and tropes, Shrek can always make a new story with how many Fairy Tales are out there.
