I can't see how you and fellow bloggers can be blamed for dirty camping you always so great respect for the outdoors and leave no trace it's time people took personal responsibility for their own actions
Beautiful video. My husband and I are just getting started with hillwalking and wild camping and we are very conscious of leaving no trace. Channels such as yours are inspiring and helpful and would certainly be a good education for the dirty campers. It's a shame they are not as likely to see these as people who genuinely want to experience and preserve the beautiful country that we live in. Keep up the great videos and thank you again for being an inspiration!
Fantastic Ray, that sunrise was beautiful! There are an awful lot of opinionated folk on the platform at the minute, some of them even trolling, but you shouldn’t have to justify what you do for them. You, like many other channels are very responsible & anyone that feels the need to challenge that can do one 👍

For me, those conditions looked absolutely perfect. The flat bottomed cloud base as far as the eye can see and a morning of even better weather is what it's all about, if you asked me 🤷🏻♂️ I've no doubt TH-camrs and Instagrammers are getting the majority of the blame for 'educating' people about wild-camping even though it has always been there and it certainly couldn't be a result of people not being able to jet off abroad so choosing to do their drinking and partying where they can. It doesn't matter what anyone says or does, there will always be someone looking to apportion blame and there will always be those who simply don't care about what mess they leave. Apart from that, this looked a superb trip and those bags looked a great size and weight for managing your kit. As always, thanks for a great vlog and take care too. - Bryan -

You are right Ray , the dirty campers will not stray far from their cars from were they can carry all their ale in . For sure they will not be hiking for a couple of hours to then leave crap everywhere. That was a beautiful sunrise in a stunning area . atb Dave
You're spot on with the dirty camping mate and Glen Etive etc. I camped at Shenevall bothy on Monday night and it was like Sauchiehall St! But every single person left no trace and the place remained as beautiful as ever. We can take pride in knowing we are "the good ones" and making an effort 👍
This was one of my favourite walks, when I could still go hill walking,I can't do it anymore so it's great to see your films, especially when you go to places I've been in the past, I lived for it and miss it so very much so I can't thank you enough for your brilliant films.
Hi Ray, I met you on the whw and I think you are so right about what your videos can achieve. Your channel is one of the channels that inspired me to try the whw. Please keep producing, it makes people like me want to go and see the awesome landscapes we have.
This is very inspiring as I am about to get underway on my journey of wild camping and trekking, being responsible certainly top of the list. I had a good laugh when the bird gave you a fright. Anyway great video and hope you have a great week.
Ray! That light! I’ve not been up anything higher than the stairs for 18 months thanks to knee and back problems but I think you have inspired me, for one. The pull of a camp is beckoning and that looks a lovely lonely spot if my knees can cope with the slog up it! Great vlog, and looked like perfect conditions!
You are right Ray, the further we walk from the roadsides and the like, then the less human spoil we'll encounter. You are quite fortunate in Scotland having less folk and more opportunities for wildness and escape. Down here, true escapism is harder to come by and there are more folk seeking it! Great vid' as always. Cheers, Chris
Totally agree on the camping bashing. People throw trash around in city centres, they litter the beaches and green spaces to infinity... it's always been like that. But as soon as people spot a few tents, they blame it on wild camping! Actually, the hikers, anglers and photographers tend to be the most responsible people. Beautiful sunrise by the way...
Thanks Ray for the interesting chat and another insight into that area as I think Murrays last video was near there too. Looks like the typeof terrain I would enjoy. Hopefully one day. Kind regards 👍⛺🌞
A cracking round of 3 Munros beautifully filmed over 2 great days - the paths sure have been improved👍 Have been doing similar trips since the 1970’s before most of these dirty campers were born. Not sure why the likes of Walks with Wallace and yourself are getting some flak at present. You portray the best of Scotland 🏴 and promote the Leave no trace ethos superbly. Long may you continue your excellent videos 👍
Great video Ray the scenery is amazing from any of those peaks. Your definitely keeping your fitness levels up. I totally agree about the Numpties who spoil it for the good people who LEAVE NO TRACE. Part of the WHW has been closed off to camping because of the Numpties.
Thanks for posting this Ray. Looks absolutely stunning. Your message and the message of others like you is completely clear and that is to enjoy the hills and leave no trace. Anyone who leaves mess behind certainly isn't following your philosophy so it's solely on them. Looking forward to your next post and thanks again for the inspiration.
Been following your uploads for a while now and you have with a few others who i follow on a weekly basis have inspired me to go out and spend all my spare money on camping gear, i am away to Keswick in a few weeks after a year or so saving and putting bits away each month, just wanted to say thank you man from a geordie to a jock ! cant wait to get out there again !
Good stuff Ray, your right the dirty camping is nothing new , like you say Glen Etive has been like that for years and the very reason Loch Lomond is now controlled by permits and wardens ..cracking route btw , i done those a few years ago ..cheers Stevie
Sometimes I will share a link in the description but wary of sharing routes. Reason I am reluctant is more to do with if anybody try's to copy what i do and was to have an accident, basically the possibility of liability due to my films. But again if you use the walkhighlands website and do a search of the area I am at it will show many of the walks I am on. Atb
Good stuff ray. That sunrise 👏🏻 lovely colours. You’re right about the mess makers. What can we do? Point any rangers who stop us, to our channels to show that we’re trying 🤷♂️ I hope it stops soon otherwise big problem coming. Anyway. Stunning scenery I’m already missing Scotland 🏴 really need more time up there. Cheers for the vid mate. Atb 👍
Great video Ray, never had that path out the first time I did these hill's... it used to be a bog trot especially in winter, unfortunately as the hill's become more and more popular your always going to have a mixture of the good the bad and the ugly. 👍
Hi Ray, another good one, your comments are spot on, it might get better as this lockdown forced a lot of people to try and get past it by going out and have boozy parties etc, not real campers wild or otherwise but it does tarnish the image a bit, hopefully it will ease but with them pushing staycations it might get worse this year before it gets better, you just maintain your standards. Atb Will.
Perfection as always Ray. Excellent stuff. Such a beautiful spot. Loved the scare with the grouse. Exactly that happened to me the other eve on a camp. Absolutely crapped myself 🤣 ATB!
As always a great video! I bagged Beinn a' Ghlò's three summits a few years back in reverse with some pals with weather much like your first day. Love the content, keep the videos rolling!
An excellent video. Very enjoyable viewing. As far as littering is concerned, all we can reasonably ask of you is that you continue your quiet enthusiasm for what this beautiful country provides for us outdoor types along with a good example. I think you do that, although I can’t imagine hiking with those saddlebags!
Brilliant video, Ray! Been watching from Germany and longing to get back home to get some hiking and camping done. Plenty of inspiration from your channel. Just wondering though, what's the admin that you always mention? Can imagine some documents and a laptop being whipped out haha!
Old army term. Just getting any kit packed and everything squared away ready for heading off in morning. :) So all I do in morning is pack bag, mat and tent.
brilliant Ray, you're always going to get the knobheads that leave their shite lying around, they are just lazy barstewards that cant be arsed to take it away! keep doing what you do mate, its always a joy to see. thank you. atb.
Well, you certainly show me some of the awe inspiring scenes in Scotland Ray. Very enjoyable. Rubbish campers? It's part of the collective consciousness. There is only one way and that is for humanity to raise its vibration. It's all about thought forms floating around the sub mind. Well, lets not get to cosmic it's just nice to be out. All the best. Mark
Watched this video other day this girl went to isle of skye, and there was tons of litter,so sad.i so love your accent, liked the rocky road area, stay safe and have a lovely weekend debs..
That's some high-end chocolate for the mountains Ray! 😁 I think a lot of the dirty camping happening at the moment is just people heading out that aren't necessarily interested in the outdoors as such but are using it as the only available place to go to get a bit of freedom. I doubt the people that make the mess watch outdoor youtube channels since they all make a logical and reasonable case for keeping the outdoors tidy. That being said, this is all pure speculation, a good first step would be to try and gather some data about what's going on, but I imagine the culprits would be less than cooperative 😋 Thanks for another great vid! Cheers, Kris.
Fantastic mountains Ray, I remember doing them a few years a go with a good mate who lives up there. Brought back some great memories😄. We have the same problem in Northumberland’s beauty spots with the trash campers, we can only be the better person and pick up after them. Cheers.
Cracking video Ray some amazing views up there it's a pity people don't follow the LNT but you can't teach the stupid us real wildcampers that do video's will always get the blame I just delete the negative comments I know Rob from Walking with Wallace has been getting some hassle atvb jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Top summit camp Ray, are those SMD bags waterproof or just water resistant? Good points on addressing the backlash we're getting at the moment, totally uncalled for. Wish I knew the answer, but that's for the powers at be to work out, likewise I wouldn't camp down Etive anymore. All we can do is promote LNT. The long walk out has been vastly improved since I first did these hills in 2010. Used to be really boggy for large sections.
Bags are not waterproof and no doubt why they are a bit cheaper. But just stick them in my pump sack or a poly bag in rucksack. Like that everything is just easy stacked on top of each other in pack. Makes getting what you need a bit easier, but maybe just an old fart going daft, lol. Atb
It's a rule of thumb... the easier a place is to get to ( carcamping like Etive) then the more mess is left. It's not our responsibility for others mess. I understand how some can think we're showing all these areas to people but as you say there's a effort to get there. Let's be honest the type that leave a mess are lazy so a hard hike isn't their thing lol. I saw the comments on Robins. ATB.
another good one ray, I know only too well that dirty camping has gone on for years, Ive came across it often enough in my travels & like you Ive brought back other people's rubbish, I think that more places are now been ventured to because of social media & You Tube as more & more people are using these 2 platforms & thats got to be a good thing, but I think there is more openness nowadays to specific locations where before there wasnt it was kind of kept quiet, and very rarely mentioned. Im still of the mindset that I tell nobody where Im going (apart from the wife for safety reasons) & if I do show others photographs I merely say the region (Yorkshire Dales) that the photographs were taken even if asked, maybe its just me but I believe that true wild campers dont need to be specific with their locations, Im a big believer in seek & ye shall find as thats part of the adventure, too many people want specific locations handed to them on a plate nowadays & its social media & You tube that is fuelling this, but I emphasis its not all the vloggers doing this.
Yeh, spot on mate. Thing I am also looking at is getting away from using the term Wild Camping. As more and more channels use that term and what it now means in way of dirty camping. Way back 7-10 years ago wild camping really meant that but now it also includes car camping, etc. Hence why I am going to use the term backpacking more now even if it means YT doesn't promote my films. I will give a little bit of info in a vlog and to be honest a genuine outdoor person will be able to do a bit of research and do the walk if they wanted to.
@@RS.Outdoors I think your wise it doing it Ray, there really isn't any need to use the term wild camping with your channel, Its plane obvious that your a passionate person about the outdoors pursuits you undertake. Ive never done a blog on my trekking adventures, & I have no interest in producing vlogs but I do blog for my fly fishing exploits which is another passion of mine & there is an unwritten rule that we never disclose where we fish. Wild camping isn't a term I use, no need I simply say out n about. Look forward to your future exploits.
Littering aside, on a recent trip in the Arrochar Alps I was shocked at the amount of “human waste” and toilet paper which was left unburied meters from the path leading up through the woods to the Cobbler. Almost like a blanket of discomfort. I guess the accessibility and relative ease of that route attracts a certain kind of person, or group of 20, who wouldn’t think twice about leaving their litter or waste behind. Beinn a ‘glo is a cracking day out, very nice to see it on a clear day 👍🏻
Me and a friend have gone camping in Scotland, in fact I type this this overlooking Stirling from the Dumyat Path, so far we have left no trace except a but of flattened grass. We walked a bit of Loch Lomond and the amount of rubbish left there was just offensive.
Thanks for another great video Ray. Gorgeous landscape & sunrise! Looks like a few new tweaks on your Notch. What did you use for those additional guy outs, stick-on's? And do you feel the added functionality would be worth considering adding them to my Notch? Thanks for another great video, & hoping your respect for the land & LNT practices rub off on others.
Another good camp. Great speech and well said, I am at Glen Coe in a hotel next month, was going to have a night up the mountain over Glen Etive ( leaving family in hotel) not sure now may just do a day walk, the valley has always been bad, is the mountain still quite? Keep em coming
@@RS.Outdoors I have just done the camp on the top, buachaille etive mor ,under estimated how hard it would be with 18kg on my back, thanks for the inspiration keep em coming
I had 1 litre of water / dilute juice mix. Also had 2 litres of water in cnoc puch in mesh section of my rucksack as I knew water would be an issue. Atb
Just watching this on the bigger screen. That sunrise was stunning thank you. Haven’t been to this area for a good while, a group took me over the three summits, laughing at my ridiculous fear of heights, the long walk back won’t be forgotten. Quick question, what pegs did you need for that type of ground ? Thank you again Ray, loved it as usual, ATB 👍
Ground not that bad to be honest. Groundhogs would be good but I was just using the new carbon pegs I got and am trying out. Had to batter a couple in but they held up. Atb
great video, sound advice and education for the spoilers of hiking and camping, although i don't think it's even in their selfish heads as an issue, sad..

ATB.
Good to meet you on the trial today Ray. Enjoy Ghabhar.. 👍
Tent up and few midges out :) Nice to meet you. Atb
@@RS.Outdoors have a great night, should have my video up late tomorrow. Obviously RS gets a mention. 😉👊
another good one ray, I know only too well that dirty camping has gone on for years, Ive came across it often enough in my travels & like you Ive brought back other people's rubbish, I think that more places are now been ventured to because of social media & You Tube as more & more people are using these 2 platforms & thats got to be a good thing, but I think there is more openness nowadays to specific locations where before there wasnt it was kind of kept quiet, and very rarely mentioned.
I always watch your vlogs Ray and I don't think you and likes of Robin and Murray should be taking any blame for dirty camping
Just great, Ray. 👍🏴 Any plans to get out with Murray this year?
Hope to at some point. Atb
It's the Bein a Glo.
Litter thats been carried into a remote location as a meal or a snack and left there is probably a true reflection of the person who left it
Thanks for another great video Ray.
They are DCF patches I bought from WildSkyGear on ebay. Not really had a chance to put to the real test but certainly feel they wont do any harm. Atb
Nice Ray
Thanks Steve. Atb
Another good camp.
Great speech and well said,
I am at Glen Coe in a hotel next month, was going to have a night up the mountain over Glen Etive ( leaving family in hotel) not sure now may just do a day walk, the valley has always been bad, is the mountain still quite?
Keep em coming
Just take a quick look at my channel I camped on buchaille 2 weeks ago. Definitely worth it.
Mountains are fine mate and have a great time. Atb
@@RS.Outdoors I have just done the camp on the top, buachaille etive mor ,under estimated how hard it would be with 18kg on my back,
thanks for the inspiration
keep em coming
Great film.
Wondering how much water you start off with at the first summit?
Can't be much available up on the tops at this time of year.
Atb
Great video again Ray. Are you still planning on redoing the CWT in September? Will you do it all again with video content?
Keep up the great videos 👍
Have just been on it from Fort William to Ullapool. Just got back last week and that was section i needed to finish and only had one week to do it.
@@RS.Outdoors will there be video footage to follow of the trip?
great video, sound advice and education for the spoilers of hiking and camping, although i don't think it's even in their selfish heads as an issue, sad..
