I've mentioned this countless times, but I need to put another comment about it here: I DO NOT Use Music based off of who wins or loses a set. Sometimes my hands are just tied. To illustrate this, I'm gonna go over EVERY Set I highlighted and go over why I chose each song. So SPOILERS For the rest of the video beyond this point in the comment. Zomba vs Marss: ROB Doesn't have any soundtracks in Smash (other than Gyromite, which isn't a good montage song) so I had to use a Metroid song. Marss lost this set, but I picked a Metroid song not for that reason, but rather because Rob simply doesn't have any music. Ddee vs Miya: GNW Doesn't have any OST's good for montages other than Flat Zone 2. Rob and GNW are the two big headaches I have when I pick music. However, Steve ALSO has only 1 good song, Hallard/Dalarnia, to use for montages. It sucks that GNW, Rob, and Steve are so common because all 3 of them have very limited to NO songs I can use. To avoid using Flat Zone 2 or Hallard/Dalarnia (I wanted to use them for other montages), I used a Pokemon song since Ddee swapped to PT for game 2 and 3. Again, I didn't pick the song because Ddee lost the set. I picked it because I had to. KEN vs Dabuz: With this set is SPECIFICALLY used a Mario song because I was trying to avoid using a Sonic song, since KEN lost the set. Neo vs Acola: I was trying to save Hallard/Dalarnia for Grand Finals, but ended up using it here to specifically avoid using a Fire Emblem song, since Neo lost the set and since I could use a different song for Grands from the Mario series. Neo vs Zomba: Again, no ROB songs, so I had to use a Fire Emblem song even though Neo lost the set. I simply had to. Miya vs KEN: Again, no good GNW songs. You could say that I could've used Flat Zone 2 for this set. However, I knew that the next set would be Zomba and Miya, and since Rob has no music, I HAD to use Flat Zone 2 for that set, so I ended up using a Sonic song for this specific set. Zomba vs Miya: Like I explained earlier, Flat Zone 2 was my only choice for this set. Acola vs Dabuz (Winner's Finals): I decided to use a Mario song since I already used Hallard/Dalarnia earlier in the video, NOT because Dabuz lost. Dabuz vs Miya: I used a Mario song specifically here because I had no more GNW songs, but it's okay, since Dabuz won. Acola vs Dabuz (Grand Finals): Same reasoning for Winner's Finals. So, yeah, I do NOT Pick music based off of who wins or loses. Sometimes my hands are just tied. Now, I could avoid ALL OF THIS by just using music that's NOT from either character in the set. I used to do that, just used music from Zelda or other gaming series that had NOTHING to do with Smash. Let me know if I should do that again, because this whole situation and people claiming I'm "spoiling" my video with my music choice is starting to become a MAJOR headache for me.
You say you don't pick music based off of who wins or loses but then I see in your write up "I had to use/avoid X song because Y player lost the set". I'm not following the logic here. Sounds like the outcome of the set is factored into your decision even if it's not the sole point of consideration. I previously thought you usually alternate between a song for the winner and the loser for each montage so I just accepted your strategy. But I do understand the criticism of people who pick up on a pattern and get spoiled in the process. Since a couple previous videos I've watched before as a new viewer, I had the initial thoughts of "is this guy spoiling the outcome with music?". If you're getting this much criticism where you felt the need to pin a write up to defend yourself, know that you'll be compelled to do this again in future videos as your channel grows, acquiring new viewers and receiving echoing criticism. So you have a few options: 1) Do a write up for each video on the decision making of your song choices 2) Abandon ship and don't restrict yourself to the IP/series of the characters you're discussing. 3) Stop giving a shit and ignore criticism regarding your music 4) Put on Arch-Illager any time Acola is on the screen to remind people that he will parry your attacks and crush your hopes and dreams as the final boss of this league. Personally, I'm in favor of not restricting yourself to Smash Bros music as I listen to Smash Bros music on the regular and I swear to god if I have to hear Team Galactic or Team Flare outside of being forced to listen to it when the next top player goes to PS2- I digress. I would see this as an opportunity to be exposed to new music and perhaps peak my interest in a new series. Thank you. Otherwise good analysis video. I didn't see any other videos you made on this tournament prior to it starting so I am a tid tad letdown over the somewhat glossing over Neo's NA breakout performance or the unprecedented 3 Corns in Top 32 butI am a biased Kamui waifu fan, guilty as charged. But really folks, go look for the Neo vs Acola set, that will go down in Ultimate history.
Marss continues to prove hes the hidden boss of smash, whilst Dabuz continues to prove hes a top player lacking the confidence of a top player. Also Zomba is just wow... it feels like Zomba escaped his phase of being toxic/upset with everything and turns every 10 seconds of gameplay into a learning experience. You literally saw the twinkles in his eyes after the games he lost against Ken, what Rob you know is reverse 3stocking/almost reverse 3 stocking top sonics consistently?
probably the best smashcon in my opinion. maybe despite grands but even the really long sets were close and had me at the edge of my seat. hoping to go to smashcon next year
I mean it was a great Smashcon but nothing will beat 2017 when Nairo went on a gargantuan loser's run with ZSS and Bowser to beat all the best players in the world lol
I really don’t want to be that person, but when the rankings were revealed on Friday, many people where angry that Acola was number one instead of Spargo. Consistency is more important than one head to head and Acola is always in top 8 and Spargo has missed 3 this year. Please stop being angry that the best in the world is a Steve.
This. Tournament. Was. Insane. So many nail biters, upsets, close sets, dominant sets. I watched almost all videos and enjoyed them all. I think you could have easily made this video twice as long given the great content from the tournament. Either way, I really appreciate you making these recaps. Keep it up :)
This tournament was so ducking insane. I didn’t check the bracket until the final day and I was like “holy hell. Every top seed, minus Acola, is in the losers bracket or dead. What the hell happened?”
Esam predicted the number of possible upsets too. But my gosh, I don't think anyone could imagine them nearly all happening. That being said, it's just big reminder that anything could happen in these P-tier tournaments. The bigger the tournament, the higher the possibility there's a "hidden boss" and not to mention top players meeting eachother in pools. It was a warzone.😂 Wanted5 was pretty quiet/wholesome in comparison but I really enjoyed how it all turned out.😄
It's been a while since I actually watched a competitive ulti tournament, this was really entertaining, while i didn't personally enjoyed the Steve sets (besides neo acola, that was sick) it was a really hype tournament, Congrats to both dabuz for his amazing placement and acola for winning the tournament, will make sure to watch more ultimate tournaments alongside melee From now on~
Smash Con this year looked like it'd be the tourney of the year with all of the upsets and players being eliminated mad early, but by the end every single person in the venue wanted Dabuz to win; and while there was no confetti for the better player like with Maister, at least a huge part of the crowd all left the venue after Dabuz lost his first stock in game 3

My brother in christ Dabuz has access to the same roster & tools as Acola. If he chooses to not exploit them, that's on him & doesn't discredit the sheer capability & skill of Acola. Everyone's carried lmfao & most mfs don't know mu's properly, to the point where you're still seeing players fight losing mu's at Top-Level, without secondaries.
I have 3 things to say. 1st: Great video. Very polished and enjoyable. This Smashcon has to be one of the best, though i personally dont hink it topped Light's ridiculous loser's run at Fall Fest last year. 2nd: Can we talk about Sparg0, Tweek and Light all not making top 8 😮? And some of them upset by players that didnt make top 8 themselves? So crazy. 3rd: I must admit that i find it very frustrating that Acola and Miya, the top Japan players, who are both just forces of nature in this game, and both seem to be really nice people with great competitive attitudes... Play 2 characters that i simply dont enjoy watching 😢😅. Neo was a breath of fresh air. Im hoping we see him some more, because that Corrin was slick 😎
Steve should be banned for the same reasons we ban stages- if a stage is not conducive of high level professional play then it is banned. If Steve can modify stages to be non-conducive of professional play, then by that logic he too should be banned. Sonic camping is something anyone can do (See Sonix/Ddee at this Smash Con) so it shouldn't be banned. Kazuya, Min Min, Aegis, and whoever are strong in the meta, but clearly can be worked around. If stages are allowed to be edited so easily by one character (which gives an unfair advantage), then why not bring back Corneria or Lylat? Clearly we don't care about the fairness of the stage if we let one character change it so much.
The blocks disappear and can be broken. Steve has bad matchups. Hell, pikas matchup chart is better than Steve's. There is counter play to Steve. You don't have to pick Steve to best Steve, so I don't believe he should be banned
I think Acola is a fantastic player but people aren’t mentioning enough how easy his runs are by not just player but character match ups like compared to everyone else he had the least impressive run it’s the same for him at bobc5

Acola is insanely good but there's a reason why he doesn't win shit without using steve and neither does onin, like, he easily wins 3-0'ing someone who at the very least triples his smash experience and nobody has an issue with it? madness, Mkleo dominated pre-joker just fine, but this influx of very young and less unexperienced players with huge outsets started with steve
Sometimes I wonder what it would look like if all the top players picked up Steve. Would the results go back to what they were before Steve or would acola still dominate?

To remove the issue, just use songs that fit the play (eg faster paced music for smth like Loght vs Marss)
