Super Mario World is simply a masterpiece. In fact, the only flaw is, like Johnny said, the boss battles but even then the rest of the game makes up for it. I've been playing this game since my early gamer days and I've loved it ever since. Not only is it one of my favorite Mario games, but one of my favorite games ever. It's that fucking good. If you haven't played this game already, then you are seriously missing out,
It's been 5 years since this review... And sadly, no 30th Anniversary SMB game with all 3d Mario games in one disc :( Well in 3.9.2020 (Or those who has in calendars month/day, 9.3) they finally did it! ...Expect they forgot Super Mario Galaxy 2
EspioTheTriforce That i don't have yet got to test... :( :( :( I don't own Wii U. Sure i own Nes, japanese top-loader nes, snes, n64, retro 5, gameboy advance SP, Ps Vita, 3ds (and i gave my wii for my brothers as christmas present) and bunch of games, but i don't own Wii U.
Yeah, and Mario Maker was very underwhelming compared to fan projects. On the topic of a Super Mario... All Stars Mario All Stars? Aunno I'd love to see 64 and Sunshine redesigned with what made Galaxy shit on those two games. Expanded levels, making each mission unique, better controls, more theatrics... add this with F.L.U.D.D. and I think I'd forgive the toll booths.
So many memories with these games. Super Mario World was not just my first SNES game I've owned and beaten, but my loved of video games in general. Years later, Super Mario: All-Star came and that's how I gotten to play the old NES Mario games; with Mario 3 being my favorite. These games is what made me an Mario fan and getting into an whole lot of video games. And with that. I will always cherished them. And for me, both All-Star Mario 3, World and Land 2 are some of my favorite 2D Mario games and favorite Mario games overall. And between these games, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong Quest and Yoshi's Island, they're some of the greatest 2D platforming games on the SNES.
@@rubeng370 Sunshine and Galaxy I can understand because there’s only so much you can update with those two. 64 however I expected a lot more the most.
I grew up with the GBA port of Super Mario World but I don't think it really matters, this game in general is a freaking masterpiece. However, I will say being able to play as an aesthetically different Luigi and the Mario Bros. minigame (With a lovable start-up theme) makes the GBA version the superior title. Not to mention being able to enjoy the game on the go and I honestly prefer some of the songs on the GBA than the SNES original. (That's not a knock to the original though, it's still fantastic)
I had the GBA port as well. It was the first game I ever owned. One of my friends lost the first copy I got when he borrowed it from me, and my dog chewed up the second copy I got. It still works perfectly fine, though lol
The ElectrOStudios My 5th Grade social studies teacher confiscated my GBA SP (Along with Super Mario World) from me when a kid went into my bookbag and took it. To this day, she never gave it back. But it's okay, I have a replacement SP (2 actually) and a new copy.
***** I still have my second copy, but both my GBA and my Nintendo DS Lite have a lot of broken buttons now, so I basically can't play my GBA copy anymore. I've thought about buying another GBA off of amazon, but I also have the snes version on virtual console anyway
I actually grew up with the original SNES version. But I have and recently beat the GBA port. They're both really good. The GBA version does have a few differences though. GBA added cutscenes that the original didn't have. GBA also had the checklist(select button) which the SNES didn't have. The SNES's "Fall world" where the colors change is easier to get, only needed to beat special world to get it. And a few other minor things, like the GBA making Yoshis lay and egg with an item depending on their color (Red for fireflower, blue for feather, etc). SNES one all dropped the same item no matter what color dropped it. GBA also added dragon coins to levels that the original didn't have them in. I think the biggest change, is being able to play as Luigi in 1 player mode. And having Luigi actually play differently. Even Yoshi works a bit different when playing as Luigi on GBA.
I got a Super Nintendo and The Mario All Stars + World cartridge very recently and wow, I cannot believe how I missed out on the Super Nintendo as a child, I can greatly appreciate the console wars now as I am no longer biased towards the mega drive (genesis). Great job showing one of the greatest Mario games.. Hell maybe even one of the greatest games of all time. Looking forward to the 3D reviews :)
I kinda hate the console between the SNES or genesis, each console had better things than the other, and I like both consoles the same because they are both AWESOME!
To be fair, "The Lost Levels" progression in Super Mario All-Stars is saved every sub-level instead of every level, making it much, much more bearable. Great review from 7 years later, I agree with basically the whole thing.
First game I ever played in my life, and loved every second of it! Still enjoy it to this day, and I'm especially having fun re-playing it on my SNES Classic, =D
I remember playing this game when I was a little kid. Was hooked for the longest time. Never gets old. In fact, one of my aunts had a Super Nintendo and a copy of this game. She took a picture of me playing the game. Had a bag of Doritos at my side.
Interesting Fact: In Super Smash Bros. Wii U (Not too sure about 3DS) the Punch-Out stage, "Boxing Ring" will sometimes show 2 of the fighters in the ring, along with their titles. When Mario is on screen his title is "Mr. Video-Game Himself".
Ah, Super Mario World. The first video game I ever played. Good times. :D I used to call Wendy's Castle "The Forbidden Castle 6", because I could never figure out that I needed to get the secret exit in Forest of Illusion 3. FUN FACT: SMW started out as a port of Mario 3.
REALLY not impressed by the 25th Anniversary rerelease of Super Mario All-Stars. They literally just printed a SNES ROM to a disc, and charged $30 for it. Buying each game individually from Virtual Console actually costs LESS than that.
***** Eh.. more like the horse is still racing, and everyone knows it, it's just an unspoken truth. I assume you were implying emulators were dead anyway.
Super Mario World is practically perfect, but I'd say the only minus is that most of it is quite easy. And to be honest, I think I prefer the original versions of the Nes games over the All Star versions with better graphics. Just that nostalgia I guess.
7:38 maybe originally the Goblin King was supposed to be in the game, but Nintendo thought David Bowie in his, um, signature spandex was not kid friendly enough and took him out but forgot to remove his floating balls.
Carrying items underwater allows Mario to move faster because they are less dense and more buoyant, allowing him to use more of his energy laterally. Duh! That's why these items are found at the... bottom of the bodies of water. Because, they're so... buoyant. Yeah, I got nothing.
My theory is that they're so happy to have company in so long (what with being abandoned in the water for so long), making them rather energetic when they're in the water. Sure it's a far-fetched theory, but that's all I got.
I knew about that since I was a little kid. Knew what needed to be done to reach it, but I had a hard time finding the alternate exit that would have lead me to the fortress which I needed to clear to get to the Back Door. I don't know about anyone else, but I like to sneak in through the back door and spare myself the trouble of the obstacle course.
Watched this video like the third time and only now I came to notice that unlike in the Yoshi's Island review, you never mention the GBA port. Or was it a quick mention somewhere where I wasn't looking?
I grew up with this game, but I am NOT a fanboy. That being said I absolutely LOVE this game. It still holds up even today. If you don't have fun with this one Mario might not be for you.
Just because you grew up with a game does not make you a fanboy. I only play Nintendo consoles, but I am not a fanboy, I play third party games on my PC and plan on getting a PS4. Fanboys are a special type of person that defend a certain company to the death even when they know they are wrong. They are what I like to call, how do I put this lightly, "Low life scumbag retards?" And honestly, if you don't like this game, Mario might not be for you. If you don't like Super Mario 64, video games might not be for you (or you are just a really sad person).
Totally agree. While I feel it's a great game and fundamentally "perfect", I just don't understand why people hold it such high regard. I guess I'm just missing out.
i may be a nintendo fanboy although I wont defend nintendo's actions ESPECIALLY in the case of metroid other m, the whole "trying to humanize" samus thing that ppl will use if you say that it was stupid for samus to get scared of ridley even though she had fought and defeated him about 6 times beforehand. that being said I still love the metoid series more than any other seriesI've ever played, yes not even the zelda series is as high up as metroid imo. but thats probably cuz i enjoy sci-fi more than anything else, FPS games im not a fan of personally, I like them but things like COD or even the battlefield series arent my favorite games, not saying i dont like them, i like to play them, but if i were to choose playing a metroid game or a COD/battlefield game I'd choose metroid
Ah yes, a simpler time. Back in the years of 2011 and 2012, when Johnny was raging over lost levels, and tearing sonic and the black knight a new asshole.
When I was a kid, my friend and I were so addicted to this game that he would sleep over at my house, we'd wait for my parents to go to sleep, then sneak into the other room to play with the volume all the way down. We even managed to get *96! I haven't played any Mario games since Sunshine, but this is definitely my favorite of the series with Super Mario Bros 3 as the only close competitor. To this day, I still play it once a year or so.
Pretty much, they should work on that. Is it just me, or are bosses supposed to be hard and challenging, and typically, harder than the stages of the game they are in? I mean... they are bosses right. The only other game this is not the case is zelda, where its all item-gimmicks based on the item you just got. Personally, I like the souls-games way of bosses, really hard but with a blind spot or weakness to find, either that or a boss which isnt a 3-hit kill pattern machine.
This was the first video game I ever played. I played it so much as a kid, that it got to the point when I could literally play the game with my eyes closed.
Maybe the back door is for pizza deliveries?
THANKS! NOW I'M HUNGRY!
Bowsers incompetent goons set it up without permission from bowser for pizza and stuff like that

Ah yes, a simpler time. Back in the years of 2011 and 2012, when Johnny was raging over lost levels, and tearing sonic and the black knight a new asshole.
that black knight review probably didnt age well since everyone in the sonic community loves that game now.
@@mason2978 Hell nah. Those games suck ass and most people agree with that.
the graphics look so cool
Noticed a lot of Forest of Illusion footage for some reason.
Don't Worry... It's all an "Illusion"
Raulito Guzman lol
+1000000 for old school, retro games are better
Oh hey, is that Super Mario 3d world over there!?
Johnny you predict the future of the 3D Mario games
At 5:45 isn't it supposed to be 0 because Johnny did subtract it with 1 and not 2??
When I was a kid, my friend and I were so addicted to this game that he would sleep over at my house, we'd wait for my parents to go to sleep, then sneak into the other room to play with the volume all the way down. We even managed to get *96! I haven't played any Mario games since Sunshine, but this is definitely my favorite of the series with Super Mario Bros 3 as the only close competitor. To this day, I still play it once a year or so.
You should try out mario galaxy 1 and 2, there AMAZING games!
mario games are hard!
mario bosses are easy
Pretty much, they should work on that.
Is it just me, or are bosses supposed to be hard and challenging, and typically, harder than the stages of the game they are in? I mean... they are bosses right.
The only other game this is not the case is zelda, where its all item-gimmicks based on the item you just got.
Personally, I like the souls-games way of bosses, really hard but with a blind spot or weakness to find, either that or a boss which isnt a 3-hit kill pattern machine.
Wait, since when are Mario games hard?
Except for the final boss...."somewhat".
+MysteriousStranger50 Kirby games are sort of the opposite.
"Released in 1991"
Game Super Mario World - 1990 (TH-cam Gaming)

HELL YEAH!!!
THANK YOU YOU AMAZING FUCKER!
I posted this comment before I knew about those games. Add those to the list :)
And 3D World. Wii U hater.
I love that game, I just thought that 3d land and 3d world should have their own reviews.
Sweet, another retro gamer! You sir, deserve a thumbs up.
This is the Mario game I played the most when I was a child. So many memories. Still the best 2D Mario game and it's one of my favorite of the series.
Also. SNES ROCKS!
Super Mario World was just brilliant. That's it, I'm done here
8:42: "I'M SO SORRY, YOSHI!"
9:48: "BOWSER HAS A BACK DOOR?"
You call bowser a moron for having a back door? Need I remind you of how to kill him in smb3?
I will always remember that Super Mario All-star and Super Mario World were my first two video games I ever played.
This was the first video game I ever played. I played it so much as a kid, that it got to the point when I could literally play the game with my eyes closed.
