    Glad to see you taking this tent out Ray - I rate my V4A highly. Don't worry about seam-sealing, I still haven't 6 years on and it's never leaked. I'm told this is because the seams are 'rolled' and not 'butted'. The Luxe inner works fine, but its 600g weight isn't that clever. I use a 400g Ali inner instead.
    Alcohol tip: Forget the heavy tins of beer and take a cask-strength malt (typically 55%-60% alcohol bv). This means you carry a third less weight than regular (40%) whisky. It's not meant to be consumed neat - just dilute with water to your preferred drinking strength at camp. Carry it in a lightweight drinks pouch - mine weighs 10g and will hold 35cl which is half a bottle, equivalent to three-quarters of a bottle at normal drinking strength. Liquid alcohol weighs less by volume than water, so the carried weight of the full flask is 316g - not bad for the equivalent of three-quarters of a bottle of Scotch and less than a single can of beer. Plus less getting up to pee through the night. Thank me later.

    Great video (as always) and that sunrise was some intense orange action, brilliant!
    I almost went for the HexPeak after seeing how well it held up in Scott's wind test but opted for the Sierra Designs High Route for the height it offered.
    Seeing your last shot on this one I now understand where the cairn with the plaque is. I saw one as you crest over towards Glencoe Ski centre when I did the WHW recently and wrongly thought it was the one with the plaque. It did get me a bit higher to have a great view over Rannoch Moor.
    Excellent stuff as always and looking forward to seeing how the HexPeaks do in winter.

    Love this tent myself - have owned and used for a little over a year now. I use the ASTA Xinxue 2 Person Four Seasons Inner from ali-express in mine. Bit lighter weight - probably not as well made and leaves you with a small porch, but fits myself, Sam (a large collie dog) and wide Big Agnes AirCore Ultra with plenty of space in the inner itself. Requires a bit of footling to get it to fit right, but I am well impressed so far and looking forward to camping up on the tops and maybe as far as the Atlantic coast - come on the winter :)

    I don't usually like trekking pole tents because of my claustrophobia, but without the inner (I might just bring a groundsheet, to stay dry), the footprint of this one looks extremely generous. I just might be able to actually enjoy this.

    If you're after something lighter than beer to port along, but makes for a more leisurely cup than a flask of the brown stuff, then cask wine ("goon", as it call it here Down Under) freed of its box carries very well; the foil bladder weighs next to nothing, + is totally non-rigid in shape, so it's extremely pack-friendly.
    Of course, since that part of the world isn't exactly known for its wine regions, I don't know if you guys have access to _decent_ cask-wine alongside the bad stuff, as we do here (a winery called Banrock Station makes some very agreeable table-reds, which they do offer under cardboard for the smaller ecological footprint [dunno if this something they still do, but they used to impregnate a section of their boxes with wattle seeds, for planting in the ground once the you're done with it]), but on the off-chance that you do, I figured it was worth a mention.
    It's certainly _my_ personal tipple-format of choice, when going walkabout.

    What do I NOT love about this tent? - It’s weight. I’m 6ft1in and the inner is really at the limit for my height. The inner feels space-wise comparable to a Lanshan 1 Pro. But now come all the things I love about it. Storms, massive downpours, winter summit camps. No other tent I would have wanted to be in. I can happily spend 15h in winter in the tent. Try that in an ultra-lightweight tent. Drop down the inner and it feels like a palace. Cooking, reading, getting changed. All fine. Downpour in the morning? No problem. You have enough space inside to roll up your mat and pack your entire rucksack in the dry. In the end, get out, take the outer down, shake it and attach it to the outer of your rucksack. I haven’t used mine since May but it will come out in a few weeks again. It’s overkill and too heavy on a long-distance summer hike. When the nights get longer, colder and wetter, I don’t want to miss the comfort and safety of this tent.

    • @mysterylovescompany2657

      How does it go for wind resistance while an occupant is lying down? I confess that those high fabric panels on the inner there look very well designed to offset the natural draft coming up under the gap at the base of the outer walls. And do they offer equal protection on _all_ sides of the inner, or only the one that faces into the centre?
      An "Autumn/early Spring" wind-protection design like that has seemed a rare thing on "3-season" (which usually only truly means _comfy_ In Summer, early Autumn & late Spring) tents, from my research, so as someone with a chill-reactive chronic spinal injury - that can quickly make a whole trip miserable, if activated - it looks very attractive to me.

    • @hnahler
      @hnahler ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mysterylovescompany2657 , I have camped on hilltops I n 20mph and subzero (Celsius) temperatures. No problem. There is a massive difference when you sit up in the inner. You then do get the draft. But laying down, the panels of the inner are high enough all around to keep the wind off. It is indeed not a 4-season inner as some of the warmth you generate will be blown away through the netting higher up. Also, I haven't used it in snow, so cannot comment on that.
