Damn, can't find the teacher I'm looking for but he has a student named Keyshawn who tries to set him up in the bathroom and Mase who gets his radio he stole thrown out of the window...
My favorite movie teachers: Melvin B. Tolson: Great Debators Erin Gruwell: Freedom Writers John Keating: Dead Poets Society Luanne Johnson: Dangerous Minds Jennifer Honey: Matilda Dewey Finn: School of Rock
As a huge Jack Black fan,I am forever in love with the role of Dewey Finn. I think it was one of his best roles ever. Along with Bernie from Bernie. I think he's just one of those GREAT actors that really pick terrible movies. It's really sad because I do believe he's incredibly talented. And after seeing Bernie,I think he showed his true ability & how he is able to adapt to almost any character. I mean. Jack Black as a very spiritual, possibly gay, accidentally murderous, funeral director. Think about that. I had no idea he had a performance like that in him.
Educations for teachers should not focus on models but rather on how to become like their most treasured teacher or how to become a teachers students will remember as a positively influential to their lives. These movies show (and the real life stories several were taken from) that it's possible.
As someone who formerly aspired to become a teacher, it's amazing how Hollywood gives us all of these amazing examples of great teachers (majority of which did not teach in a traditional way) yet the US government seems to have it completely backwards and discourages unorthodox teaching methods unless the teacher wants to risk losing pay or even their job. Before any of you hop onto the idea that "teachers don't do it for the money" yes they don't BUT they still need to support themselves and wouldn't it be nice to not have to work a 2nd job so that way you have more time and energy to dedicate towards teaching (which already demands up to 80 hours a week)?
My teacher became a teacher because of dead poets society. He showed us the movie on the last day of school. The crazy thing is on the first day of class he made us rip out the first page of our science text books I didnt understand why until I watched the movie. He was truly the greatest teacher I ever had.
They have a 1 pick per movie/franchise rule with these sorts of things, and they already had McGonagall. I totally agree that Lupin was super awesome kickass, but still not quite as super awesome kickass as McGonagall.
Bruno56 literally nobody asked. If you don’t like something just move on, bro. Ain’t no reason to get up in arms with someone who ain’t even ask for you to 😂
Jaime Escalante should have been number 1. He's a real person! He did amazing things, in real life! Keating is great, no doubt, but Escalante's inspiring story of real teacher heroism should have put him at number 1. Also, no mention of Morgan Freeman's Principal Joe Clark from Lean On Me, not even an honorable mention?
I think Katherine Watson from Mona Lisa smile should be on the list, she was a big and a good influence on the students as a teacher as well as a character, she open a lot of minds specially in a conservative time
Well McGonnagall made this list though far too low, but Dumbledore didn't even receive a mention. They're are a few other teachers I can think of that didn't get mentioned either. Hmmm ah well, they're learning, slowly, but they are learning. In a few more years maybe they'll be able to get a list like this right.
David Satya I don't think many would agree with us there. In a list of most competent teachers I would rank him highly, but this was a list of good teachers. Ones the yanks would like as their teacher. Snape, well, no one wants him as a teacher for his people skills but for his teaching ability certainly. You know his students wouldn't dare play up.
Kieran O'Connor Really? All the teachers in Harry Potter are horrible and don't deserve to be on this list. Dumbledore condones bullying and child abuse, as does literally every other teacher in the school. Snape is one of the worst bullies in the entire series. I would consider any teacher who slapped Draco Malfoy down at least once in the entire series. Snape's only redeeming act in the entire book/movie series was killing Dumbledore, who happens to be a larger villain than Voldemort could ever be.
I dont think he made the list because while he did inspire the events of the movie he didnt really do anything teacher like after that part at the beginning. He was only really a teacher for the plot. All the same, its Kevin Spacey. He totally should have gotten at least an honourable mention.
You mean, Mr. Weeny, lol? Sorry, just kidding about that part. I got it from one of the episodes from Boy Meets World, Notorious. It was real funny. But anyway, Mr. Feeny was a well-known fictional teacher, even though he might not be a movie teacher. He calls everyone 'Mr. Matthews', 'Mr. Hunter', 'Miss Lawrence' etc. What a great guy.
Denzel Washington, Remember the Titans. Don't remember exactly how he is related to the actual school system (except that he is helping the kids with their homework and get them into college), but he is definitely a great teacher in the true sense of the word. He saves those young boys, teaches them respect and love - and turns them into men they can be proud of. That movie has been a true inspiration for me my entire life
They said at the beginning of the video that it applies to all school faculty and that principals could be included. Morgan Freeman as Joe Clark is a GLARING omission! I mean seriously! The lady from Harry Potter made the list and not Morgan Freeman in Lean On Me didn't? Who made this list?? They should be reassigned to cleaning toilets!
Didn't you understand Watchmojo's logic? If it isn't american, is foreign (Even if they are canadian). And foreign movies, does never fucking count unless they were classics old as fuck that they should NEVER pass over.

I hoped against hope that Mark Thackery ("To Sir, With Love") would at least make Honorable Mention...yet, he was #2!!! Thank you! I've always loved that movie, and the song was my very first favorite song, when I was about 3.
I wasn't surprised John Keating from Dead Poets Society made it to first place, the movie was great and Robin Williams played the role amazingly. may he rest in peace.
Nothing feels better than snap calling what's gonna be #1 before you click on the video. I watch these with my fiancee all the time and it always makes me smile to her reaction when I'm correct. That being said dead poets is and will always be in a league of its own. RIP Robin Williams

Bayougirl78 I agree with you. Why the heck is one of the best movies about teaching music number 10. One of the best portaits of the life of a musicteacher I ever seen. I know. I recognized so much from my own life as a musicteacher. Always having to defend it from downcuts from people who dont understand its importance.

What always aggravated me was the majority of these type of films involve a white teacher going into a black or Hispanic school and teaching them chess, the violin, ballroom dancing and this somehow gets to the kids. It's almost a stereotype of the white man's burden. Love to see a black female teacher go into a classroom with some tough white kids and show them about Shakespeare.
alg11297 I would really like to see a modern movie about that. sure (the ones on this list are so old, those clothes ugh). For me though the kids (or the teachers) race has no meaning for me, it's just a good hearted teacher getting through to some rough kids. I haven't seen many movies like this, but at least a few teachers on this list were black too, and some of those rough kids were clearly white. It's not a white man's burden, it's a good person's burden. =)
alg11297 that's why stand and deliver (latino teacher teaches latino kids) and to sir with love (black teacher teaches poor white kids) are such a breath of fresh air
my seventh grade teacher was mr keating in every aspect. he didn't teach by the books, one of his quotes were" as people and students, we have to be free thinkers and writers in order to be independent" i still use that quote in my everyday life.
toadmfan2013 If you couldn't handle his teaching style. People who strive for perfection (being the best) cannot have a teacher like him since he will always find a problem. Sometimes the meanest most aggressive teachers tend to be the best spoken of by students after a certain point in their life.
I love this list, brings back memories. I loved Matilda and School of Rock, and now I'm going to watch some of the other movies on this list to relive the past.
Edward James Olmos is a Legend, i'm glad he was included in this list! BSG Admiral Adama :) was another of his legendary roles. We'll just have to wait and see how far he can take his character in Marvel Agents of Shield.
SuperGamingUltima Yeah she was totally one of my first celebrity crushes when I was a teenager and Mean Girls/Freaky Friday came out. What a train wreck that turned out to be in the years to come >.
You missed Denzel Washington's Coach Herman Boone from Remember the Titans. Actually for that matter Will Patton's Coach Bill Yoast was pretty epic too.
Daenerys Targaryen Or what about Storm Troopers? They taught us the *completely logical* lesson that just because you wear Body Armour from head to toe, doesn't mean you can avoid getting the snot beaten out of you by little teddy bears with stones and bits of wood!
I'm not gonna lie. Terence Fletcher was a great teacher with high expectations who pushed his students. But Fletcher made his students lives a living hell up to the point where they felt depressed, anxious, and suicidal.
That is super funny because the first teacher that I thought about was Glenn Holland. I love that movie :) Never seen Stand and Delivery so wasn't prepared to see Lou Diamond Phillips in the background lol
OMG, you actually put Philosophers instead of Sorcerers :D But any of the teachers of Hogwarts could be counted, except for Quirrel, Lockhart, Umbridge and the Carrows Can you do a list of father-like figures? And if Geoff from Byker Grove isn't on, i'm going to be pissed!
And outside-the-box mention would've been Anne Sullivan (Anne Bancroft), the young teacher who helped the deaf/blind/mute Helen Keller (Patty Duke) to communicate in THE MIRACLE WORKER. Granted, she didn't have a whole classroom, but she nevertheless had her hands full with the wild and boisterous Helen. Also, Helen claled her 'Teacher.'
Today I watched The Freedom Writers, it's so good. Emotional, strong and realistic (because it's based on a real class)
Erin Gruwell is good. I worked with her. Her key is to show respect for students even when they don't deserve it.

Still have a hard time believing that Robin Williams is gone ;(
SandDigger
That's a good sign. It would be even worse if he was forgotten immediately after his death.
Right there with you dude, its so sad to think of.
Dead poets society introduced me to him its a shame hes gone he was a great actor
***** That would be sad, yeah...but I think, that's impossible.
Same here. I still get misty-eyed thinking about it sometimes....
My favorite movie teachers:
Melvin B. Tolson: Great Debators
Erin Gruwell: Freedom Writers
John Keating: Dead Poets Society
Luanne Johnson: Dangerous Minds
Jennifer Honey: Matilda
Dewey Finn: School of Rock
Watch Big Brother starring Donnie Yen as the ex-military teacher.
As a huge Jack Black fan,I am forever in love with the role of Dewey Finn. I think it was one of his best roles ever. Along with Bernie from Bernie. His decision to make an independent film was pretty daring
School of Rock is awesome, I have to agree.
And he was great in Nacho Libre
Diego Rascon yeah he was! Underrated movie. Very immature, but also joyous & just a really fun movie.
Did you tell em they were thee lords cheeps Ra Tha Entertainer™

Henry Barthes from 'Detachment'
So happy you didn't forget Miss Honey :))
I would love for her to be my teacher
Lily Moss-yerg same!
To Sir with Love made me become a teacher and the Dead Poets Society was one of the movies that cemented my love for Robin Williams.
School of Rock was such a good, wholesome movie.
Bruno56 literally nobody asked. If you don’t like something just move on, bro. Ain’t no reason to get up in arms with someone who ain’t even ask for you to 😂
Bruno56 my god your life must suck.
Bruno56 65 and bitching about some shit that don’t matter in the slightest 😂😂😂😂😂
Bruno56 dude this is sad now. You’re in your sixties bitching to a girl in her twenties about some shit you can legit ignore. Get a hobby.
Jaime Escalante should have been number 1. He's a real person! He did amazing things, in real life! Keating is great, no doubt, but Escalante's inspiring story of real teacher heroism should have put him at number 1.

Kevin Spacey's character from Pay It Forward?
Oh yeeeah, that was a really good one!
Great character, shit movie
Agreed!! I was really waiting for that one.
Surprised not to see him, not even as an "honorable mention"...but I guess dating one of his students' mothers isn't exactly "inspiring"...?
I dont think he made the list because while he did inspire the events of the movie he didnt really do anything teacher like after that part at the beginning. He was only really a teacher for the plot. All the same, its Kevin Spacey. He totally should have gotten at least an honourable mention.
George Feeny (Mr. Feeny) from Boy Meets World. Although he wasn't a *movie* teacher.
Agreed, There will never ever another teacher like him!
Feeeeneyy!!!❤❤❤
I know it's a TV show but Mr. Feeny from Boy Meets World is one of the best fictional teachers ever.

What about Lean on Me (1989) that stars Morgan Freeman as Joe Clark????????
That one deserves to be on the list.
He wasn't a teacher
wesleyv1 Oh wait, you're right.
Mcgonigal was a teacher joe was not and they said they could be considered but obviously non of them were
wesleyv1 And yet certainly should have been number one.
I was happy to see To Sir With Love on this list.
you forgot to mention Monsieur Mathieu from the movie "Les Choristes"
Good one
Yes!
That is exactly what I thought. Love that movie!
Yeah, you're right
Didn't you understand Watchmojo's logic? If it isn't american, is foreign (Even if they are canadian). And foreign movies, does never fucking count unless they were classics old as fuck that they should NEVER pass over.
Good list, but no Joe Louis Clark from Lean on Me?
How about arnold Schwarzenegger
"Put the cookie down"
Travis Irion That’s from Jingle All The Way

Kevin James? "Here Comes the Boom," not a big fan of him but he physically helped his students and monetarily helped his students.
at least an honorable.
lil2shady99 I would nominate the music teacher from that movie instead. That guy was a fantastic teacher.
lil2shady99 I loved that movie. Should have at least had an honorable mention.
When I saw the #1 teacher on the list walk into the classroom, I held back my tears.
I hoped against hope that Mark Thackery ("To Sir, With Love") would at least make Honorable Mention...yet, he was #2!!! Thank you! I've always loved that movie, and the song was my very first favorite song, when I was about 3.

Mona Lisa Smile with Julia Roberts is a good move to be included in the list
Yes, I was wondering the same thing.
A very underrated film. JR was perfect, and so were her pupils.🍀
Nothing feels better than snap calling what's gonna be #1 before you click on the video. I watch these with my fiancee all the time and it always makes me smile to her reaction when I'm correct.
That being said dead poets is and will always be in a league of its own.
RIP Robin Williams
No miss Riley from October Sky? She was the teacher I always wished to have in my life...
"The Emperors Club" is one I watch before every school year starts.
When Jack Black was still decent. RIP jack black
He's not dead

First, thats a great list especially your number one pick.
BUT, there are a lot of great teachers out there that are not on this list like:
Ron Clark - The Ron Clark Story
Eugene Simonet - Pay It Forward
Mr. Simon - That's What I Am
Stacey Bess - Beyond the black board

D.P.S and their remarkable teacher John keating is so legendary. Nice one mojo
WatchMojo.com Oh my god I was soo scared DPS's Mr. Keating wasn't gonna be on the list. I love this list!!!
forgot coach carter
wheres mr young
Any movie that Robin Williams did was fantastic. He always knew how to put himself in the role that he was playing. RIP Robin. We miss you.
The teacher (sadly forgot her name) from precious? Not even a mention?
I love Mr. Hollands Opus....I still get goosebumps and tears at the end when all of his former students start playing his music
Bayougirl78 I agree with you. Why the heck is one of the best movies about teaching music number 10. One of the best portaits of the life of a musicteacher I ever seen. I know. "To Sir With Love"🍀
my seventh grade teacher was mr keating in every aspect. he didn't teach by the books, one of his quotes were" as people and students, we have to be free thinkers and writers in order to be independent" i still use that quote in my everyday life.
Oh Captain, my Captain.
Thank you for remembering Ms Honey!😘
Henry Barthes in Detachment deserved at least an honorable mention.
I would kill to have Miss Honey as a teacher! 😍😄
I've never seen Goodbye, Mr Chips, but I got so choked up at that clip.
Fletcher was a good character but NOT a good teacher. He causes anxiety and suicide.
toadmfan2013 If you couldn't handle his teaching style. People who strive for perfection (being the best) cannot have a teacher like him since he will always find a problem. Sometimes the meanest most aggressive teachers tend to be the best spoken of by students after a certain point in their life.
At least he got them to play well though.
You're not one of those single tear people are you?
Billy Thompson I'M UPSET!
toadmfan2013 No a weak mental state causes suicide, you're probably one of those that blame video games for school shootings as well?
So happy that Mr. Keating was #1!!!! Love that movie so much and was going to be so surprised if he wasn't in the top 10!
Guy from detachment?? He was amazing
I love this list, brings back memories. I loved Matilda and School of Rock, and now I'm going to watch some of the other movies on this list to relive the past.
paul rudd perks of being a wallflower
I was expecting William Hundert (Kevin Kline) from "The Emperor's Club" to show up on the list.
Yeah, I loved Kevin Kline in that movie!
Robin Williams all the way
Can't remember his name but the teacher from 21 should be up there. Turning your student into a professional gambler. What a teacher!
Only reason I clicked this was to see if Keating was #1
+Miles Brown Same.
Me too
I think Ron Clark ('The Ron Clark Story') should have been on the list! Matthew Perry did amazing at that role. Or Eugene Simonet in 'Pay it forward'.
9:45 "what are those" 😂
Edward James Olmos is a Legend, i'm glad he was included in this list! BSG Admiral Adama :) was another of his legendary roles. We'll just have to wait and see how far he can take his character in Marvel Agents of Shield.
Principal Joe Clark in Lean on Me, 1989, played by Morgan Freeman
I love this and I think my favorite is Jack Black playing the music teacher in School House of Rock.
Errrm.. poor choice of words from that first clip for #4
Nice new profile pic :)
UnkeptMoss328 thanks! :)
Daenerys Targaryen can i masterpate 2 it?
PaperBagGuy Hey, if you're gonna ask that kind of question than at least spell the word correctly mate.
UnkeptMoss328 sorry fell on the floor when i was born
A bit surprised Mr. Campbell of Kindergarten Cop wasn't here anywhere. After he got the hang of it, he was like the best Kindergarten teacher ever!!!
i wish i had Mr. Keating as a teacher
I knew mr. Keating would be first! Love this movie, so touching!
Not sure if Fletcher from Whiplash should be in this list or the "Bad Movie Teacher" one .. haha
Bad.
SO happy stand and deliver made it onto this list!
Are we all just going to ignore the fact that at one point Lindsay Lohan was incredibly hot?!?
Yes
SuperGamingUltima Yeah she was totally one of my first celebrity crushes when I was a teenager and Mean Girls/Freaky Friday came out. What a train wreck that turned out to be in the years to come >.
Boobs tho
You missed Denzel Washington's Coach Herman Boone from Remember the Titans. Actually for that matter Will Patton's Coach Bill Yoast was pretty epic too.
No Yoda or Obi-wan from Star Wars?
I would say Jar Jar Binks, he taught that an annoying character can ruin a movie
Daenerys Targaryen Hahaha! So true.
Daenerys Targaryen so he is a bad teacher, right?
Daenerys Targaryen Or what about Storm Troopers? They taught us the *completely logical* lesson that just because you wear Body Armour from head to toe, doesn't mean you can avoid getting the snot beaten out of you by little teddy bears with stones and bits of wood!
Obi-Wan sucked.
His student became Darth Vader.
Why not suggest Hitler's art teacher while you're at it?
I was so much hoping for Robbin Williams to be Number 1. Absolutely great actor and great movie!!!
I forgot his name, but what about the principle from "Lean on Me?"
One of my favourite movie teachers is Scott Voss in Here Comes the Boom!!
Bueller...
Bueller...
Dan Cooper
Bueller...
Dan Cooper
Bueller...
Dan Cooper Fry...
LanturnGames Fry...
you guys nailed it for this one! Robin Williams deserved that ranking hands down.
I know that he more of a 'mean' teacher but c'mon Terrence Fletcher from Whiplash deserves at least a mention!
***** Yup
He's not kind hearted
But he's a good teacher as in being successful
***** this is a list about morally good teachers, not about successfully good teachers.
I love that movie :) Never seen Stand and Delivery so wasn't prepared to see Lou Diamond Phillips in the background lol
top ten underated comedian actor
#1 John Keating
#2 Remus Lupin
#3 Erin Gruwell
#4 Miss Jennifer Honey (Matilda)
#5 Minerva McGonagall
#6 Katherine Ann Watson (Mona Lisas Smile)
#7 Eugene Simonet (Pay It Forward)
#8 Albus Percival Wulfric Brian *Dumbledore*
#9 Ms. Sharon Nornury (Mean Girls)
What about Denzel Washington from the movie The Great Debaters
Diego Racon... It is mentioned in "The honorable mention".
Agree with number 1. John Keating will always be the best movie teacher. The last scene is one of the best movie endings and so emotional as well.
What about Clément Mathieu - Les choristes (The chorus)?
exactly what I was thinking!
The Ron Clack story with Matthew perry???
That has to be the dream teacher!!!
what about brenda from scary movie?
Good one..haha!
yeah, everyone forgets about brenda.
Mantis Toboggan I wish she was my teacher!
"now who the fuck threw that!"
Ram Shankar Nikumbh from taare zameen par😔🥺🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️
OMG, you actually put Philosophers instead of Sorcerers :D But any of the teachers of Hogwarts could be counted, except for Quirrel, Lockhart, Umbridge and the Carrows
Can you do a list of father-like figures? And if Geoff from Byker Grove isn't on, i'm going to be pissed!
What's so "OMG" about putting "Philosopher's Stone" there? That's the original title, but for some stupid and weird reason, it got changed in the U.S
I know! I hate when it's called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I don't know why everything seems to get changed for the American market.
Kelly Wilson And Barty Crouch Jr, seeing that he pretended to be Mad-Eye Moody for months as part of a plan to kill Harry.
Kelly Wilson except Sape too
I'd also discount Professor Trelawney.
Also, Helen claled her 'Teacher.'
havnt finished the video yet but I'd be damned if Professor Kieting (Robin Williams) is not in the top of the list
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES HE'S NUMBER 1!!!!!
Freedom writers is such a touching movie it is inspiring me to write a story similar to it! I looked this video up to share it with my father.
Before watching: John Keating better be No. 1 #ohcaptainmycaptain
I feel really smart
How about top 10 movie principals? #1 - Principal Joe Clark - Lean on Me
Ron clark?!?
Herbert Gower, played by Richard Mulligan in Teachers, was awesome. So was Nick Nolte as Alex Jurel in that same movie.
Whoopi Goldberg in "Sister act 1\2"?
Thank you I was wondering where sister Mary Francis was ...
"It's Mary Clarence"
Learned about the hola cost teacher in my old 8th garage English we also watched the movie it was pretty cool
I was about to say if Mr. Keating wasn't on here I was going to unsubscribe lol
John Keating is such an inspiration for teachers!!
I kind of miss Doloris VanCartier (Whoopi Goldberg) from SisterAct 2 in this list
