A short explaination about how I went about converting my van to a Toyota V8. Cartune Company vids for the wiring. Part 1 • 1uz-fe VVti Mitsubishi... Part 2 • 1uz-fe VVti Mitsubishi...
@@lancemarriott9671 I used the diesel tank but have put in the pump holder and sender unit from a V6 Delica. bolts straight into the old tank.also put in a Walbro high pressure fuel pump.
Any front sump 1UZ VVti will work. If you want to use the Delica trans you will need the pump, input shaft, torque converter and bell housing From a earlier toyota A30/41 trans. They will all bolt straight into the mitsi trans.
How are you controlling the AW4 with the VVTi 1uz? Only the a650e from the factory behind that one. I assume you have full automatic driveability since you've gone about the drive by cable setup.
The S1 Delica trans has it's own control module. I bought an earlier Toyota 1UZ A30/41 trans and used the bell housing , input shaft, pump and torque converter from that into the delica trans. I'm using the original toyota ecu which has been tricked into being manual and keeps the VVTi with the Mitsi trans control module still running he trans. It also needed a little box I got from the car tune company to up the voltage on the 1UZ TPS so it would shift down the gears properly when you step on the gas. Honestly, if I was doing it all again I'd probably go for an after market ECU that can run the engine and trans. Car Tune Company did all the wiring for me. Check him out on TH-cam and contact him if you need help. Great guy and incredibly knowledgeable about the 1UZ conversions.
Fascinating, thank you for the info. I did not know this. My 1985 A340H behind my 22re actually has a separate TCU as well. I might try to see if I can re-use it, but it was an early version of the a340 and is incredibly simple compared to some of the later 4,5 solenoid versions that are beefed up.@@shakynz1
Does the Delica need to be lifted to clear the engine? Any firewall modifications? I sold my V6 L400 but miss it. If I get another, I'd love to do this swap.
@@shakynz1 Thank you! That kept me from swapping my last one as I thought it was needed. Well, that's almost truthful - I also had too many vehicle projects. Thank you again for sharing this info!
what a weapon of a camper. can you tell me if the delica rear windows open out at one end only, I am trying to find weathershields for van side windows

Yes, it was a diesel. The S1 Diesel has the right transmission for the conversion. Aisin Warner A30-40. Toyota used a Aisin Warner A30-41 behind their early V8's so everything you need from the Toyota(Bell housing, input shaft, pump and torque converter) bolts on to the Mitsi trans without needing bell housing adaptors or transfer case adapters. Because I've got 33" tires I changed to 5285 ratio from a Pajero which included a Pajero Locker in the rear.
I believe it was only the S1 transmission that worked with the conversion. If I was doing a S2 I'd look at doing a 1UZ vvti conversion and keeping the 6 speed trans from the toyota and using a transfer case adapter. Then you can use the Toyota ECU and loom which would control engine and trans. And using 1st and 2nd in low ratio with the 6 speed would mean it'd really crawl along.
So being a diesel before means you must have done a number of changes to the fuel storage and supply systems too eh...? Any video explaining that side of things?
Currently rebuilding my Delica and found your video in my search for homework. I'm going to be putting a winch bumper (homemade) on and seeing all the rads was wondering about it getting enough cool air flow. Have you had any problems with it running hot or did you do any pre-emptive work before fitting you winch bumper? Cheers, Jim.
Are you required to legalize this kind of engine swap in NZ? That is to get some documents updated which effect the annual tax rate? Greetings from Russia, I've also got a deli but with the stock 4m40 diesel engine
@@shakynz1 that is fabulous. Here in Russia they calculate the tax rate by engine's HP and volume. For a 4-litre engine like this the tax is high, that is why some of the Delica swaps are not legalized - people just keep paying their tax as if it were an old 4m40 or 6g72 engine lol
Sick video dude. Followed ur tutorial for cutting to fit 33's on DelicaClub after you replied to my post. Super helpful. Thanks so much man 👍
These little vans can sure carry a lot :)
Cool conversion, very impressive. Need a few skids now ;)
Thanks. The work continues..lol Never really ends. :-)
Good on ya mate thats a gem
I saw this at Ngamatapouri 2 years ago and the conversion is so good it looks factory.
That was a great weekend. Looking forward to next years trip.
Fantastic job mate, I’m very envious and I’m sure you have some great adventures! 👍
After seeing your Deli, I've almost convinced myself to do this conversion to mine. not many 1uz's in the UK though. :(
Excellent info mate. Thanks for the effort. Great conversion
Did you swap in a V6 petrol tank as well?
@@lancemarriott9671 I used the diesel tank but have put in the pump holder and sender unit from a V6 Delica. bolts straight into the old tank.also put in a Walbro high pressure fuel pump.

Cheers. Yes, Still have it. Running great. 🙂
V8 Delica just makes sense to me. Curious to know what change in fuel consumption you've noticed.
With the aerodynamics of a brick it's not the best. Works out at about 8 kms per liter.
@@shakynz1 that's better than what I was getting in my old S1 L400 Deli.

No lift or firewall modification. I've heard that earlier 1UZ need the fire wall manipulated a bit but the 1UZ VVTi I have just fit in perfectly.

Very impressive conversion mate, I assume you were you able to retain 4WD with the V8 conversion?
Thanks. Yes, running the Delica trans on it's original mount meant I was able to keep 4WD.

Hi mate, top job and inspirational, when you say 33’s on 16’s,are they 235/75’s or similar?
