  • This is a brief video pertaining to my experience with TFCC or triangular fibrocartilage complex. When I injured myself and what my experience with the condition - post surgery - has been like.
I'm also 2 vials into a human growth hormone treatment plan where I inject myself five nights of the week until the five vials finish which supposedly will assist with cartilage regeneration, So if you want to learn more about this, stay tuned as I will upload more videos soon.
If you're thinking about surgery WATCH THIS FIRST!!!
The second video is ready for review:

I appreciate sharing your experience and the comments. However I'd like to point out one thing for people considering surgery. The comments here are very biased data points. Most people who got the surgery and recovered successfully aren't going to watch tfcc surgery videos and comment on them. They'll put this behind them and move on. So just because half the people here have bad stories doesn't mean that the success rate is 50%.

    Glad I found your video!
I broke my ulnar bone in 2009 during a soccer game, was full arm casted for a summer, and them was sent on my merry way, no PT. Since, my wrist complex has been usable but felt "unstable", for lack of a better work. I'm pretty demanding on my upper body: I do yoga, rock climbing, heavy lifting. 13 years later, and the "unstable" feeling morphed from aching after use to now daily pain.
After some MRIs and X-rays, found out my TFCC has been torn this entire time, and the wrist ends of my radial and ulnar bones have been slowly drifting apart. Looks like TFCC repair surgery is the next step. I'm very nervous, never had surgery before. My goal is to keep at my fitness interests, ultimately to be able keep doing as much of what I'm doing for as long as possible in life.

For those of you who may be waiting for treatment or still deciding how to treat their wrist I wanted to share the treatment I received for my TFCC tear.
My hand therapist told me to do the following:
    • Immobilize the injured wist as much as possible during the day and while sleeping, with slight extension and radial deviation (towards the thumb) of the wrist joint.
They made a splint for me but one could get by with a soft arm sling or modified wrist guard. Radial deviation is most important to open up the ulnar side of the wrist.
    • Contrast Baths - Hot and Ice Cold buckets for the wrist and forearm
1 minute Hot, 1 minute Cold, 1 minute Hot, and so on until you've done 8 minutes Hot and 8 minutes Cold for a total of 16 minutes. Do this twice a day. For circulation and reduction of swelling.
    • Make a fist and perform 10 second Isometric holds for flexion, extension, radial deviation, and ulnar deviation. Perform 3 times a day.
Use the strength of the opposite hand to hold your forearm and/or hand down against a table to keep it from moving while pushing your injured hand in each direction. Up, Down and side to side.
    • Closed fist stretch of the extensors 20-30 seconds 10 times a day.
    • Heat pack or hot bath and forearm massage from wrist to elbow 3 times per week.
In office treatment was Ultrasound, light therapy and TENS (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation)

How severe was your tear and did it work for you Richard?
Can this work for a complete tear?

    • @richardhasselberger1549
      @richardhasselberger1549 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@alitafullarmor5957 Hi Alita, My condition was not a complete tear. From what was explained to me the most important part of the treatment for a severe tear is to immobilize the wrist so that the two halves of the tear have time to find each other and reconnect. Unfortunately because I had no insurance at the time of my injury I didn't have an MRI of my wrist until almost 2 years later. I really don't know how sever the original tear was but what was determined by the MRI is that the tear was in a location closer to blood flow, that gave me a better chance of recovery than a more centralized tear.
The hand therapist told me that their goal was to improve my wrist function while reducing my pain. Did that happen? Yes. However I only experienced a reduction in pain so long as I continued the therapy. When the therapy ended the pain started to come back and with that a reduction of my capabilities. Since my accident I have not been able to return to the level of function I once had in that wrist.
To answer your question did it work for me...Not completely. Most medical professionals ignore the most important elements to healing. Eat diverse and balanced foods, get plenty of sleep, exercise daily, and reduce stress. In that order. The body will take care of the rest. Every medical professional ignored my shoulder. If you want to reduce stress to the wrist you have to strengthen the shoulder. Any weakness in the shoulder is compensated by the wrist. So my advise is to strengthen ever muscle in your neck and shoulder to give that hand and wrist as much assistance and support as possible.
I wish you the best recovery.
      Kindly,
      -Richard

You can also try PRP injections. It’s relatively cheap, it costs about 150 euros per injection in Europe, no idea about the cost in Australia but could be worth it. No side effects except for 24 hours inflammation & minimum pain when moving hand /wrist. In worst case scenario it does nothing and your pocket is a few hundred dollars less. I’m not a doctor, just giving you my side of the story so it might not work for everyone the same way. Tried it once about 35 days ago on my left wrist and saw about 60% improvement within 3 weeks. Going for second round of PRP in 3 days. If you’re interested I can update you regarding my situation.

you know what pisses me off. i see people doing sports like parkour, jumping off of buildings and what not and not a scratch. i lose my balance playing football on a rainy day and it was a soft landing on the turf and boom, tfcc tear. really winds me up.
doc said i need surgery but i've decided im not gona do with it. i've see improvements with PT. the pain has gone down significantly and my strength keeps regaining. i have been able to achieve all of this without a splint. im doing strength exercises with light weights now. i've read that in some cases these tears heal on their own. my doc says it wont but how many times have these doctors been wrong even though they have data to back their inflated egos. not all doctors i must say.
anyways i hope you make a vid about how you go by your day as someone with this annoying injury. i hope and pray you find the relief you're looking for. and man! you're helping alot of people in their decision making with your info. props to you.

Interesting story. I had TFCC surgery in Jan of 2018 on my right or dominant hand. Because of an incorrect splint I ended up with radial nerve damage which still plagues me today. My hand strength is 35% of what a normal hand strength should be. The surgeon's message was essentially nerves take time to heal. Well, its been over 3 years and while I don't have wrist pain any more the weakness in my right hand is quite troubling.

Jada Dural I had one (I think left but can’t remember) wrist done Winter of 2016/17 and the other the following June. My injury’s origins are unknown however we suspect a previous broken arm/cheerleading (I also recall repeatedly popping my wrist in kindergarten/1st grade). I had physical therapy in 2013ish but it didn’t completely solve my problems. The surgery helped initially BUT I just recently have been having that similar pain again. I had completely forgotten what it’s felt like and I feel the pain coming back harsher and harsher. I’ve been working for the same fast food company for four years and perform repetitive motions for hours straight. I think part of my struggle is a result of that. I’ve already had two steroid shots so I’m not sure if that’s an option (but they definitely worked for a short period of time). In high school I wore a wrist brace and it worked really well I think I’ll have to pick up a pair of those.

Great video, thanks for sharing your insights, I've read numerous studies of how meniscus surgery's efficacy is not well proven. I think just the fact that there are these studies and papers out there shows that there is some dichotomy of opinions in the medical community about surgery's effectiveness. I have a TFCC partial tears on both wrists and did not go for surgery. Its been 7 years on my left hand and almost a year on my right. I've rehabed and strengthened them to a good point where I can pretty much do what I want. However, on rainy days or difficult workouts it still feels unstable. Overall, I cant say that there's been a day when I really wish I had surgery as I can still largely do what I want. Hope I can add to the discussion if anyone is thinking/not thinking of surgery.

Do you have ulnar impaction? I have it on both wrists. Got surgery on right wrist and didn't help, took 2+ years after surgery before I could lift weights. Recently fell on my left wrist, same injury, although the tfcc damage doesn't appear as bad. I'm against surgery bc I think the damage that it did with immobilize my whole arm in a cast was more than the benefit

Since that time I've reinjured it while either lifting weights or playing basketball a multitude of times. The only thing that has helped is rest and CISSUS. Look for a quality supplier or in concentrate form.

Tore my TFCC after dropping my 700 lbs motorcycle. 1st day after the injury I had severe difficulty even moving the wrist. I was worried that it would take me out of my job as a chiropractor. Turning sink taps very painful. Couldn't lift anything. Couldn't put any pressure on the wrist at all. Pronation and Supination also very painful. Good thing that I own a BioFlex laser system which has made the biggest difference in my estimation. I understand that I'm very lucky to be able to treat myself this way. 10 days out from the injury 7 laser treatments and my wrist is about 85% improved. I had a shockwave treatment as well but I'm not sure how effective that was. Richards Hasselberger's comment also has great information.

Trying to trust the process of healing and Physiotherapy but I have to say this is making me very nervous. Any one else out there who has this surgery and has great success in recovery and then being able to turn and grip pain free please let us know.
I also have no grip and my finger tendon feels like too tight to extend.

@ermanakbay Very valid point there! This video was never intended to deter those looking to have surgery but instead to consider that it doesn't always follow the surgeons plan. It's simply another perspective from someone who followed the recommended path and came out worse off for it. When I first had this injury, the available videos from others in my situation were limited and didn't cover my concerns. My hope was to address those for others walking a similar path.
This was just my experience, I hope people watching this have a better one and recover from their injury and if you do, please share your experience here for others to learn from.

None of the conservative therapies worked for me (galvanic bath, then galvan-lidocaine combo > got itchy burns both times, there was some laser therapy, 3 weeks in cast, multiple orthesises, gazillions of NSAIDs in every forms> got gastric ulcer from one of them), all for naught, I'm done with this.
Since 2019 I live with TFCC tear in my right wrist. I first thought it was a muscle strain, but the pain got stronger and I only went to the doctor when I started to have a burning sensation in my fingers on the side of the tear, they would get red, hot and swollen several times a day, strangely it passed before I had the therapies, I don't know why nor what it was.
I'm waiting for surgery - postponed because of Covid 5(!) times, it seems the 6th one is about to happen as well - and the pain just getting worse and worse, not to mention losing function. Now I can't open a bottle, can't use my bike, etc. it really makes my life harder and worst of all: I can't work in neither of my professions.
It is a very unfortunate situation to get to the "wrong doctor" (I took my fair share of that), but I left with no choice now, other then undergo the surgery.

Currently my symptoms have been more aggressive. It's largely due to my son being born and all that comes with taking care of a baby but the pain is manageable for the time being and I'm sure will revert back to normal once the anti inflammation meds do their job. I stopped doing push-ups in favour of using dumbbells as it gave me more control over both the weight as well as the position of my wrists during exercise which works better for me. Pullups are mostly cable machine now when I exercise for the same reasons.

I have a high-grade partial tear in the central portion of the tfcc. My tear is caused by a rear end car accident back in early Jan. It's been a long 9 month journey. I feel like my hand is getting worse. Recently got my EMG results which show nerve damage in one of my neck discs which is also causing some of the symptoms in my right hand. I've been going to PT. I tried cortisone injection and prescription. I've been wearing a wrist splint since Sept. 17. I've had a few people tell me that the wrist will never heal on its own without surgery. Like with all surgery there is no guarantee for success. I have literary tried everything except for surgery. I am also dealing with neck pain from the car accident because I have herniated discs. My hand is in constant pain. I can't rest my hand comfortably in an position. I also have constant tingly/numb feeling in my ring and pinky finger. I'm also experiencing numb feeling in the center of my palm. My family wants me to get epidural injections in my neck first to deal with that problem, then can see about surgery. I'm just tired of the pain, but I also know that the surgery healing journey will be a long one as well. I don't know if surgery would be a good idea for me or not

Ok, that's interesting. I think I'll start asking that question to others in similar situations as yourself. I wonder if there is a practice of using an x-ray in place of an MRI based on the level of cover?
I did more research and it appears that using an x-ray is common practice because of its lower cost. However it's still clear that it will not determine any physical damage to the cartilage. Below is some info I copied from another site:
      (Radiological Assessment
The two main radiological exams to assess the TFCC are X-rays and MRIs. Though x-rays do not show soft tissues, they provide insight into the position and alignment of bony structures within joints. This enables them to provide a lower cost way of assessing whether a TFCC dysfunction or tear may be present. When using X-rays to assess for potential TFCC pathology, ulnar variance is calculated. Positive ulnar variance correlates with TFCC tears, though you cannot be 100% certain with an X-ray alone, since you cannot visualize the soft tissues themselves [7].
Unlike X-rays, an MRI shows soft tissue structures, allowing assessing physicians to visualize the structures of the TFCC to determine whether or not a tear or lesion is present. Studies show that MRIs can have an 86% sensitivity for detecting TFCC tears or lesions [6].
Once it is determined that a TFCC lesion or tear is present, the surgeon will decide whether or not to pursue surgical repair or to try a conservative, non-operative, treatment plan. The treatment option that is selected impacts the rehabilitation clinician’s approach to treating patients with a TFCC injury or tear. In part 2, we’ll review treatment methods and protocols for both conservative and post-surgical rehabilitation of patients with TFCC injuries and lesions.)
This information is inline with what I was told when I first went through my treatment and then surgery. My surgeon (even the new one) has never sent me for an x-ray as it does not illustrate specifics, only possibilities.
But in any case I think if it's affordable, the MRI will tell you more.
Hope this helps in some way.

I had the surgery 8mo this ago now and I have never made a full recovery. I can do push-ups and punch a bag but I do live in constant pain with it. It’s not much pain but it does hurt. I do have pretty painful episodes like if I use my wrist a lot or weather patterns change rapidly. But even with that I highly recommend the surgery.

My surgeon said that the xray was to rule out other possible injuries. She then opted to go straight to surgery as MRI doesn't always show the problem. Cost must enter in to the equation at some point, I assume.

    • @emilioevenlighten2851
      @emilioevenlighten2851  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Jocelyn, that’s a tough question to answer objectively. On one hand I had the surgery thinking specialised surgeons would have the skill and resources to make having surgery worthwhile. On the other hand my experience was horrible. I never wanted to share my experiences to sway others from their own journey, I merely wanted to bring awareness to the possibilities as the path ahead is not always as straight forwards as some surgeons might have you believe.
If my surgery had gone well I would still be sharing my experience objectively and not with the intent on swaying the opinions of others. Some people’s conditions are far worse than mine and so for them it’s a matter of “when” to go under the knife and not “if”

That sounds like a frustrating situation mate. If you aren't comfortable with the answers your getting from your surgeon I'd recommend speaking to another one about your situation. But before you lock in any appointments with a new one, make sure they're clear that you intend for them to review your previous surgeons work and that they're comfortable in doing so.
I booked a follow-up appointment with another surgeon after my first one let me down. He took the appointment which I waited several months for but on the day of the appointment he refused to comment on the quality of the work of the first surgeon because they knew each other.
So make yourself clear what you expect before booking if you go that way.
Good luck mate. All the best

I'm hoping to get my first injection within the next week so I pray things will get better after that coz I don't think I could mange with this injury for as long as you have. I'm much better now to be honest. I wouldn't say my injury has completely recovered as if I push it I can easily aggravate again but I think I've learnt how to live with it more than anything. I'm certainly nowhere near in as much pain as the first few years post surgery. I started using a grip strengthening device which I believe played a huge part in protecting the cartilage by enhancing the surrounding muscle.

I'm surprised you were having so much pain and other symptoms. I've had my first TFCC surgery with a completelely torn apart tfcc (they refixed it with kind of a string) moreover my ulna had to be shortened and fixed together with 7 screws and a plate because of an ulna impaction syndrom... the same surgery was on my left hands 4 days ago. Today my right hand is nearly perfect without any pain after only 6 weeks,, i need 3 month of rest for each hand tho. Maybe I was just extremely lucky. Would apreciate an answer! Best regards.

Hi Emilio, I really appreciate your videos regarding the TFCC surgery. I am 19 years old from Sweden. I am very athletic and competing at a high level in olympic class sailing, and do a lot of physical training.
The process to diagnose my wrist pains has taken a very long time and recently it was confirmed that i have TFCC tears on both my wrists... I have adapted my physical/sailing training to minimise pain which has worked okay, but no long term solution, so now I have decided to do the surgery. My doctor tells me the whole surgery process will roughly take 4 months (per hand) until full load with cast first 6 weeks approximately. Planning on doing first surgery start of August.
    A few questions:
    - Do you think I can do surgery on the other wrist as soon as I get the cast off from the first hand or will it be too weak and fragile to write, type, eat, etc...?
    - Could you write with your dominant hand with the cast on and as soon as it was removed? (will start studying at uni after summer)
    - Is it possible to go running with the cast on? or too much pain?

Hi there, Apologies for late reply. For me personally when I took the splint off after 6 weeks my wrist felt as though they had fused the bone. People relate to this like a psychological splint. Depending on how strict you are on your post surgery stretches you may gain that mobility back by week 8. I personally wouldn't do the other wrist straight after just to be sure your first operation was a success first and hasn't come with complications like mine did.

injections may work but ONLY if you totally immobilize your wrist in a splint for 3 months or sth. like that. I've met people which were able to heal their TFCC with this but you really need to immoblize the wrist for the TFCC to heal.

Finally going to the doctor I was told what was wrong. I was also told I was too young to have surgery because of certain circumstances. So two years later I finally was allowed to try therapy. Hello Emilio, some good advice there mate. I have had 7 ops on my right wrist, 2 of which were TFCC repairs. My TFCC has NEVER been right since the first op! My surgeon says my TFCC is shredded. I now have to have a DRUJ replacement as my symptoms are getting worse, so that will be 8 ops!! . My initial injury happened in 1985, fractured my scaphoid and possibly some other bones but it never got seen to. Tried twice to repair the scaphoid (some 6 years later) but it was necrotic (dead) I then had to have a scaphoid exorcism & a 4 corner fusion that failed and had that revised twice ... LUCKILY now I'm under a professor of hand surgery and he's sorted out the fusion aspect of my wrist bones, tried the 2nd TFCC repair but as said above the symptoms are getting worse .... so 8 operations on 1 wrist

I've been off for almost 8 months ive had dry needling for my 4 pulled tendons physio nerves checked more physio MRI xray and just out of wrist specialist appointment. Now all that is left is detriment. If that doesn't help the healing last resort is an ulnar shortening.
My ulnar is slightly longer than radius which increases the tfcc injury and a reoccurring injury

Situation on my end hasn't improved unfortunately. The only thing I haven't tried yet are stem cell injections. That's mainly because they are really expensive. I'm doing some research into trying to get sponsored for treatment. The idea is to document my procedures and determine if stem cell therapy can help cartilage regeneration and how much it costs to get the job done. If I can't get sponsored though I may end up seeing if a kickstarter or gofundme campaign might achieve some success.

@@doris0713 I have delayed my surgery indefinitely. I wear a ‘switch’ which supports my wrist 24x7 and I have a wrist support device on my desk which cradles my arm. I can function perfectly with these supports in place and I will delay my surgery for as long as I can. I’ve started to use red light therapy on my wrist but I don’t think it’s helping and if anything it’s a bit more tender after use. So really the only things I can’t do are push-ups and other weight baring activities but I can lift weights with only minimal discomfort

@@emilioevenlighten2851 sure I would love to share my experience, sorry it took so long. Initially after the surgery, due to the surgery you're going to experience a lot of pain for the first few days which I did. After that most of my pain was due to the same discomfort you described in your video, for example; with the splint that I had on the first week or two my elbow began to get really sore because there's no padding or the padding is just not enough, so you're going to get some friction and pain, also at the surgical site along the tfcc side of the wrist due to your cast or splint putting constant pressure on the area you will experience pain and discomfort. Whenever this pain and discomfort became too intractable I simply went back and had the splint rewrapped. For my pain I was given hydrocodone 5 mg and was allowed to double up on doses but in the beginning it didn't seem to help much, a couple of painful sleepless nights I had to deal with. So far I'm about 3 weeks in with maybe 3 weeks left in a cast a good portion of the surgical pain if not all that pain is gone it's just the discomfort now from wearing the splint/cast. I've had my cast on for a few days now and already I feel the need to go back and have my cast redone with more padding those areas just continue to be a nuisance. My injury occurred at work so it was a workman's comp affair which took 4 months to get a proper diagnosis. They wanted to stop at x-ray which showed nothing, I had to push and push until I got the care I needed which again took 4 months and in the meantime it tried to repair itself several times and not knowing what was going on and continuing to use the hand I ruptured it several times so had to deal with that pain for months before the surgery and now the surgery itself. Anyone out there who may have gotten this injury at work don't give up until you get what you deserve.

Thanks a lot brother for the informative video. I also had a tfcc tear last month at gym. Since then i have consulted 3 different doctors all of them say same thing. They have asked me to have a splint for 3 weeks to immobilise the joint and if after 3 weeks pain persists than surgery is the only option. I am still confused since i had a friend who had a same injury and he did have a surgery but it was too painful for him and it took about 8 long months for him to fully recover. I dont want to have a surgery but there is no other way out since doctors whom i have consulted say that in long run if the tear is not cured it may lead to arthritis.

Hey Akhil, thanks for watching and for your positive feedback brother! Much appreciated.
That sounds right regarding the possibility of Arthritis and that is why I'm having my follow-up surgery. I am concerned of the very same thing and I don't want my symptoms to get worse later on.
I think it's a good idea for everyone to start increasing their intake of collagen as it is a key contributor to cartilage regeneration. You can get it in powder form and just add it to your water or beverages to consume it. Depending on how far gone your injuries are it may help prevent further degeneration or even (hopefully) begin to reverse it.
      Good luck man.

@@TheKwadwo14 sorry brother for not being able to respond as your notifications got mixed up with other insignificant recommendations of TH-cam and I was not able to see it but today while going through my profile activity I saw all of your request for update. Since it’s been an year I hope you have recovered well and enjoying your life.
Now coming back to my tfcc status let me share my full story from where I left 2 yrs ago. It will be a bit long so kindly bear.
My first tear happened in 2018 and after getting MRI done I went to several physicians they all told me to undergo surgery after all conventional therapies were over with no improvement in condition as I have mentioned above. Later I went to a very renowned physician he gave me expensive cortisone injections and told me to not undergo surgery right away as surgery is invasive, painful and recovery is long and not always 100 percent in case of wrist soft tissues as they are small and asked me to wait until tissue heals itself(though didn’t tell me exactly for how long). Cortisone shots were very effective and my pain subsided within 2 weeks and 1 month later went again to gym and started lifting. Everything seemed okay except I felt a little weak in my left wrist. Suddenly few days later I started feeling pain which got worse and I knew tear has again aggravated. I went to same doctor and again he gave me cortisone shots but this time pain didn’t went away fully. I lost hope of hitting gym ever and lamented for not waiting to able ligament to heal. I went again for therapies but everything was ineffective. So this time I knew I had to wait. I waited for long 3 - 4 months and condition was as it is. I changed my physician again and went to a government hospital. Now just to inform in India government hospitals are very cheap and the physicians have fixed salaries irrespective of the money they make for the hospitals. To be precise physicians don’t have any targets and they will tell you treatment without any motive to earn money. I showed my all past treatment copies to my new physician, he studied them diligently and told me to undergo a laser therapy for my wrist and no medications. He asked me to wait for atleast an year and start some other activity which helps me keep my mind off my wrist. I was distressed but this time I followed his advice. I started playing badminton from 2019 mid and forgot that I ever had injury. Since badminton involved just my right hand my healing has been good and as of today 31st dec 2020 my tfcc tear has completely healed and I am ready to hit gym again once pandemic aftereffects are reduced substantially. So if you are someone who has got tfcc tear my only advice from my experiences is be patient and just take your mind off from the injury. I have seen people who have been affected with tfcc for years because of being impatient. Surgery can also be considered but it is painful and expensive. If you are a fitness freak I know how tempting it would be to continue with your normal routine despite having tfcc but it will only delay the recovery. At last I would just say that please don’t consider my words above as any professional advice because it’s just my personal experience and I believe it could be helpful to you to make right decisions for your well being.

With a full tear you'd be wanting to consider surgery but first having a surgeon you feel confident in buy asking what they believe they could do to help you if you had surgery? They should be able to explain what steps they might take to repair the damage. My first surgeon was vague, didn't really explain and just said he'd fix whatever has could. I know now that type of answer was a red flag. Especially if it interferes with your career you may want to consider surgical intervention. Hey Simon, thanks for watching and for sharing your story.
First thing I'd do if I were you is to go and get an MRI. It's the only scan that will identify a tear in the TFCC. I've been hearing from a lot of people that they are being referred for xrays however this will not identify cartilage as the scan is specific for bone.
Also, in the interim you should invest in a TFCC wrist widget. It's cheap but really helpful in reducing load and there for symptoms of a TFCC injury.
Once you have the MRI you will have a better understanding of the state of your injury and what limits you should put on the types of exercises you do at the gym.

Wow sounds like you had a horrible surgeon. My surgeon is great and explains everything to me in detail and spends a lot of time with me and I have honestly never waited longer than 10 minutes for my appointment. He’s at one of the leading hand surgery centers in my state also so I’m hoping everything will work out. I know with any surgery there are risks of it not working and there being other damage done also and sometimes it is the surgeons fault and sometimes it’s your body not healing. I have been suffering for over a year with my problem trying tons of different therapies and nothing has worked so I am going in for surgery next week. I have been unable to use my wrist at all not for the past 2 months because it has gotten so bad, so I’m thinking the risks outweigh the benefits for me because if I still can’t use it after my surgery at least something was tried. I also am having dead bone removed because I have a vascular necrosis from when I broke my wrist and the blood supply not going to the bone like it should so my surgery will be somewhat different from yours because I will also have that done as well.
I do think that a lot of people should think about what their injury is and most definitely research your doctor and make sure they don’t have any medical malpractice suits or anything against them which you should do before seeing any doctor in my opinion anyway. Then look and see if the risks are better than staying in the excruciating pain you are in or if taking that leap and trying the surgery can’t make it any worse than what it is. Everyone has different experiences and most people fully recover from this surgery but as for any surgery there are those who don’t. I’m really sorry yours didn’t work for you and I hope by now you have had your wrist taken care of properly and are pain free. But people should definitely do research on their dr and the surgery before having anything done to try and avoid this from happening.

First I'd like to clarify I am not qualified to give medical advice. I can only offer opinions based on my experience and that of others who have shared their journeys with me. That being said:
I'd get a wrist widget for support asap. If it is your tfcc, the widget should help ease your pain while you investigate further. The only way to know for sure is with an MRI. Have you had any scans done?
A GP referral is what's required here im Australia. Ask your GP about anti inflammatory medication to help manage the flair ups.
Try to avoid pronation and supination type movements as these tend to aggravate the condition.
When gripping or twisting with your injured hand, place more focus on using your fingers.
Ice and heat are your friends. They say heat stimulates blood flow and therefore healing however for me, I feel ice works best.
