  • This is my home built tyre hammer, based on the Clay Spencer model with a huge improvement. A sliding head so larger or smaller materials can be used but retaining full stroke.
    I state in the video that the motor is 3/4hp, in fact it's a 1hp motor.

    I made one about five or six years ago and I love it! I haven't hardly had to do any maintenance to it other than grease and oil. I wish I would have known about the adjustable head when I made mine because that is genius! I still haven't got around to filling my upright and cross tube with sand but it doesn't seem to affect it other than it might be a little loud. Great job, yours looks fantastic!

    I’ve the same type. I bought it from a gentleman who fabricates these hammers with Clay Spencer’s permission. It really handy for saving the shoulder when breaking big stock down to a more manageable size.

    • @MrOldclunker
      @MrOldclunker 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You don't need permission to make a tire hammer, only if you use his exact plans and if his patent os even viable after all these years.

    • @serendipityforge333
      @serendipityforge333 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrOldclunker as a matter of fact he does use the exact plans. Those plans are, or were, available for purchase at the time. You’re right in that a person could certainly figure out how to build their own just by having a look at the thing and many have done so. In my case it would’ve cost me so much downtime in the shop that the cheaper option was to just buy one ready made.

      @@garyhuston : Looks to be a great helper for relieving the shoulder blues. Please help me out with my blacksmithing, as I have only been a smithy about 25 years. Always thought that the tuyere was under the forges firepot, just below the 'clinker breaker' where the air comes in from the blower. Has the ash plate at the bottom. Ooops! Thought you had misspelled 'tire' In the title. Almost forgot you aren't in the United States. Sorry.
      EDIT:You will be wanting the forge and anvil within at most seperate 3 feet (about a meter) apart from each other to conserve heat. Especially if you plan on doing anything like forge welding or jump welding.
