We used ms teams... Today for a staff meeting... at a local government... had 17 people in on the meeting. Worked great!

That app though has a lot of other problems, but so far its either that or slack.
But for Teams you can't rename folders if you change the channel name so it throws my staff app, the other thing that's weird is you can't change the tagline underneath the title in Microsoft Teams unless you have a admin account. But today I found out you can edit it but only through mobile???
Also you can't upload files through the app you have to use the desktop version and some of our staff members don't have computers since smartphones are so prevalent so they have to upload through the sharepoint.
Just some things they should fix to make it perfect but I like Teams so far the best. I wish both services had a vast store like something in Wordpress or at least the voice technology Discord uses to cut back on feedback.

Good stuff Lon, especially the tips on meeting etiquette, like acoustic treatment in meeting rooms, online meeting etiquette is usually the first thing to be ignored in a business environment.

The way you can share documents on a Google Meet meeting is by creating it through a Google Calendar event and adding video conferencing to it. Then you can add attachments or links in the description of the event. In the meeting apps or website interface, users will see the linked/attached docs (on the lower left I believe).

Hi Lon, I had been looking at how we can migrate my son-in-laws weekly Pub Quiz from Zoom to TH-cam Live. Just watched this video and it’s was all here in detail. Got it all setup tonight ready for 8:30pm tomorrow night. Can’t thank you enough!

In the company I work for we use Zoom and by all means, we are not a large enterprise. We use it every morning in a scrum, just to say hi to each other and support each other in these different times. Once a week we have a hands-on meeting like a town hall. The first week the larger meeting had some startup issues and was still good to follow. Last week that meeting became very garbled and there are not enough tools for the host and you are dead on Lon, the app is installing and most people don't even use it as they join over the web connection. We have now enforced passwords on the meetings so that we do not have "drop-ins" and we need to be extremely vigilant to not have outsiders bomb the meeting. There is always one or two that have no clue what they are doing and keep their video going while they go to the coffee maker or worse (yes!!!! it did happen from a number 2). The morning meeting is lead by the team manager and I have to keep coaching him but he is learning and we have feedback conversations. It is a scrum, it is not a 2-hour meeting.

Great video. Google Meet really needs to sort out the "public" live stream to TH-cam as you say. I work in local gov and we have had Gsuite Enterprise since 2011 and we are now required in the UK to live stream our official meetings to the public. Raised with Google, but no success...

Yes, you can add documents in Google Meet, you just have to add them to a Google Calendar Event first, and then they will be available in the Meet.

Zoom traffic runs through a Chinese server. There's a little company in Washington called Microsoft. They have a free application called "Teams". When using Teams, it's doubtful someone will interrupt your conversation and threaten bodily harm. Those scenarios were documented many times with Zoom.

I can understand your concern Zoom security issues last year regarding Apple devices but as you, yourself said, Apple didn't wait for Zoom to fix it, Apple fixed it. End of concern. Also, downloading an "app" to a device is no big deal. I work with an organization of people who are 65 and over. I have many people in my Zoom meetings who are actually into their 80's! After researching ways to join a meeting i.e., via a browser or an email that contains a link directly to the meeting, I have found the email to be the very easiest way. I complied a 5 Step program to assist my meeting participants. Step One is to download the Zoom app a day or two BEFORE the meeting. For first time zoomers, downloading the app well ahead of time, reduces anxiety about coming into the meeting on time. It also eliminates any possibility of embarrassing moments. In the meetings I have had with my Senior Citizen continuing education organization, we have had minimal to none incidents. Everyone was able to get right on. We have 15 to 23 people in on a meeting at one time.
One more thing...I let everyone know that I am available for a "practice meeting" if they would like to do that before our actually committee meeting. I have had a couple of people take me up on that offer. That results in meeting attendees who are much more comfortable on the day of the meeting and are much more likely to participate fully.
Zoom is FUN! It's enables me to see all my 5 grown children, 13 grandchildren and 4 little great grandchildren. We have a great time!
Thank you for your tutorial. I've done a lot of research regarding Zoom and you do a very good job of explaining how to navigate through the Wonderful World of Zoom!

Additional information on Zoom security. Zoom has made it mandatory now to have a password and for meeting participants to come into the meeting only via the "Waiting Room." This adds a level of security as well. Also, Zoom reminds people not to publish the passwords or links on a public forum as that will only encourage the brilliant but soft minded people to hack into your account.
I hope this helps! Thanks again. Stay Safe! Visit via Zoom.com

    • @HughD
      @HughD 4 ปีที่แล้ว

You're right! @JarekMa2 I also don't think Lon should pitch this as a Zoom vs Hangouts thing. At this point in time, a tips & tricks for each platform separately would serve his viewers better. This is no time for software wars. A Zoom app installed on an iPad, for example, with no requirement to get a Zoom account (or Google,) create a password, give a credit card, etc. is as EASY as it gets to be able to join a Zoom meeting. Even when he's wrong, I still think Lon is great!

@@Verminator151029 Well, I'm currently holding the post of a President & Group CEO running an organization with staffs around me that we as a company are also facing this sort of financial crisis :)
So, I am in the program, mate, just as to whether or not the direction to lay people off would be the last resort we'll take as a company.
A salary reduction is what we are contemplating for now, but when the unforeseen arises that is way beyond our control, then we'll have to schedule a personal meetup when the time comes, but providing them a heads up in return over the aforementioned matter.
As we see laying off our staff via an online communication tool seems hard to grasp at this current state, though I would have to agree that the majority of our work are done remotely, but when it comes to our staff and their affections (esp with those whom had served us for many years since the inception of the company), we may, however take a different approach and view, especially when the hard decision is to let them go (yes i know its hard to do that now, but prob when the time is correct and near) - just my 2 cents, or probably me spit balling in some areas :)
