- We went to the Teeny Tiny Town of Elburg. And when I say small I mean really small. Plus I was asked to close the door on a roof of a church to pay for my admission to the church.

LOL you guys are SO cute between Amanda hovering in the background, Chris claiming how late it is, Miles announcing he's trying the syrup, the umbrella that kept hitting Chris in the head....honestly loved ALL of it! Looks like a really fun, adventurous day!
Why is she wearing a umbrella all the time?
I love that you turned this into a positive adventure! I tend to have anxiety attacks when things don't go as planned on vacation, and your positive attitude turned everything around.
The stone cottages are for airflow into the defense wall that is surrounding Elburg. Originally Elburg was a fortified city. Bit of history: Elburg appears in written records in 796 ( but that just means there were people living on that spot hundreds of years earlier. These places being named requires a certain amount of people that are wealthy enough to be taxed or have being part of a lordship).
The defensive moat+ wall was build around 1392-1396. It was also in that period the city got its fishing rights and salt harvest, which made it a rather wealthy city and was incorporated in the "Hansa league" ( also known as the Hanseatic league) which was a whole lot of northern European and western European cities focused on trade ( and because they were spots where specialty goods were created, traded and exported) and because of the insane wealth this league gathered they invested in upgrading the defenses of the cities and villages in their league. So its sort of a defense and trade league. Some important cities in the Hansa League were Lubeck, Hamburg, Bremen (Germany), Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp ( Belgium, just below Netherlands) though loosely aligned they had important hansa offices in their cities. This was the same for London, York, Edingbugh, Sandwish and Dover (UK and Scotland and just like Belgium they were more loosely aligned but had very important trading offices of the hansa), Kiel ( Denmark) major Hansa city, as was Stockholm ( Sweden) and Gdansk ( Poland) to name a few. Its is more nuanced than that with about 100 or so towns and villages that are fully or loosely alligned ( for example like Bruges or London).
WOW!! That is amazing to know! Thank you for sharing this information with us!!! ❤
Neat!
Thank you for that history lesson. It is so interesting. I love history.
Amazing! Thank you for sharing this.
Cool!!!
This may be my most favorite episode of Provost Park Pass ever! I love how you turned what could've been a bummer of a day into such a magical experience. But of course you did, because you have such a positive attitude and adventurous spirit. What a fantastic day!
It would have been hilarious if they had a Tron pinball machine and it was out of service!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
These first two videos should be themed 'What happens when you don't have Getaway Today plan your vacation' :) It's this stuff though that makes family stories that last generations.
Heheh😅
Haha, how fun to see you were in Elburg! I was born very close to that town, so I used to visit regularly when I was a kid so I can shed some light on the little houses.
Those tiny houses and the little windows you filmed are connected to a tunnel system (called Kazematten) that was used as a defense system for Elburg. Back in medieval times, when the city was under attack, these tunnels were used as a bunker. The windows were used to shoot at the enemy, mostly with gunpowder, which came to Europe in the 13th century. The little houses are probably ventilation for these tunnels.
Another interesting fact: the archway you filmed (called Vischpoort, which means fish gate) was used to serve as a lighthouse since Elburg used to be next to the sea. Our Dutch ancestors turned that sea into land with the famous windmills. Walibi is actually where the sea used to be!
I'm so glad that Walabi Park was closed, because this was fantastic! What an amazing little village. That church was gorgeous...thank you so much for taking us in there!
Elburg has a moat around it! That's crazy. Love that the family can experience history like this, that's why I love to travel in Europe as you can next to something that's a thousand years old.
Haha!! That guy probably thought I finally found a sucker to shut that door so I don’t have to do it! In the end you guys were the winners!! Such a great experience!!
This is an experience you will never forget. I love how your family is embracing it with a positive attitude.
Please tell Amanda she is lovely inside and out. Make up or no make up, we love to see her smiling face.
Love that Miles is your backup singer on the finale! 🤗
Amanda is so pretty she doesn’t need makeup! Love your adventurous positive attitudes!
If given the chance the one thing I would visit in the Netherlands would be t the Oversteek Bridge at Nijmegen.
It incorporates 48 pairs of street lights. They light up at a walking speed every night with a Dutch military veteran walking at the same pace that lights switch on.
This is a memorial for the forty-eight US soldiers from the 504th Parachute Infantry Division and the 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion that were killed crossing the river in Operation Market Garden in WW2.
I'm not crying your crying...😭
Thank you for sharing this tradition. Very touching.
That tradition is really impressive. I participated in this ceremony (also for citizens) several times. I live in Nijmegen.
1 gong means 15 minutes past. 2 gongs means 30 minutes past, 3 gongs 45 minutes past. When there are 4 gongs it’s the full hour and after that one go gong for every full hour one
Thank you!!!!!
Hello Chris, Amanda, and Miles. This was a great opportunity to see things you have not seen before. The church is beautiful inside. Thank you for sharing this with us! ❤❤❤
Don't you just love those small European towns? They are like walking into history. Some of the buildings are older than the USA
What a lovely adventure you had. And to think that 80 years ago D day was happening to keep all our freedom.
❤️
👍❤🚢🙏
I love the videos of this part of your trip even though it went sideways on you. Make an adventure out of it! It’s your “Grisswold family vacation” 😅. And the little houses are fairie houses. Did you ever watch the Eurovision movie with Will Farrell?
Hey Provost family.
That’s what family vacation is all about. You make the best of it. My family all live over in the Netherlands. Love Dutch pancakes. Best with butter and brown sugar rolled up. You must try fresh Ollebollen and strop waffles. Hope you sleep better tonight.
Thanks to you and your family for bringing us along Chris. 🌷 What a picturesque little town!
Hey Chris !
Please forgive me but you’ve been cracking me up on this adventure 😂
I’ve been struggling mentally but you’re helping me through!
Thank you❤
Chocomel, the best chocolate milk on the planet.....you need to shake it first tho.
I want to go there so bad just to see a country that prioritizes pedestrians over cars. Riding a bike there seems so fun. And look at the community feel, the peacefulness. All because no cars!
I love all your videos but this unplanned adventure is amazing. I am glad the Universe and your families positivity lead you on this detour to explore the cute little village.
Elburg castle is a gem of the middle-ages and is very large.
The whole terrain there is also hundreds of years old ....
What a wonderful adventure. So glad the park was closed. It was meant to be ❤❤❤
This was great. Many years ago, I lived in the Netherlands and spent 2 months in a city called Zwolle which was not too far from there. What a wonderful travel memory for you.
Please! If you are in the Netherlands, check out the Efteling! A fairytale Themepark and also one of the best theme parks in Europe! 🔥🔥
Tip in the Netherlands: do not walk in the middle of the street although there isn’t a lot of traffic. You do have to watch out for bikes. You probably annoyed them when Amanda was swirving in the background in the middle of the street.
I am in love with that town!!!! That church was amazing and those bells!!!!! Thanks you guys love your family. From our family to yours ❤️
Wow, that church is beautiful. I love old churches, so much history.
Thank you for sharing.
My ancestral homeland. I have great great grandparents born in Holland.
I’m of Dutch descent as well - grew up near Dutch Albany Ny lol
Such a peaceful day!!
Woa
Your video makes me grin like a Cheshire Cat! What a trooper you all are! I’m exhausted watching you😂😂 Glad you found some food, finally! I saw a stock photo of those little houses and it says a “city wall fortified Elberg, fortress” can’t wait for tomorrows video:)
If the resort is empty I’m running. 😂😂😂 I think I was terrorized by my big brothers with scary movies as a child.
You guys are such a joy to watch. I love love love your videos and your bravery and adventurous personalities. ❤
Amanda is still beautiful. Even though she couldn't go in the sun. What a nice village of Elburg
Flexibility and adaptability are the keys to a fun vacation. Being open can lead to experiences that you would have never planned for. Kinda like planning the perfect day at Disney, and your favorite ride(s) are closed! You don’t go home, you go ride something else! Have fun
Loved the Bells and Church.
Beautiful little town
I would probably want to stay
Very nice. I can't wait to see tomorrow's video (filmed today ... most likely) 😆
This trip started like the beginning of a folklore horror movie but things are looking up! Also I learned one should get a small amount of currency because we can not always count on modern technology, especially in teeny tiny towns. Thanks for bringing ups along.
You are just living your best life!
Cheers and have an amazing trip!
This is reminding me of National Lampoon’s Vacation to Walley World. I love how you and Amanda are staying positive and finding things to do together.
Oh Amanda we all love you with or without makeup! Your beautiful smile and fun personality are all the “makeup” you need!
You Kids make even the simplest of places a pleasure and joy. You must come with me if i can ever do the tourist thing .
Looks like a good UV umbrella. We need that.
I can’t believe that put you so far from the check in if nobody is there. So crazy. I loved seeing tge little town you visited and so happy you had a delicious meal 🥰
Chris and Amanda , you guys are such amazing parents showing all these wonderful things to Miles , one day he will be such a good person due to your exposing him to these beautiful and fun adventures
Hello beautiful family. My 8yr old son can't wait each day for new video ❤😂
Neither can this almost 76 year old, wait, that is! Love these adventures! Keep them coming. Oh, be sure to get some ready currency for whatever country you visit! Machines are not reliable! 😊
What an amazing adventure!! Amanda, you are beautiful just the way you are. I'm so happy that you and Miles are sharing this with Chris. You can see the happiness in his eyes and in his voice.
Chris this is the best blog you’ve done - thank you for sharing you never cease to amaze us all by showing how beautiful you are
Very interesting- you made a good day out of it.
By the time you read this, it’ll be night time or you’ll be ready to get to wallaby Park. I hope you have better luck and you guys have a great time . soon as I saw the first video. It seems something out of the twilight zone😂😂😂. Like I said this will be an adventure. I’m glad Amanda and Myles are with you. I hope you guys get some sleep since the bed is a one Z.
What a beautiful little town. I'm glad you could visit.
That's what I call making the best of it!!! Sometimes when things go wrong, it can lead to the best travel memories.
To help you understand the village. Many towns and villages in that area where forts to control river and sea access. The land wallaby world is built in is reclaimed. It was all once the sea. The shape of the square of the town with the water surrounding it is very common for towns from that age. The little houses you say next to the water are guard ports. The hill is hollow with the fort underneath you.
I love that village! It looks like what I remember from over 50 years ago! And even then, when we went into areas like that we felt like we had gone back in time. But I have been puzzled that you're the only ones in the campground in JUNE. As I recall, Europeans loved travel adventures. WE camped around Europe and the campgrounds were busy in May thru September. But that was 55 years ago! Hey! We were up on the tippy top of a church back then too! But then that was a place called the Vatican...and I understand they don't let people go up to the top of the Vatican dome anymore. Oh! And mandeln means almond.
Oh my gosh lol, I just found one of your Efteling videos, loved it btw, and am browsing your videos to find you visited my home town! How cool! My husband and son will be tickled to hear that for a day, they weren't the only Americans in Elburg 😂 Bless you guys, love your positive energy!
What a serendipity adventure. That church was beautiful. Angels watching over your family, for sure! Thanks for the vids!
Btw, those little tiny stone cottages are for the mother-in-law
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh, oh, my son-in-law would agree! Too funny! 😂
Hello! What an adorable village! I love all your adventures. Tell Amanda she is beautiful without makeup.
That was awesome. Netherlands 🇳🇱 is my ancestry on my dad’s side and we are planning a trip there next year. Love that little town and history stuff
That church was stunning. This day of no plans will be the memories that stay with Miles for a lifetime. This might be one of my favorite videos. I thought it was the hotel series. This one won. 💙💚
Another great video by the Provost family!!!
Wow that pancake and omelet looked amazing.
This turned out to be such an awesome and unique adventure. Thank you for taking us with you
So funny you are there. We were nearby in Middelburg for a wedding. We appreciate the challenge to get taxis and transport. Bikes are the king around there haha!
Chris, not only are you a fun tour guide, but Miles is going to appreciate all this one day when he's older and think about all the cool places you guys took him to. We did a lot of midwest little vacations when i was a kid and I think it was cool seeing all that stuff growing up.
Feel better Amanda. Chris and Miles I’m loving this trip you are taking us on with you.
Loving your adventure! So glad you were able to find some food LOL! The bells were absolutely beautiful, thanks for sharing your awesome experiences. Can’t wait to see the theme park!!!!😊
What a fun day it turned out to be for you. Great memories made. 😊♥️
Sometimes the unexpected gives us memorable experiences and visits to places we would never see, love watching your videos and enjoyed this one. Can’t wait for the next one to see inside the park
I hope your second night was better than the first one! Eager to see the rest of your European Adventures! The improvised sidetrips are pretty cool.
Good grief Elberg is the cutest!! It's like a little fairy tale town, and I am so jealous of that pancake and the kipling.
Absolutely loved this video, which was delightful. What a day!
Hi Provost Fam. Amanda, you are an Amazingly Awesome Person who can Brighten any Room with your ❤ and Personality. Chris, with Breakfast, the one container looked like Banana Syrup (???). Thank you for bringing us along on the Euro-Park Pass Trip with the Provost Fam. Remember Chris, Amanda and Miles, you are Awesome and keep having Fun wherever Life takes you. 👋🏻🇨🇦
Thank you so much!!
I don't know much about those fairy cottages, but they have something to do with battles.
So when I went to Tokyo and gone to Mount Fuji I went to this cherry pagoda and it had I think 197 steps so I feel you, but mine were not as winding as yours. Beautiful little town, sometimes its nice to get lost like that in a new place, you never know what you will find. Hope with everything that is closed you still made the most of it.
"We don't know where we're going, but we're doing it." - Chris Provost 🎉🤣
What a gem your family found - such a charming litle village! And I'm SO glad this trip is with the family because whatever happens will be a memorable adventure. Thank you, Provost family for sharing your incredible day with us!
p.s. Did you shake the chocolate water/mulk before drinking it? If you didn't, maybe that's why it was so watery?
That place is adorable!☺️
What an incredible adventure. It made my heart so happy❤❤❤
Beautiful town! That church tower stairway looked a bit closed in for my taste but I'd do it for the view.
OMG, I can see in theory why Amanda booked that cottage...if only things were open!!! I like your style Amanda ❤ The little town you went to was so idyllic! So picturesque...I loved it! Felt like I was right there with you, especially when the church bells were ringing.⛪❤⛪ The view from the very top of the church was so BEAUTIFUL!! Something I'd never be able to do because of my disability, so thank you for fighting those stairs! You should call it the quest for the gold chicken!...lol 🤣 The church, the whole town was absolutely gorgeous! You should name the cat Holland! 😻
First comment keep it going Chris, it’s always a pleasure watching you
(watching the food coming out) Yes, I'll have what they're having....
This reminds me of the camping and cottages at Hershey park but more primitive
That Dutch pancake! I love powdered sugar! We are getting a cafe that will include special needs staff here in my town in SoCal. I hope the food looks this good. What an amazing little town. Love your adventures ❤️
Little towns in the UK are so fun to explore.
Been watching your channel for a while and love the content. Great to see you visit the Netherlands! No clue how you figured out to go to Walibi but hope you’ll have a blast. If you have some time, try to visit the Efteling as well. And if you really want to stretch it, Germany got some great parks right across the border; phantasialan and Europapark (the latter being a but further into Germany).
Hope you have a blast!
The little town was cute. The church was Breath taking. Very old but has history. Enjoy your journey through the town.🎉❤
We always arrive in Europe with at least €100 on us and then use bank ATMs (only BANK ATMs) to withdraw the money we need. Europe doesn't use credit cards as much as we do in the US.
Awesome video, the kibbeling is codfish in a batter and then fried.😋
Hi from The Netherlands ❤
I love this!!!!!!! Thank you!
Would have been epic if the game room had Tron.
Omg Chris!! This is going to be a great trip..again!!!!
I just looked it up: apparently Bungel (which is the sauce that Chris put on his pancake) is molasses~
Well I guess you can now retire and become the CEO of closing doors!😂
He will forever go down in history as the man who closed the door!
This was fun! Thanks! Cant wait for more.
Such a beautiful place! Thank you for sharing your journey.
