Thank you for the video. Glad you got to the bottom of it. I wonder if the previous incorrect fluid contributed to the degredation of the steering rack seals.
Thanks for the video Ste, I am having the same problem with my 2014 si4, the pump was replaced about 6 months ago and has been working fine, so I will check the fluid and strainer first and hoping its not the rack!
It was the rubber seals in the steering rack had failed but the bits of damaged seal blocked the filter in the header tank. To further complicate it I had put a new pump on that was faulty so I had to refit the original pump.
I'm more bored than before too long winded and too many gizmos for the general guy in the street. Why be so technical. Don't make sense. Joe blogs don't have test equipment or pressure gauges. Got to the end of your long winded video and still scratching my head. Take it to a decent garage is best option.
Surprised you made it to the end if you didn’t understand it. There is plenty of videos out there for Joe Blogs. Change this, change that, change the other. Fill the bin with a load of things that didn’t fix it.
Super video, very informative. Thank you.

I read somewhere there was a manufacturing defect for 2007/2008 where they did not clean out the swarf properly.

Hi. Would you know how item 4 gets separated from item 8, its some kind of push fit.
ste..did you have to replace the feed and return hose and the rack to the pump hose as well
no all my hoses were ok
I'm assuming you are an engineer? Did you fix the issue?

Ahh so you just want a quick fix so take it to a dealer so they can change everything an rip you off for it.
