- Taken from chapter 11.
In this excerpt, Palpatine speaks to Plagueis in the aftermath of killing his family. Plagueis explains to Palpatine his powers and what he has just done. Plagueis offers to teach Palpatine the ways of dark-side and to become Plagueis' apprentice. Palpatine agrees and is dubbed Darth Sidious by Darth Plagueis.
This is one of the most important events that occur within the Star Wars universe, and that's why I love this book so much.

I’d read Plagueis before I had read the novelization of RotS. I got big chills when Palpatine, in that book, recited (almost) the same ritualistic lines when he made Anakin Vader:
“Kneel before me and pledge you want to join your destiny forever with the order of the Sith Lords.
Then it is done. From now on, the truth of you, now and forever more, shall be…”
I wish it was something in the movies. Such powerful dialogue.
One of THE greatest Star Wars novels of all time.
That music from Empire Strikes back fits very well with Palpatine becoming Sidious.
One of the defining moments of the book. The entirety of Part 1 built to this scene, and was wonderful to experience. I like that Plagueis exhibited a fatherly demeanor to Palpatine at times. As their relationship deepened, I do believe Plagueis cared about Sidious a great deal and fully believed in him. Unfortunately, as Sidious told him in his dying moments, he was far too trusting of someone he knew to be ambitious and cruel. With his death, Plagueis birthed a monster who inflected untold suffering on the galaxy, often for his own amusement. But the scenario where Plagueis lived, and he and Sidious ruled together is one of Star Wars's greatest What-Ifs.
Brilliant dialogue. Shame this can’t be a movie.
When Hego tells Palpatine EXACTLY WHO & WHAT Palpatine is to the core, you can see it pisses him off cause he knows it’s the truth… the force surged through him… he rose in anger but Hego felt it and was like “boy don’t try it”😂😂
Lmao dammit you missed the initial bit when he walks into the room and Palpatine screams like a petulant child:
“YOU SAID SOON! A STANDARD WEEK IS NOT SOON!”
Damask: I was busy. Should i abandon my duties because of the trouble you have gotten yourself into.
I know it is not not the same words but I have most of the lines memorized.
@@vitorpereira9515 “I had business to attend to. Was I simply supposed to drop everything in service of the predicament you’ve gotten yourself into?”
Plagueis roasted him immediately lmao
@@QWEStudios Magnificent my lord.
@@QWEStudiospalpy: well forgive for believing that we were in this together.
Damask: together? How so?
@@mydude8731 Palpatine: Am I not your Agent on Naboo?
This is by far my favorite scene in the book.
And in this moment, Sidious forever joined his destiny with the Sith, and eventually they took their revenge and conquered the galaxy. An amazing moment from one of the best Star Wars books!
The way plagueis inducts palpatine is the exact same way in revenge of the Sith Sidious inducts Anakin even the same lines
5:45 chills!! I can imagine him saying that to maul if he took him in as a secondary apprentice
This is Canon for me!
Me too. This continuity and its stories are so good
I mean it could still be. We haven't seen anything about palpatine's origins in Canon yet.
Same and the rest of the expanded universe. Long live the expanded universe
" I BECAME A STORM, MAGISTER! "
I’m glad Lucusfilms/Disney hasn’t made this book into a wannabe third rate show because they couldn’t handle The priceless lore and details of this beautiful written book
Yes. You ARE a third rate idiot.
Plagueis should of chose Dooku as a apprentice either that or cloned Palpatine because the original one was too much about naked power craving yeah.
Yesss thank you I've been waiting for this one. Brilliant writing and narration.
Long Live the Sith
Excellent book, and still canon as far as I'm concerned. Although it did mess with my perception a bit. I always interpreted Palpatine's story in RotS to have taken place in the distant past meaning Palpatine himself was unnaturally old, having used the midichlorians to prologue his own life indefinitely. I assumed this is why his battle with Mace disfigured him; because the effort of holding Mace off meant he had to kind of drop his guard against holding off ageing, causing all those years to suddenly hit making him decrepit and wrinkled beyond normal old person levels.
The wrinkled face is his true face, the cost of being one with the Dark Side for as long as he has. His previous face is his mask. Plagueis' own true face would have been revealed upon his death.
Long Live The Sith Code 👏🏾
