  • Doing a makeover on a model which requires a two tone paint scheme, has a painted windscreen, a broken tow hitch and is showing the years of neglect is one thing, but doing two in one makeover is....errrr....two things?!
These two vehicles were quite the challenge and I had to try my best to overcome each hurdle that was presented to me. One of those hurdles was near to the end when I had to strip both models back to the metal due to failed paint jobs! - Sometimes I feel like giving up, but I always remember the joy of finally finishing a model and realising that I have won another battle.
Some of you may notice a subtle change, I have a new camera. I recorded everything in 4K vision but it was going to take so long to render and upload the massive files that they would not have been out before midnight here in Australia. That is my deadline and , as always, I was panicked towards the end thinking that I would not make it. I hope you all can appreciate how stressful this hobby can be but that the rewards are well worth it.

Marty. Don’t rush for our sake. Enjoy what you are doing and have fun. That way we have fun too. If it becomes a chore for you, it’s no longer fun for us. Do it for you first and foremost. Love the makeover!

The ONLY Matchbox I owned as a youngster was the Lilac Caddy (I collected Dinky)! It was a "gag" gift from a favourite uncle. Thanks for the trip into my past, and thanks for another terrific restoration!

Marty, you say you’re not a professional and I would have to disagree. Your videos and the work you do on these models are some of the best original restorations that I have come across. I’ve seen most of the videos that you’ve posted and watched several other people try to restore matchbox and hot wheels cars, and I think that the work you do is some of the best I’ve seen if not the best. I would be honored to have one of the models that you have restored. If I had a vintage Leslie I would definitely send it to you to restore. Don’t underestimate yourself and keep on restoring these vintage models for future generations to enjoy.

We never stop learning. My dad died last year 2 months short of his 84th birthday. I moved the small town where he was living to help him out a few years before. He was an avid cook, as am I. Anyway my point is. I made a couple dishes he had never even heard of before, and loved them.

Hi Marty, those two were really a challenge. What with the globs of paint everywhere, the manufacturing of the two new tow bars, and working with custom blended metallic paints, you did, as always, a magnificent job. And you are so nice, using items and suggestions from viewers, that more than once have been very disastrous. You're a good man, Marty. Thanks for another entertaining video. Sorry you are under the weather. Hot toddy time. See ya next time.

Excellent work as always! As someone who works on full scale auto resto, I thought you might give a small scale try of one of our larger scale tricks. Auto transmission fluid has in it chemicals that are designed to bring back some of the life in the rubber seals found inside those kinds of transmissions. It might be interesting to try it out on a couple of the tires in your restorations. Sure makes large rubber parts in a car's engine compartment look new and also brings back some of their suppleness. Might make for another good trick in your collection of good tricks! Thanks for doing these vids. I really enjoy watching how you bring them back!

Marty. You always do a terrific job. That washer idea gave me the idea of drilling out a beer bottle cap small enough for the axle to fit through, while leaving enough metal to cover the tire and giving you enough metal to hold on to while grinding the axle. I hope I have this idea when I sober up. Cheers.......

Excellent video! As a dentist, I love to see that you’ve discovered another use for my tools. Regarding the ultrasonic cleaner, yes, use just water in the larger chamber as a means to carry the ultrasonic waves to the smaller chamber holding your parts. Only the smaller chamber needs to have any cleaner in it. We use one like that in my office daily. I’m new to this hobby and can’t wait to try my first!

Hi Marty! At the final part of the video you say: "No perfect restoration"... 🤯 Man! ¿Are you kidding? This job probe very challenging task, in fact you take a pair of scrap pieces and turned on an almost 'state of the art restoration' car replicas! 🤩👍 From the very start of this video you show the right way for any modeller: solid reference source, color options análisis and your well known depured technics (plus your personal charming & sense of humour 😉) and Vöila! Your humility about your job it's a eye-catching living part of your Channel, Marty! 😁 Best regards for you & your team (your family)

Absolutely brilliant, Marty, to solve your paint problems on the windscreens, Scale Coat paint and decal remover. I use it on old built ups from the 1960's and '70s to get the paint off . Most of your paint from back then is testors enamel. I've used it on model kit windows also. No damage. Get a couple bottles, And try it out. Get feeling better mate.

I am very glad to see you doing the Muggy weld stuff. I looked into it about a year back and was worried that the Zamack metal would melt while working it. So I didn't buy it. But you really have me confidant to try it myself. Thank you, you're videos are always great and show new things that make me think and then see if I can do similar on my customs.
