    1:54 I’ve always called them “Punctuated snares” or “Punctuation snares” because that’s kind of what they do to the 3rd quarter beat, and then again after the 4th quarter note, like a period ending the sentence (loop).

      @Ryan.Anderson80 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sidechain them to bassinets I meant to say. Thankw

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yo! Well (not shown in this video) sometimes I bounce out stems. So, top loop, snare loop, kick loop, etc. and I can sidechain/mix and match that way. But generally what I'll do instead is leave the MIDI pattern, and copy that over to a new channel to act as a SC trigger just using a kick sound or something that's not sent to the output buss.

    • @Ryan.Anderson80
      @Ryan.Anderson80 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VenusTheory okay so muting the SC trigger channel will stop that sound being heard and still activate the sidechain, or do you simply turn the volume down on that channel?

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah so I just set the output to be none, but use the 'send' to send that signal to trigger the sidechain.

    This was a dope tutorial bro, appreciate u for these tips!!
    question though...in terms of making this into a full track...any tips in regards
    to how to match the key of your kick to the track ur about to make, this is where i fall down and it takes me
    ages just to make sure the kick drum is sitting in key with the rest of track, or is it just best to start of with the beat 1st..analyse the kick drum
    then take it from there whilst you build ,so it sits nicely together, because kicks not in key with the rest of the production doesn't sound great!!
    lol
    Hope i'm making sense,
    Thanks again😎👊🏾

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video! As for mono/stereo, the samples have some stereo information so I usually leave things as stereo. Case by case though, depends on what you're doing/using!

    • @apfelnymous5367
      @apfelnymous5367 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VenusTheory Thank you dude, so I have gone a similiar path as far as I could with the elements version, what I am facing right now it: When you got the sliced up samples in groove agent se, you cannot play the samples on your keyboard and pitch them with the pitch wheel, can you ? (like for some jungle stuff you might wanna do that) But if you use the sampler track you can, you can even slice the loop up in there if you own the newest sampler track version.

    Fantastic tutorial as always.
    Any recommendations for learning more dnb patterns?

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yo! Thanks dude! As for patterns, a lot of DnB patterns stem from drum breaks in funk records. So, I'd check out some DnB breaks loops on youtube (or get the giant free pack from MusicRadar and/or some of the Dogs on Acid packs) and study those. You can also just slow down some DnB grooves to get an idea of the placement of different elements. But, as always, experiment! What makes a lot of DnB drums cool is how you mess around with the groove in interesting ways.

    Hey Cam,
    Are those level meters showing peak or RMS?

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey dude! The meters in the mixer should be peak values I'm pretty sure. I haven't changed any of the settings for that, so I'm pretty certain the default is peak and not RMS.

    What if you wanna side chain your kick with the bassline? Can you do that after recording the track with groove agent?

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yo! In the case of that, I'd set up a separate sidechain trigger with white noise and match the midi to the kick.

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha no worries! With the ghost notes, you can experiment quite a bit with the placement - watching videos of drummers (if you don't play yourself) is a good way to understand where/why the ghost notes fall in the groove.

    Shouldn't every elements be on his own channel while mixing ? how do you mix a whole loop like that correctly ?

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yo! Well generally what I'll do is bounce these out as stems (top loop, kick loop, etc) to balance them further, but sometimes I'll just leave it as-is for a more 'rough and raw' feel - just depends on the track. That said I generally don't bounce to audio until much later in the stage of the song (well after the instruments and stuff are done) so I can get a more appropriate level balance before bouncing to audio and reslicing it in another instance of GA.

      Mostly just because I've been using it for so long, and prefer the workflow it offers compared to the other DAWs I've used over the years. Plus, it just works better for a lot of the applications that I need outside pure music making like sound design and voiceover stuff and offers a lot of cool tools like direct offline processing and variaudio. That said, I'm heavily looking into Bitwig at the moment as it offers a lot of what I like about Ableton but functions more like Cubase.
