That has nothing to do with how lazy or not lazy the workforce is. The market simply sucks right now, and the reason the businesses are failing is because it sucks, not because people are lazy at all. At least speaking from the engineering side of college, people aren't lazy, and the colleges teach what is expected for the course. It just is so annoying because I feel like pursuing a gender studies degree these days would give me more prospects than engineering. Most of the grants and internships are gender/race based, so while maybe 10% of the people in engineering are women, they would get at least 50% of the internship spots (as equity requires). Some companies do this as well in their hiring practices, because HR is largely women, and so female applicants get an upper hand in computer science. Sorry for jumping at you like that; I just hear the "this generation is so lazy" line so incredibly often that I got a bit angry. Cheers
America is the land of opportunity and freedom not comfort and security. There aren’t many things I like to label as “anti-American values” but a merit based immigration system is one of them. Quite literally the quintessential American value is anyone regardless of creed, origin, religion, etc can come and compete to prove themselves. Yes. You have to compete against others. Step up just like they are. DEI is dumb but heavily over stated in how much it deprives of opportunity. Quite blaming the world around you. We can dismantle DEI and pursue a competitive American economy. Or did you not realize what ‘America first’ meant? It means we bring all the best talent, business, and people here who are willing. It is not an isolationist policy regardless of what left wing outlets tried to push it as.
If our skilled labor can't hold up to competition coming in from third world countries, then what does that say about the talent we're cultivating? Settling for mediocrity is America first? Apparently you people are quick to basically turn into socialists under the right conditions.
I'm a grad student pursuing a stem PhD at a large state university (one of the ones still in the CFP). It is unbelievably difficult to get into these programs as an American, I only got into one of the schools I applied to. It's not even worth the effort to apply to the top universities as an American, you are almost guaranteed to be rejected. Roughly 80% of the other students in my program are either Indian or Chinese, and probably fewer than 10% total are Americans. I'm currently observing this trend spread to the undergraduate programs as well. It's simply false that there aren't enough Americans qualified for these high tech industries; Americans just aren't being given a chance.
I can sympathize with your issue but the inherent racism in the university system is a separate issue that definitely needs to be addressed. Trump can start by pulling funding.
I assure you (having been through grad school in a STEM field in a pretty famous school in the upper midwest) it is not difficult at all. Domestic students have an advantage in admissions inherently--it's just that the truth is the GRE scores required (as well as past research experience as an undergrad) are simply higher for international students. There is absolutely no DEI in my field as it is a field where one cannot "pretend" to know what they are doing (i.e. we have maybe 60+ in my year, no blacks, no hispanics, half are Chinese, yes, and the other half come from everywhere, including the US) So this depends on what you think "qualified" means. If you want the students with the highest aptitude who are most likely to do well, then America does need to import them. But if "qualified" simply means good enough to do the job properly if given enough resources to graduate, then OK, I see your point.
Well thats why he is in DOGE not immigration, people are entitled to their opinions even if they are stupid. If Elon fixes the budget and he can do his job, who cares?
You exaggerate the impact Vivek has had and this will absolutely ruin him. He just looks like he was trying to get into power to benefit himself. Bad look for Elon too.
Elon thinks he can run the show because of how much funding he provided Trump and Republicans, and that's not how it's supposed to work. Hope Trump puts him in his place
Because it matters, and because has a ton of influence in the incoming administration that isn't limited to his job description. Not that him having a bad opinion is the end of the world, but if he's trying to push this kind of thing already, it needs to be shut down before it worms its way into the ears of the wrong people.
I thought the whole point was to put America First and American workers first. I like Elon and appreciate the ways in which he's helped out but this just sounds like a way to undercut American workers, which I don't like. And could result in Democrats getting more power in the next elections also cause they'd just be able to point to this
Putting America first was never about stopping all immigration. Trump has literally said since 2015 that he wants people to come in but based on merit. So I don't know where you're got the idea that bringing in people with actual talent makes America weaker.
It is exactly lik ehow Milton Friedman once explained: business owners want freedoms for others like anyone else, but they also want special privledges from the government, like a tariff from congress or cheap labor. Why are people surprised that a businessman wants a free lunch for his business? This is why Trump did not put Elon in charge of immigration.
Musk is in a powerless position (DOGE is just a committee invented out of thin air), all he can do is make suggestions. So Elon isn't really in charge of anything, Trump can just pick and ignore what he chooses from DOGE.
If the media keeps blabbering about Elon being the "prime minister" or "the real president" Trump will be affronted enough to make sure it doesn't even look that way. Elon's got some good ideas, certainly his companies do amazing things, but yeah he can take a seat when it comes to running the country.
We need to call these jokers out on it, and support the politicians that support not only putting limits on H1-B visa but making it ***harder*** to attain so companies can hire _domestic_ talent.
That’s been my experience too. As a dev manager I was forced by the execs to lay off our best dev. Now instead of planning and contributing to features myself I spend most of my time fixing really dumb mistakes from our remote team. I’d leave but the market is so bad right now there isn’t much I can do but make the best of it
The reason they aren't saying to increase how many O1 visas is because there already is no cap on it. There aren't enough people at the top of the field to actually substantiate having a cap
Elon has a chance to do a lot of good work with his doge but I don't think that he should take the liberty of thinking that somehow he should be involved in every aspect of governance
American citizens come first! There is a lot of great American's out there that just need a little support and can become amazing Engineers, Doctors, Scientists you name it!
The reason he is not talking about O1 visas is because there already is no limit to the number of O1 visas handed out! If you make an O1 visa, you get it, there is no lottery.

This isn't about getting the best people. This is about getting cheaper workers who he and other CEO's can easily control dangling Visas over more peoples heads instead of paying Americans more. If you call yourself an American company but you can't make a profit by paying Americans, maybe you should go out of business or move to a different country.
My thoughts on Vivek. We’ve been doing just fine with out Indians and we will continue to do so. And our culture is our own. You don’t get to change it.
I think that he was referring to our working culture l, which indeed needs to change, we should take a look to the Japanese working culture or the pre woke German working culture
@@chucknorris6640Wrong. Only thing that needs to change is making cost of living as cheap possible to transfer leverage from employers to employees. Not to mold things to be exclusively better for employers.
Basically the goal should be to make things less competitive in the job market which forces employers to bend the knee. For example less competition = more likely for employees to quit which in jobs where you'd want turnover rates to be low, would transfer leverage to employees. People are more likely to quit unfavorable situations when they feel comfortable to do so. So for example when the job market is rough, people are more likely to bite the bullet and stick with their situation. It's all based on leverage. Lowering the supply of job seekers/workers = employers would have to create greater incentives to attract talent (meaning more pay, lower barrier to entries, more willingness to train, and less cutthroat job culture i.e. rough hours which in turn means less stress which means higher birth rates, less divorces which means less kids raised by single parents, etc.). Cost of living affects that because lower cost of living = less people willing to work because there's less of a need for multiple incomes to stay afloat. Less cutthroat society also means less mental health issues which means lower demand for drugs/alcohol (and less demand for drugs means less power for cartels). Most problems in societies are related to cost of living which is to say the ease to survive. Positive and negative feedback loops. Easier to survive auto fixes issues in societies which also means less tax payer money being used for "social programs". Most people (especially democrats) can't think this far ahead though (since they think the solution to most problems are more taxes).
The issue and tone deafness of Vivek’s comments degrading our culture is that there has been a lack of ambitions in thanks to our backstabbing government sending jobs to foreigners skipping qualified Americans. It’s created a demoralized spirit, the point of Trump was to restore our jobs back, not to take more away! Those jobs are the last bit of the middle class jobs we Americans could rely to be available for qualified Americans. To fix our “culture,” start by not being condescending while taking away more jobs! This culture he is mocking is the culture that managed to fight the most powerful empire at that time as only fleets of farmers and traders with little discipline in the army, its that spirit that had the grit to survive the frontier when expanding the nation, and its the intelligence and resources used to be the one country that has sent man on the moon! And we Americans still have it, and we’d like to prove we have it, but we are done being patient with this gaslighting!
Its sad what happened with Vivek. I agree with him on a lot of things but he's basically thrown away his chances at the presidency with todays comments.
@ Idk if he’s a full on grifter tbh, just because i’ve seen videos of him in college talking about these things back then too. His chances were always slim because of his religion & race sadly. If he’s completely authentic, he’d be great. We’ll see.

@ we have 2 years to govern. Mitch Mconnell and his gang are the ones to focus on. Attacking Elon is a waste of energy. Give the man his engineers and move on. This doesn’t affect the working class base. Plus Trump already made a deal with these guys in exchange for support. The game is the game.

I actually have a close friend who works at Tesla and he had to be sent to oversee operations briefly in Thailand, not because he was the most qualified (he was entry level fresh out of college) but because he was the only non-visa in the entire department, only he possessed the necessary passport to travel to the operation and back. The only people who should even be remotely considered for a visa are nobel price contending, top 0.01% phd level applicants. Even then I think we need a 5-10 year moratorium given how bad the tech job market is.
you dont have to qualify every statement saying you like elon. elon and trump are means to an end. we elected them to do the job we want. if they don't, they don't get our support. simple as that.
I’d say just gut out the education and restart again, have basic K-8 grade but high school focus on trade or getting them into universities earlier. Looking back I felt like high school was such a waste or at least my college was a waste, when I had to repeat so many of the mandatory subjects even though I aced them. I also think we should promote working age to be you get, I’d say between 12-15 where they can have a minimum wage job to learn basic discipline. The academics have been hijacked and it’s not working but it’s purely broken, and the only way to fix it is to restart. Btw this is coming from a millennial, I truly think the lack of getting kids exposed to the basics of a job has been a detriment to the younger generations to be able to adapt to the work environment. The experience needs to come around this age as they are at the beginning stages of developing their personality and finding out what their skills are, imo it’s cruel to expect these kids who don’t have the training to be shoved out without the knowledge of how it works. Most of these classes are focused on passing curriculums than skills that can help these kids stand out to be an attribute to a potential work environment. And it teachers them discipline! It teaches them that you have to earn to get what you want. Might sound old fashioned, but it should be a foundation to keep our country’s work culture to be healthy.
At some point we need to have a formula for these quotas whether visas or guest workers or residencies or merit based systems and also legislations on closing any loopholes!!!
I can see why Elon says that, the majority of workers at Tesla are probably H1-B. If H1-B were gone, it probably would put Tesla out of business (my guess)
Most of the Indians I have met are amazing hard working businessmen. Good people. That said this is the exact problem that got is in this scenario. No we need to cultivate work here. We need to stimulate the American mind.
You took a written statement from Vivek and straw manned the shit out of it. If you read the statement as written, you would have nothing critical to say about it.
X is basically becoming a platform for Elon to announce what he wants and then have his yes men support everything he says and try to influence everyone else.
The whole "Americans aren't skilled enough to fill our top roles" argument is what other companies use also. While this may be true, our frustration is a combination of: A. They should be hiring Americans regardless and spending money to train them B. They want to pay foreigners less than what highly skilled Americans would demand C. If highly skilled roles get filled by foreigners who will work for less, there is less incentive for Americans to build their skills, so it's a negative loop. I read someone post recently online that these tech companies' Grand Plan is to use Americans to train foreigners, then use foreigners to train AI, then lay off nearly everyone so they barely have to pay for any employees at all.
we have many American who can be trained to do these jobs, there so many American looking for way out dead ending mean less job but collage isn't right and they might not want or can start a business.
If there is an actual provable need, increase H1B that year, do not take the limits off, that would be absurd. This must be a case by case choice, even for the best of the best.
I don’t think people can argue with that, I don’t think people are opposed to case by case basis, but we need to put the breaks on prioritizing foreigners over Americans who can do the job and want the chance. My concern is that Trump is supposed to help restore the lower middle class jobs, yet here some of his team members want to take away some of the core middle class jobs to foreign workers, and it’s a question to ask do they really want to help bring back the middle class or are they just assisting the establishment of making the final blow to end it? When we lose that middle class, we lose the meaning of our country for opportunity. It will be the equivalent to socialism. There is no middle step to get from the bottom to the top, unless you’re now part of the new category: foreigner. The freaking irony. Traded DEI to continue to be passed over all while being condescended to we don’t have a good work culture. 😑
You have Musks' argument wrong, it's that every country gets the same number of h1b lottery tickets, regardless of their population, so countries like India have 11 year wait lines, whereas countries like Lithuania have no line. Musk is advocating to have the number of h1b lottery tickets correlated to the h1b country's population.
Just a friendly reminder that in the aftermath of World War II, the US government brought roughly 1600 German scientists and engineers under Operation Paperclip. A notable example is Wernher von Braun. Keep in mind that this was after the Manhattan Project, which was instrumental in defeating Japan.
@@JingleJangle16 Millions per year? Really!?! Where did you get that number? I'm not talking about the mostly unskilled economic migrants that have been crossing the southern border illegally btw. Let's not conflate the two.
The issue is that the lower middle class is already crushed as it is, the point of Trump is to restore the middle class, not further escalate the whole middle class from being wiped off! America FIRST.
Yes but that is a kind of small-scaled government specialized project for a specific purpose. Now I'm usually the type of guy to say the government is corrupt and free business is better every time, but this is one of the few exceptions. The corrupt businesses are not treating it like the Manhattan Project. They aren't trying to hire foreigners because they can do the task better than anyone else, they're hiring them because it's cheaper. Granted, some businesses might use the system to hire just for the talent, but we don't have a way to stop what most businesses are doing which is what I first said. And according to some people in other comment sections who worked for these companies, they proved that it was for the money and not for the skill. Because they would need to hire people and have CRAZY high standards for the Americans to get them out of the way, and then when it came to the H1B workers, they would conveniently lower their standards.
Get the best in the brightest in and the trouble makers out. Our education system needs to get on track making STEAM superstars to produce in the coming generation.
Your government and leftists are doing everything they can to stop this. Your government gets bribes from countries like India and China to hire their labor over Americans. There is no incentive to better Americans. Has been that way since the 1960s.
Trump’s opinion seems to be the same. He has said we need the best and brightest to come here and help build tbd new American Dream. This country’s space program would be a humiliating failure if not for the work of Elon Musk, a legal immigrant with big ideas and the drive to bring them to life. He has stated often that he supports legal immigration with the caveat that they are skilled and talented and that they will fully assimilate into American culture. These are the top 1%. Simply being American won’t cut it all the time. In the fields of high tech and science, we need to farm the best talent wherever we can. If we start educating our kids right from now on, we may be able to retake the positions in 20 to 30 years.
big tech hiring manager for over 20 years. the reason foreign grads are hired over native americans is: - people work for 2-3 years in their own countries before coming to the US for graduate school, so fresh grad students are 3 years more experienced (and older) than the native graduate student grads. _ people in other countries like China have schooling that is much more focussed on gettin them jobs when they graduate so, for example china college gradues have 2-3 years of top tech company internships already where they were given real projects where as US college grads have clubs and community service and political activism on their resumes when they graduate - from some of teh asian countries for sure there is a stronger work ethic, and it's not just about getting a visa. in asian countries academics and career is EVERYTHING. in US families support children much more in extracuriclar activies and social activities
I went to an engineering/school. Many of them graduated-and had zero idea how to do anything in the real world. They had no real life engineering-experience. A lot don’t use their degrees. I wish we could change this for grads.
Well, I warned everyone about Kennedy and Ramaswampy all year. I didn't see this with Musk but we all have to remember, he is on the spectrum. And if I wanted better engineers with superior work ethics I'd be looking to Japan and the Japanese, not India.

@@MathiasMartinWRthis is only speaking on the work-visas. As far as I’m aware. Not actual Imm/policy.
Elon Musk thinks we're stupid. This is America Last.
Your king?
If our skilled labor can't hold up to competition coming in from third world countries, then what does that say about the talent we're cultivating?
Settling for mediocrity is America first? Apparently you people are quick to basically turn into socialists under the right conditions.
@@Red_Ryan_Red never was. he's a grifter who hopped on the bandwagon once people saw how popular Trump was becoming.
Elon Musk thinks we're stupid, and judging by US academic standing in the world he is quite correct.
Exactly the same in Australia
I can sympathize with your issue but the inherent racism in the university system is a separate issue that definitely needs to be addressed. Trump can start by pulling funding.
They pay more
I assure you (having been through grad school in a STEM field in a pretty famous school in the upper midwest) it is not difficult at all. Domestic students have an advantage in admissions inherently--it's just that the truth is the GRE scores required (as well as past research experience as an undergrad) are simply higher for international students. There is absolutely no DEI in my field as it is a field where one cannot "pretend" to know what they are doing (i.e. we have maybe 60+ in my year, no blacks, no hispanics, half are Chinese, yes, and the other half come from everywhere, including the US)
So this depends on what you think "qualified" means. If you want the students with the highest aptitude who are most likely to do well, then America does need to import them.
But if "qualified" simply means good enough to do the job properly if given enough resources to graduate, then OK, I see your point.

I believe the true problem is not the limitation of the H1B VISA, the problem is the so many loopholes and manipulations in the H1B VISA processing.
If the media keeps blabbering about Elon being the "prime minister" or "the real president" Trump will be affronted enough to make sure it doesn't even look that way.
Vivek was a grifter who got 3% of the vote. What chances?

Americans FIRST!
american it workers need jobs!!!!!!! no more slave labor
Then maybe let American students have it easier to get into university to study these subjects
As well as increasing employer training and apprenticeships.

Well let me tell you. There is no republican and democrat. There are the rich oligarchs and everyone else.
I agree DG
we have many American who can be trained to do these jobs, there so many American looking for way out dead ending mean less job but collage isn't right and they might not want or can start a business.
If there is an actual provable need, increase H1B that year, do not take the limits off, that would be absurd. This must be a case by case choice, even for the best of the best.
100 percent correct
The insanely wealthy businessman cares more bout lining his pockets than the country? Who would have thought!
No, the more highly intelligent and highly motivated people come to America, the more the economy will benefit.

- people work for 2-3 years in their own countries before coming to the US for graduate school, so fresh grad students are 3 years more experienced (and older) than the native graduate student grads.
_ people in other countries like China have schooling that is much more focussed on gettin them jobs when they graduate so, for example china college gradues have 2-3 years of top tech company internships already where they were given real projects where as US college grads have clubs and community service and political activism on their resumes when they graduate
- from some of teh asian countries for sure there is a stronger work ethic, and it's not just about getting a visa. in asian countries academics and career is EVERYTHING. in US families support children much more in extracuriclar activies and social activities
