In a situation like that I would also prefer a tractor that has the parallel mechanical linkage on the loader, especially for using the forks. Some people call them self-leveling, but there's absolutely nothing self-leveling about those! They are designed to stay at any angle that you set it at as the boom goes up and down. That feature is extremely helpful when using forks or any other attachment that you need to maintain a steady angle as it goes up and down like bale spears, etc. It also keeps the loader bucket from dumping material back on the engine of the tractor if you have a full bucket of material all the way up. The mechanical parallel linkage feature also comes on some tractors that have the material Handling feature installed, like Caterpillar does on some of their TLBs. Some John Deere and other farm tractors also come with that feature on their loaders. Lots of people love that future and some people don't. I absolutely love that feature on all loaders!

I have the same Backhoe a BH 92 with a 18" and a 24" Bucket and also the Hydraulic Thumb mounted on a Grand L 3560 with a Cab. Ive taken out 38" stumps with mine , yes lots of work but it gets the job done. I usually leave the stump height about 4 ' high or so as to use it to help pry the stump over and out of the hole.
Overall a fairly decent backhoe. But same as you there are a few changes Kubota could make 1. a Bigger Hydraulic pump with more flow. 2. Seat Belt on the BackHoe ( as i have been in some very nasty digging situations with it and have been close to getting thrown off , therefore i made my own and now i stay planted . I have made mention of this to my Kubota dealer as to why they dont have a Seat Belt ? A safety concern ) 3. They dont make a toothless bucket for this backhoe , so i made 2 removable attachments that fasten to the factory buckets so that i can make a PROPER Flat Bottom Trench. 4. Leaky valvebodies that leak down the stabalizers and leak making a mess on the operator platform. Seals are replaceable but dont last long and same issue arrises again. ( They need a better seals than just O-Rings .)
Now I can understand what You were talking about with limited Fluid supply after using My smaller Backhoe Yesterday on My L-2501 I was able to tear up My yard digging the drainage trench I needed and just starting to learn what I can do with it and WEHAT I CANNOT DO WITH IT LOL
Fast-forward ~60 years and watch the restoration of this L4701... I can hear the host of the show stating "It was a miracle it survived this long, probably because it had one very careful owner" :)
Love that tractor. I have the BX25D and I'm satisfied. I have a small homestead and can't justify a larger machine. As for outrigger cylinder drift, I made up a short chain with hooks on each end to latch them together while parked.
I’m looking forward to any work done on the M. I have a similar size Kubota which is very handy but, sometimes you just need a bigger tractor to get the job done.
Another good video. Really makes me wish we had the backhoe running at work. Man. We could push trees over with it and it had a wicked lifting capacity.
Great video, Toby! I hope that Kubota serves you well. We use their utility trucks at work and they are great little workhorses. Sure looks like it would be handy to have with all of those attachments! Nothing can replace old iron, though! :-)
Small tip for operation. When hauling branches on pallet forks, as you did, you don't always need to dump at the destination. When loaded set the forks down and back out of it as you would a pallet and the branches will, most times, stay put. I usually take the small amount of time it takes to "lace" two or three branches near the bottom of a load to facilitate that operation. Hope you are able to replant with something nice.
Had 2 Case 320s when they first came out in the 50's , sweet machines. so you know where I'm coming from . Got my own Kubota L39 , 10 years ago , Always wondered how the smaller machines would work out. Following your review I'm glad I made the choice I did, Never did I have a stabilizer foot leak down, but I never park it where it could damage something if it did. On the other hand watch those hydraulic hoses where they pass through the base of the arm on their way up to the control panel, After 5 years I had a hose chafe through, dropping the bucket to the ground, and making a mess as I dragged it back to the shop. Added a piece of sheet metal at the choke point to take the chafing, problem did not recur. You've got an extra 2 hoses for the thumb, so it's going to be real tight in there.
Good review, I think that is the model I would get if I win the lottery! I'm pleased to see they moved the brake pedals to the left side where they belong. My L3400 hydro has them on the right side, totally useless.
Nice little tractor i have a 88 B8200 with about 650 hours and its never let me down and has started in -10 degrees after not being started for months.... I also have a g6200 to cut the grass. No complaints with Kubota from me👍
make your life easier, grapple bucket is a work saver, or a set of removable grapple teeth for your current front bucket. i installed a set of teeth on my bucket, makes digging much easier. FYI: on kubota's the number on the loader is its lift capacity in KG's. multiply that times two to get your lift capacity in pounds.
Those little utility tractors do a great job as long as we don't expect them to be big tractors. My only complaint with them (there is a green hydrostatic one with a loader here on our farm) is those R4 industrial tires. If I'm off of hard pack and in something soft or wet I think our old 140 Farmall will out-pull that 47-horse JD with all four wheels turning. Otherwise it is a fantastic machine. Love the videos!
You want more than one hydraulic line going back. It's easy to get a PTO hydraulic pump to put on that PTO shaft. Put whatever size hydraulic pump you want on the PTO. That was a common accessory on older Massey Ferguson backhoes. It's unfortunate that you may never see this comment. ☹️ Or the other comments that I put on here.
My L4701 blew the front differential at 270hrs. Personal home use. Had no fluid in it from the factory. I rebuilt it and run Lucas in the gear lube now. Keep your eye on that front diff.
Feel the same way I ran the same machine. Hydraulic for the Backhoe or slow unless you're just doing one function. Yes that one function will have the power until you go to swing the Boom.
Just add some safety chains to your unit for them outriggers.... Just like larger ones have for trailer travel..... Always be there and won't get lost or misplaced. Trust me it's worth it! 😃👍 Load your tires with beet juice..... It will give it more "stay put weight" when using the back-hoe and aids loader use when the attachment is not on... Get your gripe about no over your head stack on the exhaust.... 😉 Kabota makes a good utility tractor.... It will serve you just fine. My Deere has a up stack and my older back-ho attachment is a three point with it's own pto driven pump..... But having it's own reservoir and pump it does multiple functions with ease... I like the separate stand alone hyd system better.... If the unit has a leak it won't run the tractor low on hyd fluid... Build a cart with heavy-duty castors for the back-hoe, it will make it easy to move around when putting it back on and or when stored.... It just won't live up to the supper M.... 😁. Just like mine won't live up to the "old workhorse" 3020D. Nice looking tractor! 😃😃😃
As an attachment it is restricted, for somebody not using it everyday that is a bonus , it reduces the chances of doing the wrong thing in more restricted areas. Many years ago I learned by first making trenches before being allowed to dig graves. In closely confined plots a wrong move could do thousands of $ damage to neighbouring headstones and plots.

Two observations, if I may be so bold: first of all, I have a Kubota L-3830 and I MUCH prefer the lower exhaust, because I always got a lot more exhaust in my face with the vertical exhaust on my other tractor. Secondly, PLEASE grub out the stump, because grinding it will leave a HUGE amount of wood/roots below ground, and you WILL have termites, right next to your house, for years. Be safe, and thanks again.
Actually, you can run the BH92 on as small as a B26, I have one. It is amazing in its dig ability. Alongside my Case 580 SM, dedicated backhoe, the B26 BH92 setup does just as good.

Exactly , has power but it't runs in slow motion all the time on the BH92. I'm in the process of supping up the loader control valve: the lines going in and out are restricting the system and makeing too much heat. The power beyond line has a 1/8" diameter !! Simply drilled it out to 1/4 and gained 10%. Still hunting for more restrictions, bet I will find at least 4 more. Because after previously running machine for more than 1/2 hour that line was almost smoking, and does not anymore after the drill job. Thinking about adding a 25 gal/min PTO pump and run at half revs.

I had a Kioti 20hp a 6.5 Rhino subframe backhoe all purchased new when I bought my remote retirement property. The backhoe was fun and like you said would drag the tractor around. The loader was weak on that tractor so I traded it off a few years later for a lightly used 40hp Kioti. Not long after I found a good deal on a Case 580K and that is my dedicated backhoe. Would I ever own a subframe backhoe again? No. The large rocks and clay soil of the Ozarks were just too much.
I have a Kubota mx5100 and am pleased with it for the most part. Like you the exhaust is pointing to the loader arm and will turn it black over time. It will barely pull start my D47U Caterpillar. I just purchased a replacement pony for the D4 this week and it will arrive this weekend. Between the two of them no more pull starting i hope. Keep up the videos. Maybe i should do some on my D47U. What kind of camera does a decent job other than a phone?
Well, there is one little benefit that my Kioti has that's missing here. My back hoe attachment does have locks for those stabilizers. I can see not having those can be a real pain in the rear. I could not get along without a set of forks, they're a great attachment to have aren't they?
Comprehensive review. Like you said,it's a backhoe attachment and those expecting it to work like a true backhoe will probably be very disappointed.That's the main reason I bought a cheap JD TLB and got it to full functional condition:probably for less than the cost of a backhoe attachment.
I hear people say that...even tried it. There's something to be said for having something that's generally going to start when the key is turned. Or that's not otherwise being worked on all the time.
Cut the stumps down as low as you can. Build a temporary raised bed that will last a few years. Pour a hundred pounds or so of 46-0-0 fertilizer on the stump and cover with some dirt about 10" deep. Plant some flowers over it. In 5 years the stump will be a sponge. The fertilizer will also stop the suckers from trying to come up. What ever you do, dont try to burn it, if you do, it wont rot.

Should have looked at an mx model 5400 or 6000 both have more than twice the loader capacity of your 4701 I have the 5400 and use it to load logs on my sawmill I can grapple three logs of that size no problem with my 5400 and the price point is VERY close on the two tractors. My dealer tried to sell me a 4701 and I’m glad I waited on my 5400 it also has way more hydraulic flow than the 4701 with 51 horse at the pto! Dealers in my opinion should do a better job asking questions to make sure the customer gets the right machine and is happy with their purchase when they get it home. If I had bought the 4701 he tried to sell me I would have been very unhappy as he assured me it would do the chores I described to him but after using the 5400 and it just barely being able to lift a twenty inch wide 14 ft oak log onto my mill which I realize is around three thousand lbs I would have been pissed off if he had sold me something that would not do what I told him I needed
You might enjoy taking a look at Paul Shorts channel and shop. He made lots of mods for Kubota's. Seem to remember a security hook to block the support legs. Good video's
There was times I wish I would have got a bigger tractor but then it wouldn't get into places like horse runs for cleaning out them I own a l3901 Kubota.. working on getting a backhoe attachment to go with it with a manual film
Use short chains from the boom to each stabilizer. Stabilizers will stay up as well as the boom will stay up and not swing. Use to weld 1/4 hooks on both boom and stabilizer works well.
That’s the way it is on my 64 Ford 4000 hoe. It has loops on each side of the boom, and notches in the top of the stabilizer arms for chains. Looks like factory to me.
It has a triple trunk because it is a coppiced tree, which sprouts from shoots or dead tree trunks. Yes, if it weren't for coppicing the oak would have no way of spreading its acorns because they are heavy, fall straight down to the ground and lie in the parent tree's shadow so they could never grow anyway, and animals find them and eat them before they could sprout. Without coppicing the oak would have become extinct by now.
I have a 25hp John Deere with a backhoe and have the same issues, hydraulic creep and not enough fluid to do multiple functions. But like you, I love the machine and it does what I need. Would I love a mini ex for digging? Yes. Can I afford it, no.
I agree 100% on the exhaust should definitely be up and blowing away from the operator . Then again without the backhoe it would be a very low profile machine , excellent around trees in orchard operations I would imagine.
I like hydrostatic drive for frontloader work. It beats shifting gears every 30 seconds. We have a power reverser Deere at work and it works great but even having to switch the lever to change direction can be rough while working with the loader. This is where a hydrostat really shines. However, I dislike those treadle pedals like kubota uses. I would prefer a 2 pedal forward/reverse system like on John Deere’s lawn/garden tractors. To me it seems more ergonomic to move my foot sideways instead of front to back, but that’s just me being pickey I guess.
Multiple lines is a bit of a rough way of getting around the problem Bigger hose is what you need Or fix some other restriction More than likely it's just the pump cant flow enough to move 3 cylinders at once We can fold air seeders 4 6in cylinders though a single 1/2in hose running 15m to the back
Like I told my electricinier buddy that if you get used to having a hoe around you'll never be without it. And it's whatever you get used to. My x dad-in-law had a Satoh Bull with a hoe attachment. It's smaller than yours and with a PTO hydraulic pump but burying a water line 3 feet deep in a packed road bed I averaged 100 feet an hour. Not too shabby with a little rig. I like running a 4-lever Ford just as well as a wobble stick but like the hi flow on a Deere 310. The new Bobcat hoes are quick as a cat. Not a Cat. But it's what you have and you'll never be able not to have the old standby 'M' where you can get it either. Waiting on that fix 4 sure. Good job, Toby and Pop. And everything can be improved on! AND as far as the stumps go, just cut them off close, drill holes in them and pour honey or something sweet in the holes and the ants will take care of them. But a grinder would be faster!
I should add the Kubota is not really heavy on the back end and you need to add weights or fluid to the tires to handle the loader capacities on the bigger models. Cast wheels help alot. The first one I had the steel wheels with two weights on each side. I still had to put fluid in the tires. I stood it on it nose handling round bales and scoop dirt, rock or manure. I point this out for peope today compare when pricing between different dealers. There will be a price difference between dealers on how the tractor is set up
Too bad I don't live closer I'd bring my rat rod stump grinder over and take care of that for you. It's literally the first self propelled rayco stump grinder model.
I think you would be happier with an MX 5400 or MX6000 which would give you nearly twice the loader lift capacity. Also look into a grapple attachment that is no wider than the front tires. So much handier than forks for handling brush and logs!
Too bad about your stabilizers. I have a Kioti CK4010, a little smaller than your machine. The stabilizers have a latch and pin to keep them in place when not in use, no straps required! Same setup for the hydraulics for the backhoe attachment. New machine for me, quite happy with it. It’s strong for a small tractor.

like you said its not a full on TLB, its a compact utility tractor its meant to be kinda like a jack of all trades master of none, its not meant to be the best at anything, its built to do a bit of everything somewhat well
pour a concrete counterweight for the backhoe bucket to scoop up when using the fork lift.. make it so its held down by the thumb so it does not rattle around. can be easily scooped up or dropped out.. a loop on it or a loop of rebar out either side of the top clearing the thumb makes it easier to pickup with chain, build a form.. or line the bucket in thin carpet or cardboard and duct tape then a thick trash bag making it crazy easy to the fresh cured concrete out.. be sure to set the lifting loops in it.. in case it gets stuck. i am not a hydraulics expert. but i think there are valves for support legs on the backhoe that require pressure to move the cylinder either way.. its a 4 port valve. something like this.. www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_36718_36718 you would need two of these.. one for each stabilizer. .

As an attachment it is restricted, for somebody not using it everyday that is a bonus , it reduces the chances of doing the wrong thing in more restricted areas. Many years ago I learned by first making trenches before being allowed to dig graves. In closely confined plots a wrong move could do thousands of $ damage to neighbouring headstones and plots.

Two observations, if I may be so bold: first of all, I have a Kubota L-3830 and I MUCH prefer the lower exhaust, because I always got a lot more exhaust in my face with the vertical exhaust on my other tractor. Secondly, PLEASE grub out the stump, because grinding it will leave a HUGE amount of wood/roots below ground, and you WILL have termites, right next to your house, for years. Actually, you can run the BH92 on as small as a B26, I have one. It is amazing in its dig ability. Alongside my Case 580 SM, dedicated backhoe, the B26 BH92 setup does just as good.
Great vid. Love that Kubota. I’ve seen you working in some tight spots in the woods before, so I bet this tractor will serve you well all the way around. Was impressed how well those forks kept the branches. Looks like that little bucket can do some serious digging, especially it being an attachment type hoe. Bet you’ve already used it more than u thought you would!!!

Exactly , has power but it't runs in slow motion all the time on the BH92. I'm in the process of supping up the loader control valve: the lines going in and out are restricting the system and makeing too much heat. The power beyond line has a 1/8" diameter !! Simply drilled it out to 1/4 and gained 10%. Still hunting for more restrictions, bet I will find at least 4 more. Because after previously running machine for more than 1/2 hour that line was almost smoking, and does not anymore after the drill job. Thinking about adding a 25 gal/min PTO pump and run at half revs.

I had a Kioti 20hp a 6.5 Rhino subframe backhoe all purchased new when I bought my remote retirement property. The backhoe was fun and like you said would drag the tractor around. The loader was weak on that tractor so I traded it off a few years later for a lightly used 40hp Kioti. Not long after I found a good deal on a Case 580K and that is my dedicated backhoe. Would I ever own a subframe backhoe again? No. The large rocks and clay soil of the Ozarks were just too much.
I have a Kubota mx5100 and am pleased with it for the most part. Like you the exhaust is pointing to the loader arm and will turn it black over time. It will barely pull start my D47U Caterpillar. I just purchased a replacement pony for the D4 this week and it will arrive this weekend. Between the two of them no more pull starting i hope. Keep up the videos. Maybe i should do some on my D47U. What kind of camera does a decent job other than a phone?
Highly recommend a PTO driven log splitter with a 4 way anvil or base. You split a lot of firewood so this would be a huge time saver. Time = money
Well, there is one little benefit that my Kioti has that's missing here. My back hoe attachment does have locks for those stabilizers. I can see not having those can be a real pain in the rear.
I could not get along without a set of forks, they're a great attachment to have aren't they?

Comprehensive review. Like you said,it's a backhoe attachment and those expecting it to work like a true backhoe will probably be very disappointed.That's the main reason I bought a cheap JD TLB and got it to full functional condition:probably for less than the cost of a backhoe attachment.
I hear people say that...even tried it. There's something to be said for having something that's generally going to start when the key is turned. Or that's not otherwise being worked on all the time.
hey I would bet you could run another hose back to the valve body. may have to drill another hole to plumb it in so it can take more flow.
Cut the stumps down as low as you can. Build a temporary raised bed that will last a few years. Pour a hundred pounds or so of 46-0-0 fertilizer on the stump and cover with some dirt about 10" deep. Plant some flowers over it. In 5 years the stump will be a sponge. The fertilizer will also stop the suckers from trying to come up. What ever you do, dont try to burn it, if you do, it wont rot.
Our L48 has never once had the outriggers bleed down. The backhoe does, but in 7 years not once has a stabilizer come down.
Good review on the kabota. Wonder if there is Valve leaking on those pedstal arms. They should not come down like. Great video.

Should have looked at an mx model 5400 or 6000 both have more than twice the loader capacity of your 4701 I have the 5400 and use it to load logs on my sawmill I can grapple three logs of that size no problem with my 5400 and the price point is VERY close on the two tractors. My dealer tried to sell me a 4701 and I’m glad I waited on my 5400 it also has way more hydraulic flow than the 4701 with 51 horse at the pto! Dealers in my opinion should do a better job asking questions to make sure the customer gets the right machine and is happy with their purchase when they get it home. If I had bought the 4701 he tried to sell me I would have been very unhappy as he assured me it would do the chores I described to him but after using the 5400 and it just barely being able to lift a twenty inch wide 14 ft oak log onto my mill which I realize is around three thousand lbs I would have been pissed off if he had sold me something that would not do what I told him I needed

You might enjoy taking a look at Paul Shorts channel and shop. He made lots of mods for Kubota's. Seem to remember a security hook to block the support legs.

Use short chains from the boom to each stabilizer. Stabilizers will stay up as well as the boom will stay up and not swing. Use to weld 1/4 hooks on both boom and stabilizer works well.
That’s the way it is on my 64 Ford 4000 hoe. It has loops on each side of the boom, and notches in the top of the stabilizer arms for chains. Looks like factory to me.

Yes, if it weren't for coppicing the oak would have no way of spreading its acorns because they are heavy, fall straight down to the ground and lie in the parent tree's shadow so they could never grow anyway, and animals find them and eat them before they could sprout. Without coppicing the oak would have become extinct by now.
The exhaust also soots up the loader frame on my 4740. I would like a vertical pipe for exhaust.
No you wouldn’t. I’ve had both, and the vertical exhaust is a bitch for blowing diesel fumes in your face.
You could get lots of use of PTO chipper/shredder, to generate chips/compost, and avoid having to chaperon burn-piles.
Just a thought bud if you need extra weight on that Kubota diggin roots and stuff fill that front bucket with material.
I have a 25hp John Deere with a backhoe and have the same issues, hydraulic creep and not enough fluid to do multiple functions. But like you, I love the machine and it does what I need. Would I love a mini ex for digging? Yes. Can I afford it, no.
I imagine the larger kubotas may have two pumps feeding the backhoe attachment (thus two lines, multi function ability)?
Do you plan on getting a grapple? It would compress your load and allow you to see better.

I agree 100% on the exhaust should definitely be up and blowing away from the operator . Then again without the backhoe it would be a very low profile machine , excellent around trees in orchard operations I would imagine.
I like hydrostatic drive for frontloader work. It beats shifting gears every 30 seconds. We have a power reverser Deere at work and it works great but even having to switch the lever to change direction can be rough while working with the loader. This is where a hydrostat really shines. However, I dislike those treadle pedals like kubota uses. I would prefer a 2 pedal forward/reverse system like on John Deere’s lawn/garden tractors. To me it seems more ergonomic to move my foot sideways instead of front to back, but that’s just me being pickey I guess.

Like I told my electricinier buddy that if you get used to having a hoe around you'll never be without it. And it's whatever you get used to. My x dad-in-law had a Satoh Bull with a hoe attachment. It's smaller than yours and with a PTO hydraulic pump but burying a water line 3 feet deep in a packed road bed I averaged 100 feet an hour. Not too shabby with a little rig. I like running a 4-lever Ford just as well as a wobble stick but like the hi flow on a Deere 310. The new Bobcat hoes are quick as a cat. Not a Cat. But it's what you have and you'll never be able not to have the old standby 'M' where you can get it either. Waiting on that fix 4 sure. Good job, Toby and Pop. And everything can be improved on! AND as far as the stumps go, just cut them off close, drill holes in them and pour honey or something sweet in the holes and the ants will take care of them. But a grinder would be faster!
I should add the Kubota is not really heavy on the back end and you need to add weights or fluid to the tires to handle the loader capacities on the bigger models. Cast wheels help alot. The first one I had the steel wheels with two weights on each side. I still had to put fluid in the tires. I stood it on it nose handling round bales and scoop dirt, rock or manure. I point this out for peope today compare when pricing between different dealers. There will be a price difference between dealers on how the tractor is set up
Too bad I don't live closer I'd bring my rat rod stump grinder over and take care of that for you. It's literally the first self propelled rayco stump grinder model.
I think you would be happier with an MX 5400 or MX6000 which would give you nearly twice the loader lift capacity. Also look into a grapple attachment that is no wider than the front tires. So much handier than forks for handling brush and logs!
Cut the stumps flat and put some nice decorative gnomes on them.

Too bad about your stabilizers. I have a Kioti CK4010, a little smaller than your machine. The stabilizers have a latch and pin to keep them in place when not in use, no straps required! Same setup for the hydraulics for the backhoe attachment. New machine for me, quite happy with it. It’s strong for a small tractor.
On the ground is way better than on the roof, I unfortunately have some knowledge of that. Here is hoping we get some Super M repair videos.

like you said its not a full on TLB, its a compact utility tractor its meant to be kinda like a jack of all trades master of none, its not meant to be the best at anything, its built to do a bit of everything somewhat well
Turn the stumps into chainsaw art. And like I mentioned in a previous video comment, I have 20 gallons of used engine oil if you need it......

pour a concrete counterweight for the backhoe bucket to scoop up when using the fork lift.. make it so its held down by the thumb so it does not rattle around. can be easily scooped up or dropped out.. a loop on it or a loop of rebar out either side of the top clearing the thumb makes it easier to pickup with chain, build a form.. or line the bucket in thin carpet or cardboard and duct tape then a thick trash bag making it crazy easy to the fresh cured concrete out.. be sure to set the lifting loops in it.. in case it gets stuck.
i am not a hydraulics expert. but i think there are valves for support legs on the backhoe that require pressure to move the cylinder either way.. its a 4 port valve. something like this.. www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_36718_36718 you would need two of these.. one for each stabilizer. .
