2024 BMW i5 M60 Review / The 5-Series gets electrified
The BMW 5-series has been the best overall BMW vehicle. Pretty much every 5-series from the E12 to the iconic E34 to the V10 powered E60, has been exceptional to drive and comfortable to be in. But now the BMW 5-series is going all-electric. So does the new 2024 BMW i5 M60 continue the strong legacy of the 5-series?
The 2024 BMW i5 is available with two powertrain options for the Canadian market. There’s a dual-motor xDrive40 with 389 hp & 435 lb-ft of torque (290 kW & 590 Nm) or this M60 variant with 593 hp & 605 lb-ft of torque (442 kW & 820 Nm) . In the United States, there’s also an eDrive40 with a single-motor layout that produces 335 hp & 295 lb-ft of torque (250 kW & 400 Nm).
The i5 M60 has an 84.3 kWh battery back mounted in the floor. This allows the car to drive for an estimated 412 km (256 miles). During my week with the car, I noticed an average energy consumption of 21.5 kWh/100km (2.89 Miles/kWh). With that kind of efficiency, I could have theoretically driven the BMW i5 M60 for up to 392 km (243 Miles). Pretty close to its rated efficiency.
The 2024 BMW i5 M60 starts at $95,000 CAD ($84,100 USD)which is $11,300 CAD ($14,000 USD) more expensive than the i5 xDrive40. This demo car came equipped with an as-tested price of $112,850 CAD ($90,900 USD).

2024 BMW X2 xDrive28i / Vastly improved but still has one flaw
มุมมอง 370วันที่ผ่านมา
The BMW X2 didn’t really conform to the design ethos of its generation. Sure it had the kidney grille but it didn’t have the coupe-SUV styling of the X4 or X6 and it didn’t have the traditional SUV styling of the X1, X3 or X5. Things are different for the 2nd generation 2024 BMW X2 with the car receiving the same coupe-SUV design of its bigger, even numbered siblings. The 2024 BMW X2 28i rides ...

As you may or may not know, the 2024 Toyota Rav4 Prime is a very popular vehicle. So much so that wait times range from 6 months to a couple of years (depending on region). So if you don’t have the patience to wait for one, is something like the 2024 Ford Escape PHEV a good alternative to the popular Rav4 Prime? Both crossovers are powered by 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engines. Of the ...

When the current generation Acura TLX was introduced, I didn’t like it very much. I found it comfortable for daily commutes but it didn’t live up to the sporty driving characteristics that modern Acura vehicles are advertised to have. The benchmark of family focused, luxury plug-in hybrid SUVs is the 2024 Volvo XC90 Recharge. I previously compared it against the BMW X5 50e (45e as it was known at the time) and while the BMW was the better driving SUV, the XC90 was still a better family SUV. This time around, I’m pitting the new 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e plug-in hybrid against the yardstick that is the XC90 Recharge. Let’s ...

    The shorter center screen is definitely more pleasing to look at then the tacky long vertical one. Mike is right about the 2.3. Sounds good on paper but is a farce to the the V6 it replaced in terms of fuel mileage and reliability. A natural aspirated or turbo charged V6 will be smoother while driving, idling, taking off and passing on the highway then any modern day 4 cylinder. The manufacturers save money building inexpensive 4 cylinders as opposed to V6's. The fuel savings is negligible and is a real world lousy argument and only holds muster to obtuse YOLO buyers. The rwd platform is definitely a plus and the optional 3 ltr V6 is not only a must but the really only engine choice that makes sense in a big heavy 3 row suv and most likely will achieve similar mileage as the 2.3. The Edge or Escape makes more sense for the 2.3 not the Explorer 🤙🏾🇺🇲

      They're not that rare anymore. The Kia Seltos & Mazda CX-30 both have a power liftgate while the Hyundai Kona has surround view cameras. Admittedly, not both. But the Kona & Seltos are both also available with ventilated front seats which this does not have. And also the Seltos has a head-up display as well. Surround view cameras are great but the ones on this Eclipse Cross have some of the worst resolution I've seen on a modern day car.

      Interesting comment... It seems like you didn't like the reviewer's opinion so you offered your own biased opinion. That's fine and I believe you. I can even share from my own experience as I own Ford Escape PHEV 2024 and my usually commute is about 52km, 90% of it is highway (no A/C on) during which the battery drops from 90% (I don't charge above 90) to 10-13% (the worst case scenario). The best result I saw so far was a drop from 90%-25% on the same route, which would be equal to something like 80km of electric range.

    Great review and to the point. I owned a Volvo Xc90 T8 since 2017 and recently drove tested the 2024 Recharge update which while felt a completely different car in the Driving/suspension departments it however felt the same in terms of comfort and practicality departments. Within our household we drive a VW ID3 and had in the past a MB 200e, BMW X1 and BMW 320i. The XC90 was miles ahead with technology in 2017 and is still the familys' favourite. The Kids can spend long hours in it enthusiastically than they do/did in the others, the Bowers and Wilkins is a treat, the air suspension is a bliss and the quiet ride when in EV mode is a bliss. I only wish if Volvo will add some of the features they are bringing in the new EX90 such as 4-wheel steering. fast charging and off course larger battery/milage for 70+ miles range. I would not be thinking of the BMW X 500e

    I love Honda, but they're moving on from fun simple cars. Even if they made a new S2000 with ICE, it would likely end up being closer to something like a Z4 type offering with a turbo. If you want simple direct driver feedback for B roads and twisty fun, you're stuck with the AP1/2 options, or going with a Mazda(or if Toyota keeps going the direction they've been headed, Toyota might have something coming up too).

    I don’t think the standard TLX is boring at all. I do believe we spend way too much time comparing a performer version to a “regular” version and because of that, people tend to take away the fun factors of the regular version. Is the Type S better? Without a doubt however, I owned a 21 TLX A-SPEC and I loved it. That 4 cylinder turbo charged engine isn’t slow. I now have the 23 TLX Type S and love it even more. I think both versions are great

      Unless it’s tuned your a spec is absolutely not 0-60 in the 5s range. The TLX Type S is actually 0-60 in that time. The a spec has been tested at 0-60 6.5

    Lithium ion or Nickle Hydride?

    Neither thanks - now if it was the choice between a NB MX5 [miata] and R53 cooper s then we'd be talking! As a 64 yr old with dodgy knees I would (and indeed, did) choose the Cooper. I also believe the "rear wheel drive is better" viewpoint is often overstated - a sort of reviewers perceived truth that doesn't stack up in the real world.

    I really like your review style. As someone with a bad back, I particularly appreciate that you include a segment dedicated to comfort. So many other reviewers barely cover that topic with some completely ignoring it.

    Can you do another comparison video like this for 2024?

    • @MGReviewsBlog
      @MGReviewsBlog 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That is going to be very difficult for me as I don't work with dealerships and most likely these cars won't be in the media press fleet any time soon.

    Thanks, but why can’t anyone do a review of what it’s built for OFF ROADING….

      @MGReviewsBlog 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      And risk it getting damaged & banned from driving other Stellantis cars? No thanks! This is the most off-roading I'm comfortable with doing considering I only have 10k subscribers and don't have the pull of the million subscriber channels.
