Hi Scotty I have a 2012 Nissan Murano vehicle was driving perfectly until one day it stop. no crank no start but the speedometer works, I saw the key symbol on the speedometer when it’s on somebody says it’s a security issue, I check the vehicle has no steering actuator, battery is good starter is good fuel pump works all fuses good . Any thoughts what the issue is?
My very first car was a 2006 Nissan Murano S FWD, bought it for $6000 as well with 110K miles, and made it up to 193K miles still running perfectly fine, and decided to buy a newer car. Fingers cross CVT holds up. I didn't read about the 09 issues until after I bought it. However other 09s I was looking at where around 200,000 km and going strong. Bought mine with 118,000km.
@@Squatch76 still fine, power steering pump died and was a nightmare to change. Another issue I ran into is it likes to flood when it gets below 0c. I assume it's a leaky injector seal. But if you put the gas pedal to the floor while starting, it turns off the injectors and clears the flooded cylinder while cranking. Then starts up like normal. I wish I would have known that trick when it first started doing that.

My mother in law purchased a 2021 murano. Around 6 months later the seatbelts started to have serious complications hooking. Not to mention it stuttered and completely shut off when starting to cross a rural bridge like it was in shock (I guess it had to get its bearings to cross it because I couldn't start it up for a good minute.) I'm thinking it wasn't programmed for that situation because Google maps didn't know the location very well(?). Also, it will brake unnecessarily sometimes, especially if someone in the lane next to you turns on their signal light to turn opposite of you. On top of that, when my dog lays his head down close to the shifter, it moves it from drive, usually into 2nd gear, while I'm driving (I drive it the most since my mother in law is up in age, yet she just had to have a new car. She had a great one, old, but low miles she sold cheap to someone in the family for their daughter, well, the daughter checked the oil about as good as my husband does so the low mileage engine didn't make it.) I could probably go on. I personally would've done something by now but, you'd have to know my husband and mother in law 😳😂
06 Murano with 165K, trans was replaced at 116-118K under the wire by Nissan. I've heard a few knowledgeable folks advising to do trans fluid/screen changes at 35K if you want to give them a better than average chance of going a decent interval before failing. Cheap insurance for a 4-5k repair.
I have a 2007 Nissan Murano SL AWD with 150k miles. I bought it 1 year ago for $5k and I’ve already put $4k into it in repairs (car drove amazing when I first bought it). It’s in the shop right now for the 2nd time within 2 weeks for the transmission. I find out in a few days if the transmission is done for good or not. ANYWAY, for close to a year, I’ve been hearing this strange almost grinding noise where my left front wheel area is. Specifically when I’m going slow and or turning into a parking spot/drive through. I was told by multiple shops there’s nothing wrong with it with the car. The grinding and crazy noises have been getting worse, and happening at all times when I was driving. the worst was today and sounded like the car was about to fall apart so I took it in right away. Well, this whole time I’ve been thinking it’s the wheel area but it’s actually the transmission making these crazy sounds, mimicking noises that was almost similar to a bad wheel bearing or something similar in that area. Definitely wasn’t expecting them to say it’s the transmission at all. Just putting that out there for anyone that may be experiencing this and not getting answers/being told the car is fine. Because all this time, the transmission has gotten worse for a year straight when it could’ve been fixed before it got this bad. I hope maybe this will help someone since I’m now in a bad situation with the car
Paid 3k for an 07 murano fully loaded 170k on it and no cosmetic issues in or out.it's got 190k on it now.the cvt is still working great. haven't had to do anything to it yet except oil changes.it's all about maintenance.
I love Nissan. Only vehicle I own. I never had any problems with the ones I own. I currently own 5. 3 from the 1980's & 2 that are 2020 (Versa and Altima).
This is comforting to hear. I drive a 2012 Murano that I bought new. It has 57,000 miles and I’m planning to change the CVT fluid and both filters. It has been extremely reliable the last 11 years.
How fast are you pulling out in traffic? If your spinning tires your beating up your vehicle. Not going to last as long as possible..when i pull out with my v8 pickup i almost never have to accelerate quickly. Thats why it is 20 years old and still lasting..beating up on a vehicle and jack rabbit starts will definately not last that long.
I have a 07 nissan fx35 and always going to the local shop. I always see on the display what cars are in and I asked the guy, I see a lot of nissans in here for repair and he said BINGO!
Bought a 2014 Nissan Murano SL AWD with 20k from Carmax, with taxes and extended 3rd party warranty. Well, the "central brain" sh*t the bed and CVT needed to be replaced. Luckily bought the best warranty they had so $8k of repairs was entirely covered. Now im up above 103k miles and since the overhall at 40k ive had ony minor problems. AWD was a godsend when we had our snowpocalypse in central Texas where we have no snowplows or winter weather infrastructure. Love the handling of the vehicle, although sometimes it can be a little too responsive to the bumps of the road (by are meant to handle a little more sporty) Never had it out on sand but i think i will try it out this summer
I bought a 2009 Murano new in 2009. My wife and I both love the vehicle. Our CVT had to be replaced after 11 years and 140,000 miles. I didn't think that was too bad. I have had other new vehicles in the past and on some of them the transmission didn't last 100K miles.
I wouldn't even take a gamble buying that. I told my friend to go back to Nissan and tell them he knows about all the problems they have with their CVT transmissions cause they were trying to charge him a fortune to replace his. They agreed to do it for 3000 dollars so he got it replaced. He got it back from the dealership and then it sounds like it has a exhaust manifold leak.
I have an 07 Murano with ~175k miles and it has been an "OK" car... not great.. just OK. I had to put a new power steering hose on recently (common problem with certain years), change the oil cooler gasket (another common problem but easy fix), change a couple of those fluid filled motor mounts (a royal pain), replace a couple of ignition coils, and repeatedly snake out my sunroof drains to prevent it from leaking inside the car (PITA to access exit side of drain). The plugs are also a bear since you have to take off the intake manifold to access the back 3 in the transverse V6 but only have to change every 100k-ish. I have also had a couple of drain and fills on the CVT since I got it used ~2012. It survived a regular 75-90 minute commute (one way) for several years in the bay area without stranding me. Fortunately, I have been able to complete the repair/maintenance work myself. If it makes it to 200k with the CVT intact I will be satisfied. I have always been paranoid about the crappy CVT so I am gentle on the accelerator. It is a FWD and I did notice it was made in Japan so maybe that helps? I am not sure where the newer ones are made/assembled. Like Scotty said, just don't pay too much.
Scotty, you might think about possibly partnering with someone and writing a quality book on the use of your ‘fancy’ diagnostic scan tool. Or writing one yourself. With your 50+ years of experience and your communication skills, you might be able to make a go of it. I’ve looked around and can’t seem to find one, so maybe the field is open. You could contact a publisher and test the waters. They might be able to suggest an experienced writer to assist. After it is written, you could tell everyone about it and really get a jump on everyone else.
CVT WARRANTY EXTENDED .. In Dec 2021, I bought a fully loaded 2018 Rogue SL (manufactured in Japan) with 22,000 miles. Now 7,000 miles put on it and no reliability issues. The original drive train warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles which of course includes the CVT. However in Feb 2023, Nissan sent me a letter that the CVT warranty was extended to 7 years/84,000 miles to "… address concerns … expressed by plaintiffs in class action litigation". Now I feel much better about the purchase.
I find your channel very informative. I personally have never owned a new car. Meaning anything past 95. I tried however the problem is with the prices of new vehicles being what they are and the fact that when you goto a new car dealership for this high cost they are only willing to give you options like leather seats and the like. If i going to pay the ammount of money they are asking for a new car. I want it the way i want the car not the way they feel like giving it to me. The last time i tried to buy a new car was 1993. I whent to the dealership prepaired to buy it right then. Having worked in a shop i told them how i wanted the car. They told me it was not possible to get a new mustang the way i wanted it. So to this day i have never owned a new car and probably never will. If a new car (2021 model) does not come with a carb and a manual choke, ill stick with putting it together myself. I have worked on these new plasti mobiles and for the price they are asking ill either get it the way i want it or not at all ! Looking at how these modern expensive throw away junk mobiles age, i dont think im missing much.
Scotty I really like this video, but 90% of those codes are likely set because the battery died at some point. Clear codes and see what comes back, also Fluid Pressure Low code in the TCM means the CVT is about to take a dump. If you go into Data Monitor for the TCM and monitor CVT-A and CVT-B it should always be 0, CVT-A/B is NOT 0 then there has been either overheated fluid or internal damage to the CVT.
I bought a 2013 for 14k with barely 100k miles only major maintenance I’ve done is tires and wheel alignment small maintenance was tire sensor got it ran on the computer only code that popped up is anti brake locking or something like that

Dealing with our 2005 Murano AWD SL model, the A/C doesn't work, rust on the rear wheel wells, oil leaks with these VQ35DE engines, and I had to drill several holes in the back to get some nuts to hold the striker in place for the rear door. Oh, and the exhaust pipe assembly is completely separated from the rest of the pipe in the back so it needs a whole new exhaust system with new catalytic converters. (The cats are notorious for getting plugged up)
They put cvt transmission in almost everything now and they put that start stop switch in almost everything as well . But I’ve have cars with the cvt transmissions and never had a problem with them .
I just bought a 09 Murano and didn't know anything about this until i accidentally stumbled upon this video! The car performs great (236,000) miles currently and i don't know if the previous owner ever changed the transmission fluid before. Should i leave it alone? Or drain and replace? Thanks
I been fixing and maintaining my inlaws nissan Murrano 2009 everytime we fixed problem there is always new things to fixed , From Steering system, shocks and struts Calipers, power steering, Starter, Alternator, Pressure hose, Returning hose dangs now Radiator all in one year of ownership 😂
I had the 09 murano after 6 years 102k I had to let her go trans sound weird, upon acceleration noise coming from timing chain guides according to my mechanic. Very comfortable car though. Love it never get stuck.
I didn’t like the CVT models since Hyundai Accent 2016 and Nissan Sentra. I love my Nissan Sunny 2012 Red Color and Beige Interior. The suspensions are soft and the AC is like Freezer.
Love your vids, I just made a trade in deal on my 2010 Jeep Liberty Sport. I've had it for almost 5 years now, but no floor heat and other issues started showing up. But I'm getting a 2013 Murano SV, and when I worked at a Nissan Dealership 2 yrs ago I fell in love with them. I rather get into the Murano then keep this Liberty, only because I've been told once the 3.7 hits 140xxx miles they are know to have major engine issues. It has been good though up until a few months ago, great in the snow and off road. But no longer need a vehicle for that, I bought a quad for all my off road needs now. But appreciate your view on these!
I have a 2012 Nissan Murano with 225,000 miles and have had it since buying it with 40,000. I keep the oil changed and tires rotated religiously. So far, it's been reliable. Other than regular maintenance like changing breaks, the only problems I've had have been door actuators. I did have to change the cv-joint axels; both at over 170,000 miles. I had the transmission fluid replaced once and thought for a while that it ruined it, but has since settled back down; wont do it again. Anyway, I hope the year is one of the better ones, but not sure. I drive a 100 mies a day round trip to work, but don't drive it rough. Normally, cruise control at 70 mph or less since gas is higher. What are your thoughts? Did I just bet lucky or do I have a decent year vehicle?
How many miles did you have when you changed the transmission fluid? Did you do a flush or a drain and fill? I'm debating this too, on my 2012 with 127k miles.
You should religiously replace your transmission fluid around every 30k miles with a CVT transmission! The fact you've gone *that* many miles only ever maintaining it a single time, is why it reacted that way with new fluid. CVT transmissions should be maintained frequently, not every couple hundred thousand miles.

Although I heard that they wine a little 🍷👈😂

Everything on my 2011 Nissan Murano mechanically still works. Accept for the trans I had to replace
Happy Friday Scotty! Man is that ever true lol! 🏁

I got an 09 Venza for $6 grand 6 months ago. I changed all fluids . runs great at 180 thousand miles. Runs like a ⏰ clock. Great investment
Damn
That's good information though hopefully you have better luck with your next vehicle

2012 Toyota Highlanders with 175000 miles are still going for over $10k.
Goes to show how much less Nissans are worth on the market, new or used.
But Toyota are the cheapest feeling tin cans .......btw Nissan never murdered people with out of control cars with stuck pedals.
I love Nissan. Only vehicle I own. I never had any problems with the ones I own. I currently own 5. 3 from the 1980's & 2 that are 2020 (Versa and Altima).
I found 2012 and 2013 were the best for the cvt. My 2012 has 210,000 kms and drive perfectly fine.
This is comforting to hear. I drive a 2012 Murano that I bought new. It has 57,000 miles and I’m planning to change the CVT fluid and both filters. It has been extremely reliable the last 11 years.
My 2012 has 260,000 kms and drives great. although I learned today the transfer case can by a problem for these vehicles.
Love the AWD on my Rouge because the wheels almost never spin when pulling into traffic, and even if they do, the car tracks straight.
@@ronaldarchibald2506 If you live in medium size city, from time to time you will have to accelerate to get into traffic.

Okay, that's enough liquor for awhile; you've had way too much.
I’m confused. We have a 2014 Altima with 144k miles and still drives with no problems. Depends on how you drive and maintenance.
Love the handling of the vehicle, although sometimes it can be a little too responsive to the bumps of the road (by are meant to handle a little more sporty)
Never had it out on sand but i think i will try it out this summer
Afternoon Scotty awesome video!
hello and thanks!
I bought a 2009 Murano new in 2009. My wife and I both love the vehicle. Our CVT had to be replaced after 11 years and 140,000 miles. I didn't think that was too bad. I have had other new vehicles in the past and on some of them the transmission didn't last 100K miles.
So you were okay with over $5000 for a new CVT?
Cvt transmission...oil change always every 30 k ... don't flush it...
Love the album in the background......The Who's .....Who's next? "Won't get fooled again" must be your theme song!
That’s not ok. Way too much crap to deal with
You don’t have to baby it. The maintenance schedule has to be on time. Over 200k and led foot.
every time I scan a Nissan.. it always has a ton of errors!!
How about Toyota and Hondas
Same thing.@@felmin809
Scotty, you might think about possibly partnering with someone and writing a quality book on the use of your ‘fancy’ diagnostic scan tool. Or writing one yourself. With your 50+ years of experience and your communication skills, you might be able to make a go of it. I’ve looked around and can’t seem to find one, so maybe the field is open. You could contact a publisher and test the waters. They might be able to suggest an experienced writer to assist. After it is written, you could tell everyone about it and really get a jump on everyone else.

My 2014 Nissan versa 2 years ago for $6000, with 25000 miles. Manual trans, window and door locks. Not bad IMHO
Now I feel much better about the purchase.
i have a 04 Murano 160,000 miles trans works great had it for years no issues
My buddy got’s a Nissan Murano with 245,000 miles with original engine and Transmission no problem.

Thank you Scotty for actually talking good about Nissan!
(The cats are notorious for getting plugged up)
Thanks for all your videos, I watch them all the time. Love the Information.
They put cvt transmission in almost everything now and they put that start stop switch in almost everything as well . But I’ve have cars with the cvt transmissions and never had a problem with them .

Never flush! always just drain and fill
You should religiously replace your transmission fluid around every 30k miles with a CVT transmission! The fact you've gone *that* many miles only ever maintaining it a single time, is why it reacted that way with new fluid. CVT transmissions should be maintained frequently, not every couple hundred thousand miles.
New fluid acts like a detergent...It was in no danger. You have to flush it out and change the filters on time.
