The city leaders are very supportive of it, and the deal will most likely be approved by them in the summer. 2 weeks ago, the city just approved $10M to get started on the stadium's construction design and engineering services, which is a big step in the negotiations. As a Jacksonvillian, I'm all for it! Personally, I'd like to see them temporarily play at the Daytona Speedway cause it's closer and a straight shot down I-95, but I'm not opposed to Gainesville or Orlando.
Me living in Jacksonville, it would be awesome for this renovation to happen. Main reason I hope this renovation happens. If you live in Jacksonville and been to the stadium plenty of times like me, you'll agree with me on this. With it being an open stadium, Sitting in the heat at this stadium is very miserable.
This is not up for a referendum. It's just a negotiation between the city and Shad. Once they have an initial agreement, the city council will vote for it.
Stop saying "the Jags already are playing two games in London". One Jags 'home' game at Wembley; one Buffalo 'home' game at Tottenham....Not hard to understand...
Hey. I don't say this to be rude, but make sure your info is right when you comment some people will eat you up for it I'd like to put you on game. Tottenham is actually in London. It's an area of London. Kind of like How Brooklyn is in NYC. London itself has 17 Professional Soccer teams in the city, and 7 of those play in the Premier League.
I hope the Jaguars stay in Jax. I hate to see smaller markets like Oakland, San Diego, and St. Louis lose a team. I expect whatever happens to Everbank to be a step above Hard Rock Stadium. And then Tampa will try to one up Jacksonville when they renovate RayJay. Edit: This is an opportunity for the Jags to grow their fanbase in FL. They should play "home" games at Camping World, UF, FSU, and even the Daytona International Speedway during the renovation.
City of Oakland and San Diego should have provided the public dollars needed to get new stadiums..so both city lost the teams. Nfl will come back around but it be by the 2030
@@sirchi8731 I could see the Chargers going back to San Diego under new ownership (especially with LA's relationship with pro football), but Oakland won't have an NFL team ever again. And it seems public funding for stadiums as a whole is a dying practice. Moving forward, owners are going to have to partner with investment groups and real estate developers to get their stadiums built.
St. Louis is not a small market. It’s about the same size as Minneapolis St. Paul. They have a 3 plus Million Metro Population. They deserve an NFL team more than most.
It will get done and submitted to the NFL Owners in Oct. Jags will play with the lower bowl (40k capacity) open in 2026 and move games to alternate location in 2027. New stadium will open for 2028 season.
It’s most likely gonna happen it’s just not in writing yet, City has already been approving money for the engineering and design. Theyre just getting the the exact financials down
Unless they want to move to London there are very few cities to move to. It’s an empty threat. Let them pay for it on their own dime taxpayers are tied of it.
I don't know how the situation at 121 Financial Field or the stadium at UNF would work. I mean would visiting teams really want to play in a minor league stadium?
One crane is on-site and more are coming at Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan’s project to build the team’s headquarters office building and the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences along the Northbank riverfront. Also, The Miller Electric Center opening this past season and the training / office complex for the Jacksonville Jaguars
Is there capacity requirements for the Super Bowl? Hope they got the hotel requirements fixed from last time. There’s some tight walkways that can have a lot of bottlenecks occur.
Theres definitely enough Hotels now on top of the Four Seasons to be built near the stadium for the big wigs to stay. If not the super bowl.. definitely CFB playoffs, Draft or combine
When Soldier Field was being renovated in the early 2000s the Bears played at the University of Illinois two hours south. Orlando is about the same distance from Jacksonville, it’s the obvious choice. It has a capacity right on par with the average NFL stadium, it’s not super modern but it looks perfectly fine for a temporary venue (way better than the Bears playing at U of I, I’ve been there, it’s definitely not up to NFL standards). Teams have settled for way less in terms of temporary venues, the Chargers at the Stubhub Center, the Oilers/Titans playing at Vanderbilt, the Commanders playing at FedEx Field just in general (that last one is somewhat a joke but also somewhat serious). They need to just bite the bullet and play in Orlando, not say “oh our fans will complain if they have to drive two hours south”. If that’s such an issue, Amtrak runs between Jacksonville and Orlando, use this as an opportunity to expand service there.
I just wish the residents of the city that are opposed to it, realized how much money this stadium would bring the city. Shad Khan is never moving the team.
I am surprised that the deal for a renovation of the stadium does not include the fact that the jaguars play ALL their home games in the stadium and not the two a year that they do now. I know if I was a voter in that area… Which I am not… Part of an agreement would be that all home games would be played in Jacksonville with the exception of the NFL international games but every third year or so. I can’t see spending that much money for renovation and basically allow the team to play a quarter of their home games elsewhere.
The Jags only play one game in London. The only reason they played two last year was because the Bills had their London game the week after ours. So it was a home and away situation for the Jags.
The ultimate solution is to address the issues they have to use their own money they ether need to get the funding or just deal with the stadium for now.
Anyone familiar with Jacksonville’s inability to build anything other than wood framed apartments should agree that this will NEVER happen. The deal WILL fail and the Jags WILL move to another city once their current lease is up. Don’t hold your breath if you actually believe this stadium is a reality.
