Darth Plagueis VS Darth Venamis (Star Wars: Darth Plagueis)

This excerpt is taken from chapter 6. Plagueis has sensed a disturbance in the Force. Plagueis suspected that it was a Jedi. However, to his amazement, it turned out to be Darth Venamis, a Sith from the Bith species, who claimed to be Darth Tenebrous' apprentice, which led to combat between them. After defeating Venamis, Plagueis wants to use him as a guinea pig in his Midi-Chlorians experiments by poisoning him instead of murdering him.

The irony here is, he wouldn't take Venamous as an apprentice because he knew he couldn't trust him or lower his guard. But he ended up trusting a complete psychopath that he ended up naming Darth *Sidious* in his place.

The more of the universe I was exposed to, the more ironic I found the Sith. Most every Sith takes an apprentice thinking they'll be able to control them, to maintain their guard, to always have the upper hand, perhaps even believing they'll be the one to bring the Grand Plan to fruition. In the end, almost every one of them fell to their own arrogance, forgetting the very nature of the Sith. Sidious even lays it out for Plagueis before his death. He would not be excused from the Rule of Two, the supplantation of the newer generation of Sith as the apprentice's power supercedes the master's. Even Sidious, for all his power, would fall to his apprentice, if for a different reason, as he lowers his guard, believing himself invincible and his authority absolute.

@@robertstaples3256 Yes, and the thing is that with the Sith, it doesn't matter which incarnation of Sith it is. Ancient Sith, Rule of the Strong Sith, Banite Sith, or the Rule of One Sith, they always end up exactly in the same position. Very few times has it not been that way.

Not really ironic. He didn't take Venamis because Venamis was already well trained in Bane's Rule of Two. He would've never been content with serving as Plagueis' apprentice and abandoning the rule. That's why he was already search for new apprentices before he confronted Plagueis.
Plagueis chose Palpatine because: 1) he was human and 2) because he was brand new to the Sith. Sidious was trained to be Plagueis' equal and was suppose to rule the Galaxy in public while Plagueis ruled from behind the scenes. Plagueis' falling was that he didn't expect Sidious to become a follower of the Rule of Two.

I feel like Sidious was actually one of the very few sith that was hoping his apprentice would succeed him.. “Darth Vader shall become more powerful then either of us!” Isn’t that how Baine designed his order? Seemed like some sith understood and accepted that, and other sith (Plagueis, Tenabris) didn’t want that. But it happened anyways

@@sdaftermath123 Not quite, that quote was clearly yelled out in the spur of the moment and without further deliberation. Furthermore, as proven by the OT and the EU, Sidious clearly intended to rule indefinitely and without a challenge to his power. Given that in the 20+ years the Galactic Empire has been in control, Vader had not yet been successful in defeating and subsequently overthrowing Sidious. That's further proven by the fact that everything following Vader's loss and defeat at the hands of Obi-Wan seems to be pre-planned, premeditated if you will, as if he somehow knew Vader was going to lose the duel against Obi-Wan at Mustafar. Moreover, it's clear that Sidious had made Vader so reliant on him as an authority figure, that even with the opportunity to kill a weakened Sidious during the events of Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison, Vader doesn't even consider killing and overthrowing Sidious. Given all of this, I'd say Sidious merely achieved what Plagueis and Tenebrous could not, have an apprentice who's loyal to his rule and not necessarily obedient to the Rule of Two. That's further proven by the events pf the Dark Empire Trilogy.

The first and last lightsaber fight we know Plagueis fought in. And what a dominant win it was! (against someone who had spent his whole life training to counter Plagueis' style, and someone who knew how to use lightening)

I like how in the beginning Tenebrous nearly had a change of heart and warned
Plagueis about Venamis as he lay dying.
Plagueis looked so loyal ready to "avenge" his Master from the mining company's seeming betrayal that Tenebrous had a moment of fondness or perhaps even compassion for his student, that he seriously reconsidered the test/replacement for him that was Venamis
It shows that even in their own weird way the Sith do care about their students.
The only reason he even trained Venamis was that he thought Plagueis wasn't strong enough or didn't have the guts to eventually try to kill him, because they were a Master/Student pair for over a century at that point (according to the book) so he probably figured Plagues should have tried to kill him at least once by now and if he didn't he was "too weak" to be the Sith Lord that succeeded him

Dooku would of been a better apprentice for Plagueis his potential is higher then most except for Sidious, Yoda, The Skywalkers, The Mereks, The Solos Under Leias Line, Abeloth, And Other Deities of the force note I am talking Legends EU not Canon with CGI Clone Wars And Its Tie Ups. Mauls potential is high too in Legends EU but not compared to Plagueis, Dooku, Palpatine, Yoda, The Skywalkers, Mace, The Mereks, Abeloth, Or The Force Entities yeah.

The Massacre of the Gran was awesome. One of the few times we "see" Sidious really cut loose and go wild with the Darkside, and to think he did that right on Coruscant under the nose of the Jedi lol
