"Have all the simple things been discovered?" I've been pondering that thought as well ever since I was a kid. So crazy to hear someone else say it out loud.
every german kid gets bombarded with goethe in school :D pronunciation on point love your videos! they let me feel at ease and inspire some interesting thoughts ❤
Love the finished piece. Reading it from left to right it looks like how you described your mood (and how a lot of the world is feeling): complex darkness pouring out, down … a break … then lighter, floaty, sense of moving upward into what I hope for you (and us all) is a better future. (Think I saw a rabbit in there as well. 🤷🏻♀️😂) Anyway, I’m happy I saw this just now. I woke up this morning and for some weird reason the word “drawing” came to mind. But it made me think of you and the particular way you say it. “Draw-wing.” (I’m English and I tend to say “drawring”.) ‘Draw wing’ is like you’re giving feelings flight and setting free ideas and if that’s not the fundamental purpose of art I don’t know what is.
Peter you got me to appreciate iterative random drawing , which it turn led to a thing that led to a thing and I got an ink painting in a gallery. Your genuine and I am super glad your mixing it up with shapes colors depth . Draw draw draw your a modern Commander Mark . ( look it up it’s rad )
The whole time I was afraid the drawing would turn into "something" and then I would have to feel "impressed" by some banal thing. But instead you kept it abstract so I could actually enjoy it. Great work.
The whole time I was [hoping] the drawing would turn into "something", and then I [would] feel impressed by [the] thing; but instead, he kept it abstract, so I [couldn't quite] "enjoy" it. Still, great work! No, but really, that's a skill in and of itself. It felt, the whole time, as though this was going to coalesce into "something." To keep it constantly on that edge between abstract and figurative shows a great depth of understanding of organic shape and form. At one point, I thought we were getting a rabbit at the vegetable patch; later a squid, lurking by a deep sea ridge. Yet none of these came to be. And, when I say, "I couldn't quite enjoy it," in a strange sense I mean that in a similar way to watching a horror film. It's not really "enjoyable", but that doesn't mean to say it isn't captivating, nor that it isn't an experience we would like to have again.
The microscopic shots are nice! I can never get enough of seeing things via microscope. Do you think your pencil odyssey ever lead you to developing Peter Pencils? This drawing is amazing!
love the drawing it’s gorgeous! honestly, the world is so vast and so complex with soooo many unknowns all around it. the more i learn, the more i realize humans are still so close to babies banging rocks together in the grand scheme of things and all the stuff we know is pretty recent. there are definitely so many simple discoveries to be made so many plain and common phenomena to be observed, so go out and dink around maybe you’ll learn something
I really like this drawing too, Peter, and I hope you do more with coloured pencils. Interesting thoughts on colour! And thanks for the correct pronunciation of Goethe - it's been a mystery to me my whole life long.
You let it go... that first commentary. Wonderful! I do often struggle... last two weeks were-hard. I think humans know angst, fear... negatives. But I do not believe we were ever made to hold them. You let it go... that is the comfort you gave us. I am working a plan for the thing I have to do. And now... after? Those emotions? I've let them go. Thanks Peter. Thanks! oh... I do feel purple and green are smitten with each other.
That is so interesting! I’ve been drawing with colored pencils for years but I had no idea they looked like that up close I really liked seeing that zoomed in footage!!
Very cool. I love Polychromos, but my favorite colored pencil are Pablos by Caran d'Ache. They're drier, not as waxy as most brands, but deliver a big color payload. They make a smoother line, feel a bit harder than most other brands. I still love my Prismacolors too, despite all their manufacturing flaws.
I like using soft blender pens with the pencils too....causing a great blending and softening effect. You might like that. Thank you for these beautiful works of art!
Wow this is so cool! And as you say, the endproduct just just looks so satisfying and juicy! My eyes are literally drawn to observe it. Love it! Thanks for the video ❤
you drawing process is mesmerizing. I love the commentary too, but I was almost hypnotized by the way you use color pencils. Fascinating and very inspiring! Thank you for the video!
I'm literally have those days and I'm just starting to draw and saw your video, you help me a lot, so thank you. We're gonna be ok, vamos a estar bien😊
I love how you can get carried away with random shapes and various shadings of color, and the end result is some so beautiful and spectacular. Some of my favorite types of art. I will have to go read the Wikipedia page!
Peter, I’m fairly new to your channel. But I have watched 20 or so videos. Some from a while ago 4+ years, and most of your recent posts. I just wanted to say that the last few minutes of this post when you spoke about your mental health really hit home for me. It’s amazing to me that you can be such an inspiration creatively, but also as a good human. Please keep making these videos. Thank you.
So happy to see you branching out into color pencils!! LOVE the drawing. Keep up the great work. P.S. Your best art, and the art you seldom speak about, are your videos!!
You have to have a lot of talent to squiggle line your way into a masterpiece. Peter, you're so talented, I think you know that, but just in case, you're just so talented 🫀
1. What fun to watch this drawing come together, with colors shifting around. 2. Aren't color pencils great? 3. Thanks for sparing us the negative commentery.
Coloured pencil are fun and nice because they don't stick on the back of your hand or sneak on to your sleeve, nose, or the other side of your drawing/painting.....your picture was fun and nice!
I like how it came out! I did a similar piece but I gave myself set rules, I was only able to draw geometric shapes but I could draw them anyway I wanted. cut them in half etc. shading and coloring in was however I wanted too.
i bouhgt a colored pencial at my local art store and it has 4 colors inside of it, so when you rotate it a bit the colors changes, i think you would like making art with a crayon like that
Wonderful drawing! I admire your creativity. I love colored pencils and use them a lot, but I’m only able to try realistic subjects. I wish I had more imagination and could make such fantastic drawings!
Hullo Peter, I commend your decision to upload the more positive commentary on color and a smaller amount of personal feelings. I am very excited to see you branching out into different mediums. I am a watercolor artist and I have enjoyed working with watercolor paints for blocking in the main areas of my picture and them coming in with more watercolor paints on very small brushes, rather like drawing lines onto the areas of color. This works very nicely with pencils too! I like using watercolor pencil, Polychromos or even Prismacolor’s! I use whatever I have close or in the mood to use! I have every hope that you will find time to do some more watercolor painting. I know that you excel in the ink drawings in black on white, yet I love seeing you going further afield with other art mediums! Please keep creating and sharing your art with us. Take care, be safe and enjoy your day!
Love the drawing and commentary. I'm a neuroscience student and even though my field is technically much younger than many of the others in STEM, it's still going to take a PhD before I really know anything (much less discover anything lol), so I would say that's definitely true for the more established areas like chem. Areas like marine biology are actually discovering new organisms pretty consistently, but yeah having a degree is what puts you in that position to be able to find them. I'm sure there will be some surprises and exceptions but probably never like it used to be. It's funny cuz a lot of these old school scientists were self-taught polyglots who dipped their toes into all kinds of different fields just for kicks and ended up discovering all kinds of cool shit. No doubt it was way more exciting back then lol.
the Goethe thing is neat! I don't think he was literally "correct" but I wonder if he'd clued into the relationship between yellow and blue in sunlight & shade? Blue wavelengths from the sun scatter up in the atmosphere (making the sky blue), so the remaining sunlight has a yellowish tint by the time it gets to us. Meanwhile shade tends to be bluer because it's only lit by the blue sky itself. So in a way yellow sunlight _is_ partially dimmed light and blue shade _is_ a sort of lit darkness??
I like the way you subconsciously (or consciously) separated the two halves of the composition, but continued the shapes on either side of the “border” in different colors. It reminds me of that Japanese style sketch book where the pages were one continuous length that was accordion-folded. You made the effort to extend the lines of the drawings on each page to the next one, where you used them as the basis of a whole new composition on the following page. That was a fun sketchbook review ❤
What kind of camera or setup did you get in the zoomed in bits that followed each stroke of the pencil? I really liked it, seeing the fibres of the paper and the grain of the pencil.
Wow, those microscopic video is so clear. How did you shoot it? It seems so stead on pencil tip makes me think you attached it to the pencil. Are you able to share the name of the usb microscope you used?
Something popped into my head, and I have to ask: Is the pigment in colored pencils called ink? Or is it called something else? I know it's not made the same as a regular pen (not liquid). Anyone have an answer or a site for me to check out on the subject? Thank you Peter, you're going to be ok too 😊
Are you ever gonna "burnish" your colored pencil drawings? Where you press down hard to completely cover the white of the paper and lose the graininess. That's my favorite part, seeing it come together and it looks like a painting. And you can go over the lighter areas with a white colored pencil to blend it out smooth. The white Prismacolor is good for that. The white polychromos is kinda useless. It works well as a blending stump though.
"We're gonna make it. We're gonna be ok."
I felt that hard.
We have to
Yeah buddy !!!
It's a lovely drawing, and I especially enjoyed the bits with the microscope - even through the screen, those textures became tangible. Thank you.
Right!!! That part was so fascinating, it makes me wanna go out and buy one to see what pens look like REALLL up close
Your angst-free version of the commentary is very soothing, thank you. 😊

I am really struggling. I’m so grateful you’re here. Beautiful drawing.
Here’s a hug for you my friend🫂💚
I hope you feel better soon. 💐🫂💕
I hope you feel better soon. 💐🫂💕
Loved listening to your commentary here. The audio exploration of color was soothing and went so well with the picture.
The whole time I was afraid the drawing would turn into "something" and then I would have to feel "impressed" by some banal thing. But instead you kept it abstract so I could actually enjoy it.

The paper and pencils look *cuddly*
Your profile pic looks cuddly❤
@shripleypibbles 🫂
With pencil, your style is like an architect’s blueprint in a dream, surrealist yet highly structural
The microscopic shots are nice! I can never get enough of seeing things via microscope.
Do you think your pencil odyssey ever lead you to developing Peter Pencils?
This drawing is amazing!
This is really good. I like how the top portion contrasts each other, but the bottom portion transitions into each other.
Wow! I wouldn't have guessed that this was your channel Peter, but then I remembered a past video where you tried draw - wing with graphite. 😊

For some reason i thought the video was about to end at 0:54

Welcome to the pencil side! I love colored pencil; it's been my preferred medium for years. I love it for life drawing and sketching.
ooo, after this video i'd like to watch about pastels!
It a beauty, Peter! And yes, if we think we are going to be OK we will be OK. Somebody said that whatever we think the Universe always says - "Yes". 😄
Hey, indoor voices only. That drawing IS SHOUTING!
I like using soft blender pens with the pencils too....causing a great blending and softening effect. You might like that. Thank you for these beautiful works of art!
Like both a lot: your drawing and your comments!🤗
I love my Faber-castell Polychromos pencils! They really are beautiful pencils! Love you Peter! 💕
Thank you, Peter. We needed your creativity and vibes in these trying times ❤
thank you for reminding me why i didnt just dance with forms but also with colors
Wow this is so cool! And as you say, the endproduct just just looks so satisfying and juicy! My eyes are literally drawn to observe it. Love it! Thanks for the video ❤
This drawing is so magical!
You should try going over your color pencil drawings with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. It makes it almost like watercolor
you drawing process is mesmerizing. I love the commentary too, but I was almost hypnotized by the way you use color pencils. Fascinating and very inspiring! Thank you for the video!
It's always a pleasure to hear your thoughts on things. You always have something interesting to say 😊
I'm literally have those days and I'm just starting to draw and saw your video, you help me a lot, so thank you. We're gonna be ok, vamos a estar bien😊
Normally your drawings look like unusually excellent doodles.
This looks like fine art that no one I know would ever buy.
Can't decide which I prefer.

weird how peter always draws my parents fighting
I see my kids fighting 😂
😂
More of the microscope footage please 🥰🥰
Woah that's a nice camera to have. Watercolor a pen drawing with it next?
Amaaaaaazing drawing Peter. New peaks
I miss enjoying the process I get so caught up with the end result I'm starting to forget the process should be enjoyed.
You should do this more often. I like seeing art supplies up close.
So happy to see you branching out into color pencils!! LOVE the drawing. Keep up the great work.
P.S. Your best art, and the art you seldom speak about, are your videos!!
Looks cool Peter, I love the colors you used🥰🥰🥰
We're going to be okay. And if not, we'll fight to make it okay anyway.
You have to have a lot of talent to squiggle line your way into a masterpiece.
Peter, you're so talented, I think you know that, but just in case, you're just so talented 🫀
The lines on this one really call to me, Peter. Wonderful! I hope you're staying warm in this deep freeze of winter. :)

Wow absolutely amazing and a journey! Just ignited my love and interest in art and the why/science/explanation behind the world of color!

Göthe - you spelled correct :) Cool Drawing, thx for the insights, greetings from Germany
Wonderful drawing! I admire your creativity. I love colored pencils and use them a lot, but I’m only able to try realistic subjects. I wish I had more imagination and could make such fantastic drawings!

I really enjoyed your process and your thoughts
Yes we will be okay!
Lovely work, Peter
🌱 thank you 🎨✨
I appreciate your point of view. Thanks dog
Awesome! I want a micro camera
Amazing you are truly gifted my friend

do another one but leave sme voids in the scene to draw in some ink on top
beautiful drawing
beautiful ❤❤
Hi Peter!! Have a great day ❤
this is art
Looks like if a lava flow ran through someone's Fiestaware collection....awesome
This guy is better at drawing "nothing" than most people are able to draw something
dang. Cool draw
Wow, what a voice
You are the best dude, dude

I’ll have to get one of those sketchbooks again, I got a little burnt out on that first one I worked on, but I agree I was really cool :)
Also the smell of a fresh colored pencil is like a waxy wooden heaven
They do bring great smells :)
I'm opposite of you Peter. I love the sensation of pencil on paper rather than pen. And no, not because pencil is erasable! 😂
I really like that zoomed microscope view, but it didnt last long enough, make it a full video!
Could we get a link to the usb microscope?
Lovely
Thanks for the video thanks a lot for all the stuff

Hey, Peter! Love your art. Just curious if you'd ever consider streaming on Twitch again? 😊
The Square Space drawing reminded me of gummy candy, that is all.
Your talent and creativity are unmatched
Ayyy I was the 1,000th like! Great vid
Looks good from my house
Would u ever wanna release ur "dark" art ?
Come on! Let’s get this guy to 1 million subs. I’d sub again if i could.
Now use a wet brush to finish it!
