    • @evancrazyerror
      @evancrazyerror 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Bart No, they will most likely update the iMac 21.5 inch first because it’s been longest without an update. Even the A12X can outperform a base iMac 21.5. Arm ≠ Weak.
      I’d assume Apple would wait a while to update the 27” since they just updated it. If i were to guess they’d announce it in 2022, and have a “One more thing” be a new Mac Pro.

      And completely drop OS support, effectively putting that brand new machine that you just spent a kidney for into under the vintage section. At least with this coming switch, we can still keep our intel machines current by using an alternative operating system. That’s the real reason they’re switching away from intel. They want to get that power back that they can only have when they have their own unique architecture that the rest of the industry doesn’t use.

Hasn't had a chrome update since 2016 and hasn't had a system update since God only knows when, but it always did the things I used it for so I didn't see a reason to upgrade until recently. Now I can't do much on it anymore due to websites not trusting this machine and inability to establish a secure connection. I Usually use MacBook Pros, but have been using this for a while now and have grown to like the desktop experience with a mouse and keyboard over laptops. Thought about gutting the hardware and building a Hackintosh since this is a nostalgic little thing, but eh it's time for something modern LOL! The transition will no doubt be a bit buggy initially - i think most general consumers won't take notice and jump straight to the 1st gen silicon macs, but i think pro users who rely on existing software and mature/stable versions of mac os will stick with intel macs for a while longer, until the inevitable teething problems of the silicon transition are sorted. This is exactly what happened with the transition from powerpc to 1st gen intel macs in 2006

    6:28 Core Player can be used on PowerPC G4 Macs at around 1GHz and higher to playback 720P video at it's native framerate, and any G5 should crunch through a 1080P video with it as well. At least 32MB vRAM on the G4 recommended and 64 on the G5. This is all due to lack of codecs and codec optimizations, which Core Player does offer.

    I hope that the software support for the intel Macs is better than the last transition software support. That's the only thing I am worried about. I would like to see minimal 5 years macOS updates since the release day.

    @Luke Miani, I currently have a 2017 5k iMac processor which is a i5-7600k, I run very heavy Adobe Illustrator files and it is becoming extremely slow, is it possible to upgrade it to a newer one like the i9 9900k, since it is the same socket, not sure if the chipset supports it. is there a way to know all the compatible cpu for a specific iMac model?

    My 1st iMac was 17" Intel Core 2 Duo (T7200 Merom) come with 1GB DDR2 and ATI X1600 (pretty good spec on that time), it is 2006, and the screen quality and resolution is ahead than PC that time, 1440x900, while most of other is still 1280x800, 1024x768 etc.
    And the built-in SPEAKER is very nice ! I still remember how often I use Frontrow to listen music, and my friend keep finding where is the speaker ?
    The design is simply excellent, the included white keyboard and mice (they call mice) is very high quality, and it run both Mac OS and Windows !

    I picked up one of the new 27" iMacs having been though the 68k --> PPC and PPC --> Intel transitions the thing I learned was never buy the first gen of the change. They work the bugs out firing that first run. So I am figuring I will keep this one till 2022 and then get one of the ARM iMacs.

    That first little Intel I-Mac has a CD-ROM drive on the side. Something the current I-Mac's don't have. Some of us still have software on CD's, like the software that comes with a printer/scanner, or a Wacom tablet, and some books come with CD-ROM's. That first Intel I-Mac is 17 inch, and that last Intel I-Mac is 27 inches. Both of them have that chin.

Btw, had to buy a new 27" 8-Core i7 iMac to tide me over until the Apple Silicon replacement drops and I have to say that compared to my 2013 Quad Core i7 27" iMac, I've been a little underwhelmed.

      Seriously you should max out the ram if you have not along with a 240GB SSD, and install a lightweight Linux distro such as MX Linux which still supports 32bit, and should run better.

      Commodorefan64 RAM is maxed out. I have not bothered with the storage yet. Once the computer is logged in it’s ok, but not optimal. I generally haven’t been able to get my mom to understand Linux, unfortunately 😅 Although, since she doesn’t really depend on MS Office anymore, Linux may become a reality soon 😊
