I have the exact same rearview dashcam mirror/back up camera kit. After installing it, I noticed that the back up cam powers up when I turn on the car but the rearview mirror doesn't switch automatically to the back up cam when put on reverse. I found another video in TH-cam and found the answer.
All this time, I thought it was the RED wire (from the back up cam) that powers it. IT ISN'T. It is the black plug that powers the back up cam (at 7:25 mark of this video). So to clarify and not to confuse people, the red wire from the back up cam is NOT a power wire. It is a reverse trigger wire (so the rearview mirror knows when to switch to the back up cam when put on reverse). Once again, it is the black plug that powers the back up cam (at 7:25 mark of this video) which is connected all the way to the rearview mirror, and then from the rearview mirror goes the power cord to the cigarette adapter. You have to make sure to connect the red wire from the back up cam to the +ve wire of the reverse light. You can do this by using a digital multimeter or a test light to confirm that. So when the reverse light turns on when put on reverse, it triggers the back up cam which sends the signal to the mirror and it switches the view automatically. When you put it back on Neutral, Park or Drive, everything goes back to normal and the dashcam in the front and the back up cam starts recording your video again.
I also find that the scotch locks (splice connectors) are not reliable. I recommend connecting the wires the same way as shown in this video or you can strip a small portion of the insulation in the middle of the wire (to expose the actual wire) and wrap around the other wire on it, then seal it off with an electrical tape (or heat shrink).
Peter Reyes, that helped but quick question a) do you have attach the red wires to the lights and b) if you don't does it still record. I am guessing it always records and the red wire setup is for reverse parking (which my car already has). Thank you in advance.

These are fantastic for folks that want to add a traffic cam that works with good quality video that install cheaply. Even with the best install it looks like an afterthought. Think of the video monitors that were strapped to the back seats of cars in the 90's. You have to be in a relatively good neighborhood. In a bad neighborhood you may just get the camera taken.
The systems that replace the factory mirrors completely are a better option. All the wires are hidden and they look stock. They do NOT have the same quality video and can only record forward video without modification. They are at least 4 times the price and more difficult to install. They are far more secure if you park your car in less than perfect areas.
For most people this is fine. If the mirror malfunctions you can just throw it away. Buy a new one and plug it in in seconds.

Installed Auto-Vox M2 camera system. Works fine except for backup camera. The image is flipped. What is on the left side of image should be on the right and vice versa. Told company and they sent new cables, which did not fix the problem.
Thanks for the video! this unit rocks! Nav screen reverse integration on my Porsche would have cost me 2k plus. This clip on reverse mirror works way better keeping my head up also easier to use the passenger mirror tilt to prevent curbing my rims. Much more natural to look from rear view to side view during back up.

I got a defective one. Those rubber support bands lasted about a day with the Florida heat. Using my wifes old hair bands as a replacement😂 They work like a charm. The reverse camera is not very accurate in regards to distance. Also, the rear camera image flickers. The image color flickers between normal to a sopia/pink color. 😮😮
I find it odd that the entire system isn't powered with a single 12v socket.
That would save a lot of hassle wiring the backup camera.
Would be great if both camera were recording at all time and I can press a button on the mirror to activate the reverse monitor.
Still seem like a great product for the price.
Wold buy it if I didn't have a car DVR already.
From what I understand it is powered by the 12v socket front and back all the time? The wiring is just a trigger to switch to reverse view when reversing the car, so I imagine you could just skip that part, and mount the rear camera, without the hassle of wiring, and just have permanent front and back recording?

That's a really good deal- a lot of people would need someone to do the install as they don't know soldering etc
I swear I have seen other systems just for the backup that can be set up to be on all of he time and not wired to only turn on when out in reverse. I would prefer a separate screen that has the rear always visible but man, for the money this is so tempting- just not sure I like the over the existing rear view concept- maybe if I could rig it to attach to the dash low. But that kinda defeats the design.

I bought this for super cheap years ago when I saw this video and I just installed it for the first time in an 09 Vibe (almost brand new car despite being 13 years old). Can you only access settings if you have a micro card in for memory?
I forgot to add if you stop the recording then hold menu button for 3 seconds you can access date, time, resolution and more settings.

Yves Estinvil If you wanted to recorded side to side you could buy the Dual Cam Dvr like I had and you can rotate side to side or point them both to front or rear.

Awesome video!!! But it's not recommended to have the reverse camera outside the car, it's not waterproof and can be prone to be damaged, it's recommended to have it inside the back window of the car itself, many instruction manuals recommend this to prone the life of the lens..

Just curious, if the cigarette lighter is already in use, is there any other way to wire up power to the mirror?
You could definitely wire it up in your fuse box, but that's a bit more of a pain

So I bought this thank you for the review. Both back and front video shows fine, But when I put the car in reverse the video have lines in it any suggestion on what might be the problem? I recommend if you buy this and have a full size sedan, suv or truck but a extension 2.5 mm video aux cable.

Don't know if this has been mentioned before or not, but why is the footage from the rear camera mirrored? The footage starting at 0:43 shows the vehicle make a right turn but the rear view footage is mirrored.
UPDATE: battery lasted 2 years, still works when car is on but i bought a new mirror anyways. still recommend Rearview mirror DVR dual camera system only $35 bit.ly/2OqU9lr

1. Whenever I open any of the doors, the cam turns on by itself and I have no idea why. I've only attached the rear cam wire to the wire of the reverse light.
2. Unlike in your video, I didn't attach the ground wire to the black&white one, but to a metal screw. Would you think it's a bad idea?

I got a EzonetronicsRM-LZ2010 and it only has a red wire to hook up to the brake lights, no black ground wire. Is this defective or can it be hooked up with just the red wire, the cord does not seem to be missing, it just is not there.

I just purchased the D700 and installed it in my wife’s Beetle. When I put the car in reverse, the screen does switch to show the multi-color “grid” you’d expect, BUT -
1. There is no image from the rear camera appearing on-screen, just the grids against a black background.
2. It automatically powers OFF after about three seconds.
Any ideas? I’m wondering if maybe the polarity is backwards, but I double checked with a multi-tester and it appears to be correct (unless the black and red coming from the mirror/screen are reversed at the factory?)

Does it have a dim mode? For example, if the car behind yours has headlights that are too bright, will it dim automatically/have an option to dim?
They need one that replaces the factory mirror. My mirror already has a backup camera built-in. I want to replace it entirely with a mirror that also acts as a dash cam. It also should be powered by the car automatically, just like the standard mirror is.

tell me does the front camera move to get you a front facing camera? when you have this on the rear view mirror your camera will face more towards the right side of the road . or does the camera take that into account and has that built into it already so it does face forward? thanks

I just installed the m2 reversing camera from auto vox. When there is no picture on the mirror and i reverse, the picture flickers.When any picture is on the mirror and i reverse the rear camera picture is clear. Is this a defect and should I return the unit?

Tampatec I need help? I bought the same DVR mirror but it wont loop record. it says memory card full even tho i have it set to loop record I formatted the card inside the dvr but it still fills up and wont loop record
Hey, good video indeed. Are you still satisfied with the product? I've got similar on Aliexpress, however I am not really imperessed with the quality. The manual seems was taken from another products since some features not in the correct order or does not included at all, for example night vision.. I am about to find another one but want to be sure it is good. The one you demonstrated looks much better.

Can you still pull down and push all the way forward the sun visor? Also, can I power the mirror without using the cig port?

It seems the backfacing cam records side switched . Frontfacing it showed a right turn, backfacing showed a left turn... It is around .40 sec.

Nice and affordable ! Question: I have a rear-view mirror so at night, I don't have to flip it up to avoid the bright lights from the vehicle following me. How does this mirror work at night? I would hate to lose the feature and look for another dash cam that would allow me to keep the stock mirror.
+Kevin Shea since its just clipped on you Can still use the tilt tab, hope that helps. i actually used it last night when annoying super-sized truck with flood lamps was driving behind me, after i flipped my mirror tilt tab he started to tailgate me, maybe he was getting a reflection back, lol, good!

I'm looking for a dash camera for my vehicle, have looked many of them. This one is cool but I have just one problem. I have a 2010 e350 Mercedes. Have a back camera already, I assume your car as well. The problem that I would have is to install the back camera, I wouldn't have the tech skills to do what you did even though it doesn't look complicated as well that I would have to dismantle a few things while adding the wire. That would be best for some tech skills shop who deals with those kind of things. But I like this dashcam no dough about it. Where can I order this item?

Hi, it only has 1 2 3 minuets loop, how about if something happened more then 3 min.? It will loop after 3 mins. And loose the beginning of the accident? Thanks

It works in cold weather I live in Chicago it got to 2 Deb and -25 windshield just the reverse cam was going slow
HI there, first of all I really want to thank you for your review. Thanks to you I was able to install my rear view camera. Now if you don't mind I have a question for you. The back camera or rear camera is blurry and I don't know how to correct the focus. It is there a problem with the camera installation maybe or is there any way to correct the focus from the rear mirror itself. I would appreciate your help. Thank you again Tony
Two things to check on your back up cam:
1) Make sure there is no plastic covering on the lens
2) I believe you can twist the lens clockwise/counter clockwise to adjust the focus
The problem with mine is the mirror part isnt very reflective, although I haven't installed it yet. it goes pretty much black when I view the video

So to answer your question, both front cam and back up cam records your video all the time. The back up cam is powered by the rearview mirror, NOT when putting the car in reverse.
Hi Peter i've put the red wire to set the trigger and i thought the black wire was ground so put it to the ground, should i leave the black one disconnected then? As i can't get a picture (i assume this is my issue then) Or does the black wire need to go somewhere too?
So to clarify, I don't have to deal with connecting red and black wires for the rear cam to function? I don't need a back up cam when in reverse. While driving is the rear cam recording at the same time the front is?

Hi I have taken my van to a garage to connect the red wire to the reverse light wire, on doing so he said he saw the camera come on then all the display disappear,and now the mirror won’t switch on, there is power to it but know life from the camera, I have try the reset button but with know Success can you help thank you
