Xbox Series X DIY Repair Fail - They Almost Fixed It - Can I? I bought a broken Xbox Series X that someone else tried to fix but wasn't successful. Now I'm trying to see if I can figure out what's wrong and get this game console working again. The original problem was the HDMI port but that doesn't mean I won't discover something else is wrong as well.

Just a note about the bridged pin. In part of the video it looks like those two pins connect to the same place on the board. I can assure you that they do not.
Yes, U R right. That bridge makes no sense.
@Rosy-place0 probably a capacitor
@Rosy-place0 the power supply still has power in it even though it’s unplugged. Make sure you don’t do that again.
@Rosy-place0 Power supply even unplugged is still dangerous and can kill - capacitors. Don't touch anything inside.
@Rosy-place0 capacitor stores energy even if unplugged, common way to get a shock.
I must give the seller props for trying their own fix, and being honest in the ad.
At least partially honest
Yes agreed. They were so close to fixing it themselves!
What do you mean by partially honest? I didn't see anything that he lied about.
@@NanoMine they probably knew it would no longer power on and they damaged the ribbon cable as well.
@@NanoMine The plug for the ribbon cable was damaged, but it may have still turned on as described in the ad. I would have liked to see it turned on before Steve took it apart.
I think we have different concepts of the meaning of the word 'honest'
I thought you weren’t gonna be able to fix it for a second but then i remembered i was watching the legendary TronicsFix, repairman of ALL electronics! Such a cool and interesting fix today, MAJOR props for being able to get it working again!
"This guy must have been a farmer" made me chuckle. I'm glad you got to do some proper detective work on this one.
I like how Steve magically gets a haircut during the sponsor lol
😂 I was about to say something about that
Yes that's "HairCut Steve" as he announces himself lol
😂
Revelation 21:8 (KJV) But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
dude wtf does biblical mumbo jumbo have to do with Steve's haircut... lol
a whole channel of a guy fixing things instead of just buying new stuff. we need more of this on youtube
The demand is so high that a broken one has a higher price than retail.
Nah, it's because people have figured out you can fix these reasonably easily. You used to be able to get a "new" (released less than 6 months ago) smartphone by buying 2-3 broken phones and piecing a fully working one together for 40-60% of the retail price. Good luck trying to do that now. The rise of the repair industry wiped out those low "broken" electronics prices.
@@LiveType it still doesn't change that he paid more than retail for one that doesn't work properly
I like how Steve pointed out how the seller carefully peeled back the sticker to remove the screw.
Then proceeds to punch a hole through it.😵
Lol...it wasn't put back very well. It was stretched and wrinkled.
@@Tronicsfix I don't mean it as a insult, just wanted to point it out.
I kinda punched a hole through a warranty sticker on my gears of War controller after it drifted.
And I felt like a idiot after someone told me you could just have peeled it back.
At least I'm not planning on selling it so it doesn't matter I guess. 😮
Edit: well done on the repair.
Lol
Indeed, i was like YOU DID NOT JUST DO THAT!! :D OOF rip sticker
Great work! Love seeing you fix these with your relentlessly positive and optimistic attitude. You pick up where others gave up. Awesome!
Glad you enjoyed this!
Worst feeling when you put everything together nice and tight, and it still doesn't work. So, starts the "sadder" part
Ha, ha...yep!
Damn, frustrating repair, nice perseverance! I like how you fixed this guys HDMI Repair job, rather than just ripping it off and throwing a new HDMI port on. 👏
I actually don't think there was a problem with the chip you replaced, I think it was just coincidentally at that moment when the perfect amount of thermal paste reached it's proper break-in period.
would i have to be concerned about re-pasting more after?
I don't think that actually matters, thermal paste is still effective before break in
Thanks to the inspiration and second hand confidence you've given me, I finally decided to upgrade from fixing Gameboys/DS's and successfully fixed my first switch today. Thanks for the great content!
Congrats! Nice work
My favorite videos are when I see you put it back together, and know the video has a lot of playtime left! Also, the perfect amount of thermal paste is so satisfying to see!
It amazes me just how skilled these guys are. I could just about change a lightbulb. Let alone do something like this. Very relaxing to watch. God knows how he remembers how to put it all back together.
Great video Steve, awesome repair. Interesting to see that the retimer can cause a beep on and off on these
Xbox One X had IC retimer issues aswell, I hope MS made that the console won’t power on if the issue is the retimer as compared when my One X had the retimer issue it just booted but was a black screen. 👌🏻
How many people on the planet are smart enough to make fixes like this?...Not I.
Love the fact that you didn't end the video and give up after the second try like I would've 😭 👏 very impressive you got my sub 👍
Hi Steve, a very very very nice fix again. We are learning so much from you so thank you a lot for that. Keep it up and remember always to use the perfect amount 😁😉👍🏻
Thanks, will do!
I learn so much just from watching your videos. Your persistence is amazing
I appreciate that!
His patience is God level, I can't even concentrate for 10 minutes on anything
Big fan of the channel Steve! Huge respect, all the way from Ireland. 👍
Awesome, thank you!
12:30 Need to still make sure all the pins on the inside of the connector are there and on the correct side of the connector. They can slip above or below to the wrong side or break off. Probably not the main issue, though.
Bro I have no idea what this guy is even talking about it’s entertaining
@@lordjaashin ??????
@@lordjaashin hush
it's fine all you need to understand is that he used the perfect amount of thermal paste
I found your channel when first attempting to open and clean my PS4. Im glad I subbed because theres something so mesmerizing about watching you pull apart a console and fix microscopic little pieces
Pro-tip for anyone who wants to work on tiny things at home and doesn't have a microscope to perform/inspect their work, use a camera just about anything will work even digital zoom through a smartphone works great, which camera isn't too important what is however is getting a ring light or several lights that can illuminate the board evenly and of course having some sort of boom arm or something to hold it over your work rather than a stand sitting in the way.
Seriously, anything is better than nothing and a camera is a huge improvement over using something like a magnifying glass, maybe those head magnifiers work alright, but the good ones cost more than I'm willing to put down on something I won't be using a lot.
The other guy obviously didn't use the perfect amount of thermal paste
Or the perfect amount of flux.
Exactly!
🤣🤣🤣👍🏻
Thermal paste is no joke. When I built this computer I used an AMD Ryzen 3600 as a temporary CPU until I could find a Ryzen 5900x. I wasn't sure I did good with the thermal paste and the temps were higher than I felt were appropriate. Since it was a temp CPU I left it alone. Then I got my 5900x in and made sure I did a better job on the thermal paste. in spite of having twice the CPU cores and being a higher temperature chip, it runs 5 degrees cooler than the 3600 did. (oh and both run cooler than my old intel i7-2600 did thanks to my water cooling setup)
I don’t understand how people break new systems so quickly I still have my 360 elite from 2007 that still works perfectly and I used it every day for a long time
He is impressed with the package, and I'm impressed with how someone break an hdmi port.
Do you think we'll ever get to the point where technology components are SO small, that repair outside of a build-for-purpose factory will be next to impossible?
Yes...it's sort of already happening. More and more functions are being build into large chips on the boards.
yeah we're almost there. Have you ever worked on the Switch? Some of the components are nearly microscopic, like the little smd resistors
we're already there for the most part. Anything with a BGA is an absolute nightmare to work on without chip specific equipment. It's the reason most functions are being allocated to entire daughter boards for replacement purposes
I love how authentic these videos are.
Nice video buddy, you did a pretty good job explaining what went wrong and then remedying it.
Glad you liked it!
The people that get paid good money to fix these problems most of the time just give up , this guy and a few others I’ve watched on TH-cam go above and beyond the call to fix what those guys give up on , it’s awesome there are still people out there that want to work and do their job to the fullest , you certainly have my respect sir.
👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
That bridge doesn't cause problems because they are on the same trace. great job and a pleasure to watch.
Nope. It might look like it but they aren't. If they were connected I wouldn't have made a big deal out of it.
Hey thank you so much for uploading all these videos man! Never thought I would enjoy watching someone fix hand helds consoles and controllers. I love seeing how you explain what your looking for and so on. Please keep up the great work!
I have no idea why I enjoy these videos so much. I don't fix electronics, hell I wouldn't even enjoy doing so, it seems tedious and like itd make me crink my neck with impatience, but damn do I enjoy watching a pro do it.
Love fridays one piece scan + tronicsfix video and im good for an other week ^^
Lol “this guys must have been a farmer “ 😂
That right there tickled my fancy. I'll be using this in the future.
I was beginning to have doubts about it being repaired as the red line was near the end of video. But you fixed it.
The “stove top” Xbox One popped up in my recommendations, enjoyed that one and made my way to this video. Got a new sub! Great videos.
Finally an honest good ebay seller😅 i mean he said what he did and what was the problem and the powerbutton ribbon seems like it worked when he tested it. He probably bend it but hey it could ve easily fixed atleast. The broken chip would have been a bummer to me
That was freaking awesome!! I was literally jumping when it finally came on!!
Good video, Steve. When you pointed out those bridged pins, I thought it looked like they were connected to the same trace. If that were true, it wouldn't matter if they were bridged. But I guess my quick observation was wrong. Well done.
Yes, if that were true then it wouldn't matter.
@SPARTA FANBOY he probably has 1 or more
Man you're an electronic magician for sure
We need a TronicsFix Steve here in Italy as well ❤️
Steve never give up so easily, also he is very very calm.. This is why I wanna be friend of him...
Amazing job Steve!😀
That was a fun video with the multiple little fixes. I finally decided to sign up to a alert app for the Xbox series x and Ps5. So far I've gotten to alerts for series x but not any for Ps5
As soon as you made the hole in the sticker my heart died a little lol
I love your vids man you inspire more and more every time I watch your videos it just makes me want to repair things and I genuinely enjoy watching your content please never stop doing what you’re doing because you’re awesome man! 🔥💕
3:41 - extra crispy motherboard right there 🙈
Haircut Steve 🤣🤣🤣
Really great job and how patient you was and didn't give up until you fixed it I really appreciate that well done 👍😀
Push those subs! We are near to 1 Milion, let's make this very good guy even happier🖤
Steve, you should upload videos more often. I'm tired of watching your old videos ;) JK, I know how much time consuming those videos are so keep up the great work :)
This guy is proof that we don’t need to throw out electronics when they break, just replace the broken part and voila.
I am still just amazed by the awesome engineering that Microsoft put into the design of this console. So compact and neat.
they probably steal the concept to a small compagie like usual and sue them to make them stop producing it for copyrighting
@@jimbodanssondodge1011 A small company making what? This is a console design, not a small form factor PC design, for example, which could be something a small company might manufacture.
I knew it!!! He is The Man!!! Blessing to You My Friend!!!
Superb job Steve, absolutely awesome and huge respect from Germany🙌🏻👍
I really like watching your videos. It really helps me a lot on fixing my video game consoles. 👍🏼
Oh i almost give up. 😱 Nice one Steve 🤗
these are the best videos. Fixing someone else's fix is quite the journey!
As usual never disappointed by the ending. It's like a good film with a happy ending, ahaha
Wow! Great trouble-shooting, patience, and persistence. Experience and knowledge helps too. Impressed...
That was close. I
Could tell you was running out of options. But so cool to watch you figure it out
5:30 these pins are connected together on the PCB... so a solder bridge between them can't be a problem.
Nice work Steve keep up the hard work!
Thanks, will do!
I'm so intrigued to see this channel to receive gold play button.....
it's almost there....
😊😊✨✨✨
"Those two pins that were bridg'ed". It's like ancient Salem up in here, lol.
Yes, love these video's i'm subbed to your channel 🤗
I've built and repaired servers and computers all my life, but never opened an XBox. Good stuff.
What a professional Steve is!! Great fix
572 USD for a non working Xbox Series X?
Damn, can you buy my broken stuff too?
Fantastic video, you're the best fixer on TH-cam. Every time all the steps are clear.
But I have a doubt: isn't $ 572 a bit too much for a broken console without a controller?
How much does the new Xbox Series X cost in the US?
In Italy it costs € 499 ($ 587) including VAT (22%).
I can't believe I felt like cheering when the Xbox came on. This is like the Olympics for tech.
I always get tense just before testing.
Great job sir, as usual !
Can’t believe the guy didn’t send the controller as well lol . Very interesting to watch.
Yess
I myself am a fixed since last year.
Repaired my Television, Desktop and so much more. I must say I could have not been able to fix some but mostly I fixed 🙂
Your tips help too, a lot of times😁
That's awesome! Love hearing stuff like this.
These are so fun to watch, you make the repairs look easy to do with no experience when that’s not really the case😅
Nicely done! I love all your videos.
Well done!! Great troubleshooting! You make it look so easy!
Thanks! Glad you like it.
@5:21 you can see the solder bridge isn't an issue since the traces are connected on the board
No, they're not connected. It might look like they are but they are not
Yes!!yes!! It's fixed that feeling I when something is fixed, and you smile
This is interesting how this power on and off issue was caused by that chip. I've seen this issue once already and assumed it was caused by this but this was so early on in the consoles life compared to now that parts just weren't available for it.
I was worried after the first time of it not turning on, good job finding the issue..... it’s always the perfect amount of thermal paste
I love this show its like my child hood. Do you miss RadioShack as much as me?
Interesting video. Good to see you find out what's going on.
great video but will you ever do repairs on older console like the xbox 360s or ps3s? i find those entertaining to watch
Soon to have 1mil subs hope u get it by the end of the year
Hey Steve, nice one. Been a while since I last commented, but keep 'em coming!
Thanks! Thanks for the comment
Beautiful work dude!
The end surprised me.. You are just amazing!
I'd love to learn how to fix things like you do 😄
I already started with some DS Lites and fixed 4. Then I fixed some more little stuff, but to do more, I should really learn how to solder properly, but I have shaky hands and low budget for tools..
Any raccomandations for a good soldering iron or kit?
Would be nice if you would send this video to the seller so he knows what he could have done differently. Great video
"Bridge'd... bridge'd?" - Great fix Steve 😂😁
Lol
I am still amazed at how they could solder such small pins without bridging the connections and here I am having issues soldering some small capacitors which are still larger than those pins from the HDMI port and I am still having a hard time preventing it from bridging.
I'm pretty confident that you put just as much if not more thermal paste on than the previous person did 🤫
I haven't watched this channel for a while now and it seems i've missed a lot and i have a lot of videos to catch up on.
Wish I had even a 1/2% of this dudes patience
Love your vids steve keep it up
Thanks! Will do
Good troubleshooting Steve!
I wonder if the seller sees this video and appreciates learning what they didn't do correctly
