- What exactly happens when you pull down the left controller stick in mid-air on a DJI controller? Do the motors shut off? Does the drone come hurdling down to the ground? What about when you're near the ground? In today's video, I answer all of these questions and more!

I was sure it would turn off the motors. its good to know that you can safely pull it all the way down and have it just descend faster. every time I bring it down I was scared I would get to close to all the way back and it would shut off the motors. so glad you made this video it really eased my mind.

Just got a DJI drone today and this is one of the concerns I had. Thanks for answering!! About the last part where I'm not supposed to point both sticks down -- I think I'll play it on the safe side and only operate one stick at a time!!

new idea for a video, do a CSC command when the drone is way up high and then try to do it again to recover before it hits the ground...
Check out Chris Rollins TH-cam channel he did it with a Mavic Pro and pulled it off.
Demunseed on his channel shows what happens. It recovers well.
He did it on a Mavic, question still remains.. does it work on a P3S? I bet Carson can answer us that by making a video himself.

hey, Carson have you ever locked the left throttle stick in mid-air? and if you have did it shut off? also i just wanted to know because i just got a phantom 3 standard and wanted to know if it would shut off the motors during mid-flight.

When I hand catch my P3 and pull the left stick down it shuts the propellers off. Is this controlled by the VPS ?

Thanks for this video. I was terrified that if I moved the left stick to the down position that it would cut the motors as it does on the Mavic after starting them before taking off.

Nope! It's just the stock 2.7K DJI P3S camera on it and then that is later upscaled to 4K in post after editing all the rest of my videos :)

When I record with the Phantom 3 standard, the resolution isn't always the best. For example sometimes the leaves of trees look super grainy or the video is a bit choppy. Do you know how to make videos look better?
Make sure to take the video from the micro SD card on the drone and not from what is recorded on your phone

take the sd card out the drone and put it in a sd card reader on your pc files and open them that way

I believe you can since it's only the Wifi signal from Iphone, drone, and controller that are needed.
Yep it can! You don't need a cellular connection in order to fly a DJI drone :)

One thing I can't find, do you have to have an active cellular connection to fly or can you use an old cellphone that doesn't have an active cellular connection?
you doesn't need cellular connection on your mobile phones/tablets to fly.
What propellers are they on that ? As I can see they have gold stickers on
They're the DJI Phantom 3 Professional props which are a bit more expensive than the DJI P3S props but I just like the gold ends a little better xD

I can't believe anyone would even ask that question. Wow.
I made the mistake of locking the Throttle Down while it was in return to home mode, and it bounced off the ground and crashed.
I lost my Syma X8CW last year. It went out of range and I tried to bring it back by lowering the altitude and reversing direction. Pulling the joysticks to the bottom and that's where it went, to the bottom of the creek. I blame Syma for their poorly written manual for that. But, I'll never make that mistake again, with my Phantom 3 Standard/controller.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you on that mine may been a freak accident but when I was about 3 foot off the ground I stumbled walking and pull the stick all the way down just the one stick my drone crashed, the motors did cut off and like I said I was about three feet maybe four off the ground when it shut down
If you’re that close to the ground the drone is programmed to shut off once it touches the ground (or once the motors stop working so hard because it isn’t making the drone life up anymore)

Hmm.The title is "What Happens When You Pull Down the Left Controller Stick on a DJI Controller??" but I still don't know what happens because your narration does not match the video.
The first 2 times you show "what happens" the drone just stops about 10 feet from the ground.
Is that really what happens "When You Pull Down the Left Controller Stick on a DJI Controller??"? The drone loses altitude until it is about 10 feet in the air and then just hovers?

Your videos rock and have gotten me way excited about flying my P3 std. BUT today a horrible thing happened, after I watched your video about "What happens when you pull down the left controller stick...."
First of all, you should point out to your newbies (like me) the the P3std ships with the controller settings in different positions and with different properties. There are 3 choices. Not knowing any better I have been trying to learn to fly with Position 1, always wondering why your videos never quite did the same stuff as mine...
Anyway, I have a lot of trees in my area especially around my pool and have to takeoff and land in ATTI mode. As I brought the P3 in for a manual landing, the feet were ON the POOL DECK. I thought, "Carson says bringing down the Left controller into the lock position, turns off the engines"
Sadly, thats not what happened. Instead the drone took the downstroke as an input command, flew off sideways and into my pool at top speed. Sob......
So maybe the downstroke/lock thing only works if the controller is in the GPS mode...
Anyway, Id love a quick video about your preferred controller position settings.

If you do this, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT leave the stick locked down before it hits the ground!! I made that mistake and my drone bounced off the ground really hard and crashed. Make sure you unlock the left stick when you are about 30 feet from the ground.
