Such passionate hard working selfless doctors. I had hay fever, asthma diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, arthritis I was tired all the time and just felt like crap.Three years ago I went on the McDougall diet. Now I have oatmeal with blueberries for breakfast, potatoes with sauerkraut and beets for lunch and spaghetti for dinner. I went from 215 pounds to 165. It took 2 years for my digestion to become normal but was worth the wait. I watch videos) by these two pioneers in the Whole food plant based food movement ) to stay Motivated. IT'S THE FOOD, IT'S THE FOOD, IT'S THE FOOD!!! WE LOVE YOU JOHN MCDOUGALL AND MICHAEL KLAPER YOU ARE AWESOME!

WFPB for nine years and how did I not know about this sooner??? I'm forever grateful and wish more people were. I have a friend who is obese, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Type II Diabetes and a smoker........ All he has to say is "we're going to die anyway, eat what we want." I am going to die..... someday, but I don't want to die SICK. I'll be 70 in 8 days and I'll be running my first marathon this year! No, sickness is not for me. I'll have more potatoes please........ 5 years WFPB here. I think a big part that got me in trouble is the moderation part. I couldn't do it and that was the case as a child, all the way to age 48. I found what worked. I'm just thankful I saw the light eventually, anyways! :-)

@@sandray7609 - My older sister is of normal weight and exercises. Sadly, she is a retired nurse who swears she needs her "daily dose of dairy" to build strong bones! My two younger sisters are "fat, sick and nearly dead." They swear I got the "good genes" in the family. I'm forever floored by the willful ignorance of others. @@RiDankulous - Hi Joe ~ I love knowing I can eat enormous sums of food provided it's on the lower of the food density scale. My salads are huge and I proudly eat them. People tell me how unhealthy potatoes are. When I inform them I eat 1-1.5 pounds of potatoes a day, they are amazed. My problem is I eat too fast.......

@@Janet_Price Everyone in my family is taking pills and suffers from chronic diseases - I try to show them the way, but they look at me like I'm crazy. When I see extended family they always ask how I stay so trim and look like I never age...it's definitely the closest thing to the fountain of youth! I finally figured it out at age 50, I wish I started sooner. Like Dr McDougall, I started eating this way for health, then the planet and the animals. I will never go back. I just wish everyone else would wake up!!

I have been whole food-plant(WFPB) based for 5 years now, and I feel very good. I am on the Mcdougall program and have weight and cholesterol levels that are ideal, as well as a healthy heart rate and a slightly high blood pressure, although I am working on that by trying to stay with regular walking. All those characteristics where much worse previously, but they had been changed to healthy, also coming off blood pressure medication with doctor supervision.
My heart rate is below 70 today =D. I have been walking regularly for a few weeks now. Not sure on blood pressure which I have to check, but I'm not worried very much about it. I am very confident being strict WFPB.

“Without honor in my own home.” I live that sad nightmare every day. Over 53 years of trying to get my family to listen. It’s so depressing to watch the disease processes in each of them, particularly my husband who still refuses to watch a single video or read a single article or book. He says he will never give up meat and dairy. Our calendar is crammed with medical appointments and our budget has been devastated by the expenses. Because of his medical problems we have had no sex life in over 30 years but he would rather take lots of medications than change his diet. Among other ailments he already has I see prostate and colon cancer and Alzheimer’s on the horizon. Worst of all, he has convinced our children and grandchildren that I’m wrong about the values of a plant based diet. At the age of 70 I am seriously considering divorce.

Although Americans and their lifestyle is massively imposed in our countries towards their imperialist view of the world, if we wait till the most conservative government in the world to change their guidelines towards health and medicine we will need to wait for another century till the other countries start to follow it.

With respect to diatery problems, we have to increase awarenes of INTEGRITY AND CONGRUENCY. Teology is failing because is not applicable. Truth is truth only if can be pruved. We do not need to know that Mother Mary was virgin. It is enough that Jesus was borne.❤
It is the truth that we have to focus on the plant food:
    1. BUT IT must be organically treated, pesticides are 100% carcenogenic, and bio toxic for us and insects who polenate plants.
    2. It is such NAIVITE to accept that a metan and CO2 coming from animals; It is only 10%.
Baisic science knows 200 big REASONS coming from the oceans and lack of trees; dirty oil industry....chem- trails blocking sunshine> we do not have blue 🔵 sky, water is poluted and toxicly injected; drastic weather manipulations; mistreatment of farmers $ and GMO

From what I understand, it's whole plant food carbs that are very healthy. You can always have your doctor watch what you do closely and you can do a slower switchover to the foods. It's the bad carbs, like those with simple sugars and ones that have oil or are heavily processed, that gets people in trouble.

I love these doctors! I have a question, though. Why when I start a whole food plant based diet, do I gain weight if I don't watch my portions? I always hear, we can eat as much as we want to be satisfied, but that doesn't work for me. I have to eat a small amount of oatmeal, rice, potatoes or pasta with veggies and a couple pieces of fruit a day. I follow the diet, without added oils, avocado, nuts or seeds. When I gain weight, when I'm trying to lose weight, then I get discouraged and won't stick with it, for this reason. Plus, I'm hungry, because I can't eat enough to be satisfied.

So, it's upsetting to me, when they say, eat as much as you want, until satisfied. Because, it doesn't work for me. It feels like a diet, not a lifestyle. So, I don't understand why I can't eat a little more, so I'm not so hungry.

    • @dianadesilva4877
      @dianadesilva4877 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@jinshark9078 it would be too soon to tell. Over a year ago, I had surgery for bowel obstruction, so I was put on a low fiber diet. Before going low fiber, I was fit & slim. After eating unhealthy low fiber foods, I gained weight quickly. Now, I'm allowed to eat my healthy plant-based diet, again. After only a week, I gained weight, so I got discouraged. I am an avid runner, and I don't need added weight on my small frame, but I also know that I need better nutrition for performance, than the crab I've been eating. I'm wondering, if my body just needs awhile to adjust back to the plant-based meals again, and then normalize. But, like I said, I always have had to control my portions.

Incentivized medicine keeps their pockets full. Why would they want to give that up ?? I believe if docs really cared they would spread the truth

Why do both men look and sound so frail and weak? Dr. McDougall died (sudden death) on 6/22/24. My condolences to Mary, the rest of his family, close friends, and the McD team. I would like to know the cause of his death. Maybe, the family will reveal this after the grieving period. 🙏🏻 I am now questioning the whole WFPB diet I have been eating over a decade now.

Lost me at the political speak. Agree with the plants, but celebrities and politicians are NO idols to be aped.

You can tell a vegan just by looking at them? I’m sure you’ve met plenty.

I've been WFPB-Vegan for over a dozen years and most of my friends don't know. I don't mention it and it doesn't come up. It's not like we go around advertising it anymore than you go around advertising what kind of diet you might eat.

@@g.e.boroush5176 The rub is I am plant based so that should increase my odds, except I think all plant based people are rejected from society. I never had a friend that wasn't hungry at some point in time.

I'd caution John, that you and Michael are not climate scientists. In the related section of this interview, it's obvious that you both are wading into an area far outside your respective scopes of expertise. If your goal is to advance a food-climate-nexus advocacy, bring on on expert in that field.
Michael's overly enthusiastic book recommendation ("Food Is Climate") diminishes his credibility and consequently (for those of us who've actually read it) he comes off as someone who has suffered temporary amnesia of basic critical thinking skills and succumbed to nothing more than pat confirmation bias. For those interested, read the book and you'll see what I mean.
I also don't find that using your grandchildren to justify your new role is particularly compelling. Quite the contrary.
