My mom passed a year ago and she used the makeup but didn't sell it. It makes me so sad seeing these videos, not because I think it isn't a bad company but because I know the makeup did make her feel beautiful and it did look really good on her. It just sucks knowing it is a bad brand but also having memories of her loving it. Idk if that makes sense and if there is anyone else out there who has gone through a similar feeling but if you have you aren't alone. MLMs are the worst and are very good at preying on people in small towns who don't feel beautiful and it is so sad.
Honestly with that kind of situation the only way you can approach it treating the MLM as an unknown quality. Your mom had her makeup preferences you never thought about it and if that’s an MLM how unfortunate. If anyone asks the products helped your mom but you never knew the business aspect and don’t agree with that so no recommendations here. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom to Alzheimers. So hard! If your mom enjoyed the make up and wasn't selling it, why would that be a bad thing? She loved it and it made her feel beautiful. I can see how someone would claim to have "accidentally" signed up for an MLM, as MLMs rely almost solely on the fact that many less assertive people will just go along with someone they find socially intimidating in order to not cause a scene. Or, at least, that's how it has been in the past. It's changing now, but I know I personally still am that way. I was roped into a MARY KAY party in college and she had us do a 'challenge' to write down as many names and numbers of as many girls we could think of that might like to go to a Mary Kay party as well in order to win a free product. Keep in mind, this was LITERALLY the first thing she had us do, before we even KNEW WHAT THE 'PARTY' CONSISTED OF. I'm very sure that was purposeful. This woman was also about mid-fifties, having Mary Kay parties with college freshmen girls like every weekend, as the ones 'recommended' by other targets were then contacted and the cycle continues. So, if someone is like me and being pressured so hard into joining...I would be socially anxious and just do it. And then if you're MORE like me, you'd try to tough it out and make the best of your new situation that was forced upon you. But then you can't really explain to others the way you signed up because it sounds like you were just a pushover, so you lie and say you did it accidentally.

I don’t understand why they think, “you can actually work this business without losing your house and your bank account” is a convincing argument.
What other job has to say that? “Yeah, I know some people lost their houses & their bank accounts, but you don’t have to, you could maybe do this, and not lose those things.” Like, ok that should be below the bare minimum for a job.
No one is applying at McDonald’s thinking “wow I hope I don’t lose my house because of this job”. Or starting at a corporate job thinking, “some people lose everything but maybe I won’t.”
It’s not a good selling point that they have to clarify that.
Totally. They say out loud all the problems with the MLM set up, and then say “But that won’t happen to you if you work hard”. Then when you fail, it’s your fault.
My mom passed a year ago and she used the makeup but didn't sell it. It makes me so sad seeing these videos, not because I think it isn't a bad company but because I know the makeup did make her feel beautiful and it did look really good on her. It just sucks knowing it is a bad brand but also having memories of her loving it. Idk if that makes sense and if there is anyone else out there who has gone through a similar feeling but if you have you aren't alone. MLMs are the worst and are very good at preying on people in small towns who don't feel beautiful and it is so sad.

Honestly with that kind of situation the only way you can approach it treating the MLM as an unknown quality. Your mom had her makeup preferences you never thought about it and if that’s an MLM how unfortunate. If anyone asks the products helped your mom but you never knew the business aspect and don’t agree with that so no recommendations here. Lastly my sincere condolences for you mom, I can’t even imagine how that feels and I hope things are getting easier for you 🤞❤️
I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom to Alzheimers. So hard! If your mom enjoyed the make up and wasn't selling it, why would that be a bad thing? She loved it and it made her feel beautiful. I think that is great. We need to be more supportive of other women and compliment them and make them feel good because Lord knows there are enough out there trying to tear us down!

I can see how someone would claim to have "accidentally" signed up for an MLM, as MLMs rely almost solely on the fact that many less assertive people will just go along with someone they find socially intimidating in order to not cause a scene. Or, at least, that's how it has been in the past. It's changing now, but I know I personally still am that way.
I was roped into a MARY KAY party in college and she had us do a 'challenge' to write down as many names and numbers of as many girls we could think of that might like to go to a Mary Kay party as well in order to win a free product. Keep in mind, this was LITERALLY the first thing she had us do, before we even KNEW WHAT THE 'PARTY' CONSISTED OF. I'm very sure that was purposeful.
This woman was also about mid-fifties, having Mary Kay parties with college freshmen girls like every weekend, as the ones 'recommended' by other targets were then contacted and the cycle continues.
So, if someone is like me and being pressured so hard into joining...I would be socially anxious and just do it. And then if you're MORE like me, you'd try to tough it out and make the best of your new situation that was forced upon you. But then you can't really explain to others the way you signed up because it sounds like you were just a pushover, so you lie and say you did it accidentally.

I'm an exec at an agency that does REAL digital marketing, and MRR is so fascinating to me because they're all selling the exact same thing to the exact same market... which is the perfect way to not sell a single thing. I do not understand why they think this is a good way to make money.

i shower often, every couple of days, but only wash my hair once a week. depending on your skin type and hair texture, washing it more often can be disadvantageous. i have type 2c wavy/curly hair, for example. just thought i’d contribute, i know you are probably already aware of the exceptions to your commentary on washing hair. i just like to be apart of the conversation and supporting you by increasing your engagement makes me happy 🩷

The engagement posts crack me upppp! NuSkin (the toothpaste and self tanner MLM) was rampant in my area a while back. I had 2-3 NuSkin Huns on my FB and it was so hilarious watching them all comment on each other’s posts like “Will the toothpaste cause sensitivity? Is the tanner streaky?” It took everything I had in me not to comment, “why are you asking? Haven’t you been selling it for a while now too?” 😂
I feel a deep dive on the Mackenzie girl. It is a fascinating observation that she’s a PI yet hasn’t properly investigated this business she’s standing up for with everything in her. How interesting. If she did the quickest of Google searches you’d have seen some of the issues.
I just encountered one of these in the wild on Instagram. I was scrolling and saw a “tutorial” of a middle-aged woman sharing her secret of how to minimise smile lines: putting lighter concealer in the fold to offset the shadows. That is going to settle in and make the line more obvious! When I saw seint in the tags I realised what was up.

Most states also have requirements related to shadow hours (aka hours you work under somewhere else's license befoee you can work cases by yoursel).
