I wanted to build a set of Adirondack chairs for my front porch but there's a couple of things that I don't like about the design. They typically lay too far back for my taste, they sit too low to the ground, and they're stationary. Instead of reinventing the entire wheel, Rockler sent me their plans and template kit for their Classic Adirondack chair and I modified it to fix these three issues. In the end, I had a wonderfully comfortable Adirondack chair that is a hybrid of Rockler and Fisher's Shop! Furthermore, I have plans available on my website that will let you build the same exact chair! The material cost to make these chairs is very low making this a perfect beginner's project. And if you're looking to sell these chairs, you could make a killing! Check out the video and see for yourself!

Shame on your for stealing Brad's idea that Brad stole from me ;)
As you said on the podcast, I'm glad to see you riding the Adirondack chair gravy train haha
Haha, thanks Paul! I'm already grateful that you invented TH-cam and allow me to participate. Hey, thanks for listening to the show! That's so neat to hear. :)
@@FishersShop you sir should be thankful that Al Gore invented the internet so that I could invent TH-cam!
I am grateful that Elon Musk gave birth to Al Gore.
This thread only gets better as we go on. lol
Your neighbor always has too much extra stuff laying around. He needs to rethink his life! 😂
No need! He has Drew to help!
I think the neighbor leaves stuff out for him like a person putting out bird seed.
No no no. If he rethinks his life, where will Drew get all his wood from???
His neighbor’s stuff isn’t extra, it was his actual oil cap!!
All y'all missed it, Fisher said at the beginning of the video that the neighbor was building a fence (to keep Fisher out of his yard)! Merry Christmas! 💖🌞🌵😷
Nice chair. I love this honest and complete joy on your face when you see how well it turned out!
And I love the end of that video! 🤣
Glad you enjoyed it!
“Adirondack chairs are hard to get out of” - “I know, let’s make them move!” 😂
These are awesome! Thanks for another great video. I made a pair of Norm Abram’s Adirondack chairs many years ago. They are a very fun project and always a popular place to sit.
Nice tweak to the Rockler plans! I’ve made 17 of the original chairs over the years and have a few hints to share with your subscribers. 1) Use weather proof lumber, perhaps Western Red Cedar (which I’ve seen last the longest so far) 2) Look for places where pocket screws can be used to hide the hardware, especially on the arms, 3) Paint parts before assembly because the spaces can be too tight even for a sprayer, 4)Use coated deck screws or stainless steel screws to prevent rust.
And definitely don’t use galvanized hardware because it will stain the cedar black.
Ótimas dicas, obrigado.🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I always watch for the flathead screw. Good work brother. We just got rid of a hot tub that made a perfect spot for these.
Nice! Have fun with the build!
dang, If I had a shop like this.
Man I would be the happiest man ever,
I would live in there. My wife would maybe feel different, but she would like the things i make.
she already does. I just find a spot lay a plywood down and use what I have to make stuff.
Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do! :) Thanks for watching
Stayed till the end and was not disappointed. Glad to see the flat head made its way into the build!
I almost forgot it
Glad I watched the outtakes. I was about to ask for the flat head.
Almost forgot it
Great so see a real video again.
Glad you enjoyed it
I greatly appreciate the clarity and humor with which you present your videos. I also greatly appreciate your attention to detail.
Thanks! Glad you like them!
Oh my gosh, I was so confused until the very end. No walnut? No flat head screw? I was really concerned about you Drew - thank you for throwing in that last bit to let us all know you're OK. I really like the way you enhanced the basic Adirondack chair! I too don't like how far back they tilt nor how low they typically are to the ground. Your modifications look perfect. Thanks!
Thanks a bunch! Glad you enjoyed the vid
I WANT! 😍 The look on your face when you finally had it done reminded me of The A-Team: “I love it when a plan comes together!” Those are GORGEOUS and look super comfortable. Awesome job, Drew! 👍🏼
Thanks so much! :)
This is by far, my favorite woodworking channel.
Glad you're liking it! :)
I came across your channel during the 2020 corona times and you reignited my passion for woodworking, which I haven't done since graduating high school in 2005, and now at 35 years old i just signed up to do a carpenter apprenticeship and finally give myself the opportunity to do a job I've always loved. I'll have to keep these chairs in mind when I'm able to build stuff on my own
That's awesome! Best of luck with the new profession!
Came here for the outtakes. Stayed for the chair tutorial. 👍🏻
"Put the left foot in. Take the left foot out. Do the Hokey-Pokey and shake it all about!"
...
Nice chair and alterations, Drew! Will definitely keep this in mind if/when I need to replace what I already have.
Thanks! :)
Awesome Drew! Even MORE awesome: 400K subscribers!!! Congrats! Overdue! Keep making great content!
Thanks a ton!
MOST EXCELLENT!!
Thanks!
Thanks for making easy to follow mods to the Rockler plans. These go perfectly on our formerly empty front porch, and my wife is delighted!
Right on! Glad you like them
They look really cool. I've seen dozens of adirondack chair build videos over the years but I've never seen a glider version before. The design is very clever and you are absolutely right - the normal adirondack chair design is a bit too low down, especially if you have elderly parents or guests visiting. Thanks for posting.
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching
I'm definitely sitting in that when I come over next
For sure, buddy! :)
Amazing as always!! It was a really neat idea to make them a glider!
Thank you! 😊
Awesome Drew! The black stain makes them look very classy!
Thanks! I doused myself in black stain to look classy too but it doesn't have the same affect.
😂😂@@FishersShop
Funny how you and Brad and seemingly many others like me love the look of the Adirondack chairs but not the difficulty of getting out of them, etc. While I can argue I really don’t like them now that I am old and fat but honestly, I’ve never liked them for the same reasons. I really like the glider option you brought to the table! I’ll be ordering another set of your plans! Thanks for another great project and video!
You bet! Thanks for watching and have fun with the build
Phew, we almost missed out on the flat head screw. Glad you got it in there I love it
Hey Drew, I know you sold the RV but a small portable roubo bench or a toolbox idea for our caravans could be a cool video idea that you could sell plans for. I know the caravan & camping market here in Australia is massive so a little benchtop roubo or a toolbox with an integrated vice on end with dog holes on top or something else like that could sell very well.
I know the last thing you wanna do on holiday is more work, but if it had some kind of storage space you could hide your peanut m&m’s in there😅
"Folks like you"say thank you for the modified design, and always enjoy your videos!
You bet! Glad you like them!
Ahhh. It was good to hear one of the songs of my people once again at 2:09!
Wow Drew, you knocked it out of the park with this gorgeous project. We’ll done sir!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
I strongly suggest using a compression bit for template routing. You'll get no tear out and way less risk of catching.
I agree. They didn't have anything like that available so I just went with what they had
I’m so glad to see this. It completes the trio of recent TH-cam Adirondack designs, and I think it’s the best of them. Thank you for the wonderful video.
Wow, thank you!
Nice looking Adirondack chairs Drew! Thanks for sharing the video with us 💖👍😎JP
You bet! Thanks for watching
@@FishersShop :) your very welcome Drew! Have a wonderful weekend!😎
Smart making two to enjoy togetherness. Tweaking design and adding features feeds the creative genius in all of us. Thanks for setting the example!
Waking up to a new fishers shop video about the much anticipated Sliding Adirondack is a joy to my Saturday morning! Gonna make some breakfast before I press play ☕️ #WBAT
Aww, how sweet that you made one for you AND one for the shop foreman!
Had to. :)
Excellent builds i love them and you have to put a Flat Head screw somewhere, it's as traditional as your Out Takes at the end of your video or even pinching your Neighbours Wood 🤣Joking aside you and your wife looked sooooo comfy sitting there just rocking along on your new chairs and discussing how many of them you could dish out in a week to sell 🤔
Take Care and Stay Safe,
Barry (UK) 👍
Hah, thanks Barry! It wasn't a bad build... I actually told the wife if I had a huge order, I could see myself taking it on.
They look awesome!!!
Thanks! :)
I bought your plan for this chair. Thank you for the great plans
Hope you enjoy it!
Impressive design drew
Thanks!
@@FishersShop yeah!
Happy,Happy,Joy,Joy!
This video scared me into thinking my life is too short to build one of these. Or… I need to buy more tools so I can speed up the process. Option B it is!! Rockler tools, I’m thinking.
Love the glider option. Very nicely done, sir.
Thanks very much!
Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Thanks!
Thanks so much, I appreciate that
Drew, great chair. I love the changes you made. More videos we enjoy your your content. Thanks Scott
I appreciate it!
Cool modifications to the project. Something to build for next father's day next year
Right on!
I did the same exact thing with ebony stain a couple weeks ago! “The image on the can looks like what I’m going for… Oh, it’s just black.” 😂
😆
Drew, you nailed it~! I feel the same way about how low the typical Adirondack's sit. I love the way you modified it AND turning it into a glider was a brilliant idea. I'll be ordering your plans this weekend. Thanks bro~!
Awesome! Have fun with the build
They turned out really nice Drew,
Thanks!
Very happy for the flat head to be put in there.
😉
I love your videos. Especially your sense of humor! And yes, you would've caught a lot of grief if you had not used a flat head. Love how you snuck it in to the credits! Keep up the good work.
Whew! That was a close one! :)
Great build and great video.
So I get to the end of the build part and I am not seeing what I am looking for. I am thinking I have to watch it again to see where you snuck it in. I decide to watch the bloopers before I re-watch the video and low and behold I found the flat head screw! Thank you !
I almost forgot it. :)
Great looking chairs!
Thanks!
Now you've done it. Gave me another project. You trying to put me to work? lol. I could probably figure out how to make these without the plans and templates...if I watched the video a few dozen more times. I think ordering the Rockler plans and templates would be a lot simpler. And I do like simple.
Go for it! Have fun
I can't believe how smooth these glide! Great job. They look fantastic on your porch too.
Thank you!
You're just pretty dang awesome Mr. Fisher! Great presentation as always. I was glad to see you finally started talking to the Mrs while you were sitting on the porch. I thought for a while you were getting a lecture. I just happen to know what they look like.
😉
Great looking chairs
Thank you!
Awesome job Drew, that is one on the best redesigns of an Adirondack chair I've seen and the look on your face was great when you knew it was right
I was so pleased! :)
Awesome video. Always have to stick around at the end for the "Crap"s.
😆 There's always a few
One more modification could be made, cup holders. Need somewhere to put that cold drink. Great looking chairs. Well done!
It's illegal to drink and glide
Happy for the flat head screw at the end! Thanks!!
You're welcome!
Yes, I am very happy about the one flathead screw. 🙂
super dupper & nice use of the flat head screw for balance
Great design - well done!
Many thanks!
Super cool!
Thanks!
Beautiful fresh take on a venerable design! Bravo Drew
Thank you kindly!
Fantastic!
Many thanks!
Beauty…as always!
Thanks again!
Another cool project, thank you!
Glad you like it!
Fantastic work! Looks like I've got a new project to start on. Been looking into making some Adirondack chairs and now I've found the ones!
Go for it!
You sir are an utter joy to watch, not a cows utter more like a pigs.
Thanks 😊
I love your comedy in your videos . the chair is something I want to build.
Go for it!
12:20 aww look at you being all comfy in the chair! And it didn't violently fold up and pinch you inside so I think the remodel is a success!
Thanks, I appreciate that
Great job on the chairs. The modifications worked out well.
Thanks 👍
Really nice chair, Drew. I'm surprised your neighbor didn't have those glider brackets laying around so Rockler didn't have to supply them. I wish Rockler sold them in stainless instead of plated.
Bill
I've never seen a stainless set. I bet they'd look sharp
Had to wait for the outtakes to see the flathead screw be added. I was getting worried you didn't add one! The chairs came out lovely.
Thanks!!
Awesome!!
Thanks!
Fantastic. And I just knew there would be a leg installed backward in the outtakes.
I always skip leg day
Your videos never disappoint! And I always look forward to the outtakes. 😂
Glad you like them! Thanks!
Nice! The flat head screw!
Great video, Drew!
So glad you managed to squeeze in that flat-head screw there. The project might have been a complete disaster if you hadn't.
I have a friend who gets motion sick from a wheeled office chair. I might make them one of these gliders...
I almost forgot to add one!
Great job Drew!
Thanks! :)
Got love the stacking video with the sound effects.
:)
I am happy.!!!! brilliant
Thanks!
THIS time, I really would like some kind of cost comparison/breakdown. It appears that you spent a ton of money to make those chairs. I LOVE them and that is my favorite kind of chair. I don't enjoy regular rocking chairs or swings. And I agree with you AND Jackman that Adirondacks are uncomfortable to use.
About $100 per chair to make. I could easily sell them for $550 a piece.
Beautiful chairs! Thanks for sharing…. I’ll be making some this weekend!
Thanks so much, Greg! Send me some pics once you've done it!
Always love your videos! 👍👍
I appreciate that!
Well done.🙂🙂
Thank you! 🙂
Awesome job Drew! Those turned out amazing.
Thanks Gavin! :)
You make it look so easy. Great work as usual, sir. Oh, and thanks for the flat head 😊
I couldn't forget that! :)
Very cool 👍
Thanks for the visit
Love this!
Thanks!
Now you can sit in comfort as you watch to see when the neighbor gets more wood
😉
Awesome Video, nice looking chairs
Thanks!
Just what we need. Fabulous build
Thanks!
Many years ago I built a couple of adirondack chairs from a template. I built one as per the template and modified one. The aspect I changed was to have the front of the seat a few inches wider than the back, so I was not cramped. Unfortunately I don't that could be done with a glider.
😂😂Your patented flat head screw at the end 👏👏
Been planning to design a glider for our porch. I appreciate you doing it for me! Look forward to getting your plans and building a set for our home!
Glad to help! Have fun!
It's obvious why ur neighbour wants to build a fence... He knows you needed the materials 😂
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this Drew!!! Gliders are so relaxing. I definitely want to buy your plans and make one. I've got a $50.00 Rockler Gift Card right now that will work out wonderful to buy the Rockler items needed. You did an awesome build as usual and your sense of humor always keeps me laughing. Thanks for another GREAT project video!!!
That's perfect! So glad you liked it. Have fun with the build!
The 2 bearing router bit is so you can use either for using the template as a top or bottom, to go with the grain to suit.
