- Demonstrating winching and haulage with a pair of miniature traction engines owned by a couple of friends of mine.
The larger engine is a 3" scale freelance miniature traction engine named 'Alfred' and has recently fitted a new boiler amongst other restoration work. Alfred is an early miniature engine that was built by a relation of the haulage contractor Cliff James up in the Midlands and any further information on its history would be welcomed.
The smaller engine is a 2" scale Savage agricultural engine. A very unusual model in any scale and little is known about it's prior history. The current owner has restored and recommissioned it as well as repainting it from a rather horrible green and red colour scheme, and it is now awaiting lining and other finishing touches.
These really have a lovely sound to them especially under load...
Very fun to watch, I've just dug out my Durham project again to begin setting it up for a hydraulic, check it holds water. Have a long way to go but the missus spurred me on as she said she'd like to see that one (of many) completed.
Great Engines. That 2 inch is lovely! Just shows the power of steam!
The little 2" Savage is a bit special isn't it! They're both lovely engines, the 3" is a very charming piece of 'old school' model engineering.
@@SteamandThings Yes they are are. I own a 1 inch Minnie traction engine but would love a 2 inch or even a 4 inch one day but will have to save up a bit.
beautifully made engines , a joy to watch
Was tremendous fun too!
@@SteamandThings I bet
I was gonna build a 4 inch garret traction engine
But i prever locomotives
How is your locomotive build coming on?
@@SteamandThings slow

I haven't touched my frames at all
Because i need this thing thats called money
But i am planning to carry on with it on my birthday wich is on the end of the month
Since its 3 1/4 i might be able to complete the tender
@@laaity common problem we all share lol
@@eifionjones559 yep
But a thing someone told me is that once it becomes work thenn just leave it do something else and carry on
