How To Make An Adirondack Chair

- I designed a modern Adirondack chair because I've found most to sit too low for my taste. Also, I wanted to add a more modern flair to it. I sought out initially to make a modern lounge chair but as I looked at it more I found it to be more fitting as an Adirondack. So here we are! I made mine out of eucalyptus but I would recommend something that isn't so hard such as cedar, sapele or white oak.

You make me feel like I should just give up woodworking. Why do I even try? Great job, Mike!
That's the last thing I want! Thanks, Drew!
First me, then Brad, then Drew Fisher, and now you with upright adirondack chairs in the last 3 weeks. We should really coordinate next time none of us know that we're building the same thing 😂
I hope you're not doing a hanging coffee cabinet next video lmfaooooooooo
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds I told Brad that if he does a pallet wood project next, then I’m going to get super suspicious hahaha
@@JackmanWorks I wouldn't put it past him. Constantly on everyone's coat tails
Great looking chair-- love how that eucalyptus looks with tung oil!
Thank you! Me too! Its stunning!
Beautiful chair! Keep up the excellent work!
Thanks so much!
Such a beautiful chair, this was a fun watch!
Thank you! It's such a comfy chair too :)
Awesome video. We are in year two of our woodworking side hustle and there’s a lot of good stuff here that helps make this type of production approachable.
Trying to share what I use when I can!
I like this video Mike, great job!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice...thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent build! 👍

Great build and really nice looking chair! I'm sure I'll be building some.
Thank you my friend!
Great looking chair. I really like the travel size wood glue bottle.
Not sure how no one else has noticed 🤣
Nice work!
Thanks man!
Nice build!
I'm glad you like it

🤣 it's the best way to describe it

The Panta (?) router is such a cool tool!
It really is amazing!
Excellent ending 🤌🏻
Thank you! Really tied it all together
That chair is a beauty~! The Eucalyptus is a beautiful wood. I would love to have it available here in GA, but I think Sapele would be a great substitute...that I can get (I think). Great job overall~!!
Thank you! And honestly, I'd prefer sapele. This is very difficult to tool.
Those are some really nice chairs. I was curious how thick the finished lumber was. I know that many people use 8/4, but this doesn't look that thick
This was finished at 1" with the slats closer to 7/8". Eucalyptus is very hard wood. Very strong.
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds thank you!
I actually have a ton of 5/4 Sapele laying around, so I may just have to pick up your plans. I have a small 31" cnc, should that be big enough to make the templates?
Amazing build. Definitely getting the templates as soon as I have some time to work on it. I am curious though, if I wanted to make this into a rocking chair, does the back leg angle need to change?
Thank you! I haven't even put my brain to what would need to change to make it a rocker honestly.
Great build! Im gonna give it a try! If I didnt have bolts to fit, would a nice half lap be a good substitute for that joint? Maybe a couple of dowels though the lap to double down on racking prevention as well if needed?
Lap joint is SUCH a strong joint. That would work great.
Any updates on when the plans will be for sale?
Sorry for the incredible delay. I will have them done this week or next. Waiting to hear from my vendor.
I’ll show you a magnum sharpie
Heyo! Watch your eyes!
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds eucalyptus? You can lick this magnum sharpie!
@TwoMooseDesign 😆 yup! Its a nightmare to work with haha
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds😂😂 never tried it lol alright I’m out of dumb comments
Do you know what sort of Eucalyptus the timber is? It is quite hard to tell on a video, but it looks like it might be Bluegum.
Not 100% on that. All I know is it's a pain to work with 😆
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds Being Australian, 90% of the wood I work with is some sort of Eucalyptus. While there's a huge variety (700+ species I think), there are only a couple of dozen that are regularly used. Many of them are hard and splintery (is that a word?). Great for furniture, but often challenging to work with.
@@PriceyBuilt it's very splintery. Joinery is unforgiving with it
I remember eucalyptus to be white color and not that beautiful color
Are you thinking of blue gum eucalyptus? This is red gum.

What
It was going ok - until - he ruined it with the bolts. All the screws were bad enough but the bolt make it look like a DYI chair kit from China.
