    I believe Rog has lost his confidence against Novak. Yes, Novak has improved greatly no doubt. However, Roger used to go into every match knowing full well he was going to win no matter what unless it was against Nadal on clay. There are so many matches against Novak that he should have won and crumbled psychologically. With that being said I think people look past how clutch Roger has been in his career, it has been clouded by him blowing so many opportunities against Novak when it mattered most.

      You're right. I don't know any other big rivalry in tennis where one player has so many matches where he has match points and doesn't take them and loses. Literally if he had won a couple of points his whole legacy changes and he's cemented as the goat. Even if he had managed to only win Wimbledon 2019 it would've been so big and such a great achievement. Hard to take for a Federer fan

    • @bloat1235
      @bloat1235 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@conradruddy2155 Not even a Federer and I've gotta agree. The rivalry is so close in terms of wins, yet only one player has lost so many matches (and crucial ones) from match point positions, even on serve. The Nadal-Federer rivalry is fairly lopsided up until the neo backhand and Nadal's physical decline. The Djokovic - Nadal rivalry seems to be Nadal dominating on clay, Djokovic on hard, and Nadal being having terrible form '15-16, with some very close matches but again, no "40-15" situations for either. Unless you count the break points in the Wimbledon semi, or Nadal's missed backhand up the line in the AO final.

    • @conradruddy2155

      @@bloat1235 just shows that's its hair line margins in these rivalrys. It's as if federer forgot how to get over the line and be composed but ruthless on match points. You could tell by djokovic's post match reaction after the 2019 Wimbledon final that he was genuinely surprised but grateful he won. I think once djokovic beat Federer in a Wimbledon final in 2013 that was a huge swing in the rivalry given how important Wimbledon is for Federer.

Cannot get any more peak than that. Instead he lost arguably the most important legacy match in the last 50 years in straight sets to a zero slam winner. Maybe he choked. But then again, Djokovic built his reputation around not choking. So obviously this was very anti-climactic. Like I said, context matters. A GOAT does not whimper to a loss in a slam final in straights to a zero slam winner. But Djokovic did. It’s called being served a dish of humility. Nothing is certain. Wawrinka is a 3x GS winner where he slayed peak Djoker every time he won a GS. And he has been a shadow with knee injury since mid 2017. Who knows what would have happened if peak Stanimal was still around? Again, context and perspective matter.

      If, if, if, Novak also could have won more slams if he had no injuries ever. The reality is he's the goat and will win more slams than any other player in the history of the sport for at least a decade. Roger that!

Back in the day lot of players(McEnroe and Bjorg and others) used to do the chip and charge which is similar to this but the ball is taken at a good height and player is about a foot inside the baseline. But in this shot by Roger , he rushes almost to the service line and takes it on the half volley very near to the feet. Also the name SABR was given by Federer himself.
