  • After a series of misfortunes, Coy Featherston, 66, was homeless on the streets of Texas. But good luck - and good friends - intervened. After a number of his high school classmates spotted his name in the school paper, they joined together to help get Featherston’s life back on track. Steve Hartman reports.

This is true friendship that never dies out. The way they bonded together to help him is truly inspiring and restores my faith in humanity. The way they each are playing a part in helping their old friend is so special. Not only is he off the street he now has a phone and they also helped him with needed dental work and this is just the beginning. This is a really special group of people I wish I was their friend.

I was surprised and then made so happy by the tiny blip in Texas Monthly! Fred and I knew Coy back in the late 70s. Coy was the inspiration for my first ever home project. He never grumbled just smiled and helped me with it. His art was quirky and delightful, I still have three cards. He was then and is still now a unique and spirited man, his cup of kindness is full. Peace be.

Sometimes I get extremely depressed at the fact that I only have like 10 friends that I regularly talk to, and even fewer that I interact with more than a handful of times a year, but then I remember that of those few friends, two I've know since kindergarten and two I've known since fifth grade, and I'd readily take a bullet for them any day of the week. It's all about quality, not quantity.

do you know how the movie " Tag" is inspired by a true story of friends sticking together after many years by the game of tag,
well i also think a movie could be made out of this a really really feel good movie,
Maybe flashbacks of the " homeless guy" and his highschool days, being that awesome guy to stand up for people, making friends with everyone, maybe he saved a one of his peers life back in the day, and then some other sideline stories of him and maybe his home life was not good at all but he still had his great attitude, the one of those screens pop up like " 30 years later"
and it Highlights the teens back in the day who were more so of a focul point in the flashback and shows how they are living, maybe a small group of friends all over the spectrum, couple rich guys and a few guys doing a trade, one being like a small time salesman like a Realtor or car salesmen or furniture salesman, or Tractor supple salesman or something,
you see one of the rich guys having like a HORRIBLE DAY, then on his way home his car breaks down and for some reason he ends up having to walk the rest of the way home ( maybe he wasnt that far)
maybe as he is walking down the street he just so happens to see a group of police officer interacting with the homeless man ( rich guys past highschool buddy who saved his life) telling him he cant sleep there and needs to move, they ask him for his name and the homeless guy tell them his name, and the rich guy walking overhears this name and stops in his tracks with a flashback of the homless guy in his teens years saving his life, without thinking he goes up to the cops and with his " influential stature and demeanor and clothing attire" was able to tell the cops he will handle it and they can leave,
Maybe the helps his old friend by finding a better spot to sleep, and the homeless man filled with some embaressment and pride refuses any further help other than helping him to carry a few things to a new spot, it ends there and the rich guy continues his walk home, makes it back home and he realized he was suddenly not in a bad mood anymore, couple weeks go by and he cant get this guy off his mind, yet there is a highschool reuniion coming up.
he gets together with the guys, and then you know the whole story can begin of them collaberating together, trying to find this guy and changing his life, and maybe the homeless guy ends up gaining a sucessfull career by the end of the movie.
im no screen wrriter but you know........... i think there could be something there lol

It's sad though that if you have depression, autism, are shy or a bit introvert and don't have any friends then you don't have a security net either. That's why you pay taxes so that no one is left behind.

Problem is all humans are so judgemental they won't give u a chance to be there friend.
The reason I have no friends is cause everyone looks at me an thinks I'm a homeless man, drug addict (even tho I only smoke weed)
Just sucks to always be alone.
My hope for humanity is kindness and friendship.
Trust me that's what this world needs.

I am 66, on the streets, do not drink or drug, and rarely smoke. I am on SSDI but in spite of seeking help, filling out ECHO three times, and much more, somehow the powers that be never do anything of any real value to get me off the streets. I am a former Electronics Engineer. Invited to join the National Engineering Honor Society. My career has been shot to pieces by management incompetence, and outright fraud, then severe health issues. Where is the real help when one needs it?

    • @Brucev7
      @Brucev7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There is help. And that help comes in the form of God, who is our Provisioner. He works through people, and circumstances. I have been through circumstances where people made evil choices that severely affected myself. I continued to ask for help and prayed. It took time, but the Turnaround occurred, slowly. Do not be afraid to ask. We must remain Humble. May God change your heart, turn you to His Son, Lord Jesus Christ, for Salvation, a changed heart, then a changed life. Supplying all of your needs. Sending those who can help. To His Glory. in Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
