    I have 215 acres in central Florida. I had a backhoe on my 3 series John Deere for years and I loved it.
    Last year I was finally able to purchase a Bobcat e35 mini excavator. After using the excavator side by side with the tractor backhoe, you really start to see the pros and cons.
    The tractor backhoe loses to the mini excavator in most every category except price and ground speed. But that is too be expected. My mini excavator is a $50,000 4-ton dedicated digging machine (the angle dozer blade kicks ass as well though) and my backhoe is a 9k add on to a tractor.
    Look, at the end of the day, do backhoes suck compared to a excavator? Yes. Do backhoes suck in general? No.
    If you need to dig, rip, or high load once a month or more, renting an excavator is not really a wise option. If you can’t afford a mini excavator, then yes, go for a backhoe (especially if you have a larger tractor).

    I use my b2601 Kubota with FEL with teeth on bucket and backho for my business. I pour concrete and digging footers and grade out an area for what I’m pouring. I love my machine. It’s like having 2 machines at once, because I can move dirt like a bobcat would and dig like a backho would. Slower? Yes. But it gets the job done, and honestly wouldn’t trade it for anything.

    Just bought a B2601 because of the backhoe. I liked it because of the size. I can make a small dolly carrier for it when I am not using it. I preferred the B2650 size tractor but didn't like the backhoe as much. Nice video. Thanks for commenting on pros and CONS.

    Having a back hoe is like having 4 wheel drive on your everyday driver truck. You may not use often, but when you need it, your glad you have it.
    My thought is, if your going to buy a tractor, you might as well get a backhoe attachment.
    Lord knows if your septic system needs to be serviced, fixed, or replaced, it will pay for itself in one use.

    Great video. Wanted to add... If a person cuts their own firewood, a backhoe with a mechanical thumb makes life much easier. Holding a log above the ground is much easier on your back. Suspend logs over you trailer and cut dropping into the trailer. Efficient too.

    We bought one on the family farm to dig holes for post because of Rocky soil. The next year our waterline, all 200 feet of it froze and shattered. We expanded the amount of waterline by a hundred feet and redid all of our water system over the course of100 hours. Absolutely paid for itself many times over in just two short years.

    To me, one of the best aspects of a TLB is size. I use skidsteers and mini-x’es all the time on jobs. But when I get in tight areas - especially with lots of trees all around - they simply aren’t the best option. Plus, maneuvering on tractor tires is A LOT less destructive on soft ground. Operators seldom consider the extra cleanup and leveling that can result from tracks in confined spaces.

    I just got a 1025r a couple months ago and most of the hours I've put on it has been backhoe work....I've dug up all kinds of little stumps, rocks, septic to get pumped/install an access lid so I don't have to dig up anymore....Had to dig the septic line at the basement wall to relevel where the dirt sunk over the last 5 years....If I rented, I'd never do the 100s of little meaningless jobs on the weekday evenings after work that add up to something very substantial overall over time....Can't tell you how many loader buckets of rocks I've picked up at ground level saving my back from the hell that is a wheel barrow....My only regret is I didn't have one sooner.....

      Renting an excavator from let's say Home Depot is nice, but there's the time constraints you have to deal with. Obviously getting it back before getting charged for another day. But also, if you own the backhoe, you can dig anytime you want. Time wasted going back and forth to rent it also becomes a hassle. For one or two jobs, renting is great. But you'll be surprised how many little jobs, that's how they start, you end up doing definitely saving your back, arms and legs. And as you get older, I'm 54, you don't have the power like you did when you where 20 or 30. These machines can last 20 or 30 years. So you're not buying it for a few years. With care, your children can end up borrowing it.

    Good video , I have a Deere 1025r got the loader not the backhoe I couldn't justify the extra 7000 for the backhoe. But after a year I wish I would have even though I still have not had an opportunity to need one . The resale value and the high cost of adding one is giving me a feeling of regret. If I could do it over I would have gotten the backhoe with the Zero percent they offered at the time .

    I have the l6060 with the back how and would not change a thing. Of course the excavator is better when landscaping as 360 degrees makes the job easier and you can maneuver quicker but when I have to run to the end of the property the l6060 is great and if you are in bigger jobs and need the efficiency of the kx80-4 then us an excavator. The BH backhoe on the l6060 can do alot of work. It has more than exceed expectation. 10 out of 10. Don't forget about the thum !!!!!

    You should sell me yours & go get that M62. Haha. Actually I’m torn between a cab or the backhoe. I live in Wyoming so the cab would be nice. I only have 7 acres of flat land. Basically a rule acreage subdivision. I do need to install a few culverts and plant some trees eventually. Do you regret not having a cab? Also is the seat the same as one with a cab or did they change the seat style without the cab because it swivels?

    • @JamesMoVlogs
      @JamesMoVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason White you can get a cab with the b2650, and the backhoe attachment has its own seat. And eventually I’ll get a m62 unless I find good help and get a skid and mini. I don’t really need a cab in San Diego only thing I need is a sun shade which I’ll be adding in the next month!

    • @ZILAwelds
      @ZILAwelds 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here is your “justification”. You owning that backhoe is like me owning a tire machine (in a way) $5000+ for a tire machine, dynamic balancer, vulcanizing machine, weights and valves .... where walmart will mount and balance a tire for $19.95.... i have to do a lot of tires.... bur i have a hand full of cars, and a handful of trailers, summer and snow tires for the cars ( some mounted on extra sets of rims others just loose) if i have a flat at 10pm or on a sunday i dont have to wait in line till the tire shop has time to do my stuff ... and then they dont balance it right ....
      So if you are planning on renting a mini excavator, how far is it to the rental yard? An hour there and an hour back ? You could have had 1/2 your job already finished with your own backhoe.
      Then the day you have time and the weather is good the rental yard has no equipment available ..... wth...,
      In my opinion it is always better to be self reliant and be able to get it done when you need to get it done.

    I ended getting the "little brother" to your machine, the Kubota BX23S. Came with loader, backhoe, and 60 inch mower deck. It's a 2018, with 197 hours, previous owner used it 99% for lawn cutting. Both buckets practically brand new. A steal at $18500. This is March 2022. New would have cost $29995. Ok, yes new would have come with a 5 year warranty, but these are so reliable I'm not too concerned knowing I'll be doing 99% of the maintenance. Renting is ok, but there comes the day when you can't find a machine and your client is not happy waiting a few more days for you to get the job done. Especially in the rainy season, where I rented and had the machine sit 1/2 a day waiting for the rain to end. Then having to rent it another day to get the job done. Cut into my profit.

A gallon of diesel definitely more powerful than your back, if you know what I mean.

  • @user-mp8er1ds9x
    @user-mp8er1ds9x 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If backhoes weren't worth having and didn't hold their own against other machines they wouldn't be selling like hot cakes and the good used ones wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.
    The smaller the site the better the little excavators shine. But they do more turf damage and take so much more time to move dirt around the job than the little tlb's while wasting the tracks that it's to be avoided.
    The bigger the site where the backhoe has unrestricted room the more advantageous it becomes. And there comes a time when the bigger the tractor the better.
    Little mini excavator = big limitations. Little tractor/loader/backhoe = more jobs done. And excavators won't be running around town from job to job on the same day making money without a trailer.
    Disclaimer. I don't have excavators. Just a backhoe, motor grader and dozer. But I don't dig next to house basements either, so.
    Something to remember, the bigger the job and machines, the less competition.
