How To Tell If Your Feet are Pronated Or Supinated.

  • If you’ve never considered how your feet and ankles are positioned throughout your daily life today is the day! Do your feet roll inward (pronation) or outward (supination)? Do you even pay attention?

    Draw a line on the back of your ankle, like in the video. Set up a camera behind you- prop it up on a water bottle, a book, anything! Record yourself. Walk around and then stand facing away from the camera. Just stand in your normal position, don't give any thought to it!
    Another way to test this is to grab a pair of shoes that you wear a lot and look at the pattern of wear on the shoe. ⁣Where is the primary wear on the shoe?

    If you tend to roll inward (pronate), you will see more wear on the inside of your shoe’s soles, you may be more likely to have flat feet, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, stress fractures, and runner’s knee. If you roll outward (supination) you are in the minority, as overpronation is most common. You may be more likely to have high arches tight Achilles, and IT band syndrome. ⁣
    Everyone will pronate or supinate to some degree. Few people will be perfectly balanced, but the idea is to limit the degree of pronation or supination. If you are a runner or an athlete think about the amount of repetitive impact being placed on the feet and ankles. It’s worth figuring out how yours line up and working to improve them, especially if you struggle with pain or injuries! ⁣ ⁣
    Send this video to your runner friends, or your friends always complaining about their feet hurting.

    It's common to pronate if you have a low arch of flat foot, and supinate if you have a high arch. If you pronate you just need a shoe with arch support (yes, it is absolutely worth the money. BUY GOOD SHOES). If you supinate, you DO NOT need arch support, it will push your foot out farther, get a neutral shoe with cushion, no arch support.

    I have a right foot supinated and left foot pronated I had a standing x-ray done and every bone in my leg is equal in length except my right femur is shorter so it's very common for the shorter legs foot to supinate to elongate itself and make the right leg longer. In my situation it's also common then for the longer leg to pronate and roll into shorten itself, it's all my body trying to balance itself out so sometimes when you have been born with this structural imbalance sometimes or if it's just physical from injury or scar tissue build up and or have someone look at your mechanics when running or biking. Sometimes looking at your SI joints and making sure there's no muscle imbalance causing your feet to try to compensate or like I have been born with a structural imbalance with a shorter femur bone 12mm. Just food for thought

      Hey there! After one year of your comment, how much of that could you fix so far? I’m working on that issue at the moment ! Not sure if I was born with it or if it’s just an imbalance but it really does impact my well-being !

    • @perseverance9888
      @perseverance9888 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@janinapradelt1646 I'm still super active. I've always been that way but I definitely still haven't perfected running , biking sometimes still have some pain but 70 to 80 % better. It's a lot of trial and error because different insoles fit different and different shoes because of the tilt for arch support in the shoe itself so even when I put in my custom orthotics I still have to adjust with some lateral and medial wedges sometimes in the front or back underneath my custom orthotics. On the right shoe with the shorter leg I have full length insole lift made of cork that I put under my custom orthotics.

      You just need arch support in your shoes. Get in a good supportive running shoe. Asics Gel Kayano, Brooks Glycerin GTS or Adrenaline GTS, Hokas Gaviota or Arahi .... theres a ton out there and its very common. Your doctor is crazy if they think theres nothing that can be done to help you

      Some horrible recommendations above.. a shoe is a bandaid and not a fix. Check your hips/glutes, maybe they are pulling your knees in and then causing pronation.

    So pronation is raised arch, eversion, more weight distributed through the hallux and medial aspect of the foot, knee turned inwards and maybe some knee valgus? Would there also be a tendency for the feet to point inwards?

    I used to walk supinated. I have plantar fasciitis. I have since realized about the supination, and start to fix my walk to land the foot properly. I went to podiatrist before this and he suggested I use Birkenstock sandals which have helped with the pain immensely. However, as long as I wear the Birkenstocks there was no pain but without them pain would be bad.
    I felt like using those was not strengthening my arch and instead simply supporting the arch to not feel any pain.
    I instead wanted to strengthen my arc. I am thinking I will use barefoot sandals without arch support and walk carefully and consciously to land my foot properly. Is this a good strategy?
