I first became aware of Richard Stanley in the documentary "Jodorowsky's Dune" which is a great movie. Hardware has since become a favourite movie of mine (I even have a poster that I got as a gift). I also love the documentary "The Island of Lost Souls" which is about Stanley trying to film The Island of Dr. Moreau, which might be one of the most troubled film productions of all time. And yeah it's kind of deriviative but the set design is actually pretty great, and it's much grittier than most of those other movies. It's got a great punk style to it all.
I mentioned Lost Soul at the end of the review :) Jodorowsky's Dune is phenomenal, I love how every single one of his stories involves wanting to cast someone famous then randomly running into them at a party.
IN DEFENCE OF: yeah whoops, I should have finished the video before commenting. I think my favourite part of Jodorowsky's Dune is how he recruited Salvador Dali.
This was really, really solid. You can tell they were fighting their budget all the way, but they did so much with so little. I think it makes a good double bill with Circuitry Man for a proper slice of 90s tech-noir weirdness.
I've only ever seen Circuitry Man 2. Does that make me a bad person? I'd recommend another British cyberpunk killer robot movie also starring William Hootkins: Death Machine.
It never came out on DVD in the UK apparently. Meanwhile Circuitry Man 2 is available for a penny from 30 different vendors on Amazon. So it's not my fault, you see, it's the film's.
Vanessa. . . surely you jest. Seriously, I see your point. Hardware has a few flaws but keep 8n mind, a miniscule budget. I told people about Hardware. My favourite 'complaint " was " yeah its great for such a small budget but its similar to T2. " My reply, It was made and released before the second Terminator film.
A good review and great science fiction movie called. . . Hardware. A fantastic soundtrack. YES . . . it begins with the real McCoy in . . . Carl McCoy lead singer of the Fields of the Nephilim. Hardware was released almost 2 years before TERMINATOR II ! If you genuinely like sci-fi you will LOVE Hardware. 😀 YOUR biggest problem will be telling your friends about how good Hardware is and them believing you. Hardware did not have a huge release theatrically. In Australia, SYDNEY to be precise, I watched it repeatedly at the Valhalla in Glebe. Valhalla - an icon of Australian cinema that showed all budget, non-Hollywood movies.
Holy shit, I've never heard of this movie. It looks awesome. I love off the wall unique little horror movies like this. I really want to hunt it down and watch it now. Thank you. (edit) Wait! You mean to tell me porkins is in this movie? And he's a sex pervert? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I just watched the movie for the first time ever and I loved it , only thing I dont like the bathroom fight in the end, it looks like a regular bathroom, out of sync with the dark scifi visuals of the rest of the film, seemed a bit odd to me and cheap, everything else I loved, gonna try scoring the ronin flix release

The first Circuitry Man is proper good. So yes, yes it does.

A truly prescient work.
An excellent video and commentary!
I agree. This channel is the best. :)
I love this movie.. but let's face it, the only thing that bother me is how beautiful and clean Jill is for such a wasteland future.
I hear that metalwork is great for the skin.

It also introduced me to Public Image Ltd and I'm sure I'm not the only one!

He's a mega sex pervert.
What is worse Hootkins apparently ad-libbed many of his lines, the filthy git.
I hope not. This channel is great man.
Thanks for the love! I have stopped making videos, but I occasionally tweet out my thoughts on flicks @InDefenceOfYT
Can I ask why?
Lost the drive and the time to make them! I think it shows in my later videos sadly.

I liked the bathroom setting as it was appropriate for the water thematic that's running throughout the flick. :)
