As a woman in STEM, I think it is so important we destigmatize talking about salary! It's so important to know when and if your company is possibly paying you less than Mr. Joe Schmoe so you can empower yourself and ask for a raise!
It's absolutely important to talk about wages. Obviously don't brag about it to random people, but talking to your co-workers and others in the same field about pay should be completely normal. I'm a woman going to tech college for "automotive technology" (fancy word for car mechanic essentially), and I'm pretty worried about how my compensation will compare to my male peers'.
Talking about wages is beneficial for everyone (except the employers fucking people over!) but especially beneficial to women, younger individuals, child-less individuals, or anyone who has a "reason" to be potentially paid less. (Minorities, people who don't have families, so sometimes companies think they can pay less, because you assumedly have less financial responsibilities, and so on)

Back when I was working in retail, I got promoted to keyholder because literally all the other keyholders were leaving. One of my coworkers told me what they were making, and it was 10 - 15% more than I had been told I was going to get. Thanks to her, I was able to push to get the same rate as the previous round of keyholders. My manager was overtly sexist, and she almost got away with paying me significantly less than my male coworkers, despite being the store's product knowledge specialist, training the new hires, and having worked there for longer. Shoutout to Jess for being a real one, because I never would have known they were trying to underpay me otherwise. Wage transparency is so important!

I feel the same for those of us in trades. Ie I am a planner/ design layout and framer. I then come in after the contractors and do finish work as well, and we are severely unrepresented
We joke a lot here. But as someone who abused substances, it disgusts me when someone uses their history of drug abuse to push ANYTHING. “I went from a Meth-head to an MLM-head! You can too!”

But, of course, that requires a level of self-awareness most MLMers don't seem to have.
Idk. Certainly that hairball sometimes, but I think it's much more common to lash out because you're just under a great amount of stress, and of course, being in an mlm, losing money, with people above you saying "Why aren't you doing better" and people below you saying "Why aren't I doing better" is extremely stressful.

I’m 60ish. I was raised by a
humble man who believed and taught that matters concerning money be kept private. This included his salary and how much he paid for big ticket items such as our house and vehicles. My friends seemed to be raised similarly in regards to money. I don’t see this as a me vs you issue but more of a generational one.

I don’t think “how I was raised” is necessarily a good reason to be a certain way but I agree it’s generally better not to tell people about your money or ask how much others make.
Talking about wages with coworkers and others within your field is incredibly important, to ensure people aren't having their pay be decided due to bigotry, biases, and so on.
Not talking about pay helps no one but your employer.
Yes, obviously don't brag, and there's not much reason to say how much your house is vehicles cost, but if someone asks I'll tell them. But openly talking about wages benefits everyone overall, especially women in male dominated fields, minorities, and so on.

I agree. I was raised that way as well but we really need to get away from that mindset. The ones who want to keep it going are the ones doing nothing but getting paid bank. Not to mention that that mindset leaves the majority of kids without financial knowledge. “I’m working a full day. Why can’t I afford rent?” “My parents were a one income family and we lived well”

Networking within your industry and talking openly about salary, benefits, work life balance, etc is INSANELY important. Not just because you can figure out if you or someone else is being underpaid! Often you can identify a skill, certification, or experience that typically increases benefits of interest (work from home opportunities, pay, education compensation, etc) and pursue that to improve your own life quality (or share that with someone so they can improve theirs).
Olive Tree People is my favorite MLM. They are wild! How they can surpass BOO with craziness is truely inspirational 😂😂(Savanah Marie has a great video on them)

I think the reason why money has become taboo is because employers have historically and through to today don’t want people discussing salaries and realizing the discrepancies between same roles, men&women, the gap between staff and their managers etc.
We actually talk about money every day, the news, the prices of things, in the jobs we do etc. but it’s personal monies that are somehow taboo. Talk about your income as much or as little as you want, it’s actually empowering

My moms family was very much a you don’t talk money family whereas my dads was more the get a bank account as soon as you can, start to learn to save money, learn about investing and all the financial things going on around you which I think partly stemmed from having a family run business but 🤷🏽♀️

Hi buddy, I definitely understand. I’m sorry with the baby. I definitely do have to be a bit more soft-spoken at times I will increase my volume of my videos and post production now and let my editor know to do that too. Also, TH-cam does have automated captions on the video if you click on the video in the top corner or in the bottom corner, it will say Cc with a little square around it, or there might be a little Screw like looking toggle that you can click. TH-cam does usually take a while meaning a few days to have them auto generated and sometimes they don’t even put them on videos or allow them on videos which is silly. I am hard of hearing so I definitely understand. I’m sorry about that.

I’ve been overweight my whole life, until I had children. If in my weakest time, if someone from an MLM contacted me, I would’ve been screwed. Weight loss plus community? More than I had, since people disliked me for being “weird and fat”.
