  • Today I cover one of the LEGO Hobbit sets released alongside the third movie in the trilogy and important for us fans because this was the only way to ever get Smaug in LEGO.
I like this one a lot too. The colours are really striking here and the playset style conveyor belt like structure is a really fun idea to mess around with. The forge is cool and I think even if you weren’t into Lord of the Rings and Hobbit at the time but you were into LEGO castle, theres enough here to warrant a purchase because it feels distinct from the castle line. I don’t really see other set ideas here when I see this, I just see The Lonely Mountain. Great set overall.

Smaug is a real crowd jewel to me. I'm so glad I bought that set back in the day.

Agreed. Such amazing parts to make a really unique creature in LEGO.

@@RayLilySeries I just really appreciate that Lego took the time to mold special parts to get him as movie accurate as they could with Lego. I'd love to see these pieces return somehow.

I still have this unopened in box. Hopefully will build soon, probably is it stacked somewhere in my tower of LEGO sets will need some effort to take it out

The whole line of Middle Earth is great and I’m really satisfied with the Hobbit line of things too.

I shouldn’t be too surprised but I really am shocked every time I look at the current prices of any Middle Earth LEGO sets. Really was a theme people needed to get at the time of release.

This is the only set I’m most annoyed at myself for missing out on back in the day… I’ll pick it up eventually

I regularly reminded myself that while I may be disappointed I miss stuff nowadays, forever thankful I was switched on back in the LEGO Middle Earth days to know what sets needed purchasing.

@@RayLilySeries for real. 14-year-old me had to decide between getting The Lonely Mountain or The Tower of Orthanc and I ended up going with Orthanc. Sucks that I missed out on the best lego dragon of all time, but I’m glad I managed to pick up almost all the rest of the middle earth sets back in the day

Orthanc is a fantastic choice though
