5:24 underneath the warranty label, there is actually a small hole that, with a small enough tool, you can push to unclip the fourth clip.
and his sponsor iFixit has an manual for disassembly where he could have read that :D
@@_packa_2731 reading manuals? are you out of your mind?

Loved the "certified technician" achievement
Here's me thinking the Xbox label was meant to be that colour lol.
Lol omg me too 😹😹
Me too lol
Same. Had to rewatch it to make sure it was real.
Color*
@@douglasking5974 um actually in some countries like Australia it is colour
Actually, especially now that there has been so much shortages of brand new consoles, it's always good idea to always buy 1-2 generations older consoles.
Usually with just bit of cleaning up, they simply work, games won't just magically get worse, everything is so much cheaper and sometimes you can even just mod it to use it for even more stuff than just that consoles games. With 360/PS3 and forward you can also re-use the controllers with PC and android!
It is a USB connector - that is actually a USB port even.
The earliest 360S model just had the actual Xbox 360 USB wireless adapter hidden inside it, without the plastic shell on it.
Nah, it is a non standard "wide USB". You can tell because it has 6 pins but standard USB only has 4.
Many winters ago I found one tossed in the trash. It was all smashed up but when I finally got it cleaned up it booted... into Diablo III. The disk was stuck inside. I fixed the DVD player with a new belt You have to be careful disassembling it because the plastic gets brittle over the years and I broke a lot of clips. Nice video!
(yeah, I played a lot of Diablo after that)
i'd recommend taking the case apart and just washing it in the shower with dish soap and a cleaning brush, it's way quicker and works surprisingly well. if there are any stubborn spots that don't come out that way, you can use your citrus cleaner or alcohol afterwards, but it's still much less effort.
I didn't plan on opening it, so cleaned it first but felt the video was lacking without showing its internals and repasting the processor. So filmed that later.
Actually, I have a 360 slim with the newest firmware and the copyright year is the same. I believe it is the year that the dashboard itself was released, but not the firmware update itself.
Always a pleasure, old boy. For any kind of chrome, even on plastic, you can use metal polish when detergent and alcohol have failed. I use Brasso and it gets a lot of deposits off. It's a pretty fine and delicate abrasive compound.
05:25
Coincidentally, I found a discarded a matte black 360 Slim a month or so ago, and I too hated that deviously placed clip
So much in fact, that I intentionally broke it off just so I wouldn't have to deal with it again in the future, lol
Thankfully it still holds together just fine with only one of them
there is a hidden hole behind the sticker that serves the purpose of pushing that particular clip with something like a paper clip
love the "certified technician" text
achievement 😂
I can’t believe how high quality and enjoyable your videos are so high quality even 15 year old me who has never opened a 360, opened up my console for the first time and cleaned it and got rid of dust off of every part even cleaned the cpu and add fresh thermal paste and put it all back together with only this video thanks so much 👍
If you want to keep making console restoration videos I'll watch everyone, they're so satisfying to watch
why do u watch us 😨

This guy should have 1 million subscribers by now. Keep up the good work
Just so you know, one of the main features of the 360 S is that it fixed the problems that caused RRoDs. I think there may be a few that got it, but it's not a genuine concern with these models.
I cleaned up the same model Xbox years ago and had the same problem with the gloss finish being removed by my cleaner (iso alc in my case). But with light sandpaper you can make the entire plastic have a matte finish and it will look great (similar to the black models). Just leave out the vents with your sanding efforts.
Great work Hugh! What percentage of isopropyl alcohol did you use to clean off the case with? Microsoft really did a great job with the Xbox 360 Slim; they were much less likely to get the RROD then earlier models were.
This was a much later version less prone to Red ring so no surprise it worked tbf those ones are tanks!
This model of 360 turns itself off when overheating
@@tubesami the general over heating issue was "resolved" take that with a grain of salt with the og 360s, tbf to their credit later series like the slim models and the go had no issues.
this is a xbox 360 slim, but I've never seen a white one
@@c0quinha They did quite a few white slim ones like for star wars etc
@@SilentRoses Star Wars one wasn't all white. It was R2D2 themed
I love your sunday videos hugh, It makes my week
"Achievement Unlocked: Certified Technician" LMAO! One of the funniest things I've ever seen in your videos! I love it.
You are very lucky the DVD drive was working fine as they are not a simple process to replace especially on those models.
Some models are virtually impossible now thanks to MS's attempts to prevent drive flashing. Luckily for me when mine died (fat model) I still had the tools to re-write the firmware and my DVD key.
That pull on 4th clip was like "Hugh smash Hulk smash". 😆 great video as always. Keep up Your work dude.
I would suggest purchasing an x-clamp removal tool, using a screw driver can damage the motherboard if you slip with it. The x-clamp just slips under and pulls it up really simple.
For $20 AU, and it works, you got a great deal! Thanks for the take apart, cleaning, & reassembly vid, Mr Jeffreys! 🤓
I found a ps4 on the street , I've done the same as you, replace the thermal paste, now it's working fine.
a ps4 for free? how lucky huh
@@d3adman404 welcome to Belgium my g
Form Experience Hugh, I find stripping the console down to a plastic shell makes it easy to just clean with some soapy water and sponge.
Bro we just disassemble the body and wash it with water and soap every year and our xbox works and looks fantastic.
Doing the washing technique since I had the PS2.
Good console btw, still refuses to die in 2022
Huge, why didn’t you opened the xbox, remove the trim and cleaned the mold?
Great video hugh, glad you did another console video this time!
The Xbox 360 S and E models are probably the most reliable 360s the only thing that really goes wrong with those is the power supply and in the DVD drive, there's little switch that tells when the drive door is shut, it has a tendency to pop out of its clips and some models they use a magnetic switch. The only other major thing you have to worry about is replace the thermal paste.
you can open the shell easier by sticking the metal pry tool down the end and pulling it open on both sides...very easy that way and you won't disrupt the 'warranty lmao' sticker. Also, this box is a prime candidate for RGH 3...you don't need a post fix adapter...but since it's a 4GB Corona you'll need to wire as such to dump and write the NAND....
i had both the gloss black and matte black slim 360 but never seen a slim in white, it sure looks pretty !
You can explain very well so people will understand
Hi Hugh. There's actually a hole under the sticker that you have to put though a thin tool like a sim card ejection tool to remove the forth clip.
That’s the first time ive seen a white version of that model… and man am I in love that looks sick.
I published a video a while back that shows some easy ways to take this console apart
Hi Hugh. You might want to give Methylated Spirits or Rubbing Alcohol a try for cleaning the stubbornly dirty parts of electronics - they remove most things without damaging the plastic like acetone will. I use methtylated spirits to remove thermal paste and it works really well for that too.
You are a gem to the world.
5:35 you should make a compilation of this kinda stuff happening 🤣🤣
The White 360 Slim was such a sick looking Console!!
No idea why Microsoft made a slim 360 in white, I thought half the point of the slim is that it's nowhere near as ugly as the phat. Great video.
We stepped into TronicsFix territory with this one, but did you use the perfect amount of thermal paste? I hope you watch him to understand the paste comment. Another great video.
Ahhh....old memories once got this same 360s model opened out with lot struggle and cleaned it with new thermal paste ..later jailbroked ,played for a long time, used stealth servers for multiplayer games , later sold it and bought a PS3 done the same for that ps too😅 now gaming pc..
You should do the original “phat” PS3 - I have both a PAL & a NTSJ model
Yeah, maybe try to fix those ylod issue on the old ps3 fat model
$20 on a used Xbox that it's still working is insane. Especially when I remember the prices people sell their used Xboxes here in Brazil. Electronics are so damn expensive here, y'all have it so easy in other countries..
5:18 pushing on the warranty seal with 2 fingers while pushing up usually works for me when taking off the top, maybe it will work for you if you ever take apart anymore 360 consoles :)
The older model Xbox 360s are not any better, theres a step where you have to push in tiny tabs on the back and then you pull it apart before the tabs re lock themselves. When I repasted one of those during the disassembly the back cover wouldn't split like it should and I eventually resorted to using brute force just to see if the tabs or the plastic would give out first. On the side with the HDMI the case had no issue coming apart, on the side with the power port instead of the unclipped tabs coming apart the plastic below broke in half with a sizeable chunk attached to the top case. Even reassembly was a mess trying to line those clips up
You could have cleaned the plastic cover after disassembling. Cleaning the CPU aluminum heatsink would also help in trimming down temps.
Don’t get me wrong I love my Series X. But the 360 was something else! This era was really something special. I still remember the moment when I played Gears Of War for the first time 😳🤤🙀. Also PGR 3 🏎
HINT: To clean off plastic very well from stubborn glue or stains, I use "anti silicone solvent". It's a solvent used mainly in automotive and carpenting, precicely to remove silicone or glue from any surface without damaging them. It works wonder. Dunno how it's called precicely in english tho, anti silicone is the italian name and I can find it easely on Amazon
Great work Hugh. Love your videos and how you care on little details on how to disassemble the device. Question not related to the video: what type of watch you're wearing?
Now go ahead and mod the console via RGH3 just for fun. It's very straightforward and only require a raspberry pi pico. This motherboard seems to be a Corona V1, so you won't need a postfix for it. That will be a cool video to see someone without experience doing this mod.
5:35 "Certified Technician Moment"
7:54 Yes, make sure you trap as many air bubbles in there as you can.
5:37 Xbox:you don't come in here anyway
you:or maybe yes 🤣🤣
Nice job spreading that thermal paste.
i remember saving all summer for a new console, hoping it would be the playstation 3. ps3 ended up getting delayed (again) so i settled for an xbox 360 because i didnt want to wait any longer. the game i bought with it was dead rising and when i got it home and fired it up, the graphics absolutely blew me away. i couldnt believe how a video game could look so real. that xbox ended up being warrantied 3 times due to the red ring of death but it was a good console for me!
I want to cut it ✂️
Seriously the white version of the slim look very nice I love it
I know I'm late to this video, too late for it to matter, but the Xbox you have in the vid is, from the looks of it, an Xbox 360 Slim version. NOT the first gen, or even the revision to that. The very first models (ones which you said could get the RRoD) do not have HDMI support. The Slim models also were unable to receive the RRoD, as far as I know, so a working Xbox 360 Slim in that white for only 20 buck, just missing a PSU and a Controller is a steal
looking forward to more videogames being restored, nice job
This model of Xbox is held together by hopes and dreams
Back in those these they used to be strong unlike today
a small pitstop for the dvd drive is missing ;-). some grease and love and there you go.
Agreed with a drive that old it's worse taking apart, and putting some white lithium grease on the rails if you have already gone to the trouble of tearing it down that far, also adding an HDD would not be a bad idea either.
5:38 Certified Technician😂😂😂
Likely the prior owner got an XBOX One since they were introduced in 2013.
I'm still playing my XBOX 360 until it gets kicked off XBOX Live.
XBOX 360 units will be kicked off XBOX Live not long after they remove 360 games in Oct 2022.

Achivement Unlocked: Cirtified Technician Congrats XD
You should have done a before and after temperature test of the CPU. But good and satisfying job anyway!
I did exactly same as u did last weekend... I bought 360 slim white same as u bought...
5:42 my favorite part
In general, acetone = danger. Danger to plastic surfaces, as well as being toxic to your liver (even through your skin).
Even the high % isopropyl alcohol, e.g. 90%, can affect some surfaces (perhaps cheap ones, YMMV). So best to be very careful.
I'll second the comment that the case and other parts not containing anything sensitive can be washed in warm soapy water with less work and better results than endless wiping. (Ack the note about the ordering of the video takes.)
Hugh I recomend artics mx4 if your planning on getting another thermal paste
yep, this thing will overheat a lot in a few days of use
The reason my Xbox showed a rrod (red ring of death) was because it overheated.
My Xbox 360E was overheated, so after what felt like a century of dreaming, my brother decided to step in and poke some cotton buds into the console. It worked, and still worked to this day. However, we just don't use it. I've wanted to use it, but we haven't gotten a new game after a while. And since we are abroad, I'd have to get on a plane to retrieve it. Even then, airport security will be a pain. Guess I'll have to wait 'till we go back next year.
I just came across a satin one for £10 that was on the original Metro dashboard from 2010, it was mint inside but smelled like perfume and looked to have had water damage, it was tested working so i presume the spillage had dried from sitting before i found it so i just had to touch up corrision, lucky i did as it was about to seep under the IHS and take out some resistors as it had gone through the fan grille..same as a broken Xbox one i soaked in contact cleaner and then touched up with IPA, eventually the short in that console dissappeared so for under £50 i have 2 working units!
Hey idk if you read comments or not but id be super cool to see some kind of roomba cleaning robot repair like a older model one for cheap or something
That achievement current me off guard!
The thermal paste! TronicsFix has entered the chat and he wants a word.
Watching him clean saying to myself 'dude you missed a spot' then realized it was my screen.
i cleaned my laptop yesterday the first time since i got it
and oh boy the ammount of plastic clips was truly staggering i didnt have real tools so i had to use finger
and of of course i cut my thumb on the plastic that is held in place with way to much force
you might as well dont even need to screw the thing in with the ammount of plastic clips
i droped an average of about 5C from fan cleanings thou which is nice
looks like you got the PERFECT ammount of thermal paste :D
5:38 achievement unlocked 😂
Great video
I missed this console. I've played GTA V and GTA 4: Episodes of Liberty City, thanks to this Xbox 360.
You can use tape when you use harder chemicals on the bevels.
Excellent.......as ALWAYS.
I actually enjoy watching people cleaning filthy object very very very much LOL
You found a legendary game in it mate
I had no idea how complex those are!
Imagine if we had a 1,000 Hugh Jeffreys? No more E-waste.
Remember buying 2 of them from cash converters for $2 each. $20 is cheap and bought many
Looking forward for more consoles.
I still wonder why you didn't clear the case after disassembly? Could be better and more effective.
3:12 Colonel Walter E. Kurtz: The horror... the horror...
I Never seen anything but like this one
The BOM of the latest Xbox machines are much better. The build quality of every console they have made up to this point shows.
silicone based thermal paste was a hell of an error, this console will overheat a lot after a few months. you should use a silver based one
5:25 literally how i did it back when i was like 12
