This is an odd subject because I have used Facebook advertising and there is this anti placebo effect that makes me think the engagement has gone down after I paid for advertising. Maybe my audiences overall engagement is down but it was a very odd coincidence. The biggest issue I have with it is that I feel the results are hollow. Yes it got a lot of views but none of the times I did it ever lead to significant traffic to my page and channels that justified the money being. I was getting similar results doing my own marketing. Interesting comment Zack - I have heard a few people say similar (basically implying that Facebook 'hooks' you on advertising by throttling your organic reach after you start paying, so you keep coming back for more). I'm not sure how true this is - although my gut feeling is there is at least an element of truth to it. However, I do also think that done correctly, paid digital advertising can be incredibly effective. It's all in the planning (i.e. what are you promoting? how are you promoting it?) and then in the execution as well.
Wow thanks for your insight on this! I'm still relatively new the marketing world so there is a chance it's completely in my planning. I have heard the Instagram marketing seems to work more in your favor and my next step is to try that.
