      Personal theory about armor lock: its a function that the Spartans can activate vocally or neurologically like we saw Chief try to do when he tried to delete the Weapon. So the can lock or unlock at will.
      The reason why the marines needed to u lock Chief in Halo 3 is because it was implied that they (in world at least) thought he was dead, though he was likely just unconscious and came to as they were retrieving him.
      In Reach I assumed a number of a few things were happening. First off, while mechanically the armor acts similarly to Halo: CE they're supposed to have different armor and mildly less in quality than Chief's. So the armor lock armor ability is an experimental upgrade to the regular armor lock. Or perhaps that is the armor lock systems on an older outdated set of Mjiolnar so they have to go through it that way.

    As far as Jun splitting off from the rest of Noble team. Just listen to what Carter tells Jun as they split up. Halsey says "I don't require an escort commander." To which Carter then tells Jun to make sure nothing falls into Covenant hands. Carter sent Jun with Halsey to make sure she either arrived safely at Castle base so long as that was possible, and if it wasn't it's very much implied that Jun was to execute Halsey if capture seemed imminent. shields in the mark v are manually dialed in by the spartan (or ai) through their neural lace. they have to manually tweak each shield projector so they still maintain friction with their boots and gloves meaning it's a constant balancing act to maintain full body coverage, meaning some parts are weaker. this is also confirmed by chief backhanding a missile to deflect it, he had cortana divert the shields to his arm and hand. and his shields are is something that required a literal fusion reactor to power.
      chief's armor in halo 2 used a different power supply. definitely more efficient.
      but the resilience might be referring to how the shields maintain their power uniformly. instead of diverting the shields to specific body parts, they maintain full strength at all times and at full body coverage to prevent weak spots except the head. no balancing act, no diversion, and fast recharging would be a welcome change that earns a kind of resilience the mark v didnt have.

    About the Heretic Leader:
    If you listen to the terminals that show Sesa (Heretic Leader) and Guilty Spark talking, you can see why Sesa opened fire on the Arbiter. The Arbiter and Heretic Leader were great friends. Sesa figured Thel (Arbiter) died along with the first Halo ring. He knew that Thel would be the only person that would believe him. BUT he expressed concern that if Thel had become an Arbiter, then he would be fully under the control of the Prophets. Sesa wanted Thel to see the truth but was unsure if he'd actually take it to heart. Unfortunately Sesa's doubts got the best of him and he opened fire on Arby.

Buck comes across dead elites that were presumably killed by the brutes on account of the great schism. Yet this mission takes place only an hour after the new Mombasa slipspace incident, and the great schism doesn't occur till the arbiter is betrayed on delta halo. • @cyqry
      @cyqry ปีที่แล้ว +60

      Truth had been planning his takeover for a while, having messed with Mercy's throne so it wouldn't activate defenses when he was attacked and refusing to send aid to Regret until it was too late (hence Rtas being pissed that he recalled their Phantoms, Truth had intentionally delayed their arrival and sending help), not to mention he sent a ship to glass the structure despite not having any real confirmation that Regret was dead yet. He'd also set up the Brutes to take over the Elites in various positions, how do you think the Covenant maintained a strong enough military to deal with both a Schism and the Human-Covenant War for a few months after the handover rather than immediately collapse?
      Like Asuka said; we only fight Elites as the Chief in Mombasa, but when Truth arrives he brings an army of Brutes. The remaining Elites were left behind by Regret, and Truth knowing that Regret was isolated and going to die soon decided to clean up shop. To him, the Elites were already the enemy, he didn't want the Portal to the Ark being in the hands of Elites nor did he want a sizeable amount of them left on Earth of all places being able to ally with Humanity.

    • @Seriona1
      @Seriona1 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    • @silentphotographer117
      @silentphotographer117 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the separating of June and Halsey I think it makes sense to transport 2 important “assets” separately. Think about it. Separate they have a lesser risk of both Cortana and Halsey being captured or destroyed. Separately if one gets caught the other still has a chance to make it.

    • @olanmills64

      That makes total sense. Also, Halsey is selfish and the Spartans listen to her. She may have used the state of disarray of the UNSC to commandeer Jun to ensure her safe exfiltration from Reach, placing herself above the important mission Noble team had.
      I'm sure that in her mind, adding additional risk (by not including Jun's support) to Noble Team's mission is more than acceptable because she thinks of herself as being so important. Even though I think she's self-centered, she could still justify it as saying that she is an important asset in the fight against the Covenant and her safety is all the more important if the Cortana shard is lost along with Noble Team

That blade should have cut a huge chunk of his torso and killed him even with his sniper being in the way and his puny ODST chest armor that has storage in it which means its got hollow parts underneath and is not actually a solid chunk of metal. So it is very believable that the engineer freed Dare out of curiosity, and Dare panicked and darted into the data hive, where she lost connection until she found a communication device way later in the game to contact UNSC forces. The engineer could have 'repaired' the pod by replacing the hatch, and was trying to repair the helmet when the grunts arrived, where it also panicked and hid.

    Part of the reason why it was so easy to infiltrate high charity was because the gravemind allowed it. During cortanas captivity she managed to keep a secret from the gravemind. She managed to evade him for 17 days so the gravemind decided that John would be able to get the information. Also the gravemind had clearly moved to the control building on the ark so it was no longer inside of High Charity. In fact High Charity would largely be useless to the flood after it was crashed into the surface. So between the gravemind trying to figure out the secret, moving off high charity, high charity not being strategically important, and knowing that being in control of the ark is more important than stopping a single spartan. Once the gravemind finds out that the secret is literally the only thing that can stop it the flood start flooding. It's similar to real life ejection seats where a pilot will be given a base set of gear needed to survive and evade capture until they can be retrieved.

    Regarding Halsey in Reach. Halsey volunteered to stay on Reach as apart of Operation: WHITE GLOVE. This was a operation designed to deny Covenant access to UNSC data, tech, and anything they could use against the UNSC. Technically Noble Team was assigned to Operation: WHITE GLOVE as the destruction of sensitive data that they were officially sent to deal with during their return to SWORD Base is apart of Operation: WHITE GLOVE.
    Halsey's role in all this is to make it to CASTLE Base where she was tasked with destroying several AI to prevent the Covenant from getting to them per the Cole Protocol. Why specifically Halsey has to be the one I don't think we're given a clear answer other than she volunteered. However it's odd that someone of Halsey's importance was basically volunteering to die (The Pillar of Autumn was the only way off Reach so she had to know this was a one way trip) to destroy AI though I have a theory as to why she had to be the one to do it. CASTLE Base has had all its personnel evacuated by the time Halsey gets there. Castle Base being a very secret facility probably has very strict security protocols things like passcodes, access badges, or other security measures. Halsey would have access to this base and have nearly full run of it given her status and position meaning she may be one of the few people who can get into this base. Normally the UNSC would probably be able to get other people who are less important inside but many high ranking officials are dead or evacuated from Reach I.E. the people who could do this and we know the facilities staff are all gone when Halsey arrives which are also people who may be able to let someone else inside to destroy the AI. This leaves us with pretty much just Halsey who's both alive and on Reach still with the ability to get into CASTLE Base an accomplish this mission.
    As for why Jun has to go with Halsey its the same reason Halsey has to go but he's not there to destroy AI. Halsey is just as much a security threat as the AI in that facility if captured, Jun's mission is to prevent the Covenant from getting their hands on Halsey, Carter says so as they leave.
    TLDR:
    Halsey has an important mission that must be done per the Cole Protocol and Operation: WHITE GLOVE to destroy AI and Jun's mission is to evacuate or kill Halsey per Operation: WHITE GLOVE.

    Ok, the first one I may have an explanation for. The Covenant were closing in on Dare's pod and brought in an engineer. But after it got it open, she managed to get out but not before losing/ damaging her helmet. Knowing that humans don't leave each other behind, the Conveant set a trap for the rest of the team. As for the reason, Dare didn't communicate, either her radio is short-range or was damaged so she needed to find an extender to boost her signal.
    Second, maybe he calculated that getting to the Hornet, or another aircraft, would have taken too much time. I mean the hornet is kinda slow for aircraft. It's not a fast-moving drop ship like a Pelican and even that, the glass which Miranda crashed through may have been too hard for the Hornet to shoot or fly through.
    Yeah, don't have an explanation for that. An engineer could have dropped it, it could have landed on a banshee before dropping. There are a lot.
    Yeah, no weak. Some people just use son as a term of endearment or friendship like mate or dude.
    That sounds plausible, not to mention it also clears up some problems with the books.
    Don't think so, he probably got left behind.
    I think this one can be easily explained. Basically, it's asset denial and mission priority. Halsey wasn't needed for the mission to the Pillar of Autumn so there was no need for her to go. Even then, if they had both Cortana and Halsey on the same ship, that's a higher risk that they'd lose both of them. To use another franchise, in the 40K Cain novels, Cain explains that it's Imperial Guard procedure to have the two commanders of a regiment to be deployed on separate ships. That way, their effectiveness isn't hampered by the death of the commanding officer. It's the same situation when Halsey and Cortana spit. But it's also due to the fact that Halsey isn't needed for the mission, not to mention she would be in higher danger of getting killed or captured. If they split then the Covenant would have to prioritise one over the other.
    The heretic did say that he would rather die by the Arbiter's hand. So for him, it was a matter of honour. He wanted to die by a warrior's hand and not a Prophet and their lies.
    Well, Johnson is a survivor of the Orion/ Spartan I program. As for the in-game thing in H1, probably recycled voices. I think Johnson's escape was documented, correct me if I'm wrong, as for him getting from Delta to Earth that's likely due to priority. After killing Tartarus and getting the info from Spark, it's likely that they made their way to Earth as fast as they could. This could be due to a portal that Spark opened up, or slipspace. But both assume that Truth's ship is slow. Which it could have been as he may have not understood the controls of the ship.
    I would argue that due to his Spartan arguments that he may not need to wash as often, but I do think she's lying.
    Ok so armour lock. Six's armour is an older style of armour so the armour lock is most likely a feature that allows the Spartans to walk once they've landed. It could also be argued that the reason why Chief's needed to be unlocked by someone else, is due to that he was unconscious and needed a third party to check his vitals. If he woke, it would have unlocked. As for the ability, I'm thinking that is both a shield buff and override. Because armour lock is a survival feature, in that it freezes the Spartan, the designers of armour lock used the extra protection from the feature and added a shield boost for even more protection.
    It's possible that it was reacting to another threat like the sentinels. But yeah it is strange. It could have been a move to make them think that he is weak so that when they come for Cortana, he can take advantage.
    I don't even know where to start with the last one as it's just so weak. So I'll leave it.

To be fair, when he shows up on ODST it say it's one month after the slip space rupture, not one week. It still is hard to make sense of it as it took regret 2 weeks to get to Delta Halo from Earth. Then they all spent what I would assume were a couple of days on the ring. Halo 2 implies that the events are happening at the same time, so chief was getting in the dreadnought as the arbiter was killing Tartarus. 2 weeks to head back to Earth for both, but the dreadnought made a stop on Io while master chief raised hell inside lol (per the comic Halo Uprising). While the arbiter and Johnson b lined for earth. That's the only logical explanation.

    Chief’s armor lock is most likely an archaic form, as his armor is an older version of Mjolnir than what Noble 6 has access to.
    As far as Spartan VII is concerned, the inside of the armor fills with a special foam that stiffens around the body to absorb the impact of the landing. Since the foam hardens, that’s most likely what locks Chief into position. Newer spartan models likely use a different method for armor locking.

      now it is true they have impact gel in their suits, to reduce the damage of high energy impacts, but this system was designed to stop bullets from breaking ribs, because even a stopped bullet still hits you like a truck, often causing cracked ribs and heavy bruising IRL. and to keep them moving through things like objects being thrown by explosions hitting them, or a brute or elite (canonically stronger then they are) from just punching them until the person in the suit is pulped without any damage to the outside. it was overpressured during the landing in the fall of reach to give them a better chance, this caused many suits to blow the seals and gaskets for the system restricting how fast and strong they could move until it was repaired, but letting some of them survive
      the reason noble was fine anyway was his M-SPEC re-entry pack, a backpack mounted shield generator that makes a heat shield and parachute-ish device out of energy shielding, it appears (because his backpack was not, you know, on his back) that it broke off just before he hit the ground, injuring him but making the fall survivable (fun fact, the MK7 armor, never featured in the games, but in a few books and a cannon easter egg in dead or alive. had the ability to make shapes with its shields as well, it would have been used to form airfoils so spartans could glide significant distance, survive orbital falls with no assistance. as even the chief needed that door to surf to survive re-entry and even extend their shield for use as a melee weapon)

Halsey even refuses the escort, but she’s a scientist, she doesn’t understand how valuable tactically she is.

    Sgt Johnson wasn't a named character in Halo CEE, he was simply "Sniper Sargent". Sgt. Stacker was one of the only Marines with a name. So a lot of thought wasn't really given to him being in more than one place because uh... he wasn't a narrative character. They did kind of retcon this in the novel First Strike by saying that Johnson has some weird genetic nerve disorder and that's why the Flood failed to take him.
    Reach doesn't make a lot of sense all over the place because Reach was a dumb game on several levels.
    Dare's crash pod was always weird to me, as it never feels like she really has enough time to get out of the pod. The other issue is that her helmet is really fucked up but she has a totally fine face. I feel like maybe that there was going to be a mission covering her missing story but ultimately it was cut. I always kinda figured the engineer put the door back on because engineer, though. Her pod also landed pretty conveniently as a beacon to the underground, because IIRC that door where her pod is can be accessed in mombasa streets to enter the underground.

    • @spookmeyer970
      @spookmeyer970 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZedByt It's got a bunch of weird retcons, the entire cast basically lives to die, which might mean something if we spent any actual TIME with them, but they maybe get a level or two with us before they start getting knocked off in cutscenes (and in some really dumb ways, too) The PoA being in dry dock IN ATMOSPHERE is hilariously stupid. There's a bunch of tiny little details that spring out everytime I touch the game.
      Reach was supposed to be the largest shipyard and military fortification outside of Earth. The gateway to the inner colonies, and the sort of border between safe UNSC space the more dangerous outer colonies. The most secure location outside of Earth, and the largest fleet concentration outside of Earth. Instead we see it as more of a frontier backwater, notable for top secret ONI stuff and not much else.
      The Fall of Reach was supposed to be a super massive space battle where the UNSC were outnumbered 3:1 and consisted of the entire loss of the UNSC fleet present. And that space battle was only a distraction so the Covenant could land troops on the planet to take out the generators for the orbital MAC guns (and look for forerunner ruins and top secret oni stuff).
      The Pillar of Autumn was already fully refitted and on her shakedown cruise before going on a covert mission behind enemy lines to look for a Prophet to capture. The covenant show up and the spartans split up: most of them heading to the surface to fight the ground invasion while the chief and a few others head to an orbital drydock. The Chief is the only one who makes it back intact, and heads off to halo 1, while the other spartans pretty much disappear into side media.
      The UNSC fleet strength is cut to pretty much whatever battlegroups remain in the inner colonies and the fleet at earth, and humanity's own best guesses at how long they have left is cut dramatically. Humanity had already predicted they were going to lose the war to the Covenant within a few years, and the loss of Reach cut that to months.
      I mean I feel like you could work this in still, and it would make the game that much more dramatic raise the stakes: instead of spartans going on a bughunt for covenant on a bunch of farms, they're tracking down covenant spec ops teams trying to undermine the orbital defenses from the ground. Humanity is outnumbered, but the orbital defenses are key to turning the tide as the Orbital MAC guns crush covenant cruisers like soda cans. UNSC ground forces were caught with their pants down preparing civilian evacuation efforts while Noble team rushes around trying to put out multiple fires.
      Maybe instead of characters just getting sniped during cutscenes or going on a suicide mission to push a button they're lost in a heroic last stand to defend the generators for the orbital guns. After the guns fall silent and the covenant destroy what remains of the UNSC fleet while a few limp away and the Pillar of Autumn flies off to Halo CE, hope leaves the planet. You fight to get what civilians you can onto evac craft before the final, ultimate mission to venture into the titanium mines and destroy whatever forerunner crap the covenant are hunting for, or maybe just an effort to turn the destruction of Reach into a phyrric victory for the covenant.

    The books explain the armour lock on several occasions, in great detail. Its like a well timed airbag to kick in just before impact, which relies on not only MJOLNIR shields, but all of the suit's systems to work in conjuction with the help of AI. Even then, it wasnt a guarantee of survival, but a best chance.
    I always thought that the Engineer in ODST was trying to get the Rookies' help and attention by simulating Dare's voice since it found her helmet, and it was a way to communicate with the team. Unfortunately, it got shot and killed before it could be understood of its intentions.
    (It probably knew that the humans were the reclaimers and wanted to get help in removing the fail-safe explosives on it that the Covenant wires them up to).
    Ive never aeen the timeline on Johnson, but im sure its just am oversight on accuracy since Bungie grew to a large developer, and who knows how much content was cut from the game story-wise, to meet deadlines. Perhaps project Orion was actually just Sgt Johnson cloned a bunch of times since he was the best of the best before the Spartan-II project.
    I always figured that they had to get Dr Halsey off of Reach for the books, and more stories to be written with Jun. I cant remember if they were both written into the events of the Thursday War trilogy of novels... its been quite some time. But i do recall that they were rescued by S-II Kurt Ambrose and some other Spartan-IIIs that escaped Onyx.

  • @notarealfirstnamenotareall746
    @notarealfirstnamenotareall746 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Really all these problems can be solved through one simple theory. Sargent Johnson is the OG Spartan. He was a Spartan I, and his enhancements allowed him the ability to move through time and space as needed.
    Dares pod? She was about to be captured before Johnson showed up and saved her. In the process he closed the door behind her because he's a gentleman who knows what the ladies like.
    Could chief have saved Miranda? Yes, but without her dying Chief wouldn't have been able to finish the fight. He needed that extra push.
    The sniper? The leftover gravitational pull from Johnson's badassery pulled it halfway across the city.
    Johnson is Chiefs dad. How else could chief have been a pretty cool guy who kills aliens and doesn't afraid of anything.
    The Halo timeline branches because Johnson can travel through time and space. That's the same reason that he appears to be in multiple places at once. He's never actually died. He just moves to another timeline when he's about to.
    The grunt is just Johnson's pet covenant. It is there to help, but at Johnson's behest. That's why you don't see him until after Johnson 'dies'.
    Noble team gets split up because Jun and Johnson were taking enough heat away from the rest of noble team. Without Johnson eliminating entire armies six would not have been able to save Cortana.
    The heretic actually got his information from Johnson, and was there to plant seeds of doubt in the Arbiter. Without him acting that way, the Arbiter would have been more lost when the prophets betrayed the elites, and wouldn't have succeeded in the end.
    Chief smells good because he is Johnson's son, and therefore can't smell bad. Because even the brutes like the smell of badass.
    Noble six manages to be fine not because of the reentry kit, but because Johnson caught him. Until Johnson shows up, Chief is armor locked. Only Johnson can unlock Spartan armor.
    The gravemind doesn't fight the chief and Arbiter because Johnson scared him away. Even the gravemind who can take over the entire galaxy is afraid of Johnson.
    It's not called Halo 6 because Johnson hasn't shown up with the sixth Halo ring yet.

    They show it off pretty hard too in one of the trailer/cutscenes where they follow the process of acquiring and augmenting the Spartan II's. At one point we see its night and Halsey cannot sleep. So she walks to the sleeping cabin/pods that all the kids are in at that point with the light in one cabin still on. We see a close-up of Halsey's freckled face and then immediately cut to John's freckled face with similar facial features, while John cant sleep just like Halsey.
    This could also add some more to why all the Spartan II's call her "mother", she couldnt be a mother figure to just one of the children, that would be suspicous. So she had to be mother to all of them*.
    It also makes a bit of sense that she would know more about the genetics of her next of kin and find a recruit among them. She also thinks she is creating the next step in human evolution, so including family makes sense from her perspective despite the risks.

    I think perhaps the engineer opened Dare’s pod. She got out and took her helmet off thinking maybe the floaty purple guy was friendly? Then got attacked by other covenants. Her helmet got damaged after dropping it while fleeing or getting to cover. She either ran away or killed the enemies (don’t remember if there are dead bodies around the pod).
    At this point she had no way to contact Buck or the rest of the team. She got to where she was initially heading and found some gear (her headset) to communicate with Buck. However it was you (recruit) who was the closest and who received her message and found her in the lab.
    So maybe the alien you find holding her helmet was the one that helped her escape. She went off coms bc of that. I also doubt she would voluntarily put Buck in unnecessary danger by calling him to a fake pod. She had her helmet on while dropping regardless. Plus she did sound extremely sincere when telling Buck she was stock and covenants were on their way.
    This would explain why the pod closed intact and why the engineer had her helmet. But really her pod being closed was more just for the suspense of finding the pod empty more than making sense.
