    A high end motherboard and DDR3 is key to unleash the x5470's true potential

    I run a x5470 in 790i mobo at 4.25ghz and it does well. They overclock like a beast. Ive been stable at 4.75ghz but even with water cooling it gets hot!! It does bottleneck my gtx 970s in SLI, but my fps is plenty high enough. I just don't see the need to upgrade for the short term with games becoming less and less CPU bound

    I buy X5470 for 775 mobo it was 2014 last 5 years using it at @4.00ghz 1.25vcore with no issue still using
    Cinebench R15 score single core 116 cpu score 440 for clear compare ryzen 1200 4C/4T cpu single core score 130 cpu score 482.
    if you already have 775 socket mobo if you are on budget go for xeon. But dont expect crazy performance its a 11 years old cpu

    I disagree. You have to take that it's not the CPU that's solely worth the price but the combination with the mobo, remember the x5470 works in far older and cheaper mobos that can practically be scavenged from anywhere unlike the other two. Therefore, ultimately you have much more bang for your buck buying a Xeon, as overall it's significantly cheaper than the other two.

    The "upgradability" argument (or lack thereof) against the X5470 is flawed in that to upgrade to the i7 3770 (as the video suggests) would cost ~$70 (eBay) which would not make sense in terms of cost. Anybody choosing to build LGA 771/775 or Sandy/Ivy Bridge today would be upgrading to another platform (say in one or two years' time) if cost is the primary consideration.

    Already had my old 790i ultra sli collecting dust in the closet. P10 bios microcode update, ballistix tactical tracer 1600mhz 2x8gb, X5492 at 1883mhz fsb = 4.001ghz. It’s just a “what can this run in 2019?” toy. Delid/liquid metal. Still has my original zalman 9500S on it. It’s fun, but now I remember how HOT the nforce chipsets were.

    I bought an X5472 because I got given a Asus P5KC and thought I'd have a lil bit of fun with it and see performance of it, unsure of the differences between the x5470 and x5472 tho, I guess I'll have to look into that, its going to be paired with an RX 460 2gb sadly because thats the best gpu I have to hand.

    Hello. I have Dell Foxconn L S-36 motherboard and Intel Xeon 5150 2.66GHz. I alredy bought Intel Xeon X5470 3.33GHz but mine is LGA 771. that was stupid
    of course you should only by an X5470 when you already have a compatible Lga775 board.
    and then you go on comparing CPUs from different generations, of course you should buy newer board if you can afford it.
    anyway, you got any idea how much faster X5470 is than Core2Duo E8500? I want to replace it on my mum's old PC.

    There's no great value when ddr3 and I5 mobos more expensive than the old hardware. It's a great alternative to buying newer used hardware. You can buy ddr2 800 in bulk for dirt compared to ddr3 at 3x the cost.

  • @The_Mess85
    @The_Mess85 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lawl.
    I've been running a e5440 on 8GB DDR2 - with an RX 570 it surprisingly plays quite a few resource intensive games. However, if I had a socket 775 that can use DDR3, which do exist and that you should have used here, would lead to much better performance. As the jump from DDR2 to DDR3 does help it seems, especially in games like Satisfactory that can easily chew through 8GB of memory.
    Also, prices that low for those CPU's is a fluffing pipe dream outside of the US/ordering from China.
