  • This video shows 3 of my patients experiencing what is now routine after knee and hip replacement. Surgery and then walking, including up and down stairs, hours after surgery and home comfortably later that same day. With careful preparation and technique, almost all patients are now candidates for outpatient, day of surgery discharge. Knee and hip arthritis are common ailments that debilitate millions. Replacement surgeries have advanced such that they are less invasive procedures. Excellent surgical technique and multimodal analgesia allows for comfortable walking immediately, and a recovery that is much better than years ago. I hope you enjoy seeing these 3 patients go through their surgery day's journey with me - Dr Joseph Gondusky (GonduskyMD.com)

@@JosephGonduskyMD Hi, précis: 2 “severe” arthritic knees. 5 weeks tomorrow since first one done. Painless now, 0 degree and 130 degree bend, driving and cut the lawn. NSAID’s are a no no, as I am on Warfarin following an Aortic valve and root replacement 23 years ago INR band 3- 4.5. Had an epidural knee for op and when it wore off, putting load pressure on was mega painful. Coped with paracetamol, (codein has bad constipation effects, so chose not to use), but ouch t’was painful. I am 75 years old and from UK. Not put off though and looking forward to getting the next one done in a few months time. One of the main problems of course has been putting more stress on the unoperated knee. Will look at your video on multimodal analgesia with interest. Appointment to see my consultant at 6 weeks.
