As a former owner of the R6 and now an owner of the R6 MKII predominately shooting stills I would not upgrade to the R6 MKIII if it remains at 24MP. The original R that kicked off the R system was 30MP and it would need to go to that for me to change two SD card slots are not the issue, neither is the AF or the FPS of the R6 MKII. The video is also completely fine and for anything better I use the R5 which I will upgrade to the R5 MKII once batteries become more available. Now Canon where are the other fixed prime f1.4L lenses?
As an owner of the original R6, I've barely gotten it broken in! Love the high ISO capabilities, and crisp clean images it takes. These two year updates are way too fast for me! Maybe the Mark iv?? Pretty happy with this one though!
Just because they update every two years, doesn't mean you have to Alan ;) If I didn't have this channel, I would not have as much gear as I have. When you do upgrade, the R6 will seem like a completely different camera.
Had the same focusing issue with the R5 mark II. Focusing got “lost” despite having strong subject with lot of contrast. Used manual focus and it recovered with no further issues.
I have an R6ii and the only 2 things I find they need to fix is the hdmi situation (full size, and the screen not blacking out) and the ibis wobble The only feature I find that I’d want them to add is 4K 120, but it’s already a really solid, underrated camera
It truly is underrated. I think it also has one of the sharpest and cleanest 4k60 I have ever used. I only learned to appreciate this camera more once I got the r5ii and realized how much I missed the simplicity and power of the r6ii.
It depends on what one shoots. 20-24 is the sweet spot for many. 30-32 for others. Others want 100mp, 45 or 61. But had they kept the R6 line to 30 mp, I think that would have made a lot of people happy.
Love the original R6 for astrophotography and shooting wildlife in low light. I rented the R6ii with intent to buy, but didn't see significant improvement, and actually saw slight degradation in low light situations. It's not my only camera, but for what I use it for it really shines.
I've seen videos of people already returning their R5ii's because of the wobble. Thhis camera also needs an improvement in iso/noise performance and better AF. And zero overheating.
It was there in the Mark 1. I just avoid shooting under 35mm with IBIS on, IBIS off for less than 35mm. There needs to be a way to turn IBIS on or off with a button customization.
@@OrdinaryFilmmakeron the R5C you can pause the electronic stabilization with a custom button. But locking the IBIS mid shot would have to create quite the jarring frame. Honestly I’ve been shooting with the R5C with the 28-70 and no stabilization at all. It’s pretty stable with a side handle and top handle. Plus stabilizing in post is much better without any stabilization (IBIS or electronic) because it doesn’t have to correct for the unnatural movements introduced by the sensor or electronics.
The most annoying thing camera manufactures can do, is add two different types of memory card slots. Just put dual UHSII or Dual CFExpress. Or do Sony's fancy two of either or.
I've been hoping for this as well for more consistency across their models. Also shouldn't be forced to go to 45mp just for a top screen we had on every prosumer DSLR and up

Hi! In my opinion, I don't think that the R6 ii needs to be refreshed right now. For stills it is a very good camera, actually better in FPS and DR than the Z6 iii. But the Z6 iii is better than the R6 ii when it comes to vídeo, but not that much better that it justifies refreshing the R6, IMHO. So, I don't think we'll be seeing a refresh of the R6 this or the following year. Rumors were wild also with the R5 ii being released soon after the Z8 and a7R5 came out, and Canon didn't do that, that's why I don't think it will happen. Anyway, let's see what happens! All best
@@OrdinaryFilmmakerI think they dumbed down the Z6 iii due to to the Z8 and now Nikon have shot themselves in the foot. The difference in price between the new camera and Z8 is slight…why would you buy it?
Early 2025 will be interesting with potentially the R6III and a7V announced. As someone interested in sports and general photography, I'll likely upgrade to one of the two.
I've registered for ProFusion, I went last year and it was fun for what little time I was there for (work texted me with "hey, you got online training to do" while I was only there for a little over an hour). If the R6iii or R7ii absolutely requires that new LPE6N battery, I may not jump on, and just grab me an R6ii to compliment my R7.
@OrdinaryFilmmaker Last year, I walked the floor gear gawking. I scoped out the Canon and Sigma booth, asking for any hints of 3rd party lens support. Lexar gave me a couple of 64gb microSDs. I wanted to manhandle the Sony A9iii because it was just released, but that lineup was huge. I originally wanted to stay to see a couple of presenters, Anthony Gugliotta tipped me off to this event and was a Canon presenter last year. Looks like Gerrald Undone is there this year for Sony.
I’m far too invested to leave Canon but my god I will not spend another dollar with them until they have an FX3 competitor. I genuinely cannot fathom a reason they wouldn’t have devoted 95% of their R&D budget towards matching Sony in this regard. R5 lowlight is embarrassing compared to the fx3 and even the a7iv. Before someone say anything, NO, the C70 and C80 are not competition for the fx3. They are MUCH larger and not suited for the same use cases as a mirrorless sized camera.
I’m rocking two R6MK2’s, and I love them. For me for what I shoot I think the R6MK3 should come with a stacked sensor. If the R6Mk3 doesn’t have a stacked sensor then I see no point in getting one. I’d much rather wait some more to see if they release a R3MK2 with supposedly a stacked global shutter.
Hi Simon, sounds good for the R6iii .. shapes up to be a gripless R3. R6iii getting "some variant" of digic accelerator bodes well for the R7ii later next year .. Because the beloved CFxB card is an efficient source of overheating, I'm pretty sure that's why the R6ii didn't get one yet. Canon first wanted to resolve this topic for the R5ii. Do note CR mentions this time CFe .. they don't explicitly specify type B .. which leaves the door open for a CFxA. Canon starting to use CFxA would surprise me big time, but you said a Sony competitor would start using CFxA, right ? For a smaller sensor this might be fast enough and produce less heat .. but many will dislike it 🙈
Is it sooo much to ask for an updated 30-36mp sensor body? Why 24? Give me an R with faster frame rate, better video, and a joystick/wheel combo and I'll be a happy boy.
It will be a CFexpress Type B. Canon won't go Type A and Type C is just way too big. The other slot will be v90, V60 and V30 compatible SD card. Just like we see in the R3 and R5.
Considering where it sits in the lineup, I would think they would stay with the completely usable 24 mp. Hard to say on the cf express. I tend to think it wouldn’t as so many photographers are still heavily invested in sd cards, particularly photographers doing volume work like school pictures and school sports teams. But I guess one of each is certainly possible.
I had the same issue with the R5M2 with the RF 24-105 f/2.8 Z lens in that it stopped auto focusing a few weekends back photographing roller derby. After taking out the battery, it resumed working.
