Travis at an interview said "I try to be creative at my style, you wanna to play something creative, maybe a lot of drummer can play it as you but did they think about it, would they have created that? that's what i wanna to do in every single track" Im not a professional drummer, but i have to admitt that i love every single song he plays, from transplant, box car racer, +44, blink 182 and those of hip hop. Maybe he is not as technical as for ex Jojo Mayer but i really like what he plays and how he plays it,and i know this guy has worked a lot to be where he is, he has so much experience and practice. How a pop punk band drummer created Ghost on the dancefloor? This guy is really creative at what he plays and i respect him so much as every professional drummer, his presence at live is unique.

I rarely see drummers play Travis correctly and especially almost never both correctly and sign the same energy. That said in the Dogs Eating Dogs bridge/breakdown part or w/e you wanna call it, he kinda fuck up and didn’t do that trash-splash hit again after the first measure for some reason, which is like the most iconic part of that song arguably lol I guess he forget his own stuff? I don’t blame him, I’ve forgotten stuff I’ve written too.
travis is fuckin awesome! he just compose great sequences for each song, without losing his style
it's the dudes writing style that's insane. Everything he does goes perfect into the song and would be really complex to write. Not necessarily the hardest drummer to play his beats, but imagine writing the riffs and things the way he does. I think one of the most impressive (and probably the hardest) he's written was his Boxcar Racer hi-hat/snare solo in 'The end with you'. It all sounds so simple, but a lot of people don't catch the little things he throws in as well. I've seen a lot of travis barker covers and can pick out mistakes in every single one that brings the song from complex to simple. For instance, 'Heart's all gone'. Look up the cover and almost no drummer can do the chorus like it's meant to be (The little beat on the ride cymbal). It may sound like it bc of the audio, but if you watch closely, you'll see.. and same with the end with you.. I haven't seen a single 100%, or even close cover... With the original audio mixed in the videos, it's hard to tell, but listen to the songs and go try to play just those two examples for yourself.. I'm still working on Heart's all gone and plan on uploading it as my first cover on Youtubbbs. I will probably do the same for the end with you.. But It will take me a ton of practice to make it sound like Travis does. Because he's an insane artist.
+JPskits 100% agree. Not all of his stuff is that hard to copy, but it comes off as original. the chops are clean and very creative.
real drummers should have respect for Travis. those who dislike like cuz hes "overrated" are too ignorant to see hes actually really good, specially for a band like Blink 182.

They’re either a) jealous fucking music nerds betas or b) delusional in properly gauging his ability and/or their own relative to his. I really don’t think I’ve ever seen a drummer who was truly talented, skilled, and creative in their own right talk shit about Travis’s drumming, ever. And if they do exist, I almost guarantee they fall into group a), i.e. jealous music nerds who think their favored type of music doesn’t get enough attention, which usually and very possibly without exception means the kind of shit that has an overwhelmingly male audience e.g. most metal and many of the “world’s greatest” guitar player type dudes usually with extreme music theory knowledge e.g. Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson (each of whom I like BTW, Eric Johnson particularly), then whoever else you wanna add to the list.
Idk why people bash him so much. He practices more than anyone and it pays off. What haters...
It's not about bashing him as much as it is about bashing the people who say he's like teh best drummer evah (same goes for Joey Jordison, for instance). On his own right the guy's pretty decent, especially considering the kind of music Blink182 play.
I personally cant decide who's the best because they all have something different to bring to the table, but I've been enjoying travis barkers playing recently
J Brown John Theodore, Benny Greb, Gavin Harrison, Jay Postones, Jojo Mayer, Alex Ruding, Hannes Grossman, Thomas Pridgen, Thomas Haake, Morgan Agren... And I could co on.
Meaning, it's impossible to say who's best, but by all objective standards Travis Barker, shouldn't be on the list - enjoyable to listen to as he may be.
But anyway to each his own.

You can't deny this dude's skill man... A huuuge part of being a great drummer is being solid in the pocket and playing in time as perfectly as possible. Travis does both really well, and he really knows how to write creatively for the song. Definitely not into this genre of music, but you can't deny talent. With that being said there are way too many people out there who think that Travis is the best drummer in the world.

I've never cared for Blink 182 or Travis Barker, but this song has been stuck in my head ever since I saw a drum cover of it here on youtube. Great stuff watching Travis play it, really enjoyed this.

people should stop with this hating travis thing, they act like it's all his fault. he is certainly overrated, but that's because he's famous. famous people are always made out to look better than they are, and im pretty sure that travis is the most famous drummer ever, but that's not his fault. I have never seen travis say "look at me, im the best drummer in the world!" he has never said that he was amazing or anything, so don't hate the man just because he got famous. who ever has played drums or just music and thought "yeah, I don't want anyone to know me or that I play music" it's what we all want, so stop being that guy that hates him just because. he's overrated and by no means the best drummer in the world, but that doesnt take away from the fact that he's still pretty fantastic

What are you talking about? They just didn't use the audio coming in from the mix (maybe they weren't allowed to or they didn't want that) but used the audio captured right on the spot. If you were standing behind Barker you would hear pretty much the same thing as what you hear in this video. Also they used 4 cameras. Sorry buddy but your "quality" argument fails.. it's not the quality that lacks in this video.

I've watched this video so many times, it's mesmerizing to me
For more than three decades it's IMPOSSIBLE to find a basic 4/4 beat that somebody builds on and just rocks out with. This is phenomenal! The fact that he's using Zildjian cymbals makes it a hundred times better, of course ... that penetrating ring ... purrrrrrrrrrrrr!

+masterwhil I've been a drummer for 14 years now. Probably nothing special compared to all the great talents out there, but I know my shit. Travis is not the "best" or most diverse or technical drummer out there. But he has a unique style, a great flow and he does what he does very well. I dare everyone to recreate his drum performance with the amount of energy he puts into it and that over the length of a whole concert. ;) It doesn't matter if you know some standard death metal drummers who roll the doublebass at 200.000 bpm and what not. Drumming is not a competition. It is art, it is music for Christ sake. Look at Lars Ulrich: He is considered one of the worst professional drummers out there, just because his style is pretty basic. Still he had a big influence one biggest and most popular and longest successfully existing Heavy Metal band out there and made it to what it is. Same thing with Travis and Blink 182. That's all that counts.
Also these discussions and typical hater comments like yours, which you basically find under every drum video are at the end the product of trolls. You like to see people freak out about the shit you talk and that's it.

since they used the mics from the stage i think the quality is not that bad. recording drums in a love show is different from recording in a studio, obviously the quality is not going to be t h a t good. pretty awesome to me, though

+Aaron Mann It's probably because the drums are being recorded directly, the rest of the music comes from the sound reflected by the venue walls. That's why the vocals bass and guitar sound a bit off, speed of sound dude xD

I've been playing drums my whole life, and i love a lot of different drums from a lot of different styles, but i can't see why everyone is / was on a Matt Greiner hype? travis is personally my favorite drummer, just because he was the first image of a drummer I ever got and ever since then he's just been an inspiration to me. But if you think Travis is the best in the world then you're horribly wrong. There are some people out there who deserves a lot more credit than they get.

great drumming ... getting kind of tired of everyone using only a customs though ... the k's and k customs are just as good for rock. it's getting kind of boring when they all play the same cymbals. just wish they would mix some different sounds into their setups.
True... It's just that A Customs cut through the huge PAs and speakers during live shows whereas Ks are more "mellow" (I don't think that's the right word) but they don't really cut. Excellent for studio work, decent for live shows.

But its probably from the fact that you still play your drums in your basement and aren't making any money off of it. people nowadays are so fucking contradicting. We all know hes not the best drummer in the world in fact im sure there are people who don't make any money and aren't even somewhat famous that could probably "beat" him at a drum off or whatever. but that's not what music and drumming should be about. everyones so fucking caught up in whos more "technical" or whos "better" when it really doesn't matter at all. This dude is a prime example of someone who worked his fucking ass off to get where he is and if you cant respect that then you wont make it far as a musician. To me being a good drummer doesn't mean you have to go fucking crazy all the time and be a technical giant. You have to be able to please the people you play with. and this whole "sell out" shit is total bullshit. You say this band "sold out" cause they signed with a big label and got a bunch of endorsements with nike or whatever yet odds are your fucking wearing nikes saying this. If a band works hard enough they deserve to make money and feed there families. Cant drive around in a fucking van forever when you have a family to feed and bills to pay. Yeah he does have a lot of hype around his name and he may not be the "style" of drumming you like but when have you ever seen him in a video claiming to be the best drummer in the world? You wouldn't because odds are he knows as a musician you can always improve no matter how good you are. So stop hating on guys who actually do it for a living and go focus on what the fuck you gotta do to get better.
