  • In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves ranks the six best doublestack 9mm handguns for concealed carry by efficiency. In other words, which doublestack 9mm handguns are the most efficient EDC/carry guns based on capacity versus their size and weight? It's a tough question, and James has spent years of his life trying to find the answers.
Here's one step closer. And stay tuned for single stacks.

actually he uses it in his flawed system as a HUGE multiplier in a very misleading way. Area by using length x ht has little bearing here, but it exploits insignificant differences in size into a grossly bigger number that can only be mitigated by vastly more rounds....which again is a bit useless since more rounds past a certain point is lots more weight...weight that needs to be avoided in this category.

I would argue that how it feels in your hand and how it feels when reaching and pulling the trigger is the most important. with reliability equally important. Trigger reach(too short or too long) as usual is not talked about and can have the biggest impact on staying on target.

Years ago I was shopping for my first handgun. Watching videos, reading reviews, comparing features. Finally I made my decision, I knew what i wanted. I went to the gun store, asked the man behind the counter, "Can I see that Glock 19?". He handed me the gun. A sudden rush of excitement from finally touching this thing that i had coveted for months as I pondered my choices as a future gun buyer surged through my body. The grip texture, the weight, everything about it felt sureal. Then I caressed it and pointed it at a vacant corner of the store in a shooters pose.
      It felt odd.
      I adjusted my grip.
      It felt odd.
I tried a double fisted grip.
      Awful.
I set the gun down like it was a pair of my mothers panties and i was trying to hold back the vomit.
I have shot Glocks since then. My bosses .45 was a blast to shoot. I have nothing bad to say about Glock firearms. It just wasnt the gun for me.
I purchased a S&W Shield 9mm that day and have been completely happy with it.
      It fit my hands.

I like having after market 15, 17rd Glock mags & using .40, .357sig, 9x19mm converted barrels; Storm Lake, Lonewolf Alpha, KKM etc. A .357sig or .40 out of a 27/33 would smoke most thugs or bad guys. I think it would have been good to include the scores of the double stack guns with extended magazines that are still 5.1" tall and under. The Springfield Hellcat and Sig p365 fit into this. The extended magazines will increase their efficiency score but, as I said, they are still within the acceptable dimensions for the test. I personally see it only as an added positive that these guns can go from their extended magazine size, of 5.1" and smaller, to their even smaller, flush fit, magazines because of the option for easier concealment. They also have more options for carry locations, such as pockets and small purses, due to their shortest magazine configuration size. Food for thought. Awesome video either way James 👍👍
My carry setup is an M&P Shield 9mm that I always carry with the extended magazine in the gun. Because the only difference between my carry setup and the Glock 43x is a little bit wider grip, I'll be switching to the 43x as soon as my local store gets more in. Going from 9 rounds in the gun to 16 only makes sense to me. I'll keep the Shield for the few times I may want the shorter grip.

I love this idea. I did the same thing a few years ago when I was trying to figure out the handgun to buy next. Gf laughed at me and called me obsessed lol. I think this is flawed though in a few ways. Honestly glock 19 is "concealable" but quite easy to spot. Honestly, only subcompacts can really be hidden. & personally, I think anything under 4.5 or 4.6 inches in height is preferable for a conceal carry. Overall it was a great comparison and I know exactly how long this shit takes to do and all the mental stress lol. Good job though

Since the shield 15 round mags came out AND have been thoroughly tested and found completely reliable , starting last month I'm literally ALL IN with the G43 and 48 and they became my EDC's !! The only exception to that rule is if I opt for ankle carry and then it's the G43 with a plus 1 mag. The 43x and 48 guns simply CAN NOT be beat for the thin , easy-on-the-waist slide and frame dimensions and reasonable weight. If I want to trim down on weight even more , I throw in Underwood 65 grain defender ammo and only fill the mag with 14. Thanks for this comparison , I agree with your assessment 100% !!

@BMO No, they aren't. That is a personal preference. Ammo and firearm choice is SO subject to personal preference, training, body mechanics, and body shape; all which play into what gun to carry. Modern ammo manufacturing has made the 9mil a very relevant, effective and sensible round. It's cheaper, and much easier to shoot than .45 in comparable guns.
That being said, I carry a .45 because it's what I've had the most training time with.
