Lon, thank you. I'll refer my friends and family to look over this video. You have addressed all concerns and provided proper solutions to both use another service as well as stay with Zoom with increased security if your organization has already invested in it as the go-to solution and you are not the decision-maker in the company.
As usual very clear and precise presentation. I went to try Jitsi but found it has issues with the cameras. I was not the only one with the problem but many others are experiencing it also. Be great if this issue could be resolved.
Jitsi utilizes some browser features which are currently not well supported in Firefox. If a Firefox user joins your conference it can greatly impact the number of users the conference can support and the reliability of the connection for all users and not just the Firefox user.
been using jitsi for ages - its terrific, but there is a limitation in that jitsi meet lets everyone have admin rights, rather than what you would expect, the person starting the room only has them. Fine if you have complete control of participents. You can get around that by having your own sever, but that starts to cost money
KOSAMA GAMES that’s the great thing about Jitsi. Zoom and Teams (especially) require lots of setup to get user accounts setup. With Jitsi you just need a browser. Boom.
I had discovered Jitsi a little over a month ago before all of this covid stuff went down. I had been looking for an alternative to zoom and also an alternative to Skype for business. I work on a University campus in Canada as part of the IT department in the audio visual. The head of the IT department is a very skilled online security expert who has worked for large financial institutions as a Cyber security tech. She had issues with Zoom so I went looking for an alternatives.
Great video. Many thanks for creating it! There is also a list of platforms that are enabling break-out rooms and using Jitsi. Just Google Break-out room for Jitsi :)
Excellen info, Lon, thanks much. I guess Duo is end-to end encrypted, and very easy to use. What do you think of it? The features are not what a large business might want, seems to me, but for home use looks pretty good, or am I all wet? Stay well, peace.
This is the problem with closed software platforms in general. The LLC that own them only look to the bottom line and not the safety well being of there customers. I always look to open source whenever I can.
They will likely be more secure now that they are addressing the issues and security researchers are looking through their software with a fine-tooth comb. Security through obscurity isn't always the best way to go.
Thank you for the video. I m curious if jitsi will work efficiently with 100+ participant? For a web conference for example? Or teaching to a large class
Thank you for the video. It’s so easy to start a meeting with Jitsi! I also installed Jitsi meet in cloud and invited few friends but the video quality is questionable when there are more than two participants. Hope things will get better.
It sounds like you hit the limit of what you configured for the cloud server. You might need a little more horsepower for larger groups to process the video.
Nice. Thank you. You did Jitsi and Google Meet, how about Cisco Webex as there is more and more interest out there for alternatives. Cisco's Webex is well known in the large enterprise space, used by corporations, banks, and government, but many consumers and small businesses don't think of Webex or even know Cisco has been offering a free version of Webex now to help them thought this pandemic, and there is no 40 minute limit either! Use it as much as you like. There's not a better deal or more secure solution out there, and it is easy to use and get started.
Thanks for the great public service! I'd been thinking of Zoom, but will think a bit more ... Uninstalled it! Seems to me there's more than sloppy development there. do I pick up on some 'accidental' security rat-holes? O, surely not!
Put a price I had a few clients over the last half decade that chose to go the Zoom route because they didn't want to have to pay the licensing required for WebEx. The experience was always a bit subpar in my opinion when it comes to Zoom. Then of course now you keep on top of it all this garbage from the security perspective and I just can't understand why people right now would bother to risk using it.
THANK YOU !!!!!! I will be an active subscriber to your channel, you have such great content. Have you thought about researching Blue Jeans? I need an app for conferenceing and I want to move away from Zoom because participants in meetings are getting confused. because this is business use I do not want risk delaying a meeting because the website is busy. Looking very hard at Blue Jean
Thanks. Am desperately looking into Zoom alternative. Can Jitsi beused to teach, ie does it have a whiteboard and can it upload files from the computer which participants can view?
Jitsi's stable release is over 3 years old, yikes. Doesn't seem to be getting a lot of maintenance from the developers. Moving to it from Zoom is going from the security frying pan into the security fire.
I wish you wouldn't claim Zoom security issues and then 1st thing show that Jitsi has the same "issue". The issue is a client decision making issue.. if you did the same process that people did with Zoom like sharing the full meeting URL that included the ID you'd have the same issue. Someone was not guessing Zoom ID's, they were finding the link in public forums. If you decided to leave your door unlocked and broadcast the door was open, would you claim that Yale or Schlage left you unsecure??
Jitsi was originally an XMPP messenger, a protocol also used by Jabber. The new conferencing service by Jitsi has nothing to do with that anymore though.
Total amateur here. Why is working through the browser a good thing? I saw one comment about Zoom to the effect that it working independent of the browser was one of its merits.
Can i use Jitsi meet for a meeting with 25 people at the ssame time? if not with how many can i use it at the same time or can you advuse me another App i can use for free? Thnx,
Your presentation and speaking skills are great but I can’t help but think the “old” background is hurting you. The colours look drab and boring giving a less than modern feel
He knows his market. Notice the electronics on the shelves behind. It's all retro-nostalgia. That's his market. It's consistent, and, IMO, works. In fact, it was my seeing a Newton in the background that got me to subscribe to him in the first place.
but on the iPad you are stuck with the lockdown junk that is IOS. IOS is a joke as far as I'm concerned. I'll take open source Android any day! It's incredibly easy to make a platform work when that platform is controlled by one authoritarian company.
Lon, thank you. I'll refer my friends and family to look over this video. jitsi is awesome, i almost paid for the other services, thank you Lon

Excellent review!, thanks a lot. It has resolved all the issues and worries I had with zoom and how to use jitsi.
You can have your own server for Jitsi and have no limitations with the live-streaming
Make a video on how to host jitsi on your own server(beginner style)? that would be interesting coming from you
8X8 used to be called Packet 8. They've been around since before Vonage in the Voip space.
Ahhhh.. Now that rings a bell
I selected 8x8 once for a startup I was involved with, I did like the service.
We use 8x8 for our support help number that people call into and then it sends out to all tech cell phones. Who ever is free answers

Thank you for sharing this service!
Can you use a external mixer for your listeners with DJ Equipment
We are using Jitsi for our Linux workgroup meetings on Monday evening. No real problems.
You must have a lot of computer literate people, cause we can't even get people to use Teams and Zoom properly at my job.
KOSAMA GAMES that’s the great thing about Jitsi. Zoom and Teams (especially) require lots of setup to get user accounts setup. With Jitsi you just need a browser. Boom.
Service is good, that logo is something...

Cool story bro
Great video. Many thanks for creating it! There is also a list of platforms that are enabling break-out rooms and using Jitsi. Just Google Break-out room for Jitsi :)

Veertly offers this functionality based on Jitsi, plus enables interactive networking sessions, polls and more!

Jitsi is good, but they need to add the feature screen sharing in phone too ( from phone tab you can’t share screen)
Jitsi seems to be good, what is the limit on participant and time?
hello, i find like zoom but the app that i am look for include homework control and of course live stream. thanks the video
Thanks so much for this video! Looking around for best options that will share to facebook LIVE. Any other suggestions?
Jitsi works optimally only on Google Chrome. Other browsers are out of luck.
If you have any security issues with Zoom, call the NSA. They can do a data recovery. 😂
Keep calm and COVFEFE

My only gripe with Webex is that like Zoom it forces a software install on participants that's not necessary.
Thanks for the great public service! I'd been thinking of Zoom, but will think a bit more ... Uninstalled it! Seems to me there's more than sloppy development there. do I pick up on some 'accidental' security rat-holes? O, surely not!
I use this quite a bit, try Streamyard also.
Great video. So, just to be clear... I can record a video meeting direct to my Dropbox - without having to livestream to TH-cam first?
Yes

Thorough Information. Just the details to know!!

Another in depth video... You never disappoint... Cheers
Does Jitsi allow posting screen shots from a PowerPoint? Thanks for another great video.
Yeah, just present your screen.
@@MikeTrieu Thanks for your help.
You can also download the server software and make your own server.
Yes we talk about that in the video :)
Low bandwidth option on video for slow speed internet

It's a lot easier to guess Zoom numbers (which is happening) vs. using a much more secure alphanumeric meeting ID.
Jitsi seems not to work well with over 10 or 15 participants. For small meetings it's great.
Its awesome! I love it!!
Hi does it have a time limit for video conference?
Jitsi would be cool if they combined it with Jabber perhaps. Maybe with a discord like mode option.
Jitsi was originally an XMPP messenger, a protocol also used by Jabber. The new conferencing service by Jitsi has nothing to do with that anymore though.
@@ToumalRakesh It actually uses XMPP in the background for account control so you can password protect the ability to start meetings as well.
Mike Trieu j
Great video.
Thoughts about gotomeeting?
12:44 In the second last point, why is there even an option to scan randomly for meetings to join ? Why should that even be allowed ?
It's not a feature but people "war dial" looking for active conferences.
Must be something like social media. It's for people with friends and stuff.
Edit: Now that I know what it is it's pretty cool. Zooming or whatever.
does jitsi have polling features?
It does not but I'm not sure if that's something that can be added to the self-hosted version.
@@LonSeidman thx. will check it out
I don’t see In the video description the amazon link to follow you live
You need chrome or firfox
I don't think is too secure
Total amateur here. Why is working through the browser a good thing? I saw one comment about Zoom to the effect that it working independent of the browser was one of its merits.
Because you don't have to install some random code in your environment? I would think the merits of that alone would be obvious in terms of security.
It's always updated as well. Updates are often not just for features but security as well. Always updated means less of those security flaws.
It is pretty good
Will Jitsi ever implement proper "raise hand" feature (unlike the current one where participant can unmute without moderator permission)?
There's an option called "Mute everyone", if I remember well enough
Jitsi consumes three times more data than zoom and others
This is nothing more then what we are seeing out of WDC and the WH
Zoom all ready had a "certain security history".
The last month there was just more focus on it.
Ciro Morra thx for letting me know!😀
Looks a good program
Can i use Jitsi meet for a meeting with 25 people at the ssame time? if not with how many can i use it at the same time or can you advuse me another App i can use for free? Thnx,
It should handle 25
There are no technical limits to the number of users or length of the meeting. The limits are the server's capacity and the network bandwidth.
I think jitsi is laggy, on the same network and hardware as zoom.
You missed the point. Self host it. The public server is mainly there as a live demo. When it’s self hosted it rocks.
Don’t use zoom
But....Zoom is free?
Khira Jones - the basic account of Zoom comes with a 40 minute call limitation for up to 200 users I believe.
Thx for letting me know!😀😀
Free as in Freedom perhaps.
wow, Zoom sucks
