      The unforgivable bit was when he didn't give the position back straight away therefore robbing himself of the chance to retake his team mate legitimately. He chose to make a silly statement to show he was faster rather than actually giving himself the chance to win and prove it that way.
      If he was gonna ignore them and win the race then fair enough but he wasn't prepared to do that so he should have yielded then re overtook his slower team mate in the many laps still left.

    The whole reason Lando was leading is because the team brought him in first on a track where the undercut is massive to cover Lewis (even though it didn't look like he was in range). If they brought Oscar in first like they should have done Lando would've still been P2 but at least would've had the whole final stint to try and get past. 5 mins in and im already gobsmacked. Did peter even watch the race? Im not convinced because he missed out the context before the pitstops. Oscar overtook lando at T1 and had a 3 second gap before the pitstops but mclaren, in mclaren fashion, prioritised the slower driver and gave him the undercut stategy. Im a brit, but this british bias is sickening. Oscar is just as good as lando already, he has been scammed out of a win and a few podiums just to favour norris and they still have identical career win totals. What lando should have done is give the place back immediately and then overtake oscar on track, if he really is as good as everyone seems to think he is.

And then peter went as far to say that oscar should give up the win for the norris because he should want to "win fair and square"??? We have seen senna, Schumacher and max "win" championships they shouldn't have by being dirty, unfair and "ruthless". He literally said that lando should be a more of a "racing driver" and not be so "fair and square"....now all of a sudden peter thinks oscar should be fair and square to lando???? For what? You cannot have your cake and eat it. You cannot have one guy obeying team orders, and the other guy doing whatever he wants. As I said, the british bias is sickening. Horrific take from peter today. • @CharistoSmuts
      @CharistoSmuts 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bud, you don't "win" a race on the first corner, multiple drivers have won races starting from P20, a lot can happen in a race, to say Oscar deserved the win because he took the first corner is ridiculous. He went off track a few times as soon as the pressure was one, and cooked his tyres, went off into the gravel as well. As for overtaking on the track, they were told they were not allowed to race each other after lap 40, so your argument is moot.

      @braveheart4603 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      I totally disagree with Peter here. Sure many great drivers would never have relinquished that position such as he did but many also would have seen the wider picture. Drivers like Lewis would have made a very calculated decision based on many wider factors rather than fight for every single win and every single position out of principle.
      Lewis is a great example of a driver who understands the politics and manoeuvres those type of things to his advantage to affect more than just a race win. Schumey was selfish but understood the wider politics well also. Those guys sacrificed wins to team mates in order to garner more support from a more bolstered team and it worked out very well for them.
      I also think there's a decent chance that your career goes the way fernando's did when you become solely self interested. Hopefully not for his sake but i feel Max is at risk of putting himself into the same bracket as Alonso and being viewed as toxic to team environments.

    What Windsor means to say when he exclaims “racers want to win” is that it should be at any cost. Sacrificing everything. Your integrity, reputation, sportsmanship, relationships, self respect even. Were Briatore and the team real racers crashing Piquet? Where’s the line? Should an 800m runner clip the heels of his rival in front? At what point do we stop lionising cheating effectively, or celebrating unsportsmanlike behaviour? The lore of those dramatic incidents as when Senna took out Prost on purpose, or Schumacher on Hill, belie the sour taste we all had in the moment, as the victory wasn’t earned through real racing. The history books may just show the numbers, but for those of us that remember, we all know in our heart of hearts there’s a good way, and a bad way to win.

    Lets be honest, modern F1 is a mere reflection, a mirage of vintage F1. Like football and FIFA, the FIA have fucked the sport, and the ridiculous technology and money have also ruined the spectacle. Exactly 30 years ago, at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Benneton’s Schumacher had a fastest lap of 1 min 19 seconds. The fastest lap on Sunday was 1 min 22? Let that sink in. The cars have lost 1 second a decade in speed. The spectacle of F1, the attraction, its disappearing inexorably.

    McLaren was absolutely embarrassing yesterday. I can't fathom how they were able to make such a huge win into such a huge L. I mean did they not realize that their actions would put the team in a strange place. Personally I think the only way this could be a little more acceptable if the team had agreed to let Oscar get the win if he was in the lead to get his first win out of the way then after the rest of the season will be focused on Lando. Regardless of it all, this is a terrible look for the team and I 100% want to hear Zak Brown's thoughts on the matter

    At the time of the pit stop, Piastri was in front and should have be given the undercut. The engineers created the mess by allowing Norris to pit first. McLaren is at fault, not Piastri, not Norris.

    Sorry Peter Windsor… as much as I admire your contribution to Australian motor sport i must disagree with your hypothesis in this matter.
    1. Max vertappen racing skills are to be admired - Not his disrespectful behaviour & putting others at risk!
    2. Lando’s decision to swap position was to be admired. It took courage! That is what is going to make hime a better person & race champion than Max.
    3. Oscar should not have considered letting Lando keep 1st position? This was his 1st race win? Why on earth would a young Oscar think that way? Should Max have surrendered his 1st World Championship in Abu Dabi based on the fact that lewis was the better driver in that race? The race contro;;er gave him his 1st WC not his skill.
    Bad & disrespctful behaviour should never be supported… no matter what sport your in. Condoning Max Verstappen behaviour is not role model conducive! The best world Champions demonstrate respect on all levels - They are the best role models. I want my son to be fair & respectful in anything he does in life. Not be a selfish, spoilt and disrespectul person who does anything to win & chucks childish tantrums when losing!

      Oscar was infont. Oscar had all the clean air and was doing well. The only reason Lando was pitted first was to protect Lando from Hammo and Max. Even though it was a small chance it was none the less a chance. I dont get where Peter is coming from. It was Oscars win

    • @jamie4943
      @jamie4943 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I think the argument is because Oscar was the faster driver up until the pit stop he should have been given the best strategy. Because lando was slower and Mclaren were woried about Hamilton they decided to pit him first giving Norris the better strategy, and allowing him to undercutt Piastri. The argument is that it is not fair on Oscar that he got undercut because Mclaren only pitted Norris first because he was slower than Piastri and Mclaren were worried about Hamilton undercutting them. Imo Mclaren should have inverted the cars immediately and then let them fight to the end.

Agree with Peter that the art of defense is very important - but passing is rated much higher than defense: listen toCroft from Skysports say "Brilliant racing" when Lando passed Max (and the other way about later) in Silverstone as a result of DRS...."Brilliant Racing"?????

    Lando needed to give that position back. They agreed previous that that would be their way. He was clearly faster than Piastri. He should have done it earlier and then past Piastri on track. I commend him for keeping his word. Not too many people have that kind of integrity. The problem is that they were all (except Piastri) talking way too much on the radio.

  • @jamie4943

    I think the incident highlights the difference in mentality between Max and Lando. Remember Brazil 22 Max wouldn't even give up
    P6 (from memomy) to Perez when he was already champion. I think Lando did the right thing, but I think Mclaren really need to review their strategy; they keep putting their drivers in these awkward situations with poor strategy. Mclaren should have inverted their cars immediately after Oscar was undercut. There was like 10 or so laps left, they robbed us of an entertaining battle for the race lead. Furthermore, Mclaren have now somewhat tainted Oscar's first win.
