Dr. John McDougall & Dr. Fuhrman have both blessed my life! Thank-you Dr. McDougall for taking the courageous decision to interview Dr. Fuhrman! As a nurse I can say that you both are heros!
I caught a late night PBS program a few years ago of Dr. Fuhrman speaking, and normally I’m rather skeptical, but his message piqued my interest so much, I ended up buying his book, Eat To Live and I started following his advice. I lost 75 lbs in about 11 months. My Doctor took me off my blood pressure medication, and aspirin. I’m 69 now and this was about 3 years ago. I love both these men, and I’ve educated myself on both their view points. I think they have more in common than not. I feel amazing and I am truly grateful for Dr. Fuhrman's passion and getting his message out. Drs.T. Colin Campbell, Caldwell Esselstyn, Dean Ornish, and all the others have made an indelible impression on me and I will be forever grateful. I’d love to visit the U.S. someday and see them at one of their conferences. 🇨🇦
I’ve listened to talks by these doctors extensively and the biggest difference I can see is that Dr. McDougall wants people to be healthier but Dr. Fuhrman is looking for optimum health, the gold standard. If people just want to get healthier, they can follow Dr. McDougall. But if they really want to strive for optimum health and longevity, Dr. Fuhrman is the way to go!
Dr McDougall wants to get everyone in the tent with sustainable food ! And yes Dr. Fuhrman is going to try to live to 100 and be healthy every step of the way ! I think you do what is sustainable for you long term. I think McDougall starts you and you add more and more Fuhrman and stop craving crap after you're satieted by great foods !
I'm doing McDougall to lose weight and make a habit of eating healthy foods. Then I'll add nuts and seeds when I want to maintain. I was also born with heart issues so I wonder if I should stay away from fat in general.
@@suicune2001 Check Dr Esselstyn if heart disease is your #1 priority. He suggests (commands LOL for his heart patients) to eat a fist sized nitrate rich vegetable after every meal (and those are healthy too) , he tells you (kale, arugula, spinach , broccolli and others) 6 times a day after breakfast. at 10am, after lunch, 3pm , after dinner and for your last evening snack. Just bathing your arteries in pure and protective and nutrient filled goodness !!!
@@SuperDodoe I think you can do it without those supplements but I can see everyone is in business and if he feels these are the hardest nutrients, vitamins, etc that most people miss then I undestand that, but personally I don't think you can refute the GBOMBS as a good habit , can you ?
Dr Fuhrman you are a blessing for mankind! Your work and teachings are second to none. You have no ego, no alternative agenda except the improvement of people's health. I thank you and bless you Dr Fuhrman!
Dr. Mc Dougall. I have lived your recommendations for three years now :lost 30 pounds, got off my BP med and at 71, am enjoying health. This interview has solidified my belief in you and the dignity of our vegan movement beyond words. Giving Dr. Furman this chance to talk and give his point of view was amazing. It is really true:we in the vegan community need to get over ourselves and focus on the greater cause....the health of our planet. I give you a huge bravo! Job well done!
I am on keto and lowered my bp. Curious how much it lowered your bp. Lost 12 pounds on keto since 5 weeks ago and look like I did at my best. Still open to learn how this diet could be better. Just hope it doesnt end with me getting Rashes ans bloatibg like before.
White rice has a healthy omega 6 to omega 3 ratio while brown rice does not have a healthy ratio. Beans and potatoes have a good ratio but many nuts and seeds other than walnuts and flaxseed have an unhealthy ratio. This is where McDougall shines over Fuhrman. Fuhrman shines over McDougall by stressing the cancer healing advantages of foods such as berries, greens, broccoli, mushrooms, celery, and carrots.
Fuhrman research assistant already clarified that she made the error. Fuhrman was a world class athlete,he approaches his profession in the same way, with the goal of providing ultimate longevity and ultimate health to his followers. The starch solution is missing important details, such as the need for checking D which is not gotten. In food except for mushrooms that have been exposed to sunlight.
Amidst all the noise, ego and controversy, it was tremendously satisfying to see these two GIANTS have a professional, amicable and respectful conversation with one another. They are both heroes of mine and of many, and when you see your heroes enjoy and respect one another's company, it brings a joy like no other:) Bravo!
ok Larry. Fair enough. What would you like to fix? These are two guys who stand by their respective approaches. You have the right to choose who you feel is most valid.
Ha! Pleasantly surprised as I thought you would be on the Hollywood Jeff side of things :-) Larry, I agree with you but to a point. I do not think McDougall is a low life. I do believe, however, that he is very staunch in his approach and has been for quite a while. To the point where he vehemently dismisses other ideas. As does Dr. Furman, by the way. Unlike you, I have been a fan of Dr. Fuhrman‘s for quite a while. I even visited his office last May. As these past few years have gone on I have gravitated more towards Fuhrman‘s approach. I do think that Hollywood Jeff is a little bit of a gnat. I agree with you on that. He also seems to have impregnated plant based news over there in the UK with his ideas and thoughts. Bottom line, I’m not gonna let Jeff Nelson deter me from a fuhrman approach. As far as MacDougall is concerned, I will remain a fan of his, as I have except as far as McDougall is concerned, I will remain a fan of his, And I know full well that he is very aware of from his approach, but disagrees. They both agree to disagree with each other. That was the point of the video. And it was nice to see it done amicably. Don’t let the Jeff Nelsons of the world bring you down. Best.
@@jacksonblack2776 Most people realize you are not required to purchase any supplements from either Dr. Nor do you have to attend Dr. Campbell's certification class at over $1000. I follow Dr. Fuhrman's suggestions. I have never taken any of his supplements. None needed unless you are deficient. Most Drs inc Fuhrman agree. Dr. McDougall also has some good info despite selling his retreats. You are not required to go to those either.
He offers supplements to enhance health and we will be the better for getting enough Vit.D and,DHA.He helpfully as well offers things like easy to use salad dressings for people who don't have time to follow his recipes and blend their own.
At the very least it seems to me that anyone who knows Dr Fuhrman and his work at all can see he's an ethical and honest person. Let's focus on real problems, like why do so many vegans get into nutritional trouble after a few years? It is worth considering, IMHO, that Dr Fuhrman's work sheds needed illumination on that problem.
Dudes are splitting hairs here. Vegan lifestyle with a few nuts, seeds and starches. All good. Stay away from oils and animals and we are good. The dang processed vegan foods and high calorie stuff is no good. More and more people are eating “vegan” junk. Have to watch those calories like Furhman says. Two awesome doctors...visionaries. Part of a team of experts that changed my life for the better. Hats off to you both.
The Indian Warrior - American docs are no better. Sometimes we have to take things into our own hands- with knowledge gained from doctors and researchers who teach the truth.
This discussions are good, we need them. We need disagreement ,without we would not make process. But we should it not see as a fundamental disagreement.
@@larrymaloney877 I think Dr Mcdougall was respectful and reasonable in this interview but you make an excellent point. Love your nickname for the vegsource guy; he's such a sleaze.
Agreed! Bravo to Dr. McDougall for addressing the criticisms about Fuhrman’s methods head-on and giving him an opportunity to explain them in his own voice. I very much appreciated the very frank, no BS questioning and look forward to seeing John take on the forces that are destroying the environment! Go Dr. McDougall!
I love both these men. Either one of their diets will lead you to insanely high levels of health. Some days I eat starch based, some days I eat more Fuhrman based with a larger amount of calories coming from plant based protein sources and overt fats like nuts/seeds. After five years on this lifestyle I can listen to my body and know what it needs.
NatuHealth I couldn’t agree more with your comment. I even add a teaspoon of hemp oil, flax oil, or Udos oil to my diet each day...and it has drastically improved my health. Sticking to Mcdougall’s extremely low fat and protein I believe actually harmed my health. Fuhrman’s more balanced approach saved my ass. Not saying Mcdougalls is bad, if it works for you keep doing it, but it’s important to change your plan if after say six months or so into a change you are still not seeing good results.
delita tyrez I know, I’ve literally read all his books and anyone who has studied the plant based nutritionists for two shakes knows that, but adding small amounts of omega3 rich oils made with health in mind has benefitted my body immensely. At one time I was dogmatic about oils, now I definitely avoid them, but am open to trying new supplements as my body heals from years of poor dietary choices.
Always been a fan of Dr Joel Fuhrman. Never liked Dr John McDougall till recently but today I'm absolutely won over. I'm So impressed with how he handles this interview on so many levels. Master communicator peacemaker
Read both the starch solution and eat to live. I combined both schools of thought and dropped 28 lbs and have never been healthier. Very thankful to both men. 💯
How did you combine both? One is starch based, no oil, very little whole plant fat sources, and other is non-starchy veggies, green leafies, legumes, and more generous amounts of fatty plant foods like avocado and nuts.
@@calisongbird I eat avocados and nuts, just in limited amounts. By the way, I went from 221 lbs to 174 lbs at 6 foot tall. So, I think it worked out. I learned that you can have a variety of foods just don't over indulge in fats, oils etc.
This was the most heart warming "vegan experience" I have had in a long time. Love, Love, Loved this conversation. I look at both Dr's. as icons for using food nutrition to get well, and I hope before either of them leave this physical life they write a paper together that becomes the teaching protocol for other physicians to recommend a vegan or whole food plant based diet regardless of the nut, starch, or supplement focus. Just get to healing people and the planet and don't concentrate on the little differences. I hope they both now realize they are closer in their approach than they are different, and are passionate about patient care. We need more physicians like this.
Great interview as always. Glad you gave Dr. Fuhrman a chance to share his side. People are so willing to give up their thinking and decision making to anyone that can speak in an authoritative manner. It's easy to see that you both are passionate about helping people and the overall message and work that you both share is highly respectable and valuable.
How about use science and not opinion, like Fuhrman, zero opinion, total science........eating potatoes all the time, that is common sense that that is very bad for your blood (Macdougall), what does that tell ya......follow the science, as Fuhrman does
Not really...Mcdougall feeling sorry for Fuhrman is far from repairing the rift. Fuhrmans a hustler that will say, and do anything to promote his business.
Eat To Live, Dr Fuhrman’s book is what convinced me to go to plant based eating! He has the most science and experience curing people with his tactics.
Incredible interview. Really appreciate the two intelligent men passionately sharing lifestyle changes. I have been following Dr. Joel Fuhrman for several years and love his program. I have also attended Dr. Mc Doughalls seminar and met him as I live in Santa Rosa. I love starches but I prefer large amounts of greens above all. I limit my nuts and seeds but feel they are so important. For my five day a week workouts. Both men are so passionate about helping people. Gentlemen: thank you. Continue on and may the whole Food plant based life become our nations forward thinking.! Dr mcDoughall, you are a true gentleman to be willing to line up this forum up and to publish it here. It’s a disgrace that the vegsource report would create this rift in what is truly THE MOST IMPORTANT dietary lifestyle available free to people. Plants. Not animals. You both have been and remain truly pioneers in our future.
Yes! Our doctors do not need any middle man to speak out what is right and what is wrong. They coexist and work together for public health and plant strong movement. Great interview! Thanks a lot for both of you!
Dr. McDougall, thank you for posting this calm, respectful, educational conversation. Other vegan leaders arguing with hyperbole and drama about minutae has been a real turnoff to people new to the plant-based, whole foods movement. A sense of perspective is needed. We all need to band together to spread the message of plant-based whole foods, and the tremendous impact it can have on the larger world -- for human health, for animal survivol, and for the well-being of the planet. Thank you so much for being the gold standard for leadership in this movement.
@@siriuslee9278 why is everyone accusing Fuhrman of fraud? And if he has so many haters, why are you and them even watching this video featuring Fuhrman?
Dr Joel is the man. I made the shift to gbombs over three years ago and it's been amazing. At 55 and still getting stronger and healthier and more muscular and more leaner. Don't by be fooled. If you are athletic and you learn and apply good technique with resistance training like athleanX, you can maintain and/or increase.
The almost funny thing is that the Whole Foods Plant Based experts agree on so much, they have to strain to find things to disagree on. The result is hair-splitting which might matter to experts, doctors and scientists, but not to the average Joe like me. WFPB is the way to go . . . period.
Thank you for interviewing Dr. Fuhrman. I am a grateful patient of Dr. Fuhrman. He is a genius, leverages science and one of the best doctors I encountered.
❤ I MISS YOU Dr. McDougall. YOU ARE DEFINETELY IN HEAVEN. THANK YOU!!! I came back to this video to reafirm from these 2 Masters. Thank you Dr. Furhman.
Thank you Dr. McDougall for bringing Joel Fuhrman on! I appreciate your tone with him. I really dislike all the “.fighting” and name calling in the WFPB vegan community. You both have valid points and perhaps favorite scientific studies that you each base your medical practices. While I chose to follow his program, I have no doubt in my mind that you and your program has helped 10s of thousands heal and live a better and longer life. I wish followers of each “side” would treat the opposite side with the gracious respect you’ve shown to Dr. Fuhrman. It’s like religion. Or politics. Each of you is unlikely to convince the other of your side 109%. Small points separate you. Thanks again Dr. McDougall for being so humble and treating him so respectfully in light of the ugly rumors circulating. I highly respect you for this. ❤️🌱
Dr.Mcdougall again and again proves by his knowledge and gesture that he is an ultimate soul in this plant based diet community.Such people visit on this planet rarely.
And he was right about fat and potatoes all along! Check out top selling author, Medical Medium who has helped millions heal. It all backs low overt fat.
By adhering to both ways of eating I have just been demoted from secondary progressive MS to basically MS in remission with virtually no residual symptoms.! I am so very grateful thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Stephanie Bourne That's amazing!! Was your walking getting bad? Whose diet do you think you follow more closely? I need to put ms into remission as well...if not completely healing from it. Thank you. Xx

Really love this discussion. Great interview Dr. McDougall! I personally eat closer to a mcdougall starch based diet. I love fuhrman’s “gbombs” recommendations and his nuggets about myrosinase 🌱💚
Both these doctors are amazing. I’ve combined their approaches in my life and have never been healthier or happier. All this drama is so unnecessary - the internet is big enough for everyone.
The worst thing with the Vegsource travesty is how Jeff commits all the sins he complains about from others. He mis-characterized what Dr. Greger said on multiple occasions (still no apology that I have seen) and he also is inept at reading and interpreting studies. He lambastes epidemiological studies and yet does an entire video on the anecdotal reports of one doctor in Japan. He is a hypocrite and youtube drama queen. I have unsubscribed from his channel and no longer view his videos.
Veg source guy is not a doctor... he must think he is one though. When I saw his video talking so badly about Dr Furhman I thought he made himself look so petty and unprofessional. Thank you for doing this interview Dr McDougall ! It was excellent!
The Fuhrman diet is the nutritionally superior diet. The McDougall diet is palpable enough and sustainable enough for the masses. I love and owe a lot to them both. I’ve wondered for a long time why they can’t be friends! You guys have so much more in common than different!
It seems that Dr. McDougall is bringing up petty issues. Hopefully this will clear the air so every can move on for the better good. Dr. Fuhrman is a brilliant man of high integrity in my opinion.
Great discussion...I've tried both. I always felt hungry on Nutritarian way of eating. I love my starches and eat GBOMBS. Bottom line for me, eat more plants.
Through Dr.Furhman, I learned the difference between hunger vs toxic hunger; and the importance of extended catabolic phase. Maybe what you are experiencing is toxic hunger.
Both of these doctors are leaders in the movement towards drug free and junk food free healing. This movement is growing because of the undeniable results they achieved in healing multiple incurable diseases. We, their fans, would love to see them accepting their differences and workinkg together towards improving what they know and improving their already great results. May be one day there will be "one diet fits all", but does it really have to be? Great respect and best wishes to both doctors! Lu
Thank you Dr. McDougall for doing this respectful and professional interview. I really think that the attacks on Dr. Fuhrman have been unwarranted. Jeff Nelson is harming the reputation of plant-based diet as well as himself by what he's doing.
Great interview. I have been following Dr. Fuhrman’s Eat to Live for almost 6 years. The emphasis on nutrient dense foods with very small amounts of fat from nuts and seeds has worked beautifully for me. 60 pounds dropped in the first 9 months and kept them off without effort. High blood pressure, high cholesterol and prediabetes all reversed. It makes me sad that some have maligned his character. He is a hero to me. The value of the information in that book is inestimable. His vitamins are a good value if you comparison shop, by the way.
That was one hell of an introduction for Dr. Fuhrman 💪 I laughed at what Dr. McDougall has been described as ( 01:25 ) I’d describe both of them as: -very intelligent people who are generous to share their great knowledge -certainly not rude, just not lulling people to sleep telling them lies to comfort their unhealthy lifesytle choices -brilliant story tellers during their speeches without sugarcoating the truth -they're not angry, probably just really fed up with and tired by people still questioning the vegan lifestyle & evidence Always a pleasure to listen to McDougall and Fuhrman as well as all plant-based medicine physicians. THIS is the content youtube needs more of.
My life has been so blessed to have benefitted from all the excellent, science-based information that Dr. Fuhrman has offered throughout his medical career. I am proud of how brilliant and gracious he was during this interview...so telling of his fine character. I am signed up to participate in his 10-in-20 guided detox program tomorrow and I can't wait. Paula Yusem
Thank you so much, Dr. McDougall, for doing this interview! I respect both of you and feel this interview has cleared up the confusion. Dr. Fuhrman’s book, Eat to Live, was my introduction to a nutritious diet, but I’ve also incorporated more starch. Both of you have helped so many people and I, for one, am thankful to God, and both of you, for how you have helped so many people to live better.
That was a great interview, I appreciated the questions and the opportunity for Dr Fuhrman to explain and support his reputation and hard work, and also address the attacks made on his past research recently. Dr McDougall, your interview and how well you and he communicated today in an amicable way, supporting the positive sides of each other's work and accomplishments, was refreshing! Thank you for handling the interview the way a friend and colleague would. We can only grow by continuing to seek the truth.
Thank you so much Dr. McDougall for this interview for respecting Dr. Fuhrman and allowing him a platform for him to rebattle his viewpoints in such a manner. You are such an inspiration to how we should approach people and the planet as we go about our lives on this beautiful planet.
I'm a big fan of both, I'm pursuing becoming a physician as well and have met Dr. Furhman in a health conference. My story is similar to his, getting interested in nutrition/lifestyle for health ever since high school, and now my goal is to utilize it primarily in my future practice! Studying nutritional biochemistry really opened my eyes about the wonderful world of phytonutrients! Nutritional research is needed more than ever, and thankfully more and more funding is sent in that direction :) As for the controversy with the fat, the type of fat matters and they are obviously not all created equally. We need healthy fats for many reasons, but especially for brain health. The studies are quite clear on this! Vegetarians who cut out all fats, even nuts and seeds have a higher chance of Dementia, Alzheimer's, and as Furhman mentions here- Higher chances of cardiac events, strokes, etc. Also, not all starches are created equal! This is why I prefer Furhman's Nutritarian approach generally. Btw, Dr. Furhman looks a heck of a lot younger than 6 years younger than Dr. McDougall!
Who is consuming zero fat? Even lettuce contains saturated fat. I try as hard as I can to consume as few fats as possible and I still get 5-15 grams of fat per day. Dr. Mcdougall looks older but he has very fair skin and light eyes. He's at least half-Irish. He said that he spends a lot of time in the skin-destroying sun.
Bravo to you both.... .Thank you Dr McDougall for allowing DrFuhrman to speak to this topic...He is obviously a committed doctor interested in improving the health of the people! I enjoyed this video!
Dr. Fuhrman took the high road in this discussion. He is truthful and willing to clarify anything for the good of his patients. I lost 60 lbs. on Dr. Fuhrman's diet and he mentioned this is an average for his patients although some have lost much more. He knows the science and is always learning more.
Thank you and Congratulations to you both, it’s very nice to see you both together sharing different views, all for the same purpose, to help others change to a healthier way of life. Thank you again, Dr. Fuhrman, I’ve been on your program since February 2019, and lost 40 lbs. I am in perfect health now, and taking no medication whatsoever. I’m planning on losing 10 more pounds, and my blood workup is impressive as well. I could not have done it, without your help.
This was a brilliant interview. And very honourable to give your support to Joel at this point in time, given the circumstances. It would be intriguing to see an extensive, friendly debate on the areas you disagree on in the future.
Beautifully done with much dignity and candour. So lovely see a discussion not an attack like we see in the political realm. Both of these very caring doctors have the health and wellbeing of people in general first and foremost in kind. Thank you Dr McDougall for clarifying the situation and giving Dr Fuhrman and platform to clear his good name!
I respect both of these guys. It was not until I started adding more good fats to my diet that I started to do much better with my diet, in terms of feeling and looking better. I guess I can say that my diet is a Nutritarian Diet with plenty of starch.
Really great interview Dr. McD! So glad you are facilitating a "burying of the hatchet". Both of you helped tremendously in my wife's recovery of Stage 4 breast cancer. We were fortunate to spend time on retreats with both of you. Much gratitude to you both.
You too have everything in common1 Let' work together to make sure that this planet can be habitable for our children and grandchildren. I love both of you!
I appreciate Dr. McDougall speaking directly with Dr. Fuhrman about the differences between their two dietary approaches. After starting with a starch-based diet, I now follow the nutritarian diet. For me, I feel better eating this way. I still eat some starch, some oatmeal for breakfast, or a cup of brown rice or quinoa with dinner. But the emphasis Dr. Fuhrman places on vegetables and salads has dramatically improved my energy and well being. As I encourage my patients to move towards plant-based eating, and to eat as many vegetables that they can, I recommend they start with either The Starch Solution or Eat to Live, depending on what they find they are attracted to. Those who are wanting to be 100% plant-based, and who love their potatoes, will probably feel great with Dr. McDougall's plan. Those who are not ready to take on 100% plant-based, and who still want to eat a bit of animal food from time to time, but are okay with reducing their consumption of grains and potatoes, then Dr. Fuhrman's approach is probably best for them. I am very happy that there is more than one option as far as eating a primarily whole food plant-based diet.
This was such a pleasure to watch. Two true heroes and personal inspirations for my medical practice and personal life. I Love the authenticity and enthusiasm and the mutual respect. So many dwell on the hairs that are split between these two. So much middle ground to appreciate. Much Love and Gratitude to you both, Fuhrman and McDougall!
Happy the see both gentlemen on good terms. Both are living icons in the field, their books helped me turn my life around. Proud to be passimg them on to other people. Thank you both for your hard work over many many years.
Thank you for this. I am trying to follow the Nutritarian method but I appreciate everyone’s care and work towards helping people get healthy and not ruining the earth.❤️🌼
I absolutely love this interview. Dr Fuhrman explained his views very clearly and I'm glad that he had an opportunity to explain the error in the research. Two great Docs, honesty and information. This is why I love TH-cam. Thanks Dr McD for getting more great education out to the public.
As a practicing Nutritarian who has reversed heat disease at the age of 50 using nuts and seeds in the diet, I want to thank Dr Mcdougall for doing this excellent interview even though there are some areas of disagreement between the approaches. During the last 5 years I have become a student of nutrition and I listen to and benefit from all of the fine doctors in the movement. In the end, it is up to us to assemble the information out there and make the best decisions we can about our health. Dr Fuhrman, Dr Mcdougall and the other doctors have definitely done that for me. Thanks for the decades of passionate work!
By following DR. Fuhrman’s book I was able to choose my calories wisely and decided to get rid of starch such as rice and potatoes and replaced it with nutrients such as nuts, seeds and veggies. My body fat percent has gone down and my muscle has gone up which is so hard to do at once.
Dr. McDougall, you have my respect. I know that it could be easy to kick Dr. Fuhrman when he is down. I applaud you for doing this interview. I genuinely appreciate your leadership in the Whole Food Plant-Based movement. When I look back and see your Pritikin interview, I am so grateful to you. So grateful.
I noticed that my seborehic keratosis improved on a WFPB diet. Never going back. Thank you doctors for your dedication to the cause. BTW I love your personalities and quirkinesses.
@@mowthpeece1 I have them as well. My understanding from a dr. is they aren't connected to cancer. Mine has not gotten any better or changed. I have been eating this way for 11 years! Maybe you are younger and it seems that might make a difference.
Thank you for this respectful, informative discussion. I started my whole food plant based (vegan in my case) journey on a McDougall style diet six years ago and lost 55 lbs in the first year. I've been continually improving and refining my diet even since then as I learn more from both these great doctors and others (Klaper, Greger, Goldhamer, Longo, Esselstyn, Lisle, Campbell and others). My autoimmune disease has improved, and I've lost 15 more lbs. My cholesterol and triglyceride levels normalized, migraines went away, anxiety and depression disappeared (I had been taking Prozac for over 15 years). A big thank you also to Chef AJ and Gustavo.
This is so great dr. McDougall! You are so right and polite with Dr. Furmhan that I wouldn’t! I use to follow him n believe him but no more! Thank you!
Adversaries by definition means "one's opponent in a contest, conflict, or dispute". They both treat each other with respect for each other though they remain passionate and steadfast to their protocols. Fuhrmans protocol is not unlike McDougall's. Fuhrman still promotes starch but not to be the centre of the diet and rather, promotes (GBOMBS) Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries, Seeds/Nuts ie GBOMBS than McDougall. At the end of the day, they promote a WFPB lifestyle and one must find what works best for them. Personally, I incorporate everything as well as Dean Ornish's holistic approach 😊
@@annan3904 Me too. IMO, each person must find their own path. These two men offer trails to follow toward an individual discovery that gives optimal health.
I eat g bombs and a table spoon flax seed and 2 half walnuts everyday the only supplements b12, the rest is starch - I think its a good way to combine mcdoughal and Fuhrman diets maybe I will get tested dha in future
Thank you, Dr McDougall for being so courteous and such a good listener. Letting Dr. Fuhrman speak so much. I'm a huge fan of his. I think that your areas of disagreement are quite small indeed. I get a sincere feeling from you both. And you both are helping tons of people to get healthy. Thanks; great interview!! I am also interested in things like the potato diet;, so i will check out your videos more.
I am so happy that these two Drs are talking and there is no viciousness between them, it was so upsetting and confusing when some people are trying to discredit Dr Fuhrman. I think both Dr Mcdougall have great advice for everyone who wants to adopt a healthy diet! Personally I am finding it almost impossible to cut out oil completely but that advice is still sound even if I find it hard to follow.
All politicians should be required to watch this video as an example of how to debate like gentlemen (and ladies). In a culture where people scream down their opponents, this is refreshing. Given Dr. Fuhrman's recent troubles, the graciousness of Dr. McDougall is heartwarming. Not to mention this is an important discussion for those of us reading the various authors and are curious about the differences.
I have enormous respect for both of these men. I think they are both giving fantastic dietary advice. I give Dr. Fuhrman a lot of credit for doing an interview with someone who he knows, has frequently disagreed with him.
As a family doctor in Missouri, I admire both of these practitioners of the art and science of clinical nutritional medicine, lifestyle or plants based diets, pioneering doctors, for their honesty and open discussions ! I started my diet after I ran into the TH-cam videos from Dr McDougall about a month ago and I am very optimistic about the direction of my overall health. But I have since looked in to many of the others including Dr Ornish and Dr Esselstyn and currently believe that all of these great doctors have collectively contributed to this field for the betterment of the health of large number of people worldwide. The message needs to go out widely and firmly. Best to remember it is an art of medicine as much as it is a science. Different Gurus have different methods. My grandfather (AJC) lived to be hundred and one back in Bangladeshi rural area and passed away in 1971. He lived a very simple life. Bengal had suffered famine during the British colonial times. He had Ayurvedic doctors who came to visit with him and remember hearing them talk about diets ( “pottho ”) more important than the potions (“ Ayurvedic medicine made of herbs”) . His food was mainly rice lentils beans vegetables light meals. He walked to all of the neighbors at least twice a day. He never saw a medical doctor of course he never had any blood test never had chest X-rays or EKG ! He died of pneumonia after a short illness. Diabetes and Hypertension is rampant in my family now. We need to get back to simple plants based diets with no oils no animal products in any form. Appreciate equally both of your variations in opinions. Regards.
You eliminate two major poisons in peoples diets, animal products and vegetable oils, and most people will be successful. Whole foods starches with lots of vegetables and beans, you can’t go wrong. I stick with flax seeds with oats in the morning because nuts are just too tasty. When both diets are done correctly they really don’t look that much different.

Dr. Fuhrman is a genius with a true spirit of helping people, and a sensible approach to a workable, delicious life-time eating plan. He also has the patience of a Buddha answering your rather antagonistic questions.
Dr. John McDougall & Dr. Fuhrman have both blessed my life! Thank-you Dr. McDougall for taking the courageous decision to interview Dr. Fuhrman! As a nurse I can say that you both are heros!

@Sherwin The Great how did he lie?
Right but you'll need to buy his supplements to reach 100? Nah...in Okinawa they were eating a diet of basically sweet potatoes.
Good job! I just started the McDougall diet myself. I'm curious to see how it will go.

The only problem with what you said is that Fuhrman didn't make a mistake - he downright lied to sell his products.
That’s a great quote!

Best.

Dr. McDougall also has some good info despite selling his retreats. You are not required to go to those either.

I agree!
I totally agree also. I just wish that the doctors here in the UK preached the same way of thinking as these two brilliant doctors.
The Indian Warrior - American docs are no better. Sometimes we have to take things into our own hands- with knowledge gained from doctors and researchers who teach the truth.
Good points.
This discussions are good, we need them. We need disagreement ,without we would not make process.
But we should it not see as a fundamental disagreement.

How did you combine both? One is starch based, no oil, very little whole plant fat sources, and other is non-starchy veggies, green leafies, legumes, and more generous amounts of fatty plant foods like avocado and nuts.

It’s because of their own dogma interacting with their egos. This stuff is far from black and white.
The worst thing with the Vegsource travesty is how Jeff commits all the sins he complains about from others. He mis-characterized what Dr. Greger said on multiple occasions (still no apology that I have seen) and he also is inept at reading and interpreting studies. I have unsubscribed from his channel and no longer view his videos.
I actually unsubscribed from veg source because of this.

Thank you Dr. McDougall for doing this respectful and professional interview. I really think that the attacks on Dr. Fuhrman have been unwarranted. Jeff Nelson is harming the reputation of plant-based diet as well as himself by what he's doing.
How? Have you watched Nelson's videos? He's a brilliant investigative journalist.
Fuhrman 💪
I laughed at what Dr. McDougall has been described as ( 01:25 )
I’d describe both of them as:
-very intelligent people who are generous to share their great knowledge
-certainly not rude, just not lulling people to sleep telling them lies to comfort their unhealthy lifesytle choices
-brilliant story tellers during their speeches without sugarcoating the truth
-they're not angry, probably just really fed up with and tired by people still questioning the vegan lifestyle & evidence

Nutritional research is needed more than ever, and thankfully more and more funding is sent in that direction :)
As for the controversy with the fat, the type of fat matters and they are obviously not all created equally.

I'm glad I watched this. It has cleared up so many wrong impressions, which makes me very happy. Dr. M, you are a peacemaker. Thank you so much.
Dr. Fuhrman is awesome!! So intelligent and dedicated!!
This is very nice of you Dr John McDougall for giving Dr Fuhrman a chance to also explain his side.
Dr Fuhrman was a CLASS ACT in this interview. Thank you Dr Fuhrman for all you do to help me regain my health and reverse obesity. 💗
I noticed that my seborehic keratosis improved on a WFPB diet. Never going back. Thank you doctors for your dedication to the cause. BTW I love your personalities and quirkinesses.
Mine too! Less growth factors... That should be a sign of less cancer potential too (I hope).
@@mowthpeece1 I have them as well. My understanding from a dr. is they aren't connected to cancer. Mine has not gotten any better or changed. I have been eating this way for 11 years! Maybe you are younger and it seems that might make a difference.
Thank you both for speaking truths, even if they are hard. Education is the key. God bless you both.
What a good interview - I think you are both great! Thx and please go on.
Thanks for having him on! Great interview!😊
You are both highly respected doctors in my view. Love listening to you both.
This is so great dr. McDougall! You are so right and polite with Dr. Furmhan that I wouldn’t! I use to follow him n believe him but no more! Thank you!
After listening to this n hearing Dr McDougall past away so young at 77 I now will continue to follow Dr Fuhrman
@@j-n-y I like Dr Fuhrman too as much as I liked Dr McDougall
both diets are completely unnatural. McDougalls family wont release cause of death or medical records. Wonder why
Refreshing to see a classy and respectful conversation between adversaries.
They would need to spend a bit more time together to figure out fully the others point of view..excellent start!🌽🍠🥗🥦🥔
Why should they be adversaries? It is silly and unproductive
This interview speaks so much to Dr. John McDougall character. He is the most genuine amazing person ❤
Absolutely.
Anthony Nales I don’t know. I don’t obsess. I eat as much healthy fats as I want and I am fine. I don’t overeat anything though
Anthony Nales excellent assessment 🍠🥦🥗🥕🥔
Thank you so much for interviewing Dr Fuhrman.
Lovly intervies. Both great persons! Thanks to both! I read their books, cook his healthy diet. Beautiful to see doctors, great doctors!
Corrected comment of patodefuego...Hope you don't mind.."Both great persons! Thanks to both! I read their books, cook his healthy diet. Beautiful to see doctors, great doctors! "
@@therandeydenyah Thanke you!
Dr. Fuhrman is a genius with a true spirit of helping people, and a sensible approach to a workable, delicious life-time eating plan. He also has the patience of a Buddha answering your rather antagonistic questions.
