    I would love to take that class. I have always liked that kind of hammer for the money. Don't know when they will have a class near me in Maine.

      you should be fine. It's a 70-80 pound hammer throw. I have just a thin sheet of plywood between the hammer and the floor as a precaution and I've never had an issue in a residential garage.

    Excellent overview vid! I was wondering whether during the class there was any discussion of spring selection/alternatives? I'm in Australia and getting that MSD spring is a bit of a problem. Many thanks!

      Thanks! I can't recall any alternative spring discussion. It's a pretty specific spring size. I'd have to ask where they came from, But I've also seen builds that have used coil springs off of older motorcycles or snowmobiles. Hope that helps!

    How thick is the concrete floor? I have a 4" slab in an attached garage. Wondering if I could make this work at home vs building a new shop.

    • @MuffinManMetalworks
      @MuffinManMetalworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4 inch slab should be fine for something like this. This hammer has a 70 pound ram weight. You can also use any kind of rubber sheet or thin plywood as a spacer in between to really eliminate any chance of floor damage

    awesome video muffin man how many hour ride was it down there i was gonna take the class im here in CT southbury actually your in danbury right ? i just built a 10'x20' shop but dont have a concrete floor how thick of a slab is recomended? sorry for all the questions awesome video just subbed and liked Mark 👍👍

    • @MuffinManMetalworks
      @MuffinManMetalworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The Virginia Institute of Blacksmithing is in Waynesboro, VA. It was just under a 7 hour ride. The hammer itself weighs just under 1,000 pounds, with a 70 pounds ram weight. So I'd pour a slab somewhere between 5 and 6 inches for the whole shop.

    Hello)) please tell me the diameter of the anvil (probably 20 centimeters), and welded square pipe 16 centimeters?
    - do I have correct guesses?

      They’re in different parts of the US throughout the year. You should have some luck just searching “Clay Spencer tire hammer classes” in a google search

    I'm thinking about purchasing Clay's plans, since I don't have the possibility of going into one of those workshops but i'd like to build my power hammer off a well tested design.
    ¿How are the plastic plates held and adjusted in this design?

    • @MuffinManMetalworks
      @MuffinManMetalworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      they're held in with welded tabs at the top of the ram guide tube

    ??? how dose it adjust for height of things u put in there to hit

    • @MuffinManMetalworks
      @MuffinManMetalworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      there is no height adjustment. Unless you want to raise it off the ground more.

    Get some of the lube for a marine forklift. Sticks and lubricates, might be carcinogenic.
